Music Video
Institution – Universal
3 Minutes
Genre – Electronic Dance Music (EDM)
Artist Identity: The artist I am trying to represent is an artist that
is relatable. Their image is not one for popularity but to raise
awareness on problems that he faced as a child. This problem
being the constant pressure and expectations to be as successful
as his parents. Their name is Arthur Smith.
Role of the Artist: The Artist is going to be the main focus of this
music video. They will have a lot of screen time as they will be
the main character.
Concept: The concept of the music video is for the artist to be
down and not happy with the pressure and expectations of his
peers, parents and people around him. However, he is truly him
self when he gets his DJ set because that is what he wants to do.
Type of Music Video: Narrative, this is used to best explain the
concept of the music video.
Genre Conventions: I will use a narrative music video as it is
quite conventional for EDM music videos. I will do this so it is
clear and keeps the theme of EDM. The role of the artist is
conventional. This is because most of the time they are
presented as inferior and vulnerable but they end up doing
something they like or a positive outcome comes out of the
music video.
Locations such as warehouses, home, school and outdoors are
prevalent in narrative electronic dance music videos. These are
some of the locations I will use in my music video as it is
conventional.
This music video will speak to the audience by telling them to do
something that they like and want. And not to do something that
is put on to them by their peers, parents or society.
Effects/Techniques: One of the most common techniques I will
use is slow-motion. This will be prevalent throughout the music
video to give it a slow paced feel and easy to follow. Another
effect that I will use is the use of overlays and screening to
provide flashy yet subtle transition effects. This will be to keep
interest in the music video and to keep the audiences attention
Locations I will use include: The Windsor Boys school (Front
gates, Classroom); A suburban house (The exterior as an
establishing shot, some inside rooms such as the bedroom)
This video will appeal to the target audience as it relatable to the
target audience as they will have a lot of pressure to be
successful as their parents. This because many of their parents
will be businessmen, scientists and entrepreneurs.
Requirements:
Two Settings: School, Home
Social groups: Parents (Represented as pressuring and having
lots of expectations); Students/Children (Represented as wanting
to do their own thing)
Graphic Title: John Smith – Resurrection
Intertextuality: TBC
How will you make it memorable?: I plan to do this by having the
artist say “I know” repeatedly when someone says he should be
doing this or his grades should be here. Another way I plan to
make it memorable is by having the narrative easy to follow. An
example of this is ‘Marshmello – Alone’
Audio visual aspect on homepage: This is going to be a behind
the scene footage and an interview in one.
