Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The repeated exposure of a photographic plate or film to light, often producing ghost images

Multiple exposure is a photography technique of combining two or more separate exposures
into one.
This technique is involved with fine art photography as well as being involved with highly
advanced commercial photography. It is used in commercial architectural photography and high
end interior design.
History of Multiple Exposure. Since photography came about 200 years ago, artists and
photographers have tried to advance the images further to what is not seen my the ordinary
person.
Multiple exposure was created through experimenting with exposures.
Before the use of advanced technology , this technique was first created using a dark room.
The idea of a dark room being that no light at all can come in the way of a piece of art. Work
not being exposed will look very unusual to the normal piece of Art
4. Many photographers still spend the time to make the original multiple exposure copies as they believe it creates a
better outcome rather than editing images on Photoshop.
The normal process involves having two negatives and photographic paper. When looking at multiple exposures, the
technique involves not rewinding the last exposure taken.
This technique takes time and patience, whereas since the development of cameras and software such as Photoshop
the process is so much easier. However, It has taken some of the originality from the designs.
Multiple exposure is now a very popular method of Experimental photography and has started to feature in many
forms of media. Magazines and Newspapers do occasionally offer a strange look on an image as well being seen in
galleries across the world.
The new way to develop the two images is in Photoshop, this modern way is a lot quicker due to being able to see the
images as soon as they are imported.
This involves having the two images on separate layers and turning the opacity down on the image in front so the
other photograph is visible.
Using the Polygon tool to rotoscope the part of the image you do not want can be very useful. Also, duplicating a layer
or image can be a very good way to manipulate the exposure.
Being able to change the light on an image in Photoshop has become a very important part to Multiple exposure
Photography. This helps bring out two images but the light being artificial and placed in an area where it can be looked
at differently.
5. Redscale

lines makes the numbers stand out more.
Not only can you see Aisles in the sky but
a face is featured at the top left of the
image.
Making the clouds such a light shade of
green makes the image look very
particular. Also the merging of both
shapes, numbers, lines and a face makes
the person looking at it think.
The colours
on the zebra
match the
lines on the
piano which
makes this
piece very
interesting to
look at.
The colour adjustment tool and
the levels in particular is a great
way to make this image look
strange to look at.
6. 3D Photography
The viewing of objects as three-dimensional, the
technique of making or using stereoscopes and
stereoscopic slides.
Stereoscopy is the technique for creating or enhancing
the illusion of depth in an image by means of stereopsis
for binocular vision.
3D photography is made using Adobe Photoshop. This is
to process an image which can then later be viewed with
3D glasses.
It is created by using two layers in Photoshop. Two layers
include one cyan coloured image and one red image.
One of these has to be moved away from the other at
both the left and right hand side. For example, the Cyan
being underneath will be moved a couple of touches to
the right and then the red layer would have to be moved
a couple of touches to the left.
7. Normally, a 3D photograph is made from
two photographs taken from slightly
different positions.
What you will need and how to do it.
You will need to purchase 3D Glasses. (Approx Price £5.99)
This is because without the glasses you cannot view both the cyan and red colours
when in Photoshop.
The process- Firstly you need to open up Adobe Photoshop (If you do not have it you
can get a free trial for 3 months)
You then need to open up a document (International Paper), after this you need to
select a background.
This background layer should be coloured in red. After this, click on the layer, duplicate
it and then change to cyan (This procedure can be either colour first)
Open up an image in Photoshop (Can be done through the place button on the tool
bar) the image has to have something in front of it or the process wont work.
Now go into Levels (This can be found by pressing CTRL + L)
On the cyan one, select a white slider, and on the red one select a green one. Now in
the channels box change the white into a blue colour.
You then need to move the layers, move the cyan left of the red and the red right of
the cyan.
Once you are doing this procedure you need to place your glasses on. After you have
moved the object to how you want it, you should then crop it as you have moved the
layers.
It is a very complex technique but when it comes right it can create a very good effect.
This technique is often used in many films now.
Many people like the effect and is very popular because it looks as if you are there
with that person or subject you are looking at.
