Printing has been used since ancient Mesopotamian civilizations, allowing written materials to be produced in large quantities. Letterpress was the primary printing method for over 500 years using raised metal type. Lithography, invented in 1796, used images drawn on a metal plate transferred to paper using oil and water. Desktop publishing began in 1983, allowing journalists to perform page layout on personal computers rather than outsourcing work to printers.

2. HISTORY OF PRINTING
• Printing all the way back to early Mesopotamian civilization before 3000 BCE. And at the time there was
a use of duplication of images by means of stamps and round seals for rolling an impression into clay
tablets. They featured complex and beautiful images. Printing is consider one of the most important
invention in history. It’s allowed things like books, magazine, newspaper and other reading materials to
be produced in a magnificent amount of numbers. Printing also holds many tradition in different parts
of the world in terms of how it was used and has also had modifications over the years to meet the
needs of people in different eras.

3. LETTERPRESS
• Letterpress is relief printing process which ultimately utilized raised metal type and engravings to
imprint words and designs on a page. Letterpress originated in the 1400s and was the primary form of
printing and communication for more than 500 years. For centuries it was the primary method of
publishing books. But over time it evolved into an art form more than a standard printing practice.

4. LITHOGRAPHY
• Lithography traditionally used images drawn onto a metal plate which was then transferred on to blank
paper, the method usually required oil and water. It was invented in 1796 by German author and actor
Alois Senefelder as a cheap method of publishing theatrical works. As evolution occurred lithography
can be used to print text or artwork onto paper or other suitable material.

5. DESKTOP
• Desktop is the creation of documents using page layout skills on a personal computer. Desktop began in
1983 and made by James Bessen at a community newspaper in Philadelphia. It was the key for
journalist as it helped produce, input, edit and layout all their copy themselves rather than typing it up
