ď‚ž   For the learning preference quiz that we took in the beginning of the
    semester, I received the scores: Active- 3, Sensing-11, Visual-5, and
    Sequential-7. I think my results are pretty true to meaning because I do
    prefer sequential learning to global learning. From my past learning
    experiences, I do like to learn things sequentially to understand better
    rather then globally learning it as a whole because I can get mixed up
    really easily. By the end of the semester now, I think the scores that I
    received are still pretty true. From looking at my learning experiences this
    past semester, it does seem like I have a well balance of being an
    active and reflective learner, because I like to do something actively to
    remember what I leaned and then reflect on what I learned. I think
    learning preferences are nice to know about yourself because then you
    find something else about yourself that you never knew. I find it really
    interesting to learn about people’s different learning styles, because
    there are so many. I think it also relates to personality too. Learning my
    personal preferences did somewhat help me his semester because my
    scores seemed pretty true I used that specific type of learning to help
    with my studies, and so far I am doing well in my classes this semester.

ď‚ž   In the beginning of this class I chose to be the learning warrior pathway.
    I chose this because I wanted to use what I learn and incorporate it into
    my other classes. The social technology quest helped me because I was
    able to use the some of the skills in the pathways to help me with my
    classes this semester. At the beginning I don’t think I followed one
    pathway, because I tried out all the others, rather then just sticking with
    the warrior path. I am glad I got to try different pathways because I later
    found that the learning guide was a good way for me to learn. I liked
    this pathway because I found that I like learning with others. During one
    of my hardest classes this semester, I studied with a group of my friends
    that are also in the same class. We helped each other with questions
    and we gave each other really helpful tips. I even gave them some of
    the information we learned in this class. Overall, I am glad that I
    changed my pathway because if I were to be a personal learner
    (warrior pathway) this semester, I don’t think I would be doing so well in
    some of my classes. Although I think sometimes, for example in my past
    semesters at San Francisco State University, I’ve been a personal learner
    and it’s helped me succeed in classes. I these two different pathways
    have helped me with my studies.

ď‚ž   My favorite activities in the mobile section would have to be quest number three, iPods
    and MP3’s. I’ve had my iPhone now for almost three years now. I use my phone for
    almost everything, from simple phone calls to emailing to looking up directions and all
    the way to looking at lecture slideshows. Having the iPhone for so many years now, I
    think it is very handy. I’ve always looked up different applications for games and utility
    items such as flashlights, recipes, music look-ups, and much more. But for some reason I
    never thought of educational applications. I heard of applications from animal planet
    and science applications but I’ve never thought of specifically looking up for topics until
    this class. The lecture podcast and slideshows for this quest gave me a broader
    understanding of the use of mobile technology. Although it wasn’t an activity it was a
    really good and helpful lecture to help me understand. The activity that helped me get
    a deeper understanding would have to be the multiplication flashcard level two
    activity. This evaluation made me start thinking about searching for different types of
    flashcard applications; for example, I searched for French and physiology. Found a few
    different free applications that were very helpful. I even found an application to make
    my own flashcards and it was also free! After finding these applications I also started
    using my “voice memo” application to record lectures. As for working as a group for I
    would probably say I mostly use texting to talk to classmates. There is also a free
    application for texting as well! There are so many things that you can do on a mobile
    phone, especially an iPhone.

   A mobile technology that I got to explore was my roommate’s
    iPad (ipad and tablets quest) . I thought it was okay, it was just
    basically my iphone but just bigger. I downloaded all the
    applications that I downloaded on my phone and tried it on
    there. It was nice because it was so light and the screen was so
    big. I thought it accommodated well for my learning preference
    (visual). The flashcard applications helped me as a visual learner
    because the diagrams and words were bigger on the screen
    and it was clearer compared to my iphone. But I can still see it
    everything on my phone it was just better projected on the ipad.
    It helps me to read the words on my flashcards over and over
    again, and that was what I did with her ipad for about an hour. I
    made flashcards with a application called flashcard plus for a
    quiz coming up. It helped a lot by looking at the sentences over
    and over again because my grade turned out better than last
    weeks quiz. Overall, the ipad really helped but my iphone could
    have done the same too because I have the applications on
    there too. I have yet to try a tablet, maybe next semester.

ď‚ž   Another mobile technology would be the microblogs. This quest
    was interesting because I would have never known that twitter
    has educational purposes. I really enjoyed the slideshow
    because it gave me a really good explanation of what a
    microblog is. I would have never known that even instagram is a
    microblog. This quest was fun to learn because these are most of
    the applications that I have on my iphone, twitter and
    instagram. Twitter especially brought out my active side of my
    learning preferences because I really like to discuss concepts. I
    love hearing other people’s opinions and ideas. Once I found
    out that twitter has its academic side I went and searched some
    topics for my science classes, and I found them pretty interesting
    because there are so many opinions and thoughts. I also looked
    up some politics because it can be so debatable; it was so
    interesting to hear other people’s sides and reasoning. But a few
    of my classmates would post questions about homework
    questions and we would discuss it and help each other out
    which I found really helpful.

ď‚ž   My favorite mobile technology thus far would have to be the
    iphone that I also use as my ipod (ipod and mp3 quest). It has
    helped me so much. From getting lost to making phone calls, to
    helping me study. It is amazing how technology has gotten so
    far, and how it is advancing everyday, but we do have to be
    careful with it. This quest was really nice to know because in the
    forums I read a lot of great applications to help with my studies.
    Other students also gave me back really good feedback. As I
    was reading some questions that others had and replies that
    others received, it was nice to download some of the
    applications that they mentioned. Some were really helpful while
    some were not so much. Once again this showed me my visual
    preference in learning because actually working in the blanks
    and looking at pictures on my phone helped me see and
    comprehend. Especially when I can zoom in on my iphone,
    which made everything so much clearer.

ď‚ž   I found twitter and instagram really interesting and
    surprising because I honestly never knew that twitter can
    be used educationally. For a while I would only think of it
    as a social site where people just write that is on their
    mind. I still have not seen any educational purposes in
    instagram because what I mostly see with my friend’s
    posts are pictures of food or of them. But I am sure others
    may use it as an academic uses because people can
    comment and discuss. But definitely, twitter has helped
    and improved my learning preferences by giving me more
    options therefore it would be nice to continue using it
    sometimes to discuss and link others into the topics. But
    sometimes I do get sidetracked and start using it socially
    with friends, which I am working on to improve.

ď‚ž   The mobile technology that worked best for
    me would have to be my iphone. I cannot
    stress how much it has helped me
    throughout my years here at San Francisco
    State University. It was great to learn about
    all the different options and applications
    that I can use with my phone. So far I am
    always able to use my visual preference to
    learn using all the games and flashcard
    applications because it truly helps me study
    material covered in class. There have been
    some really bad applications but there are
    also really great ones as well. Eleanor Lau
ď‚ž   This was a great class to take because there are so many
    different ways to learn. Everyone has their own
    preferences as to how they learn but I think the quiz we
    took earlier in the semester really summed up my learning
    preferences really well. I will definitely be looking at twitter
    more and get my time balanced from using is
    academically and socially. As a visual and active learner,
    my iphone applications helps me with my visuals while as
    an active learner, twitter that is also on my phone helps
    me actively to discuss. These are great new ways to learn
    as well, just like how Facebook, a social network site is
    improving its educational purposes. Currently I work retail,
    but in the future I would love to become a registered
    nurse, therefore learning about my learning skills can help
    me understand others as well so that I can accommodate
    them.

ď‚ž   I will definitely keep using my iphone applications.
    Sometimes I find even better ones so I delete my old ones,
    but there are so many new applications everyday. I will be
    using my flashcard plus application for many of my
    classes. I love that I can just take it anywhere and look at
    different cards rather then wasting paper and writing it
    and then losing a piece or so. Applications that I
    downloaded were mainly science classes such as body
    parts and such. I guess when I become a registered nurse
    a few years from now I can use these applications, but by
    then I should know most things. I have a few games on my
    iphone that has nothing to do with academics but its still
    fun like “draw something”, its good to take breaks from
    studying too. I don’t think I need to avoid any applications
    because I have not had a bad experience yet.

Synthesis project about mobile leaning eleanor

  • 2. ď‚ž For the learning preference quiz that we took in the beginning of the semester, I received the scores: Active- 3, Sensing-11, Visual-5, and Sequential-7. I think my results are pretty true to meaning because I do prefer sequential learning to global learning. From my past learning experiences, I do like to learn things sequentially to understand better rather then globally learning it as a whole because I can get mixed up really easily. By the end of the semester now, I think the scores that I received are still pretty true. From looking at my learning experiences this past semester, it does seem like I have a well balance of being an active and reflective learner, because I like to do something actively to remember what I leaned and then reflect on what I learned. I think learning preferences are nice to know about yourself because then you find something else about yourself that you never knew. I find it really interesting to learn about people’s different learning styles, because there are so many. I think it also relates to personality too. Learning my personal preferences did somewhat help me his semester because my scores seemed pretty true I used that specific type of learning to help with my studies, and so far I am doing well in my classes this semester.   • 3. ď‚ž In the beginning of this class I chose to be the learning warrior pathway. I chose this because I wanted to use what I learn and incorporate it into my other classes. The social technology quest helped me because I was able to use the some of the skills in the pathways to help me with my classes this semester. At the beginning I don’t think I followed one pathway, because I tried out all the others, rather then just sticking with the warrior path. I am glad I got to try different pathways because I later found that the learning guide was a good way for me to learn. I liked this pathway because I found that I like learning with others. During one of my hardest classes this semester, I studied with a group of my friends that are also in the same class. We helped each other with questions and we gave each other really helpful tips. I even gave them some of the information we learned in this class. Overall, I am glad that I changed my pathway because if I were to be a personal learner (warrior pathway) this semester, I don’t think I would be doing so well in some of my classes. Although I think sometimes, for example in my past semesters at San Francisco State University, I’ve been a personal learner and it’s helped me succeed in classes.   • 4. ď‚ž My favorite activities in the mobile section would have to be quest number three, iPods and MP3’s. I’ve had my iPhone now for almost three years now. I use my phone for almost everything, from simple phone calls to emailing to looking up directions and all the way to looking at lecture slideshows. Having the iPhone for so many years now, I think it is very handy. I’ve always looked up different applications for games and utility items such as flashlights, recipes, music look-ups, and much more. But for some reason I never thought of educational applications. I heard of applications from animal planet and science applications but I’ve never thought of specifically looking up for topics until this class. The lecture podcast and slideshows for this quest gave me a broader understanding of the use of mobile technology. Although it wasn’t an activity it was a really good and helpful lecture to help me understand. The activity that helped me get a deeper understanding would have to be the multiplication flashcard level two activity. This evaluation made me start thinking about searching for different types of flashcard applications; for example, I searched for French and physiology. Found a few different free applications that were very helpful. I even found an application to make my own flashcards and it was also free! After finding these applications I also started using my “voice memo” application to record lectures. As for working as a group for I would probably say I mostly use texting to talk to classmates. There is also a free application for texting as well! There are so many things that you can do on a mobile phone, especially an iPhone. Eleanor Lau
  • 5. ď‚ž A mobile technology that I got to explore was my roommate’s iPad (ipad and tablets quest) . I thought it was okay, it was just basically my iphone but just bigger. I downloaded all the applications that I downloaded on my phone and tried it on there. It was nice because it was so light and the screen was so big. I thought it accommodated well for my learning preference (visual). The flashcard applications helped me as a visual learner because the diagrams and words were bigger on the screen and it was clearer compared to my iphone. But I can still see it everything on my phone it was just better projected on the ipad. It helps me to read the words on my flashcards over and over again, and that was what I did with her ipad for about an hour. I made flashcards with a application called flashcard plus for a quiz coming up. It helped a lot by looking at the sentences over and over again because my grade turned out better than last weeks quiz. Overall, the ipad really helped but my iphone could have done the same too because I have the applications on there too. I have yet to try a tablet, maybe next semester. Eleanor Lau
  • 6. ď‚ž Another mobile technology would be the microblogs. This quest was interesting because I would have never known that twitter has educational purposes. I really enjoyed the slideshow because it gave me a really good explanation of what a microblog is. I would have never known that even instagram is a microblog. This quest was fun to learn because these are most of the applications that I have on my iphone, twitter and instagram. Twitter especially brought out my active side of my learning preferences because I really like to discuss concepts. I love hearing other people’s opinions and ideas. Once I found out that twitter has its academic side I went and searched some topics for my science classes, and I found them pretty interesting because there are so many opinions and thoughts. I also looked up some politics because it can be so debatable; it was so interesting to hear other people’s sides and reasoning. But a few of my classmates would post questions about homework questions and we would discuss it and help each other out which I found really helpful. Eleanor Lau
  • 7. ď‚ž My favorite mobile technology thus far would have to be the iphone that I also use as my ipod (ipod and mp3 quest). It has helped me so much. From getting lost to making phone calls, to helping me study. It is amazing how technology has gotten so far, and how it is advancing everyday, but we do have to be careful with it. This quest was really nice to know because in the forums I read a lot of great applications to help with my studies. Other students also gave me back really good feedback. As I was reading some questions that others had and replies that others received, it was nice to download some of the applications that they mentioned. Some were really helpful while some were not so much. Once again this showed me my visual preference in learning because actually working in the blanks and looking at pictures on my phone helped me see and comprehend. Especially when I can zoom in on my iphone, which made everything so much clearer. Eleanor Lau
  • 8. ď‚ž I found twitter and instagram really interesting and surprising because I honestly never knew that twitter can be used educationally. For a while I would only think of it as a social site where people just write that is on their mind. I still have not seen any educational purposes in instagram because what I mostly see with my friend’s posts are pictures of food or of them. But I am sure others may use it as an academic uses because people can comment and discuss. But definitely, twitter has helped and improved my learning preferences by giving me more options therefore it would be nice to continue using it sometimes to discuss and link others into the topics. But sometimes I do get sidetracked and start using it socially with friends, which I am working on to improve. Eleanor Lau
  • 9. ď‚ž The mobile technology that worked best for me would have to be my iphone. I cannot stress how much it has helped me throughout my years here at San Francisco State University. It was great to learn about all the different options and applications that I can use with my phone. So far I am always able to use my visual preference to learn using all the games and flashcard applications because it truly helps me study material covered in class. There have been some really bad applications but there are also really great ones as well. Eleanor Lau
  • 10. ď‚ž This was a great class to take because there are so many different ways to learn. Everyone has their own preferences as to how they learn but I think the quiz we took earlier in the semester really summed up my learning preferences really well. I will definitely be looking at twitter more and get my time balanced from using is academically and socially. As a visual and active learner, my iphone applications helps me with my visuals while as an active learner, twitter that is also on my phone helps me actively to discuss. These are great new ways to learn as well, just like how Facebook, a social network site is improving its educational purposes. Currently I work retail, but in the future I would love to become a registered nurse, therefore learning about my learning skills can help me understand others as well so that I can accommodate them.   • 11. ď‚ž I will definitely keep using my iphone applications. Sometimes I find even better ones so I delete my old ones, but there are so many new applications everyday. I will be using my flashcard plus application for many of my classes. I love that I can just take it anywhere and look at different cards rather then wasting paper and writing it and then losing a piece or so. Applications that I downloaded were mainly science classes such as body parts and such. I guess when I become a registered nurse a few years from now I can use these applications, but by then I should know most things. I have a few games on my iphone that has nothing to do with academics but its still fun like “draw something”, its good to take breaks from studying too. I don’t think I need to avoid any applications because I have not had a bad experience yet. Eleanor Lau
