MicroType software entered the keyboarding
classroom when personal computers replaced typewriters.


MicroType
› As technology

evolved, and
typewriters were
replaced by personal
computers software
was used for
instruction.



Edutyping.com
› The availability of

internet access is
causing software based
instruction to become
obsolete. Web based
instruction is becoming
more popular.


Software based
instruction.
› Did not allow for as

much teacher and
student
accommodations as
they thought it would.
› Networking issues with
some school servers.
› Students still had to
do assignments at
school.



Online based
instruction.
Student based
learning instead of
teacher based.
Web based instruction did not appear “out of nowhere”, so
I would not consider them to be a disruptive technology.
However, it is replacing software installed programs so some
may consider it disruptive.


Software Based
› It has not been

common to see
movies or read
novels/short stories
featuring personal
computer usage with
software programs
installed on it.



Online Based
› Online learning is

becoming more realty in
secondary education.
Therefore it should be
introduced into the
lower grades.
Since the personal computer replaced typewriters
software keyboarding programs emerged. However,
with the availability of the internet in all schools and a
some homes of students. Online learning is pushing
out software that is installed on individual computers.
Districts can now purchase an online program that
doesn't require techs to install software and gives
students assess from home or another place besides
the classroom.
While MicroType and Edutpe do not
have the type of relationship that is
typically associated with Red
Queens, I think that textbook
companies that produce software
are now having to step it up a notch
and provide web based software.
