Alfred Hitchcock Point Of View
Alfred Hitchcock s cinematic style contains an array of stylistic devices, notably the point of view
shot. Using point of view editing, the audience repeatedly [sees] events through the eyes of an
individual character. (Walker) The audience is privy to only what the character knows and likewise
absorbs the character s emotional journey. As the audience s emotional investment/identification
with the protagonistgrows, so does the plot amplifying the audience s empathy for the character s
heartache, longing, and anxiety, creating the perfect recipe for a suspenseful thriller. Hitchcock
employs point of view editing in the films, Rear Windowand Vertigoto exemplify the protagonist s
mindset and to control the amount of information the audience made be aware of.

The audience is only privy to the information that protagonist has. Therefore, the audience
experiences the same emotions and anxiety as the protagonist. Hitchcock controls how much
information the audience is given by narrowing it a single character s perspective. Like Jeffries,
the audience becomes suspicions as to whether or not his neighbor, Lars has actually murdered
his wife. Additionally, the audience feels the same panic and fear when he witnesses Lisa being
trapped in the apartment by Lars. As Jeffries focuses more on each character, the audience learns
more about that character s personality and life. For instance, Jeffries nicknames a woman in a
lower floor, Miss Lonelyhearts. Together the audience witnesses with Jeffries Miss Lonelyhearts
throwing an invisible guest a dinner party before she breaks down in tears. (Walker) After
identifying with her sadness, the audience feels an added sense of panic and anxiety when Miss
Lonelyhearts is seen with a bottle of pills and alcohol, insinuating suicidal plans at the same time
Lisa is being trapped by

Physical Monuments Controversy
When looking at the controversial argument over the importance of physical monuments and
memorials it is important to consider the following, location, size, and the controversy these
monuments bring up. The debate over the location, size, and what these statutes represent are all
important in considering the long term effects these monuments and memorials have on the world.
The issue over location of monuments is an important one to consider because of the different
meanings each statue has to different people and where those ides are being represented. For
example, Downes, states that the Crazy Horse Memorialin the Black Hills, South Dakota is
definitely an unnatural landmark. A similar opinion from Musser about the effect of location states,
memory of the Holocaust would be built in the United States, who did little to stop the Holocaust
from occurring. The issue of location of these monuments sparks controversy in many forms, such

According to Downes, there were probably much better ways to help Indians than a big statue. In
Dowes article about both the Crazy Horse monument and Mount Rushmore, he looks at the size of
both these monuments in relation to what they represent. Size of monuments presents a
controversial argument for all involved because of the necessity of large memorials to represent
small parts of history. In regards to Crazy Horse specifically, one of its main purposes is to never
finish and to gain more and more money from clueless tourists every year. According to Leatrice
Big Crow, the memorial was one of those things that could go on swallowing money and effort
forever. Mount Rushmore is the same type of deal, unless the monument is massive in size and so
impressive, people won t waste their time going and spending money. Size of monuments is a
prevalent issue when building monuments because of the money and representation it

The Amendment Rights Must Be The Most Controversial...
Second Amendment rights must be the most controversial section of the Constitution, it most
definitely has to be the most challenged. Lawsuits have been brought up against the Second
Amendment for many years, challenging whether or not it should still be a part of the Constitution,
and the meaning behind the verbiage used. The anti gun crowd has attempted multiple times to
prove the Second Amendment should apply only to a militia and that the average citizen has no
right to own a firearm. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is the largest lobbyist group for pro
gun rights and one of the most powerful interest groups in politics today. They have successfully
supported the defense of the peoples right to own firearms for many years. After many years of
failing to accomplish their agenda, the anti gun crowd has a new tactic: instead of facing the
multimillion members of the NRA (Statistic Brain Research Institute, 2014) they are now going
after the gun manufacturers and dealers. They cannot stop the sale of guns therefore they want to
eliminate the source. This paper will identify the historical foundation of the Second Amendment,
describe the National Rifle Association s involvement, and site the legal precedence and challenges.
History of the Second Amendment.

National Intelligence Analysis
National Intelligence Analysis et al. (2010) claim that in the early 2000s, Canada s heroin market
was controlled by South and Southwest Asia, and these regions took Southeast Asia s place. Since
2004, heroin seizures have been increasing even though heroin is allegedly one of the least
commonly used illicit drugs in Canada (NIA et al., 2010). Asian, Latin American, and West African
organized crime groups, functioning in Canada as well as in foreign countries, remained to be
participants in smuggling and transporting heroinin Canada (NIA et al., 2010). That is not to say
that Canadian organized crime groups were not participants in the heroin market; Canadian

National Intelligence Analysis et al. (2010) maintain that in 2009, fake versions of OxyContin and
erectile dysfunction drugs were smuggled into Canada from foreign countries, but despite that,
domestic production continued to increase. Aside from anabolic steroids and anaesthetics, the
majority of prescription drugs entering the illicit drug trade were acquired from the medical system
(NIA et al., 2010). The smuggling of prescription drugs through the Canada US border continued,
although it typically involved small amounts (NIA et al., 2010). According to National Intelligence
Analysis et al. (2010), the illicit use of oxycodone and oxycodone trafficking have increased in
Canada, which is demonstrated by an increasing amount of seizures and investigative methods, as
well as in the rising number of casualties caused by oxycodone use. The heightened amount of fake
OxyContin versions in Western and Eastern Canada suggest that criminal organizations may be
becoming more involved in the illicit trade of pharmaceutical drugs (NIA et al., 2010).
Comparisons to the marijuana market: Compared to meth and crystal meth use, rates of cannabis
use among adolescent students are typically high (Bouchard et al., 2011). In the mid to late 2000s,
the Canadian illicit drug market has generally remained stable (NIA et al., 2010). National

Load Optimum Mpls Routing With Routers And Links
Load Optimum MPLS Routing with Routers and Links (N+M)
ABSTRACT:
MPLS is now a days the most important thing in the intra domain routing (i.e. routing in own
domain or network). The main advantage of MPLS is the flexibility it offers towards traffic
engineering ex. To support higher demand without overloading any links. Most of the major
vendors are now offering MPLS routers and many ISPs are deploying MPLS in their IP backbone
as well as in ATMs and frame relays. Because of this increase in transition to MPLS we are
required to increase our knowledge towards the importance and limitations of MPLS.
Mitra and Ramakrishna from GLOBECOM 99 has showed optimum routing solutions can be found
to achieve the goals for diverse set of Traffic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can provide applications like Traffic Engineering, Quality of Service and Virtual Private
Networks. The packets in MPLS are directed through the network based on an assigned label.
The label is associated through the network with an assigned path which allows a higher level of
control on the packets than in packet switched networks. MPLS routing allow differing QoS
characteristics and priorities to be assigned to particular data flows. Traffic Engineering explains
the optimization of fundamental abilities of the network [2]. Traffic Engineering is the process of
controlling how traffic flows through ones network so as to optimize resource utilization and
network performance [3]. It is performed by detouring the traffic to paths that are lightly loaded in
order to balance the load amongst the paths as per the various calculated metrics. These can be
divided as two types. They are state dependent and time dependent. Both of them are focused to
balance the traffic so that they can avoid the congestion. State dependent policies change the traffic
in short time scale depending on different metrics calculated both online and offline of the present
traffic and the time dependent policies engineer it based on long time scaling. Both these methods
aim to balance the traffic so as to avoid the congestion.
The problem that we face while using previous MPLS routing solutions is that

Marc Lewis Reflection
Critical Thinking Assignment #3 Since I have been reading the life of Marc Lewis I find myself
always becoming more and more excited about what is going to happen next. So far it has been
filled with ups and down and me trying to predict what will happen next on his journey. While
reading chapter 6 I was so elated that Marc had gotten accepted to college, it seems as though he
actually has a plan for himself and is determined to exceed every goal. But normally good things
don t always last for a time and for some reason I could sense that something was about to
happen. For those of us who were not given the opportunity to have a silver spoon in their mouth
or even those who had the spoon but chose not to use it acquire a different meaning in life.
Growing up I lived in the projects, with drug dealers and snotty nosed kids who only aspiration
when they grew up was to get out of the projects. Thankfully at a young age I was adopted by my
grandparents and just like Marc Lewis a new door opened and I was finally given a chance at
life itself. I truly believe that when people are presented with things that inspire them to do
better or be better then they will change their attitude on everything. They begin to create dreams
of being successful, studious and eventually become so set in their goals that even when things
go bad they choose not to focus on them because of the complete turnaround they just achieved.
Although marc seemed to be doing great I could tell that he didn t want to do the complete
turnaround, I say this because he was still smoking hash, it was evident that it had become apart
of his new lifestyle whether he actually wanted it to or not. He began to put a phosaude, almost
like when you re high around your parents and try to act as normal as possible. He said that the
trick is to balance anxiety and ecstasy and in all honesty I had no clue to what he was trying to
say. The psychedelic drugs caused his thoughts to go from normal thoughts like what he wanted to
eat or buy and would quickly change to his possible enemies such as customers, children and
President Ronald Reagan. Psychedelic drugs cause people to hallucinate and become in and out of
consciousness. I know a few people who have

The Battered Women s Movement
In the early days of the battered women s movement, feminists wanted to establish new forms of
structural organization by distancing themselves from the hierarchy of mainstream institutions.
However, one of the problems radical feminists had was the funding of their autonomous
institutions. Feminists faced the challenge of creating autonomous institutions that would engage
with mainstream institutions (Reinelt and Ferree, 73). While liberal feminists wanted to reform
existing political institutions, radical feminists were in favor of organizing alternative autonomous
institutions. Although more battered women s shelters started to form due to the support of local
and state governments, radical activists feared that these shelters would become

France s Recent Economic Activity
Global Business Context Assignment 2008 Part 1: France s economic performance over the last 40
years can be illustrated using three main macroeconomic variables; unemployment, inflation and
GDP. When comparing them against each other, we can explain the relationships between each
variable. (A table of the variables can be found in the appendix.) This graph shows that although
there appears to be no direct relationship between GDP and unemployment until after around 1986,
a correlation begins after this point. As we would expect to see, GDP increases as the rate of
unemployment falls and vice versa. Unemployment has been increasing since 1970 and continued
until around 1986, eventually peaking with very high rates of nearly 12%... Show more content on

This part of supply side policy leads to a more efficient use of resources within the public sector
and simultaneously, a reduction in its size. It should allow for investment to increase with no
shift in the aggregate demand curve, avoiding rises in inflation. (Sloman 2005) Tax cuts also
feature heavily in supply side policy and were a key component of the Thatcher and Major
governments between 1979 and 1997. Sarkozy has also proposed tax cuts, capping income tax
at 50% for the highest earners. Twinned with making the 35 hour week more flexible by
including tax free overtime in his policy, this reinforces Sarkozy s slogan, work more to earn
more . (bbc.co.uk) This may result in the substitution effect as people spend more time working
and less time on leisure activities. How this will impact on the circular flow of income in the
long run is uncertain as it is unpredictable whether the money will continue to circulate or the
French will be inspired to save. Sarkozy s recently executed policy to reduce the power of labour
by passing a law restricting strikes is also similar to Thatcher s policies which included
weakening the influence of unions, resulting in them losing political pressure. (Sloman 2005)

Irony In Ballad Of Birmingham
In the Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall, the story focuses around an African American girl
who wants to go march in downtown Birmingham so that she in contributing to the protest for
freedom. Her mother refuses to let her young girl go due to the horrible violence that it entitles.
Instead of going to the march, the mothersends her innocent child to church instead thinking that
she would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church
and not at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes
the entire meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963.
Though she begged but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9
10), the girl s mother would not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. The freedom
marches were anything but pleasant because like the mother says, I fear those guns will fire
(Randall 14). Dogs were released on African Americans, they were doused in water from firetruck
hoses, and even gun fire made an appearance in response to their protests. The freedom... Show

Families attended church feeling safe and secure because no one ever died in church. Her
mother knew if her daughter participated in the march that she may not make it home as the
chance of death was present, so she sent her to the one place she thought she would be safe. Her
daughter was to be at no risk attending church and singing in the choir unlike the march as it was
a chaos of violence. Therefore, the fact that the child died in a church bombing instead of at the
Freedom March is nothing but irony, and it shapes this poem entirely. The one place that is sacred

Submission And Action Of Religious Heroines
Submission and Action of Religious Heroines Written expressly to convey the main beliefs and
principles of their respective religions, the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and the Hebrew Bible
are composed as epic histories and biographies of mythic figures, whose lives act as fables to
teach these principles to the educated, uninitiated believers. In most cases, these fables are told
through a heroic male character, blessed by God or a god, who fulfills a destiny defined by his
relationship with divine will, often as a leader of the community or nation, or as a savior of his
people. However, in rare cases these stories will accentuate a particular value through the use of

She notes that the faithful thing for the people to do... was to surrender, referring to the established
tradition within Biblical texts of trusting God to protect all his worshipers while the nation of
Israel did nothing in its own defense (Day 77). Day believes that Judith s reaction, calling the
Bethulian leaders faithless for choosing not to take action against the army of Holofernes, is
therefore strongly contradictory to traditional teachings. However, I would argue that rather than
indicating Judith is slightly impious, Judith s declaration reflects a deeper understanding of the
nature of divine will. Judith expresses that God will act through her, and that rather than perform
a miracle, He will empower her to defeat Holofernes. Moreover, Judith is proven correct, as her
actions are the salvation of the city of Bethulia. While she gives due credit to God in her
explanation of the events at Holofernes camp, Judith is nevertheless a key instigator of the events,
as well as a conduit for the author to declare that, in essence, all that transpires is God s will, and
therefore whatever action mankind takes must also be divinely ordained. This assertion implicitly
permits Judith to take action against Holofernes, where otherwise a woman in such a compromising
and dangerous situation may be shunned by her community for being unchaste, or for being
perceived as such. Judith here takes on the characteristics of a masculine hero,

Pop, Country, Rap, Or Classical Music
Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination,
and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. ~Plato. Plato was one of the more highly regarded
philosophers of his time. H e made some fantastic discoveried throughout his life, but this might be
one of the more relevant and profound to today s society. Music can be described in so many ways.
Even more than in Platos time because he probably wasn t busting rhymes in a rap battle every
other weekend. Although music has evolved highly since his time, his statement remains true.

The idea of rap is all about music that is not understandable and confusing. The ultimate sound of
rap resounds as garbled and electronic. The idea of rap revolves around lack of musical talent and
relying on a computer. Although this is not everyone s position, it is true, but Pop has a different
sound. The sound of pop still hints at the electronic nature of rap, but it differs in the fact that it is
understandable. It still lacks the true instrumental sound that country and classical entertain. The
pop usually has strong vocals and good harmony, but it retains the computerized sound that is
similar to rap. Moving on, Classical has a simple, yet complex sound. It has lost all of the complex
electronic sound that rap and pop retain. This genre falls short in the category of understanding.
Especially when teachers play it too loudly during a test. Although it usually has the smoothest
sound, the vocals can sometimes be too long and confusing. Finally, Country has the best sound out
of these four type of music. The genre of Country music has a complex mix of instruments without
the complex computerization. It also is very understandable and the sound is comforting in a

Nicomachean Ethics By Aristotle
In the Book X of the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle concludes that a life of contemplation is the
highest human activity. Aristotle states that the life of reason and contemplation will be the
happiest because the gods are the happiest among all of us, and contemplation is characteristic of
their own lives. Aristotleexplained this statement in details when he states that the life of
contemplation is more Godlike and since God is all powerful it is safe to say that this life will
lead us to the happiest and best life. These arguments are sound because he believes the life of
contemplation to be the best life because it is the most Godlike. And since it is Godlike it can be
considered the best life. This is therefore sound because what is considered... Show more content on

He explains this by stating that the gods do not have any need to worry about things humans
worry about, will not the gods seem absurd if they make contracts and return deposits, and so
on? Acts of brave men, then confronting dangers and running risks because it is noble to do so?
the circumstances of action would be found trivial and unworthy of the gods (Aristotle, p.12).
Aristotle states that since the gods do not take part in any of these actions then they are left with
only the life of contemplation. Since the life of contemplation is seen as a way of acquiring
knowledge and wisdom, then contemplative life is most worthy of the gods. And since the gods
are wise and powerful it makes sense that they are continuously contemplating. Humans have the
mind of fearing the gods and always want to please them. And we since we want to please the
gods then we should follow how they live their lives which is the life of contemplation. Therefore
as the followers of the gods it is only reasonable that if the gods live a life of contemplation we the
followers should as

Living in a family group called packs makes the wolves a well organized species. Wolves are very
social and intelligent animals.
Life cycle
Gray wolves only breed once a year from between January to March. (Typically, only the male
and female pack leaders.) After a 63 day gestation period, the mother will give birth to an average
of 4 6 pups around the months of April to May. When the pups are born, they are deaf and blind,
weighing in about 1 pound. During the first 3 weeks, while the pups are nursing every 4 6 hours,

They represent the middle class and in most cases, the subordinates were Omegas that had climbed
up the social ladder by dominating other members of the pack. They re usually submissive towards
the wolves who are higher up the hierarchy. Occasionally, the subordinates could become the new
Alpha wolf by fighting their pack leaders. They can actually skip the Beta position and become the
new Alpha.
The Omega Wolf
Omega wolves are at the very bottom of the pack hierarchy. The Omegas are the ones who feed
last and if their Alpha demands it, they won t eat at all. Often the other members of the pack will
bully the Omegas. But the Omega does play a very important role in the pack. The Omegas help
the other members of the pack vent off conflicts without causing acts of war.
In recent studies they show that their contribution goes far beyond internal conflict resolution. It
seems that packs who lose their Omegas will stop all hunting and begin to mourn them. Within their
pack, they can fight their way up to the top of the hierarchy, but the Omegas status can only be
earned by defeating their opponents on multiple occasions until the others recognize their
dominance.

Utilitarianism And Cultural Relativism
Jeremy Bentham is a teleological/consequential philosopher or consequentialist, one who focuses
on the consequences and ends instead of intention and actions. Bentham s focus carries more weight
than that of Immanuel Kant or John Stuart Mill and their views. Jeremy Bentham s philosophy
focuses on measuring pain and pleasure for the greatest number of morally significant beings
through their actions. Bentham presents guidelines that measure the intensity, duration, (un)
certainty, propinquity, fecundity, and extent of the pain and pleasure that a certain action beholds
and uses these measurements to determine if the action promotes the greatest good (being pleasure
in Bentham s case) for the greatest number of morally significant beings (Hoff 2017).
On the other hand, Cultural Relativism, focuses on a specific culture and their beliefs, practices,
and ethical values of that culture and how the culture s values are right for that specific culture or
group (Hoff 2017). Jeremy Bentham s philosophy of Act Utilitarianism would possibly criticize
cultural relativism due to the idea that a specific culture and their beliefs, practices, and ethical
values are right for that specific culture. Overall, a culture would possess a higher number of
morally significant beings who are pleasured in that culture due to the idea that that was all they
knew. Bentham would use that idea to measure the pleasure and pain of the morally significant
beings in that culture/society and

The Pros And Cons Of Assassination As A Tool Of Modern...
The changing face of conflict has brought about an evolution on how we conduct and even think
about warfare. Gross (2010) states that assassination was once prohibited under the statutes of
international law but has increasingly become common in the modern day battlefield. A dilemma is
presented when we question is there any ethical basis of using assassination as a tool of modern
warfare. There is increasing realization that one cannot engage in war using the conventional
means. Terrorismand insurgence being the new methods employed in modern warfare mean
fighting using conventional rules puts one at a major disadvantage. The killing of Osama Bin

Osama bin Laden s case was special since while he was not the head of a government, he was the
leader of a terrorist organization that was engaged in terrorist attacks against the United States. And
as concluded by White (2012) this notion can be used to support the rationale of using terrorism
as a tool of war on some specific special targets. Assassination though is not a just means of
engaging in warfare as explained by Gross (2010) since there is no basis of choosing who is a
terrorist engaging in warfare and who is not a terrorist. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist
by the South African government but he subsequently became a head of state and leader of
South Africa. If assassination was used as a tool to eliminate him then it would complicate the
justification of assassination as stated by White (2012) as a tool to eliminate terrorists in the
event of a war. Mandela transformed from being a terrorist to a Nobel Peace prize winner. Justice
cannot be served through assassinations as a method of war. The discretion of whether to use it or
not cannot be left to the whims of those in government since they could use it on any of their so
called enemies whom they could label as

people refer to, when dealing with equality in America. A feature through the different selections in
American Dreams is equality because America is a place where everyone has the same opportunity
to achieve anything. Equalityand opportunity given to people has evolved since the founding
fathers, but there s been stages in America s history where equality is only given to specific people,
not everyone. Equality and opportunity are elements in involved in the song, This Land is Your
Land, by Woody Guthrie. Everyone who is born in America has an equal opportunity to do
anything in mind. Woody Guthrie writes, As I was walking that ribbon of highway I saw above
me that endless skyway, I saw below me that golden valleys: This land for you and me (Guthrie
54). In other words, Guthrie said it does not matter what a person s situation may be. Whether a
person is poor or wealthy the opportunity for them to be successful is there for the taking. Despite
a person s background, he or she has the opportunity to have any career or lifestyle he or she
wants. Being born to Mexican parents who do not have any education and work in labor jobs
does not prohibit me from trying to achieve my dreams. The equality given to Americans is the
same, whether a child is born to famous celebrity or to a poor person and should have no effect on
his or her equality with others. If a celebrity

Frank Jackson and Physicalism Essay
Frank Jackson and Physicalism
Frank Jackson begins his article by writing about what he feels to be a fatal flaw in physicalism.
He writes a story about a girl named Mary who is raised in a black and white room. In this room
Mary was taught everything there is to know about the physical world. The only catch is she
learned only from media, which was black and white, so she knows nothing of the colors outside
this room. After learning everything about the physical world, she is then given the chance to see
color. She will then learn what color is in the world. For this reason Jackson believes physicalism to
be false. Jackson contends that if physicalism were true, Mary would know what a color looks like
before she would ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with this for physicalism is that fact Mary would realize how mistaken her knowledge
of other s conceptions has been. Even though Mary would have known all of the neurological
processes in a person s mind, she would not have known the person s actual experience involved
in the process. There would also be facts she did not know about objects, but she would know all
physical facts about them. For this reason it is not any experience the object may have, but a
fact about the object itself. In the article the main point seems to be the fact that, for example,
Mary would see red for the first time she would be learning something. However, physicalism is
not threatened merely by the fact Mary learns something. The factor disproving physicalism is
the fact Mary learns something new about the object that is red. For example she can see a
tomato is now read. Her teachings showed her all physical attributes to the tomato and she would
know everything about it. The problem is that she had no idea what red was until she saw red,
therefore she did not know everything physical about the tomato. If physicalism were true, Mary
would have known exactly what the red tomato looked like before she saw it, including the
redness it displayed. After reading the Jackson article I have concluded that I agree with the points
being made against physicalism. The example that I believe disproves physicalism is trying to

Why Should Animal Cloning Be Banned
Human and animal cloning should be banned, that s what i believe. Animal cloning is not as bad
as human cloning but it should be banned. The procedure to clone a human or a animal is
difficult, risky, and most important expensive. Also many people are against it and if it becomes
legal or official it could cause polemics between our people and religions.
Human cloning is a very controversial theme. The reason why it is controversial is because of
their religion beliefs. Many religions do not approve human nor animal cloning. Human cloning
could disrupt the peace between our citizens due to their beliefs. Human cloning (reproductive)
requires of a woman s body, and if cloning is approved and made legal or official, in a couple of
years there would be an exploration of women s bodies. Just how Bush the ex president of the
United States of America said in the article President Bush calls on Senate to Back Human
Cloning Ban. In the article What Ever Happened to Cloning? it gave us a good reason why
cloning is bad. Leonard (the writer) stated that a study revealed that the sheep created from the
same biological matter used to make Dolly, the first cloned mammal, were aging normally and
living healthful crumbling and apparently widely held impression that cloning created unhealthy
animals. This study is very important because if it creates unhealthy humans. This type of
cloning should be banned until it s totally safe, not 80% or 90%, 100% safe. Also a cloned child
would have to live a depressing childhood if the religious people around him know he/she is a
cloned child, this children would most likely live a dark life. Animal cloning is not such a good
idea too. As how the article what ever happened to cloning? stated, cloning makes unhealthy
animals. There is no reason to clone common animals like cats, dogs, or even birds. Why clone
animals that can probably develop an unhealthy life. Instead of cloning cats and dogs, why not
adopt the ones that don t have a home? There are many of them out there in the streets and in dog
pounds that need a home, a lovely owner. There are not just a couple of them, there are hundreds
and thousands of them dying out there, and we are just going to clone the ones that

Theme Of Loss In Birdsong
The theme of loss is also shown through all three writers work, demonstrated through the
destruction and brutality of the war. In Birdsong Stephen appears a strange and isolated figure at
the beginning of the novel who brings with him concepts of unrest, as he possesses a knife with a
singular scrupulously sharpened blade which suggests the idea of conflict. As well as losing
Isabelle in a romantic sense, he experiences extreme loss and privation throughout his time in the
war, particularly the lossof Weir and Jack Firebrace that are dealt with in graphic but simplistic
language. Weir s death occurs suddenly and within one paragraph his face is said to be smashing
unprotected into mud . Stephen is pained by his death and even feels he had loved him and he had

When he dies, Stephen is left alone in the tunnel feeling bitterly alone , which demonstrates the
need for companionship to survive. The idea of loss is also shown when Elizabeth visits the
memorial and notices the columns teeming with names of unfound soldiers. Her response to
this is one of shock as she appeared unaware of the multitude of deaths and collapses saying My
God, nobody told me . This emphasises the extent of loss from a postwar perspective, which
makes it appear even more tragic. As Birdsong was written after the war, its purpose was to
commemorate the losses and honour the dead, as well as educate and promote remembrance.
Loss features just as graphically in Dulce et Decorum Est written by Owen during his time in
Craiglockheart hospital, as it is a poem that uses Latin to mock the glory of war and demonstrate
the pain and death it can cause. The poem describes a true account of a soldier being unable to
protect himself quickly enough during a gas attack and the haunting effect of this helpless

The Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On Society
Do you ever look around in our busy everyday life full of car rides, texting, internet, high speed
travel, etc. and wonder how and when we made the jump from horse drawn carriages to modern
day life? The Industrial Revolution is one of the greatest and most impactful time in our nation s
history that made all of these changes come to life and impacted not just the people who lived
during the time, but even the life we re living today. The Industrial Revolutioncreated many new
types of industries, businesses, and products that changed the consumer culture of the time along
with society as a whole. This not only includes society from that time period but for modern day
life as well. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe and it really took off in Britain in the
early 1700 s. Prior to the revolution people lived in small rural town and most life revolved
around farming or very low income jobs. Many people made their own cloths, built their own tools,
made there own furniture, and produced their own food. The Industrial Revolution was the movent
that changed this way of life and made it so the rural lifestylewasn t the main way of living
anymore. Britain was the ideal society to start off the Industrial Revolution because they had a
politically strong economy at the time, and they sat on huge deposits of iron and coal which was a
great influence on the Revolution and its needs. Eventually this Revolution made its way to the
United States. During the time of the 19th

Theme Of Alienation In Catcher In The Rye
Jerome David Salinger is the author of the nation wide known bestseller The Catcher in the Rye.
Salinger was born January 1, 1919 in Manhattan, to a prosperous family. He flunked out of
several schools and become the writer he was meant to be. His dream was obscured when he
enlisted in World War II and married the beautiful Sylvia (Steven). The Catcher in the Rye
describes the three day journey of young Holden Caulfield, creating some controversy because
of its deeper meaning.Caulfield roams around New York while trying to find his place in society.
J.D. Salinger traces and develops the theme of alienation in his novel The Catcher in the Rye
through Holden Caulfield. Holden s questionable alienation brews from his family. His family
family is separated as the children as scattered throughout the world and the parents are always
working and not communicating with their children (Mitchell). The lack of parental love and the
desire not to grow up cause Holden to become isolated and introverted (Slabey). Caulfield tries to
get the attention of his parents, who seem to completely neglect him, by flunking out of multiple
schools and causing trouble. When he found out his parents do not love him, he decides to
alienation himself, thinking it will cause his parents to love him again. Holden s character could
also be the blame for his alienation. Salinger creates Holden to have the perfect characteristics to be
isolated. As Bennett criticizes, Holden is always ... complaining about

Essay on Unbearable Lightness of being
A touching and sad novel, at once a compelling love story, philosophical text, and dialogue with
Frederich Nietzsche The Unbearable Lightness of Being is all of these and more, perhaps most
importantly a manifesto of embracing nihilism. Milan Kundera opens the novel with a discourse
on Nietzsche s doctrine of the eternal recurrence. He rejects any view of the recurrence as being
real or metaphysical. It is metaphorical he assures us. In a world of objective meaninglessness one
must fall into nihilism unless one acts as if one s acts recur eternally, thus giving our acts
quot;weight, quot; the weight of those choices we make, as though recurring eternally, living
forever. Kundera rejects Nietzsche s optimism and in compelling detail... Show more content on

Tomas follows in a few days, knowing that somehow this is crazy and he is condemning himself
to misery, but he must go, it is his fate and he returns. In a second incident he had published a
letter to the editor in a newspaper which explored the notion of being responsible for acts
whether or not one KNEW the outcome. His model case was Oedipus who had no idea he was
violating so many social and moral rules of his society. Tomas is speaking about those in
Czechoslovakia who acted in a similar manner toward the Russians. Later on this is taken as a
socially subversive point of view and he is asked to retract. For reasons he himself hardly
understands he refuses and his refusal causes him to be banned as a physician and condemned
to low level manual labor, first in Prague and later on a collective farm in a rural area. But even
these choice are more his fate than a choice of meaning. The notion of fate, or what Nietzsche
refers to as quot;amor fati quot; (love of fate) is the notion that nature somehow presents us with
situations which we cannot escape and we simply have to bear them. Tomas must accept and bear
his love for Tereza no matter how painful and hopeless. He must accept his Oedipus letter no matter
the consequences. Yet, even this acceptance cannot escape the ultimate quot;unbearable lightness
of being, quot; the meaninglessness of all our acts in a world in which our acts simply don t live

The Four Freedoms Analysis
In his speech The Four Freedoms Franklin D Roosevelt addresses to the state of the union (the
people) the vindication for the direct association of the United States in WWII. The historical
context behind this was that after WWI U.S had taken an isolation stance to avoid U.S
involvement in any wars. He believed that it was reasonable to provide England with the
supplies they needed for the war because sooner or later U.S will be forced to get involved in the
war. Roosevelt main point for the speech was to present the four freedoms; which include the
freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear. Not only does
he mentions that these freedoms are essential for the Americans, but also everyone else in the world.

Essay about Andrew Jackson, an Ideal President for America
Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States of America, can be debated as either a
good president or bad president. But if one were to weigh out the positives and negatives of
Andrew Jackson s presidency, one would realize that his positives outweigh his negatives for a
variety of historic facts. Andrew Jacksonwas a good president because he represented the majority
of America s people by being a common, prevented a civil war when South Carolina threatened to
secede from the nation, and because he technically found or instigated the two major parties used

Jackson is very important because he created or instigated the two dominant political parties we
use today (democratic and republican). The beliefs in these parties switched several times in
history but initially Jackson was a democrat. The major beliefs in democrats in the 1820s 1850s
were the beliefs in a small national government, pro states rights, and a strict interpretation of the
constitution. The republicans (initially known as the Whigs) essentially opposed all of Jackson
s beliefs and therefore had more or less the complete opposite beliefs of the democrats. By
starting these two political parties, he started the way people would categorize political
candidates throughout the rest of American history. There are many who are against Andrew
Jackson because he is a hypocrite. An example of this is how Jackson states he is against slavery
but still owned slaves. One has to understand that America was founded on hypocrisy. Essentially
what Jackson is trying to do is to make compromises on situations so he can support both sides of
an argument to represent as many people as possible. Conclusively Jackson was a great president
because he represented the people of America by being a common man, overcame huge obstacles
such as keeping South Carolina from seceding, and by forming the two most popular political
parties used in America today, the Democrats and the Republicans. Those who argue that Jackson
was a bad president simply

Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda Essay
Virgil s Aeneid as Roman Propaganda
Rome was experiencing a great deal of internal turmoil during the period when Virgil wrote the
Aeneid. There was somewhat of an identity crisis in Rome as it had no definitive leader, or history.
With the ascension of Augustus to the throne, Rome was unified again. Still, it had no great book.
The Greeks had their Odyssey, giving them a sense of history and of continuity through time. A
commonly held view is that the Aeneid attempts to provide the Romans with this sense of
continuity or roots. There is a great deal of textual evidence to support this interpretation. Virgil
makes numerous references to the greatness of Rome through ancient prophecies. Clearly, the entire
poem is an account of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two methods allow Virgil to connect his Rome very closely to the story of Aeneas, and give
the Aeneid a great deal of historical credibility in the eyes of his contemporaries.
It was very critical to Virgil that a believable sense of history be achieved in his writing. At the
beginning of Book VI, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is introduced when the Trojans
see it carved into the temple doors (lines 21 50). There is a second time in the text that such a
reference to the past is made in a similar fashion. This occurs in Book I when Aeneas observes
the carvings on the walls of Juno s temple at Carthage (lines 619 762). In these two incidents, the
same technique of recalling history is employed. Virgil seems to imply that the best way that he
can describe history is to tell it with the help of the gods, which in this case that would be the
Muse that he has called upon in Book I to assist him (line 13). At the time, the knowledge of the
Muses was considered to be the objective truth while the knowledge of the mortals was
considered to be secondhand and imperfect. The distinction between the two is made with the
story of Daedalus. Virgil gives an elaborate account of what he knows of the event, and then
omits the ending which he does not know: Twice your father tried to shape your fall in gold, but
twice his hands dropped. (Book VI, lines 49 50) By wording the story so that Daedalus does not

The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
Women are objectified Others. The Second Sex written by Simone de Beauvoir explores the
oppression of women forced into the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second
chapter The Girl , de Beauvoir studies the idea of this oppression during the transition from a girl to
a woman. She coins the term of the Other to explain the phenomenon of female inessentiality and
persecution. The Other is an opponent of a female s sovereignty and limits freedoms. Simone De
Beauvoir expounds a girl s transition into an inessential object to men through the motif of the
Other to demonstrates women s role during first wave feminism.
The idea of the Other is used to solidify women s position as inessential beings. According to de

On the other hand, women and inessential ; they are disposable and are merely an object in the
eyes of men and society. The transition from a girl into an inessential object is marked by
adolescence.
Adolescence triggers the impending transition to the Other. The looming evolution from a free
innocent child is marked by puberty. During adolescence, she must denounce her past freedoms and
accept her role a second rate individual. De Beauvoir denotes the transition;
This is why adolescence is such a difficult and decisive moment for women. Until then, she was an
autonomous individual: she now has to renounce her sovereignty. Not only is she torn like her
brothers, and more acutely, between her past and future, but in addition a conflict breaks put
between her ordinary claim to be subject, activity, and freedom, on the other, her erotic tendencies
and the social pressure to assume herself as a passive object. (348)
Women must reject basic human desires to fit the model of the Other. Women suppress their
freedoms, sexual desires and basic human tendencies to adhere to social pressures. De Beauvoir
comments on how women must give up their claim to be subject and subsequently adopt the role of
the object. Men are the only true subjects and therefore to reach womanhood a girl must renounce
sovereignty to become an object. Objects require complete submission to the subject and
consequently give up freedoms the had access to previously.

Genetic Disease And Its Effects On The Body
Introduction Genetic diseases are being discovered more often as we learn the affects that genes
have on the body. McArdle s disease is a metabolic disease that affects skeletal muscle because of
a gene mutation. The genetic mutation prevents the creation of the enzyme myophosphorylase.
This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of glycogen in muscles (Haldeman Englert, 2014).
McArdle s disease is also known as Type V Glycogen Storage Disorder. It affects approximately one
out of every 100,000 people ( McArdlesDisease.org, n.d.). Glycogen is broken down into glucose,
which is used to produce adenosine triphosphatefor muscleenergy. Patients can live relatively
normal lives with this disease once proper care and education has been provided (Kitaoka, 2014).
Genetic Nature McArdle s disease is seen as muscle dysfunction caused by a mutation in the gene
that codes for the enzyme myophosphorylase. The myophosphorylase gene, PYGM, is located at
chromosome 11q13 (Kitaoka, 2014). There have been over 100 mutations of the gene detected. In
North American Caucasians, the mutation commonly found is the p.R50X (Kitaoka, 2014). In
Japanese patients, it is found to be the p.F709del/F710de mutation (Kitaoka, 2014). Researchers
have seen a correlation between ethnicity and the type of mutation of that they carry. All the
mutations cause a lack of the myophosphorylase enzyme in the muscle tissue. It is found to be an
autosomal recessive inheritance trait. Those who are heterozygotes

Summary Of Pico Iyer s Where World Collide
Imagine believing a fantasy only to be faced with a harsh reality. In Pico Iyer s Essay, Where
World Collide, Iyer depicts multiple bustling scenes he witnesses at the Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX). Through his interactions, his observations of travelers at the airport, and his own
perceptions based on his viewpoint as an immigrant traveling to a land often fantasized about, Iyer
makes several assertions about Los Angeles. Through diction, juxtapositions, humor, and anecdotes
in his essay, Iyer demonstrates that Los Angeles is not some wonderful fantasy that many believe it
to be; but that it is instead representative of the cultural melting pot that is the world. Iyer begins
the piece on a rather vague note. He introduces the essay in third person referring to they .
Although this they is not revealed until further paragraphs, through his descriptions of places and
concepts related to Los Angeles, such as the Dodgers, Disneyland, or airport shuttles, the reader
soon can conclude that this they are travelers and they are at no other than LAX. Through his use
of third person Iyer helps to show multiple perspectives of how coming to Los Angeles may be. In
each of these perspectives he highlights the enthusiasm of these travelers thus helping to strengthen
his assertion that to many newcomers, Los Angeles is often a fantasy. He also introduces the
concept of Los Angeles being like a dream to immigrants and tourists through his use of diction
when referencing Los

Physical Monuments Controversy When looking at the controversial argument over the importance of physical monuments and memorials it is important to consider the following, location, size, and the controversy these monuments bring up. The debate over the location, size, and what these statutes represent are all important in considering the long term effects these monuments and memorials have on the world. The issue over location of monuments is an important one to consider because of the different meanings each statue has to different people and where those ides are being represented. For example, Downes, states that the Crazy Horse Memorialin the Black Hills, South Dakota is definitely an unnatural landmark. A similar opinion from Musser about the effect of location states, memory of the Holocaust would be built in the United States, who did little to stop the Holocaust from occurring. In regards to Crazy Horse specifically, one of its main purposes is to never finish and to gain more and more money from clueless tourists every year. According to Leatrice Big Crow, the memorial was one of those things that could go on swallowing money and effort forever. • 4. The Amendment Rights Must Be The Most Controversial... Second Amendment rights must be the most controversial section of the Constitution, it most definitely has to be the most challenged. Lawsuits have been brought up against the Second Amendment for many years, challenging whether or not it should still be a part of the Constitution, and the meaning behind the verbiage used. The anti gun crowd has attempted multiple times to prove the Second Amendment should apply only to a militia and that the average citizen has no right to own a firearm. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is the largest lobbyist group for pro gun rights and one of the most powerful interest groups in politics today. They have successfully supported the defense of the peoples right to own firearms for many years. After many years of failing to accomplish their agenda, the anti gun crowd has a new tactic: instead of facing the multimillion members of the NRA (Statistic Brain Research Institute, 2014) they are now going after the gun manufacturers and dealers. They cannot stop the sale of guns therefore they want to eliminate the source. This paper will identify the historical foundation of the Second Amendment, describe the National Rifle Association s involvement, and site the legal precedence and challenges. Load Optimum Mpls Routing With Routers And Links Load Optimum MPLS Routing with Routers and Links (N+M) ABSTRACT: MPLS is now a days the most important thing in the intra domain routing (i.e. routing in own domain or network). The main advantage of MPLS is the flexibility it offers towards traffic engineering ex. To support higher demand without overloading any links. Most of the major vendors are now offering MPLS routers and many ISPs are deploying MPLS in their IP backbone as well as in ATMs and frame relays. Because of this increase in transition to MPLS we are required to increase our knowledge towards the importance and limitations of MPLS. It can provide applications like Traffic Engineering, Quality of Service and Virtual Private Networks. The packets in MPLS are directed through the network based on an assigned label. The label is associated through the network with an assigned path which allows a higher level of control on the packets than in packet switched networks. MPLS routing allow differing QoS characteristics and priorities to be assigned to particular data flows. Traffic Engineering explains the optimization of fundamental abilities of the network [2]. Traffic Engineering is the process of controlling how traffic flows through ones network so as to optimize resource utilization and network performance [3]. It is performed by detouring the traffic to paths that are lightly loaded in order to balance the load amongst the paths as per the various calculated metrics. These can be divided as two types. They are state dependent and time dependent. Both of them are focused to balance the traffic so that they can avoid the congestion. State dependent policies change the traffic in short time scale depending on different metrics calculated both online and offline of the present traffic and the time dependent policies engineer it based on long time scaling. Both these methods aim to balance the traffic so as to avoid the congestion. The problem that we face while using previous MPLS routing solutions is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Marc Lewis Reflection Critical Thinking Assignment #3 Since I have been reading the life of Marc Lewis I find myself always becoming more and more excited about what is going to happen next. So far it has been filled with ups and down and me trying to predict what will happen next on his journey. While reading chapter 6 I was so elated that Marc had gotten accepted to college, it seems as though he actually has a plan for himself and is determined to exceed every goal. But normally good things don t always last for a time and for some reason I could sense that something was about to happen. For those of us who were not given the opportunity to have a silver spoon in their mouth or even those who had the spoon but chose not to use it acquire a different meaning in life. Growing up I lived in the projects, with drug dealers and snotty nosed kids who only aspiration when they grew up was to get out of the projects. Thankfully at a young age I was adopted by my grandparents and just like Marc Lewis a new door opened and I was finally given a chance at life itself. I truly believe that when people are presented with things that inspire them to do better or be better then they will change their attitude on everything. They begin to create dreams of being successful, studious and eventually become so set in their goals that even when things go bad they choose not to focus on them because of the complete turnaround they just achieved. Although marc seemed to be doing great I could tell that he didn t want to do the complete turnaround, I say this because he was still smoking hash, it was evident that it had become apart of his new lifestyle whether he actually wanted it to or not. He began to put a phosaude, almost like when you re high around your parents and try to act as normal as possible. He said that the trick is to balance anxiety and ecstasy and in all honesty I had no clue to what he was trying to say. The psychedelic drugs caused his thoughts to go from normal thoughts like what he wanted to eat or buy and would quickly change to his possible enemies such as customers, children and President Ronald Reagan. Instead of going to the march, the mothersends her innocent child to church instead thinking that she would be safer there than in Birmingham. What are the odds that her daughter died in church and not at the march? Nothing bad could happen, right? The single most key element that shapes the entire meaning on the poem is the irony in the situation that actually took place in 1963. Though she begged but, mother, I won t be alone, / other children will go with me (Randall 9 10), the girl s mother would not allow her child to be put in the face of danger. However, I would argue that rather than indicating Judith is slightly impious, Judith s declaration reflects a deeper understanding of the nature of divine will. Judith expresses that God will act through her, and that rather than perform a miracle, He will empower her to defeat Holofernes. Moreover, Judith is proven correct, as her actions are the salvation of the city of Bethulia. While she gives due credit to God in her explanation of the events at Holofernes camp, Judith is nevertheless a key instigator of the events, as well as a conduit for the author to declare that, in essence, all that transpires is God s will, and therefore whatever action mankind takes must also be divinely ordained. Aristotleexplained this statement in details when he states that the life of contemplation is more Godlike and since God is all powerful it is safe to say that this life will lead us to the happiest and best life. Since the life of contemplation is seen as a way of acquiring knowledge and wisdom, then contemplative life is most worthy of the gods. Utilitarianism And Cultural Relativism Jeremy Bentham is a teleological/consequential philosopher or consequentialist, one who focuses on the consequences and ends instead of intention and actions. Bentham s focus carries more weight than that of Immanuel Kant or John Stuart Mill and their views. Jeremy Bentham s philosophy focuses on measuring pain and pleasure for the greatest number of morally significant beings through their actions. Bentham presents guidelines that measure the intensity, duration, (un) certainty, propinquity, fecundity, and extent of the pain and pleasure that a certain action beholds and uses these measurements to determine if the action promotes the greatest good (being pleasure in Bentham s case) for the greatest number of morally significant beings (Hoff 2017). On the other hand, Cultural Relativism, focuses on a specific culture and their beliefs, practices, and ethical values of that culture and how the culture s values are right for that specific culture or group (Hoff 2017). Jeremy Bentham s philosophy of Act Utilitarianism would possibly criticize cultural relativism due to the idea that a specific culture and their beliefs, practices, and ethical values are right for that specific culture. Assassination though is not a just means of engaging in warfare as explained by Gross (2010) since there is no basis of choosing who is a terrorist engaging in warfare and who is not a terrorist. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist by the South African government but he subsequently became a head of state and leader of South Africa. If assassination was used as a tool to eliminate him then it would complicate the justification of assassination as stated by White (2012) as a tool to eliminate terrorists in the event of a war. The only catch is she learned only from media, which was black and white, so she knows nothing of the colors outside this room. There would also be facts she did not know about objects, but she would know all physical facts about them. For this reason it is not any experience the object may have, but a fact about the object itself. In the article the main point seems to be the fact that, for example, Mary would see red for the first time she would be learning something. The procedure to clone a human or a animal is difficult, risky, and most important expensive. The reason why it is controversial is because of their religion beliefs. Many religions do not approve human nor animal cloning. Human cloning could disrupt the peace between our citizens due to their beliefs. Human cloning (reproductive) requires of a woman s body, and if cloning is approved and made legal or official, in a couple of years there would be an exploration of women s bodies. Leonard (the writer) stated that a study revealed that the sheep created from the same biological matter used to make Dolly, the first cloned mammal, were aging normally and living healthful crumbling and apparently widely held impression that cloning created unhealthy animals. This study is very important because if it creates unhealthy humans. This type of cloning should be banned until it s totally safe, not 80% or 90%, 100% safe. Also a cloned child would have to live a depressing childhood if the religious people around him know he/she is a cloned child, this children would most likely live a dark life. Animal cloning is not such a good idea too. As how the article what ever happened to cloning? stated, cloning makes unhealthy animals. There is no reason to clone common animals like cats, dogs, or even birds. Why clone animals that can probably develop an unhealthy life. Instead of cloning cats and dogs, why not adopt the ones that don t have a home? There are many of them out there in the streets and in dog pounds that need a home, a lovely owner. • 24. Theme Of Loss In Birdsong The theme of loss is also shown through all three writers work, demonstrated through the destruction and brutality of the war. In Birdsong Stephen appears a strange and isolated figure at the beginning of the novel who brings with him concepts of unrest, as he possesses a knife with a singular scrupulously sharpened blade which suggests the idea of conflict. As well as losing Isabelle in a romantic sense, he experiences extreme loss and privation throughout his time in the war, particularly the lossof Weir and Jack Firebrace that are dealt with in graphic but simplistic language. Weir s death occurs suddenly and within one paragraph his face is said to be smashing unprotected into mud . Stephen is pained by his death and even feels he had loved him and he had made the... The idea of loss is also shown when Elizabeth visits the memorial and notices the columns teeming with names of unfound soldiers. Her response to this is one of shock as she appeared unaware of the multitude of deaths and collapses saying My God, nobody told me . This emphasises the extent of loss from a postwar perspective, which makes it appear even more tragic. As Birdsong was written after the war, its purpose was to commemorate the losses and honour the dead, as well as educate and promote remembrance. Loss features just as graphically in Dulce et Decorum Est written by Owen during his time in Craiglockheart hospital, as it is a poem that uses Latin to mock the glory of war and demonstrate the pain and death it can cause. The poem describes a true account of a soldier being unable to protect himself quickly enough during a gas attack and the haunting effect of this helpless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Industrial Revolution And Its Impact On Society Do you ever look around in our busy everyday life full of car rides, texting, internet, high speed travel, etc. and wonder how and when we made the jump from horse drawn carriages to modern day life? The Industrial Revolution is one of the greatest and most impactful time in our nation s history that made all of these changes come to life and impacted not just the people who lived during the time, but even the life we re living today. The Industrial Revolutioncreated many new types of industries, businesses, and products that changed the consumer culture of the time along with society as a whole. This not only includes society from that time period but for modern day life as well. The Industrial Revolution started in Europe and it really took off in Britain in the early 1700 s. Essay on Unbearable Lightness of being A touching and sad novel, at once a compelling love story, philosophical text, and dialogue with Frederich Nietzsche The Unbearable Lightness of Being is all of these and more, perhaps most importantly a manifesto of embracing nihilism. Milan Kundera opens the novel with a discourse on Nietzsche s doctrine of the eternal recurrence. He rejects any view of the recurrence as being real or metaphysical. It is metaphorical he assures us. In a world of objective meaninglessness one must fall into nihilism unless one acts as if one s acts recur eternally, thus giving our acts quot;weight, quot; the weight of those choices we make, as though recurring eternally, living forever. His model case was Oedipus who had no idea he was violating so many social and moral rules of his society. Tomas is speaking about those in Czechoslovakia who acted in a similar manner toward the Russians. Later on this is taken as a socially subversive point of view and he is asked to retract. For reasons he himself hardly understands he refuses and his refusal causes him to be banned as a physician and condemned to low level manual labor, first in Prague and later on a collective farm in a rural area. But if one were to weigh out the positives and negatives of Andrew Jackson s presidency, one would realize that his positives outweigh his negatives for a variety of historic facts. Andrew Jacksonwas a good president because he represented the majority of America s people by being a common, prevented a civil war when South Carolina threatened to secede from the nation, and because he technically found or instigated the two major parties used in America today (Democratic and Republican). Jackson is very important because he created or instigated the two dominant political parties we use today (democratic and republican). The beliefs in these parties switched several times in history but initially Jackson was a democrat. The major beliefs in democrats in the 1820s 1850s were the beliefs in a small national government, pro states rights, and a strict interpretation of the constitution. The republicans (initially known as the Whigs) essentially opposed all of Jackson s beliefs and therefore had more or less the complete opposite beliefs of the democrats. By starting these two political parties, he started the way people would categorize political candidates throughout the rest of American history. There are many who are against Andrew Jackson because he is a hypocrite. An example of this is how Jackson states he is against slavery but still owned slaves. One has to understand that America was founded on hypocrisy. Essentially what Jackson is trying to do is to make compromises on situations so he can support both sides of an argument to represent as many people as possible. Conclusively Jackson was a great president because he represented the people of America by being a common man, overcame huge obstacles such as keeping South Carolina from seceding, and by forming the two most popular political parties used in America today, the Democrats and the Republicans. There was somewhat of an identity crisis in Rome as it had no definitive leader, or history. With the ascension of Augustus to the throne, Rome was unified again. Still, it had no great book. The Greeks had their Odyssey, giving them a sense of history and of continuity through time. These two methods allow Virgil to connect his Rome very closely to the story of Aeneas, and give the Aeneid a great deal of historical credibility in the eyes of his contemporaries. It was very critical to Virgil that a believable sense of history be achieved in his writing. At the beginning of Book VI, the story of Daedalus and his son Icarus is introduced when the Trojans see it carved into the temple doors (lines 21 50). There is a second time in the text that such a reference to the past is made in a similar fashion. This occurs in Book I when Aeneas observes the carvings on the walls of Juno s temple at Carthage (lines 619 762). In these two incidents, the same technique of recalling history is employed. Virgil seems to imply that the best way that he can describe history is to tell it with the help of the gods, which in this case that would be the Muse that he has called upon in Book I to assist him (line 13). At the time, the knowledge of the Muses was considered to be the objective truth while the knowledge of the mortals was considered to be secondhand and imperfect. The distinction between the two is made with the story of Daedalus. Virgil gives an elaborate account of what he knows of the event, and then omits the ending which he does not know: Twice your father tried to shape your fall in gold, but twice his hands dropped. During adolescence, she must denounce her past freedoms and accept her role a second rate individual. De Beauvoir denotes the transition; This is why adolescence is such a difficult and decisive moment for women. Until then, she was an autonomous individual: she now has to renounce her sovereignty. Not only is she torn like her brothers, and more acutely, between her past and future, but in addition a conflict breaks put between her ordinary claim to be subject, activity, and freedom, on the other, her erotic tendencies and the social pressure to assume herself as a passive object. De Beauvoir comments on how women must give up their claim to be subject and subsequently adopt the role of the object. McArdle s disease is a metabolic disease that affects skeletal muscle because of a gene mutation. The genetic mutation prevents the creation of the enzyme myophosphorylase. This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of glycogen in muscles (Haldeman Englert, 2014). McArdle s disease is also known as Type V Glycogen Storage Disorder. It affects approximately one out of every 100,000 people ( McArdlesDisease.org, n.d.). Glycogen is broken down into glucose, which is used to produce adenosine triphosphatefor muscleenergy. Patients can live relatively normal lives with this disease once proper care and education has been provided (Kitaoka, 2014). Genetic Nature McArdle s disease is seen as muscle dysfunction caused by a mutation in the gene that codes for the enzyme myophosphorylase. The myophosphorylase gene, PYGM, is located at chromosome 11q13 (Kitaoka, 2014). There have been over 100 mutations of the gene detected. In North American Caucasians, the mutation commonly found is the p.R50X (Kitaoka, 2014). In Japanese patients, it is found to be the p.F709del/F710de mutation (Kitaoka, 2014).
