NYU Langone Medical Center went live with a systems upgrade in order to deploy capital more effectively. With over 1,000 beds, 6 million sq. feet and a multi-billion dollar capital plan the Medical Center needed to streamline their construction project management processes and enhance their integration between their project and financial systems for superior planning and execution across their entire portfolio. To achieve this objective they engaged with Enstoa to deploy Primavera Unifier, integrate PeopleSoft with Unifier, launch a change management program and execute an extensive end user adoption/ training program. The Medical Center went through a transformative process in order to produce substantial cost savings, improve their quality of service, and mitigate risks with project execution.
The document defines a detailed project report (DPR) as a complete written report that provides details necessary for investment decisions, approval, and planning of a proposed business venture. A DPR goes beyond a prefeasibility study by covering maximum project details to help decision makers determine if a project should proceed. It identifies all commercial, technical, and entrepreneurial risks and includes information like market surveys, technology descriptions, resource evaluations, cost analyses, and implementation plans. The DPR serves as the base document for initiating, planning, implementing, and determining the costs of a new project.
In this presentation, Chris Vizzuett shows a practical use of Earned Value Management and Earned Schedule Management to develop a project performance dashboard
This document contains questions to help with the transition of a project from one team to another. It asks about understanding the purpose and benefits of the project, whether a business case has been developed, if technical requirements have been considered, and if key stakeholders have been identified and engaged. It also asks about the current status and performance of the project, resource needs, change management procedures, and project communication practices. The questions are intended to help a new team understand the background, requirements and status of a project being transitioned to them.
Architecture review vs Post Implementation ReviewESRI Bulgaria
This document discusses the differences between architecture reviews and post-implementation reviews. Architecture reviews evaluate a proposed software architecture design and identify potential risks, quality issues, and skill requirements before implementation. The document discusses the process of closing down a project. It identifies major tasks in project closure as evaluating if the project delivered expected benefits to stakeholders and assessing what was done well and what could be improved. Key aspects of closure include getting sign-off from customers, reassigning team members, evaluating performance, and creating a final report. It also stresses the importance of retrospective reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future projects. Conducting reviews and evaluations helps ensure projects and organizations continuously improve.
The document discusses the Logical Framework Approach (LFA), a systematic planning procedure used for project management. It describes the history and key features of the Logical Framework Matrix, including its hierarchy of objectives from activities to goal. The matrix maps the logical relationships between project components and defines objectives, indicators, assumptions and risks. It is a tool used for planning, monitoring and evaluating projects.
The document summarizes a global infrastructure planning kickoff meeting. It discusses developing a common understanding of the planning process, assigning roles and responsibilities, and defining deliverables and timelines. Specific roles of IT operations and engineering managers are outlined. Architecture, design, and roadmap philosophies are also defined, describing the purpose and composition of these documents and their appropriate audiences. Finally, expectations are set for architecture, design, and roadmap deliverables, and an exercise is described to develop an initial technology roadmap.
I have had the experience of working with different organisations that were keen to use a Portfolio and Project Management Tool (PPM).

This document contains a summary of Ankit Rathi's work experience and qualifications. He has over 4 years of experience in project management and managing IT projects for global clients. He is skilled in Agile methodologies like Scrum and managing relationships with stakeholders. He has expertise in technologies like PHP, Drupal, Magento, and WordPress.
The document discusses Project Cycle Management (PCM) and its importance for development projects. It outlines the evolution of PCM as an approach to improve development effectiveness. PCM provides a framework to ease communication, ensure efficient funding use, and increase measurability and organizational credibility. The key elements of PCM include phases like identification, formulation, implementation and evaluation. Tools like the logical framework matrix are used to design projects and monitor progress. While PCM provides structure, true success requires commitment from planners, implementers and beneficiaries.
The document provides a checklist for ensuring a project is properly initiated. It includes key steps such as obtaining formal authorization, defining the project vision and goals in business terms, establishing timelines and deliverables, identifying roles and responsibilities, and gaining sign-off from stakeholders. Completing the checklist helps confirm the project is aligned with business strategy, scope and objectives are clearly defined, and there is agreement that the project is ready to begin.
The document discusses project planning and management tools. It defines a project as having a definite start and end with clear objectives and scope. The key considerations for a project are cost, schedule, and performance. Project proposals are prepared using statements of work, schedules, and specifications. Planning tools include work breakdown structures, milestone schedules, Gantt charts, and network scheduling like critical path method. Contract types can be fixed-price or cost-based.
The document discusses the importance and role of a business analyst in IT projects. It states that a business analyst acts as a liaison between business stakeholders, development teams, and quality assurance teams. They help define project scope, elicit and document requirements, and manage expectations. The document also notes that having a business analyst can help the customer provide complete requirements, give the project manager oversight during implementation, and provide a technical liaison for the development team. Overall, using a business analyst can help ensure a project is finished on time and on budget and delivers what the business needs.
This report summarizes the results of Milestone x of a project. It provides an overview of the project and its goals, reviews the deliverables and successes of the milestone, discusses risks and issues, and evaluates the scope, budget and schedule. It concludes by obtaining acceptance to move forward and outlines plans for the next milestone.
The document discusses project management and reasons for project failure. It defines a project and distinguishes projects from operations. Some key points made are:
1. A project is a temporary organization with a definite beginning and end to produce a unique product or service.
2. Common reasons for project failure include a lack of clear goals, poor planning, inadequate resources, and lack of ownership.
3. Good project management involves defining requirements, planning, communication, quality management, and monitoring progress.
The project manager is responsible for the project outcome and meeting goals on time and on budget.

The Evolution of Agile Portfolio Management for Scaled Agile SuccessTasktop
With the right tools and mindset, scaling Agile throughout your IT organization can be a painless process. As the market evolves from post-it notes to whiteboards and beyond, the next frontier is finding the right tools that support Agile not only across teams, but also through various levels of hierarchy. The right tools will support not only team members in flowing work across their Kanban boards, but also will support the executive level as they look for at-a-glance updates on the progress and blockers of key initiatives.
From Dev to Ops, all teams within an IT organization should be working towards the same goal -- fast delivery of value to the customer -- and the benefits of Agile can help them get there. But this is not possible with a disconnected toolchain. Agile must impact the whole end-to-end workflow.
This webinar discusses how your organization can enable scaled Agile success by:
- Aligning team priorities around the common goals of an Agile transformation
- Increasing visibility of project status and compliance with cross tool traceability and reporting
- Creating and managing an integrated value stream that can scale to hundreds of projects in minutes

In this unit, we discuss the activities needed to occur once we terminate a project. The termination could be
because we successfully completed all of the work and handed the deliverables to the customer, or there
could be reasons why we need to terminate the project early.
Project Closing
All planned projects should have an endpoint. Having an absolute end is a part of the definition of what a
project is. Once all of the work activities have been completed and the deliverables have been accepted, then
it is time to close out the project. Many times, the project manager (PM) will not do the closing activities. The

organization may not require closing activities, or closing activities may not be considered a necessity. In
some cases, the PM is ready to move on to the next project. However, the importance of closing project
activities cannot be understated.
What are some of the activities needed when closing a project?
While the project deliverables should have been delivered and accepted, in some cases, final project reports
have not been created. These final reports may or may not be considered as being a part of the final
deliverables. For example, deliverable reports might include results of testing or quality reports.
Reports that are a part of project closing might include a report of project changes, a communication log, a
risk assessment matrix, or lessons learned. These types of reports would need to be organized and archived
with all of the project information for future reference.
A part of closing activities would include making final payments to vendors and suppliers. Also, any monies
owed to the organization would need to be collected. This is referred to as an accounting closeout. Team
members would need to be recognized and .

Easier Audiovisual Translation with SDL Trados StudioPaul Filkin
This document discusses audiovisual translation features in SDL Trados Studio. It summarizes that Trados Studio now supports common subtitle file formats out of the box and through plugins, allows live video preview and spotting features for subtitling work, and includes translation quality assurance checks based on the FAR methodology. The document also explains that Trados Studio aims to better support translators and adaptors working with audiovisual content, while still primarily functioning as a computer-assisted translation tool.
Ask the Experts: SDL Trados live Q+A webinar for freelance translatorsPaul Filkin
The document announces an upcoming SDL webinar for freelance translators that will provide information and answer questions about using SDL Trados software. The webinar agenda covers getting help, licensing, working with projects and files, sharing work, using the editor and translation memories, and upgrading resources.
Subtitling in most translation environments has long been a context free affair, limited to handling a subtitle file as a text only exercise. There has been the odd exception to this and Star Transit have offered the ability to see a video and play it synchronously with the text in their translation editor for some years, slowly extending their support to include SRT, VTT, webVTT and a TXT formats for the subtitle file (as far as I know). memoQ recently launched a video preview as well, I think with SRT support (I’m not sure here as it’s not easily obtained or installed). SDL only offerred support for SRT in terms of extracting the translatable text and giving you a static preview that showed you the timecodes and the text. Other tool vendors, and for other file formats, often rely on the text in a subtitle file being copied into Microsoft Word where the time-codes and other meta information can be hidden allowing the translator to focus on the translatable text… tools like Tortoise tagger for example can be helpful in preparing the files for translation. But none of them provide contextual previews of the video with embedded subtitles supporting positional and formatting information, and none of them provide any useful quality controls for subtitling other than line length which is based on the standard QA checks in most translation tools. This week SDL released some new plugins onto their appstore that will no doubt kick off some innovation in this area as the need for better audio visual localization tools increases.

Reports to do!!
○ Proof of work
– From the Linguist point of view: they have proof of the work that they entertained and
the time it took to achieve it; this might also help in renegotiating their contract in some
cases where the issues are part of the initial planning.
– From the LSP (or LP) point of view: they can explain clearly the issues along with
detailed reports as to reasons why deadlines are not met; these reports should also
form the basis for a structured review of what could improve in the next cycle/planning
– From the Client point of view: they have clear overview of the issues with view to the
details gathered at the translation level; this also builds on the trust aspect with the
LSP as they are working on a much more transparent level
○ What else??
These questions only scratch the surface of an industry conundrum around the management of PEMT for academia and commercial purposes.
Quite literally this means the translator, or reviewer, is mobile and able to work anywhere. So if you wish to be able to collect metrics and measure productivity the solution needs to be simple and in the Translation Environment. Hooking them up to third party systems, or tools they don’t use on a day to day basis is not going to provide the volume or consistency of data you need.
Can you value it and how do you value it?
How do we improve the processes around supporting post editors?
What kind of data should we be trying to collect and why?
As far as I’m aware I’d say this is zero!! So this is where the problem starts. If the most common tools don’t support out of the box this then how can we get the volume of data needed from Translators/Reviewers that will support the analysis and valuation for productivity today?
Quote from John Moran (http://www.welocalize.com/mt-translator-speed-interview-john-moran/ )
“Right now, the iOmegaT CAT tool and the utilities and analysis software that go with it require a good deal of technical ability to use. For that reason we currently only engage with one new client at a time. Our focus has been on well-known corporate or enterprise end-buyers of translation with complex integration requirements, such as with SDL TMS and SDL WorldServer. This has worked well so our next aim is to develop the system into a suite that is easier to use to widen the user-base to smaller LSPs and even translators, while listening to our small core of enterprise clients to improve the software for them too.”
Notes from Patrick
One of the main advantages of working with a tool like this is that it keeps a complete comparable copy of every single action applied that qualifies as an addition, deletion or adaption of any of the properties in the segments of the document that the linguist is working on.
By comparable, we mean that a record is created that encapsulates not only the latest version of the segment after the changes have been applied, but also a cloned copy of the segment prior to those changes; so that it provides a complete cascading type of report representing each adaption to the segments as they are applied.
Notes from Patrick
The latest release implements a new feature that manages the quality metrics, which allows you to import some of the more known standards such as TAUS DQF and SAE J2450. This adds a new dynamic to the plugin with enormous benefit to how the quality of the translations from a document are measured in a revision cycle. The Quality Assessment reports generated from this data are useful in providing an overview on the commonality of the linguists errors, where they occurred, in what context and who (or what TM, MT etc…) applied them; keeping in mind that the type of reports generated from these assessments are relative to the what you are evaluating; meaning, it might also be applicable in assessing the translations from an MT engine in a certain domain.
All of these are important characteristic as they provide the basis for calculating the production costs understanding not only what changed but also the time taken to make those changes.
Because the data that is maintained with the plugin is so robust, some very interesting type of reports can be generated from this type of data that we will be working on next…
Notes from Patrick
The document overview is a very comprehensive overview of all the work entertained on the document from the linguist for single or multiple edit sessions. It compiles all interactions applied by the linguist while working on the document and represents those changes in a structured/ readable format.
The cost of production is integrated with this report taking into consideration the association between the weight of the changes applied by the linguist and the language rates associated with the activity for that document or documents.
Notes from Patrick
Another very important aspect is the time taken and how the changes are applied by the linguist; for this purpose the tool also manages the production time and keystroke data.
The type of production time data that is managed with the plugin:
Opened and closed a document
Document active on the screen and being worked on by the linguist; useful when the linguist is working on multiple documents contemporarily
Entered and exited a segment
The date/time spent typing or adapting the content in the segment; in this case the date/time is associated with the individual keystrokes
The movement across the file
Notes from Patrick
Note: The decision to track the keystroke data is ultimately the decision of the user and ONLY tracks keystrokes from the Studio Editor window.
Notes from Patrick
Proof of work:
something that I have noticed quite a lot recently as we are constantly evolving in more competitive environments, is when things go drastically wrong in a project. It happens to the most prepared professionals (PM, Linguists alike).
Let’s examine a case where a linguist is required to use a specific MT engine, or TM or Terminology termbase as part of the contract and because of this -> the linguist spends twice as much time working on translating the content as required (due to common issues) and because of the deadline this also had an indirect degradation on the quality (simply because the linguist was forced to work in a certain way…) This is something that no one likes -> the unforeseen aspects of the project that turn your projects into a living nightmare for everyone involved. When deadlines are pushed to a certain degree, the involvement with your client is inevitable and understanding what went wrong in the process becomes paramount. Because this plugin provides you with unique insight to all interactions during the translation/revision life cycle, it can improve drastically your approach in explaining these scenarios.
From the Linguist point of view: they have proof of the work that they entertained and the time it took to achieve it; this might also help in renegotiating their contract in some cases where the issues are part of the initial planning.
From the LSP (or LP) point of view: they can explain clearly the issues along with detailed reports as to reasons why deadlines are not met; these reports should also form the basis for a structured review of what could improve in the next cycle/planning
From the Client point of view: they have clear overview of the issues with view to the details gathered at the translation level; this also builds on the trust aspect with the LSP as they are working on a much more transparent level
