 NEED FOR THE STUDY:
 Adequate bonding of acrylic resin teeth to
denture base is necessary as it increases
the strength and durability of the denture
since the teeth become an integral part of
the prosthesis
 In most instances the bonding seems to be
satisfactory but still failures do occur

 The most common type of denture failure
occurs between an acrylic resin teeth and
the denture base. which may be attributed
to a lesser ridge lap surface area available
for bonding ,or the direction of stresses
encountered during function
 Many methods have been experimented to
increase the bond strength between teeth
and denture like mechanical bonding or
chemical bonding

 Gilhereme saavedra etal, studied with
Use of a methyl methacrylate –based
adhesive on the denture tooth base
seems to facilitate increased bond
strength of the acrylic resin tooth to the
denture base. Water storage and
thermo cycling reduced the bond
strength of acrylic resin teeth to denture
base resin when compared with dry
testing conditions.

 J.L.CUNNINGHAM and I.C. BENINGTON
studied on the Physical modification and
alginate mould seal contamination of
the tooth surface had no significant
effect on the bond strength.wax
contamination of the tooth surface had
highly detrimental effect on the bond.

 J.L.CUNNINGHAM and I.C. BENINGTON
concluded that A significantly stronger
bond was obtained when the resin was
packed late in the dough stage, and a
superior bond, in all cases, when high
impact resin was used.

 J.L.CUNNINGHAM , inferred that The shear
bond strength of denture teeth bonded to
denture base material can be considerably
enhanced by the application of a suitable
bonding agent. it can be postulated that
the bonding agent increases the Wettability
of the tooth surface and may have a
solvent effect, which favours a more
effective diffusion of the monomers of the
denture base polymer into the tooth.

 K.H.CHUNG, C.Y.CHUNG proved that
Acrylic tooth surface pre-processed
surface treatment with grinding plus
sand blasting and processed with a
heat-polymerized denture base
provided the greatest bond strength
between acrylic tooth and denture
base.

 The purpose of the study is to check the
bonding strength of the acrylic teeth to the
denture base after various surface
condition methods.
 Which tooth will be having maximum
strength the one treated with “monomer”
or the one in which is surface treated with
“silane” coupling agent.

 7.1 SOURCE OF DATA:
 The proposed study is an in-vitro study and
all the materials will be collected from the
market through commercial channels.
 96 artificial acrylic posterior teeth (1st pre-
molars and 1st molars of mandibular left side)
are planed on the ridge lap area up to the
cervical region, using a lathe and polished with
silicon carbide discs. These specimens are
divided into 3 groups of 16 specimens each.

 7.2 METHOD OF COLLECTION OF DATA:
 The acrylic teeth are fixed in gypsum blocks
with planed ridge lap surfaces exposed. Poly
vinyl chloride rings with height 18mm are fixed
in the gypsum and filled with molten wax. After
de-waxing the planed surfaces are
conditioned using materials mentioned above
and then acrylised with heat cure acrylic resin.
After thermo cycling, they are checked for
shear bond strength using an Instron Universal
Testing Machine
