 Failure of the bond between acrylic resin teeth
to acrylic denture base is very common many
attempts have been made to im prove this
bond .

 To evaluate the shear bond strength between
acrylic resin teeth to denture base, after
surface treatment with Monomer, silane
coupling agent as surface conditioning
materials.

 To compare and evaluate the surface
conditioning agents, monomer and silane
coupling agent with a control group and
determine either monomer or silane coupling
agent conditioning increases the bond
strength on applying shear loads.

 A plastic poly vinyl chloride (p.v.c) rings of 10
cm height and 0.5 inch width were cut from a
long pipe. The 10cm p.v.c pipes were adhered
to a steel base using sticky wax and sheets of
modelling wax was melted and poured till the
brim of the p.v.c. pipes, care was taken to fill
up all defective areas formed due to shrinking
of wax.

 Premadent crosslinked acrylic molar and
premolar teeth were taken and they were
ground till the ridge lap area with a tungsten
carbide bur and they were polished with a
buff to obtain smooth surface.

 The prepared teeth were fixed in the p.v.c
rings which were filled with wax and the teeth
were sealed with a hot wax spatula
 The wax-tooth assemblies were positioned in
the flask with the teeth turned up dental
plaster was poured up to the border of the
p.v.c rings

 . The plaster was allowed to set and then a
layer of cold mould seal was applied and left
to dry.
 The remaining part of the flask was filled with
a mixture of dental plaster and stone and the
lid was closed and the flask was pressed
( 1,250 kg f ) for 30mins.

 After the plaster had set , the flask was placed
in boiling water for 15mins for dewaxing. Next
the wax was eliminated by running hot water ,
complete elimination of wax was important
from the p.v.c rings and the teeth ridge lap
area as wax causes a detrimental effect in
bonding.

 The 2 sets of 96 teeth were dived into 3 groups
based on the method of surface conditioning
 SM1 (control) : no surface conditioning
 SM2 (monomer) : Two coats of heat cured
monomer is applied over the ridge lap area and
they were left to evaporate for 5 mins.
 SM3 (silane) : Two coats of silane coupling
agent was applied over the ridge lap area and
they were left to evaporate for 5 mins.

 Curing Procedure: A short curing cycle was
employed to cure the specimens

 The prepared specimens were loaded on to
UTM- INSTRON UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHIN.
 A point force was applied by a stainless steel
pin tip of 1mm in diameter, until fracture
occurred.

 A One-way- Analyses of variance (ANOVA) was
used to find the significance of breaking
strengths between different samples which
were coated with different surface
conditioning materials. Student ‘t’ test was
used to find the significance of breaking
strengths between sample types

 Rehabilitating an edentulous patient with a
successful denture is a challenging task. The most
common type of failure of acrylic denture is
debonding of acrylic teeth from denture.
 This can be overcome by improving the adhesion
between the acrylic teeth and denture base
 Our studies have proved that surface treatment
of acrylic teeth with conditioning materials like
monomer and silane coupling agent will improve
the bond to a great extent.

 The present study evaluated the bond strength of
acrylic teeth to the acrylic denture base using
different surface conditioning materials like
monomer and silane coupling agents
 There was a significant improvement in the bond
strength with surface conditioners
 The order of shear bond strength of samples is
control < monomer< silane coupling agent
