Question 5- How did you attract/address your audience
The audience:
For the horror genre the mainstream audience are teens to young
adults. This is common because this is the age for people who want to
see a film that will fuel an audience with adrenaline and give a
differentiation to the norm. The avatar to the left represents a typical
teenage boy who would be the typical watching audience. This is
typical because it is not common for a much older
audience would want to watch this type of film because
of their age. The basis that the younger audience go to
see this film is due to jump scares which will give the
audience a rush but also the overall eerie atmosphere
that puts an audience on the edge of their seat.
Many people in the younger audience spend much of
their time watching films because this age group of 11-20 have the most
interaction with the media, in particular social media and film/TV industry.
The most common type of genre people of this age consume is action, thriller
and of course horror. This can be different for the girls though because they
can interact with other genre’s because most girls with the exception of
some do not like horror films no matter what age they are. The genre they
are most interested in is comedy but particularly rom-com. This is because of
this type of age group being brought up around social media and girls in
particular girls fantasizing with that genre. So its boys in particular that only interact with
horror.
Interacting withthe audience:
I interacted with the audience by using the typical horror conventions to
which then I built up to create the overall eerie atmosphere I was
looking for. The typical one is of course the set which creates the
atmosphere. The location I used helped interact with the audience as it
highlighted where the horror would take place.
The location shown on the right clearly displays the fact that this is an
18th century building and this is the common place the horror genre
bases its films.
Camera angles also aided this because it showed to the audience that in
fact these characters are vulnerable but also as if the camera is the spirit
that is watching them. The audio aids this because it gives the audience a sense of what the
environment is like and how the characters interact with it. The acting itself also helped with
audience interaction because this showed how idiotic they truly are for going into the house
despite how obviously eerie it is and how horror is even highlighted to the characters as
soon as they enter the building. I found this with my audience feedback when people

actually went to watch my film, camera angles were the main thing that helped interact
with the audience and built tension for them. Andy, a member of the audience who
watched my film among other thought audio was particularly beneficial to the genre as he
stated “the sound was very good to fit in with the films mood and tempo”. The location was
also stated with Dan liking “the story and the location of the film”.
