The mushroom pavilions
For unknown reasons, the most ordinary things such as the blue sky or
the song of the birds have the power of introspection, inner peace
and contentedness. The mushroom pavilion is a space of solitude, mel-
ancholy and inner-peace, a place of paradox, because life is paradox-
al.Light and shadow are the main materials of this composition that
combines a wood pavilion and the nature. A serie of iterations using
grasshopper creates very uniques paterns and differents experiences
and sensations.

Community Center
Natal/RN
Brazil
Every project is attached to a unique space and time. The way a building relates to
this uniqueness manifested in things such as culture and climate defines whether it
is successful or not.
In this project we aimed to design a community center that could attend the commu-
nity’s needs, provide thermal confort and energy efficiency. To do that we used a
set of architectural strategies for the tropical clima, such as solar shading, crossed
ventilation, inner courtyard and use of natural light. At the same time we were
seeking for a design that could be not only efficient, but aesthetically expressive
and according to the building materials available in Natal City.

The project consists in a main block, where
is the workshop rooms and administration,
the auditorium, a sports court, a pool, a
skate park and a pool. The community
center congregates all the community, in-
depently from age, sex or any social
aspect, by hosting different activities and
also providing a public space where people
can get to know each other sharing their
interests.

The profuse use of windows
and openings combined with
the arrangement of the roofs
is how the building captures
the natural light, the solar
shading on the windows and
the roof makes this resource
- the natural light - more
efficient, because it blocks
the direct radiation of the
solar rays, but allows dif-
fused and indirect light to
enter the building
In order to increase
the acoustic and ther-
mal roof’s performance
we inserted between two
layers of metal tile a
polystyrene layer
The ventilation goes through
the openings, the inner court-
yard and the space between the
tiles and the slabes refreshing
the indoors space. On the main
building we did put the small
faces turned to the West and
East in order to reduce the
amount of solar radiation on
the building during the day.
