1. The document discusses the production of a music video by the author and their group to entertain the audience. They chose to do a video for the song "Forgotten Notes" by Bryson Tiller, taking inspiration from his other music videos.
2. They created a production plan that discussed the song, locations, camera shots, and acting needed. Feedback indicated their cutting rate fit the song's mood well.
3. They also considered doing a dance video but decided on the Bryson Tiller song. Areas for improvement included time management, actor lip syncing, and using more camera movement/shots.
2. Ideas
Our intended purpose for this video was to entertain the audience and our
atmosphere was created through mesmerising shots and lip sinking. We
researched videos by Bryson Tiller and used conventions of his type of videos,
this included a prop – a cap, establishing shots and a variation of timing and
fade transitions. We also included saturation on a shot to display a flashback
showing where his ex and him were enjoying life. This song is about him
trying to his girlfriend back and we used conventions of a love/tragedy song;
this included a problem and things for the actors to reminisce on.
3. Production – Choices
We created a spider diagram where we discussed what song we would like to do and how
we should do it. We all agreed that the most mainstream ideas would be easy to produce as
we all have good knowledge how the video would look. We worked looked at the sort of
locations and camera shots we would take and considered the type of acting our actors
would need to display to achieve a successful music video.
I believe we were successful through the feedback given by my colleagues. One of them
mentioned that our cutting rate was good and fit the mood of the song which was our
intended purpose.
4. Other Ideas
We had came up with another other idea in case we did not want to use our
Bryson Tiller song. Our other ideas were to do a dance video using Hackman’s
“Forgotten Notes”, the idea involved the dancing technique ‘cutting shapes’.
Our plan for this was to lively locations such as east ham or oxford circus for a
happy and ecstatic atmosphere. This idea was inspired by Kieza’s, “Hideaway”
song where she made her way around a neighbourhood dancing with
different groups of people.
5. Successful Ideas
We planned on using establishing shots at the beginning of the video as this
is a convention of many music videos within the R&B genre. We also used
visual effects which we were inspired by from one of my case studies where I
looked at Rhianna’s Umbrella song and saw how she used different colours to
create different atmospheres and ideas. During the end of the song we
features a flashback and on that flashback clip we made it brighter to make it
clear to our audience that it was a flashback.
6. Areas For Improvement
We needed to get our time management in place as we had to go over the
time given for our filming.
We needed to carefully pick our actors as the lip syncing for our song was
off – this was also mentioned by one of my colleagues in our feedback.
We could’ve used a wider range of camera movement and shots to gain a
better effect for the viewers.
7. Areas For Development
Use more techniques
Involve more visual effects such as strobes, variation
of fades etc.
