Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Target audience research
1.
2. Short films clearly outline their target audience and this is often a niche. A small production company has
a small budget and has to be selective with a niche audience. They do not have the means to distribute or
market the film for a mainstream audience but they are often made into mainstream features
To find the target audience of short films I first looked up the demographics of who watches the most
short films.
From this I found that the main audience of short films is males aged up 29.
3. After further thought and research into why this is the main audience of short films, we have come to
the conclusion that the majority of people in that group are young film students looking for potential
ideas to help them in the industry as aspiring film makers or producers, or older professionals in the
film industry or film enthusiasts.
Demographics:
These employed people working in the industry would be placed between the demographic social
groups A to C1.
These industry professionals and investors may be looking at the short films to find potential in a
director, producer or writer to work for them for the particular company. The student sector of the
audience would be generally placed in the social group E because they are unemployed but most likely
to be from a background in the A to C1 categories. They would be viewing the films for inspiration for
their own work as an amateur film maker. Most of these short films would be viewed online so the
audience would be familiar with the use of internet therefore protruding the reasons behind the
audience being from a media background further.
4. Psychographics :
The audience for short films would is again completely different to that of the mainstream
films. These people could be described as;
SUCCEEDERS: People, who like to think they are in control, are powerful, successful and
ambitious This group of people is mainly driven by their income wanting to get high up in the
industry. If they have already made it successfully into a powerful position then they would be
the audience that could decide to invest in a new director etc. from viewing a short film and
bring more money into their company.
ASPIRERS: People who strive for a bigger and better lifestyle These could be the young people
who may have just finished a degree at university and are in search for a job wanting to break
it into the film industry. With the drive from their motivation of a better life they would do a lot
of research into the industry themselves, in turn viewing the short films to get a better
understanding. This could possibly be to get inspiration for their own amateur film making and
get recognised.
INDIVIDUALISTS: People who are loners, individualists, independent thinkers who want to be
separate from the crowd This sector of the audience could include the people who like to
express their opinions and views through film. They are the opposite to the mainstreamers
who may be the audience for big budget full length blockbuster films.
5. When choosing the genre of our short film I looked at what most attracts people to a
short film.
After finding out that the main thing that attracted people to short films was the story &
plot, we decided to go for a short film that has a moral.
6. After deciding we wanted to create a film with a strong storyline and a moral message to
it, it was difficult to try and fit this type of film into a genre. Because of the concept of
our idea for the short film it seemed to be somewhere in between the genres Drama and
Social Realism.
As Social realism isn’t a very popular genre there wasn’t any statistics on their target
audience however I did find some statistics on the target audience of the Drama genre:
7.
8. Gender Age
From both sets of statistics I
have found on target
audience from short films and
for the Drama genre, Men
have been the gender that
have come up as the most
popular each time, so this will
be who we mainly focus on
when creating our short film.
From the different sets of
statistics I have found on the
target audience of short films
and the Drama genre, the ages
have differed each time and
because we could find
statistics for social realism we
are going to try and appeal to
Ethnicity all ages.
We will mostly be focusing on
Black and White ethnicities in our
target audience because they are
the top two in the drama statistics,
however it wasn’t by much and
because there aren't any statistics
of social realism we will be trying
to target all ethnicities.
