2. Mass or Niche Audience
My film will be targeted to mass audience this is because
romance is not targeted towards a specific audience and
a huge range of people will watch it. I would generalize
my romance film to a mass audience as the storyline can
be interpreted and can go in many different sub genres.
Unlike a niche audience where the film is only targeted
towards a specific group of people. The mass market is
mainly made up of films which are made from big budget
and a lot of people are expected to watch the film.
3. Gender
I would like my film to target both genders since it
broadens the amount of people who would be expected to
like the film. However it is more likely to be a female who
would watch a romance film as gender representation
leads the stereotype that females look for love and are
more romantic then males. The romance genre however
can be watched by both genres and it would be hard to
just target only one gender with the film.
4. Age
The age range that we would target would be mainly
teenagers and early 20’s this is because it would be the
sort of movie that these people would watch being a
romance movie. These people tend to like romance films
as this is the average age to fall in love and to get
married, this means it would appeal to them more. It is not
vital for the audience to be of this age however I believe
the conventions of a romance would be appreciated more
by this age range.
5. Social Status
I will target mainly the middle and lower class since it is a
film that these people would normally watch. The
characters in my film are of middle class therefore the film
will be more relatable and engaging to those of the same
class. My plot will be direct and non-complicated and
therefore it should appeal to the upper class as well, this
also means that the storyline should also be generalised
in order for it to appeal to all forms of society. But the
majority of the film will be targeted at middle and lower
class.
6. Location
I intend to locate my production in places where my
chosen audience can relate to for example I will have one
scene at train station not only can most people relate to a
location like this but it also complies with the codes and
conventions of romance as it is a place where you are
more likely to meet someone. The location is important as
it establishes the scene and an overall theme to the film. I
will also use 2 different bedrooms this will also create a
sense of familiarity and stereotype to the film.
