Both landscape and portrait shots were included. Flash was not used to take advantage of the interesting lighting. A red background was chosen for the front cover photo shoot to match the color scheme. The second photo shoot provided better headroom and eliminated shadows compared to the first shoot.
How did you decide what area to do your exhibition on
Ben chose to focus his exhibition on landscape and macro photography based on photos he had previously taken in these categories. He got inspiration for landscape photos from National Geographic's "Picture of the Day" section, particularly the work of photographer Chester Boyes. Ben used a Canon 600D camera and Photoshop software to edit some photos. He learned from trial and error, such as choosing a clearer photo of a horse over one where parts were out of focus. The strengths of Ben's photos included variety between landscape and macro subjects and clear focus, while weaknesses included minor defects from photo editing and an inability to use different lenses. Task 4
- 1. Task 4 By Jordan Lyn
- 2. Picture Editing Here I edited the size of the photo, I had to put the image into Photoshop as it was too big in InDesign. I changed the size to an A4 size.
- 3. Picture Editing I knew that my image had to be the size of an A4 spread therefore I changed my width, height and resolution for the best quality picture. The width was 21cm, the height being 29.7 and the resolution was 300 pixels/inch. After I saved the edit as a JPEG and placed it into InDesign.
- 4. Picture Editing Again the size of this image was too big for its use, I went into Photoshop and changed the width, height and resolution to 13.5 x 8.33 with 300 resolution.
- 5. Picture Editing Now I was able to save it as a Jpeg and insert it into my InDesign document.
- 6. Picture Selection I chose to use this image because it had the right proportion of light set out in his face. I also used the background to my advantage, it was a light creamy colour which made his stand out. I used a mid-angle shot because I wanted to concentrate on the top half of his stature. His head is held high in the light and the shadows make the image look natural. I also focused the camera for a more in depth and clear image of him.
- 7. Picture Selection I chose this image of his because he is expressing his musical talents in this image. There is a lot of lighting which portrays his talent in the future. I did not need to edit the image because I felt that the image was perfect for my magazine. I chose to take it as a mid-shot because this allowed me to capture his body and some of the drum kit. I compromised with the equipment we had as the drum kit was half missing which is why I only included the base and cymbal.
- 8. Importing After taking my images on the DSLR I went home to import the images onto my computer using the memory card. I then E-mailed it to myself to have the access to it in college.
