Introduction
NWA (abbreviationforNiggazwitattitude) wasanAmericanhiphopgroupcomingfromCalifornia
Comptonthat iswidelyconsideredtohave beenamongthe earliestandmostsignificant
popularisersof the gangstarapand westcoast hip hop subgenreswhile alsobeingcreditedbymany
as one of the seminal groupsinthe historyof hiphopmusic.Theywere active from1986 to 1991,
the rap group had beenthroughalot of legal issuesmainlybecause of the contentof theirlyricsthat
was viewedasdisrespectful womenandglorifiedgangviolence anddrugs.

The group was createdbyCompton-basedEazy-Ewhoalsoco-foundedRuthlessrecordswithJerry
Hellerwhichisarecord a label. The group resided of 4 memberobviouslyEazyE himself,Dj Yella,Dr
Dre,Ice Cube and MC Ren.There had been5th
membercalledArabianprince buthadleftdue to
beingsurplustothe group.EventhoughNWA we’re still inveryearlystagesof development
Ruthlessrecordsreleasetheirfirstsingle “PanicZone”in1987 withmacolarecords,whichwasthen
laterincludedonthe compilationalbumN.W.A andthe posse.NWA releasetheirdebutstudio
album,StraightOuttaCompton,in1988. Withitsfamousopeningsalvoof three tracks,the group
reflectedthe risingangerof the urbanyouth.The openingsong“StraightOuttaCompton”
introducedthe group,“Fuckthe police”protestedpolice brutalityandracial profiling,and“Gangsta
Gangsta” paintedaworldwide picture of the innercityyouth. Whilethe groupwaslatercredited
withpioneeringthe dwindlingsubgenre of gangstarap. NWA referredtheirmusictorealityrap,it
was theirreflectionof theirart.Dr Dre and DJ Yellawere the High-poweredProductions,they
composedbeatsforeachsong withDre makingoccasional rap appearances.Ice Cube andMC Ren
wrote mostof the group’slyrics,F**** tha police wasthe group’s mostinfamous songwhich
broughtthemintoconflictwithvariouslaw enforcementagencies. NWA’s“StraightOuttaCompton”
had eventuallywentdouble platinum.One monthafterthe album, Eazy-Ereleasedhissolodebut
Eazy-Duz-It.The albumwasdominatedbyEazy’spersona – MC Renwas the onlyguestrapper

Gray. The filmrevolvesaroundthe rise andfall of the Compton,CaliforniahiphopgroupN.W.A.The
film'stitle isplagiarisedfromthe title of N.W.A's1988 debutstudioalbum.StraightOuttaCompton
