 The genre of music we felt our song fits into is indie. As a
result of this we have decided that the target audience we
will be researching is the 16-30 gap. We have decided that
this would be a suitable target audience, because teenagers
are more likely to listen to indie rock and roll. To help with our
research we have looked at the target audiences for three of
the most popular music channels.
 Kerrang! is a popular music channel that features Indie music as
well as other genres such as punk, heavy metal, pop punk etc.
 When I started to research into Kerrang!'s target audience I
found this quote:
 “This piece of research found those aged 15-44. In order to
ensure robust samples by sub group, Continental Research
recommended a sample structure where the sample was split
evenly by age (33.3% of all respondents in each of the 3 age
groups, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44).”
 I then did some further research and I found why Kerrang! Has
such a diverse target audience. They have such a diverse target
audience because there is something for everyone to watch on
Kerrang. For example they show music videos from bands such
as Aerosmith, bon jovi, def leopard and AC/DC which caters to
the 35-44 gap and possible the 25-34 gap.
 MTV Rocks more commonly known as MTV Two is another very
popular music channel that specifically plays videos form the
genres indie and rock. So this would be the perfect channel for
my music video as it fits into both these genres.
 When researching into MTV Two I found this quote:
 The music channel with attitude for indie, rock and alternative
music enthusiasts. An interactive music channel playing diverse
and cutting edge music, MTV Two is where the viewer defines
the music programming – create your own hour of videos via
the web. With a leftfield take on the world, it really is a
channel created by and for individuals.
 Target Audience: 16-24 male”
 This would be the perfect music channel for my music channel
as there target audience is very similar to our target audience.
 After researching into both of these music channels
target audiences I found that there is a correlation
between the ages of 16-30 year olds. Which means
that our music video will be seen by our target
audience on each of these channels as they both a
viewers aged 16-30 year olds.

Target audience

  • 2.  The genre of music we felt our song fits into is indie. As a result of this we have decided that the target audience we will be researching is the 16-30 gap. We have decided that this would be a suitable target audience, because teenagers are more likely to listen to indie rock and roll. To help with our research we have looked at the target audiences for three of the most popular music channels.
  • 3.  Kerrang! is a popular music channel that features Indie music as well as other genres such as punk, heavy metal, pop punk etc.  When I started to research into Kerrang!'s target audience I found this quote:  “This piece of research found those aged 15-44. In order to ensure robust samples by sub group, Continental Research recommended a sample structure where the sample was split evenly by age (33.3% of all respondents in each of the 3 age groups, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44).”  I then did some further research and I found why Kerrang! Has such a diverse target audience. They have such a diverse target audience because there is something for everyone to watch on Kerrang. For example they show music videos from bands such as Aerosmith, bon jovi, def leopard and AC/DC which caters to the 35-44 gap and possible the 25-34 gap.
  • 4.  MTV Rocks more commonly known as MTV Two is another very popular music channel that specifically plays videos form the genres indie and rock. So this would be the perfect channel for my music video as it fits into both these genres.  When researching into MTV Two I found this quote:  The music channel with attitude for indie, rock and alternative music enthusiasts. An interactive music channel playing diverse and cutting edge music, MTV Two is where the viewer defines the music programming – create your own hour of videos via the web. With a leftfield take on the world, it really is a channel created by and for individuals.  Target Audience: 16-24 male”  This would be the perfect music channel for my music channel as there target audience is very similar to our target audience.
  • 5.  After researching into both of these music channels target audiences I found that there is a correlation between the ages of 16-30 year olds. Which means that our music video will be seen by our target audience on each of these channels as they both a viewers aged 16-30 year olds.
