Each technological age has been marked by a shift in how the industrial platform enables companies to rethink their business processes and create wealth. In the talk I argue that we are limiting our view of what this next industrial/digital age can offer because of how we read, measure and through that perceive the world (how we cherry pick data). Companies are locked in metrics and quantitative measures, data that can fit into a spreadsheet. And by that they see the digital transformation merely as an efficiency tool to the fossil fuel age. But we need to stretch further…

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

5. Our Students: Ayo, Year 9
Well it does not really matter if we like it or not; it is
becoming a very essential part of our world today. We live
in the 21st century, and this is part of our modern day
world. People say we should stick with the basics of
teaching like a pen and pencil and that’s all that’s required
for a student’s learning, but just as a paper and pencil was
a great idea back in the 'olden days', so is a laptop or iPad
today.
9. Our Students: Sakile, Year 12
We use technology to access the internet so we can do research and communicate
our ideas. Being a part of an international school means we need to consciously be
a part of our international community, and that means the whole world.
The Internet can be used as a faster tool to share information and communicate
ideas. It would be very difficult to help a cause if it took four years for a reporter to
learn about it, research it, travel back, write the report, edit it, and finally publish it in
a newspaper. These days, people can update their blogs or tweet about their
experiences or even upload drafts or pictures of what they are doing.
Also, it is much easier to access old information. The New York Times has articles
dating back to the 1800's on their website. If I wanted to find that article without the
internet, I'd have to find a large library that has newspaper clippings (which would
DEFINITELY not be in Angola). The Internet makes learning much easier, so that
students and teachers can focus more on learning more difficult and complex topics
than spending hours just trying to find one newspaper clipping.
11. Our Students: Alaric, Year 7
A lot of our homework needs to be done with
Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Managebac, and
MyMaths. We also need Internet access
because this is how a lot of students get their
answers. There is also a lot of software on the
Internet that helps us organize data like
MindMaps and Google Drive.
13. Our Students: Aiden, Year 8
Technology helps create a new world of
understanding and exploration for
people of all ages. You can use
technology in school and use it at home
to collaboratively work on a paper or
just finish up work that is for homework.
21. Our Students: Enzo, year 7
With technology it is easier and more practical
to do many things, like researching and sharing
documents. With technology we can share our
work with the whole world and see if somebody
doing the same program in the U.K. has any
ideas about my project, while without
computers and the Internet I will not be able to
have such a good learning experience.
