Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
What is Call via Work?
…referred to as CvW from here on out.
Remote Call Control (RCC) Replacement
…without all of the Control part 
or
Enterprise Voice “Light”
…transitionary Scenario/Option for telephony
Uses the Skype for Business conference server to initiate two calls.
1. First call to the users handset
2. Second call to the remote party
3. Calls are joined together with SfB acting as a bridge
6
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
How does Call via Work, work?
1. User initiates an outbound call using SfB Client
2. SfB Server sends a SIP INVITE to the PBX to
initiate a call to the desk phone.
3. The PBX rings the desk phone
4. Desk phone answered, SfB Server sends a SIP
INVITE to the callee
5. The PBX calls the PSTN number, ring back
provided
6. Call is answered

Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
When to use Call via Work
Typical SfB adoption seems to be –
IM/Presence > P2P AV > Conferencing > Dial-in conferencing > Enterprise Voice
CvW isn’t a true RCC replacement where you expect the PBX and legacy handsets to
coexist with Enterprise Voice long term.
CvW isn’t an Enterprise Voice replacement, the user experience is lacking and the feature
set is nowhere near parity.
CvW is a great option to offer introductory telephony functionality from the SfB Client when
your deployment is at the Dial-in conferencing stage.
8
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
Deploy Call via Work Overview
1. Prerequisites
2. Create a CvW global phone number
3. Create a CvW Policy
4. Grant the Policy to a user
5. Client Configuration
9
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
1. CvW Prerequisites
• Mediation server with an IP-PBX Gateway configured
• CvW users require a DID on the PBX
• CvW users are Enterprise Voice enabled and the LineURI populated with their PBX
DID
• CvW users must use Automatic Configuration as the connection type in their client
• CvW users must be enabled for dial-in and dial-out SfB conferencing
• Enable call forwarding and simultaneous ringing
• Disable delegation, team call and response group functions
10
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
2. Create the CvW global phone number
Cmdlet - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412811.aspx
Set-CsRoutingConfiguration -CallViaWorkCallerId +61290082777
CallViaWorkCallerID This number appears to the local party (caller)
3. Create a CvW Policy
Cmdlet - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412811.aspx
New-CsCallViaWorkPolicy -Identity Tag:Untitled6CvWP -Enabled $true
-UseAdminCallbackNumber $false -AdminCallbackNumber +61290082707
UseAdminCallbackNumber $false Allow users to change the AdminCallBackNumber
AdminCallBackNumber is the local party number (desk phone)
11
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
4. Grant the CvW policy to a user
Cmdlet - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn985891.aspx
Grant-CsCallViaWorkPolicy -Identity PatrickBateman `
-PolicyName Tag:Untitled6CvWP
5. Client Configuration
1. Under Tools > Options confirm Call Forwarding shows as Call Handling
If not then the back end configuration for the user is missing something.
2. Set Simultaneously ring to your PBX DID or Extension
3. Under Outgoing Calls check Use this number to make calls and select your PBX DID.
12
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
The Call via Work User Experience
Caller ID
Inbound call to desk phone shows the CvW Global Number.
The CallViaWorkCallerId attribute
Outbound call to recipient shows the users desk phone DID
This relies on the LineURI matching the PBX DID.
Inbound Calls
Relies on Call Forking or SimRing functionality on the PBX
or
Inbound calls flow into Skype which uses SimRing to call the desk phone
In either instance call control is lost if the call is answered on the desk phone!
13
Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work
Pros
• Click-to-call
• Presence, user search, and IM
• The ability to add IM, application sharing,
and file transfer to a Call Via Work call.
• One-click meeting join capability
• Low barrier to adoption
14
Cons
• No Call Park, Transfer or Hold via Skype
• No Mute/Unmute via Skype
• Can’t record meeting audio
• No Delegation, Team Call or Response Group
features
• No E911 and Malicious Tracing
• No SfB Desk Phone Pairing
If PBX doesn’t support REFER with Replaces then…
If the user transfers the ongoing call the call window remains and if it is closed the call is
dropped.

Summary
With the move to Office 365 your customer took a big step to modernize their
productivity platform.
Adding Lync voice to provide an integrated communications experience is the next logical
step.
Deploying Lync voice is a complicated and costly task, requiring multiple servers and
days/weeks of deployment cycle.
AudioCodes One Box 365 helps simplify the bring up of Lync voice and helps you save on
expensive resources for the installation and managment costs for SMB’s and larger
enterprises.
Schedule today your evaluation session with the AudioCodes sales team.

  • 5. 5 Skype for Business Call via Work Sydney UC User Group Aidan Freeman November 2015
  • 6. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work What is Call via Work? …referred to as CvW from here on out. Remote Call Control (RCC) Replacement …without all of the Control part  or Enterprise Voice “Light” …transitionary Scenario/Option for telephony Uses the Skype for Business conference server to initiate two calls. 1. First call to the users handset 2. Second call to the remote party 3. Calls are joined together with SfB acting as a bridge 6
  • 7. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work How does Call via Work, work? 1. User initiates an outbound call using SfB Client 2. SfB Server sends a SIP INVITE to the PBX to initiate a call to the desk phone. 3. The PBX rings the desk phone 4. Desk phone answered, SfB Server sends a SIP INVITE to the callee 5. The PBX calls the PSTN number, ring back provided 6. Call is answered 7 SfB Server 2015 Desk Phone/HandsetSfB User/Client (Caller) IP-PBX Mobile (Callee) PSTN 1 2 3 4 5 6 Audio/Media
  • 8. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work When to use Call via Work Typical SfB adoption seems to be – IM/Presence > P2P AV > Conferencing > Dial-in conferencing > Enterprise Voice CvW isn’t a true RCC replacement where you expect the PBX and legacy handsets to coexist with Enterprise Voice long term. CvW isn’t an Enterprise Voice replacement, the user experience is lacking and the feature set is nowhere near parity. CvW is a great option to offer introductory telephony functionality from the SfB Client when your deployment is at the Dial-in conferencing stage. 8
  • 9. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work Deploy Call via Work Overview 1. Prerequisites 2. Create a CvW global phone number 3. Create a CvW Policy 4. Grant the Policy to a user 5. Client Configuration 9
  • 10. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work 1. CvW Prerequisites • Mediation server with an IP-PBX Gateway configured • CvW users require a DID on the PBX • CvW users are Enterprise Voice enabled and the LineURI populated with their PBX DID • CvW users must use Automatic Configuration as the connection type in their client • CvW users must be enabled for dial-in and dial-out SfB conferencing • Enable call forwarding and simultaneous ringing • Disable delegation, team call and response group functions 10
  • 11. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work 2. Create the CvW global phone number Cmdlet - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412811.aspx Set-CsRoutingConfiguration -CallViaWorkCallerId +61290082777 CallViaWorkCallerID This number appears to the local party (caller) 3. Create a CvW Policy Cmdlet - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412811.aspx New-CsCallViaWorkPolicy -Identity Tag:Untitled6CvWP -Enabled $true -UseAdminCallbackNumber $false -AdminCallbackNumber +61290082707 UseAdminCallbackNumber $false Allow users to change the AdminCallBackNumber AdminCallBackNumber is the local party number (desk phone) 11
  • 12. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work 4. Grant the CvW policy to a user Cmdlet - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn985891.aspx Grant-CsCallViaWorkPolicy -Identity PatrickBateman ` -PolicyName Tag:Untitled6CvWP 5. Client Configuration 1. Under Tools > Options confirm Call Forwarding shows as Call Handling If not then the back end configuration for the user is missing something. 2. Set Simultaneously ring to your PBX DID or Extension 3. Under Outgoing Calls check Use this number to make calls and select your PBX DID. 12
  • 13. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work The Call via Work User Experience Caller ID Inbound call to desk phone shows the CvW Global Number. The CallViaWorkCallerId attribute Outbound call to recipient shows the users desk phone DID This relies on the LineURI matching the PBX DID. Inbound Calls Relies on Call Forking or SimRing functionality on the PBX or Inbound calls flow into Skype which uses SimRing to call the desk phone In either instance call control is lost if the call is answered on the desk phone! 13
  • 14. Sydney UC User Group – Call via Work Pros • Click-to-call • Presence, user search, and IM • The ability to add IM, application sharing, and file transfer to a Call Via Work call. • One-click meeting join capability • Low barrier to adoption 14 Cons • No Call Park, Transfer or Hold via Skype • No Mute/Unmute via Skype • Can’t record meeting audio • No Delegation, Team Call or Response Group features • No E911 and Malicious Tracing • No SfB Desk Phone Pairing If PBX doesn’t support REFER with Replaces then… If the user transfers the ongoing call the call window remains and if it is closed the call is dropped.
