2. bungAlOw: A pOp-up cAfe with A SOciAl cOnScience
in response to the need for youth employment assistance,
bungalow operates as a social enterprise and offers training,
part time employment and mentoring to young people involved
in ngO programs, with profits going directly to the ngO.
this service is in the form of a transportable cafe which
moves to different locations around melbourne on a monthly
basis. Due to the nature of the concept the design had to be
compact, lightweight, flexible and inexpensive. recycled and
proprietary materials are used wherever possible to reduce
waste and cost, and modulated components retain flexibility.

6. plug: yOuth cOmmunity centre AnD muSic StuDiOS
plug is a community centre for disadvantaged and troubled youth.
it is a space where they can socialize and connect with others in
familiar circumstances, have access to musical and recording
equipment and reconnect with their community through music.
Over many centuries music (playing or listening) has proven to
be one of the most powerful tools for creative release as well
as general improvement of mood and self esteem. but access
to instruments, recording equipment and lessons can be costly.
the goal of plug is to make such a creative space accessible,
and to ‘plug’ troubled youth back into their communities.

Designed in response to a brief aimed at providing a safe,
secure area within the home for youths experiencing tension
within the family, the tubed wall divider system is a temporary
room divider that gives complete control to the user.
the system allows the user to determine the pathway of the
walls, determine the amount of interaction with the rest of
the family and customise the space to include lights, a locking
feature, shelves and colour. the system is also environmentally
friendly using cardboard tubes as its main material which
improves the thermal and acoustic properties of the space.
