This document discusses the importance of perspective taking and seeing situations from others' points of view. It examines how to switch roles from a parent's perspective to understand their child's experiences, from an employee's perspective to understand their employer's responsibilities, and from an employer's perspective to understand their employees' lives outside of work. The document encourages open communication, realistic expectations, and understanding others rather than fear, force, or overlooking their feelings.

As a Parent…
Have you thought about how it is to be a child or teenager in this
day and age? I would, personally, not change the time period in
which I grew up in, which was mostly the 80s. As a parent, keep
these in mind:
Overwhelming technology
Pressures to excel in EVERYTHING, not just football anymore
Standardized tests
Negative encouragement to be lazy, not work, and do the least
amount possible.

As a parent…
Understand that they are living now and now is different than
then.
Encourage by leading and modeling, not by fear and force
Discipline and set realistic standards
A test does not prove anything more than knowledge gained
and remembered at that moment.
Monitor the technology use, even during the rough times
Challenge within reason and with love

As an employee….
Did you ever take the time to look at your job from the employers
point of view? Have you thought if their needs are being met? Do
they wake up wanting to come to work every day?
Many times, it can be very effective in putting yourself in the other
person’s shoes. It gives us a perspective that does not come
naturally. It forces us to reflect on someone other than ourselves.

As an employee…
Understand that your employer has stress, deadlines, and
much responsibility.
Know that your employer has a life outside of work, or at least I
hope they do!
Respect the responsibilities your employer has to the company,
clients, and customers.
Remember that your actions and words have an effective on
everyone they encounter.

As an employer…
Did you ever take the time to look at your employee’s work day?
Have you taken the time to form a relationship with all of your
employees, not just a select few? Have you created an
environment of open communication between you and your
employees?
It is very easy for employers to get so caught up in their
responsibilities and deadlines, that they overlook how their
employees really feel about coming to work that day. This can
greatly affect their productivity, which in turn affects the company
as a whole.

As an employer…
Take the time to get to know your employees
Set realistic expectations
Take in consideration your employees strengths and
weaknesses
Be a leader
Know the difference between a leader and a boss
Understand that your employees have a life outside of work
Be approachable
