2. MAGAZINE SURVEY ANALYSIS
I will now analyse my findings from my magazine survey. I created it
on surveymonkey, and I sent it out via web link. I used whatsapp
mainly, and sent the link to group chats I am in with family and
friends. I made sure that the people in the chats were strictly in the
age bracket of 13-24, which is my ideal target audience. I received a
total of 10 responses.
4. QUESTION 1 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC
GENRE?
Evidently here, the most popular
genre of music is either Grime, Pop
or R&B. These were voted 5 times
each. (Respondents were able to vote
for more than one genre). Therefore,
seeing as these are the trendiest
genres as of this moment in time for
my target audience, I will be inclined
to base my magazine off of one of
these genres.
5. In order to make this more detailed and provide an accurate
representation of favourite genres, I have sorted it into gender
as well. I know how many males or females chose each genre
because surveymonkey provides all the information I need.
Therefore I have discovered that: Pop was chosen 5 times,
three times by males and twice by females. (Might I add that
males are the majority of the respondents - I will cover this
later in the post). This shows that pop is more popular among
boys than it is amongst girls.
QUESTION 1 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC GENRE?
6. Grime was chosen 5 times also, twice by males, twice be
females, and once by a respondent claiming to be 'Non-
Binary' (Neither male nor female). This shows that grime is
popular with all types of genders, ergo it would be an
economical choice to feature in the magazine, given that it
is loved by all types of people and therefore would be
popular among my target audience. This also shows that
grime is unisex, not just for male or female, meaning that
if I was to choose this genre as my main genre of my
magazine, then I know that the magazine itself could be
aimed towards all genders.
QUESTION 1 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC GENRE?
7. R&B was chosen 5 times, thrice by males and twice by females meaning it is
evidently more popular with the male population of 13-24 year olds. This would
also be an obvious choice as it is clear that this is another popular genre, therefore
my target audience would be inclined to read it. Indie music genre is more
alternative, and therefore only chosen twice, both times by persons identifying as
female. Understandably so, I would not choose this to be the main genre of my
music magazine because I would want a more popular genre in order to gain more
popularity - I would get less popularity with a less popular music genre. However, I
could also use this genre and have an alternative magazine aimed at a niche
audience.
The least popular choice was clearly rock, only being chosen once , and by a male.
It would make sense to not choose this genre because it is not as popular, and it
easier to produce a product that has high demand. However, as previously stated, I
could simply produce a more alternative magazine aimed at a niche audience, in
this case, rock music fans.
QUESTION 1 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC GENRE?
9. This question was used to find out what
the general favourite colour was for my
target audience demographic of 13-24
year olds was. The overwhelming
favourite was blue, which was chosen
7/10 times, which equates to a majority
70% turn out. Therefore, it would be wise
to make blue the main, prominent,
featured colour for my magazine.
It will create brand identity to promote
customer recognition and will be helpful
when marketing the magazine, as people
will see the colour blue and be reminded
of this magazine. Blue may be popular
due to its connotations, which include
knowledge, trust and serenity.
QUESTION 2 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?
10. Red, green and purple are all second favourite with one
vote apiece, meaning yellow, orange and every other colour
were not liked by any of my target audience respondent.
This means that I will not be using yellow, orange or any
other colours in my magazine because evidently my target
audience does not like them as much, and therefore will be
more inclined to purchase another magazine elsewhere
that features blue, their favourite colour.
QUESTION 2 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?
11. In more detail, blue was chosen 4 times by males, twice by females,
and once by non-binary. This shows that this colour is popular
amongst all types of genders, therefore it is unisex and would be a
good choice to be featured in a magazine, because it ensures that it
the magazine itself would be popular with all genders and in turn
allows the magazine to become generally well - known.
Green was chosen once by male only, suggesting that green, which
has connotations of nature, peace, and growth, is a more male
orientated colour. Red was chosen once by females only. Red has
connotations of energy, courage and strength, and seeing as it was
only chosen by females, suggests it is a female - orientated colour.
Finally, purple was also only chosen once, and was voted for by a
female only. Purple is already a stereotypically purple colour, due to
female aimed products being consumed at a young age using the
colour purple, such as Bratz Dolls. Purple has connotations of
arrogance, luxury and mystery.
QUESTION 2 :
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?
13. I asked this question specifically
because I wanted to expand more on the
colour scheme decision for my
magazine. The previous question told
me that the most popular colour was
blue, whereas, as specific as that is, I
needed more, therefore I asked whether
my target audience comprising of 13-24
year olds preferred dark or light colours.
The results were equal. Light and dark
had 5 votes and 5 votes respectively.
This shows to me that the two choices
were equally as popular, and that if I
were to include either one, they would
both be popular.
QUESTION 3 :
DO YOU PREFER LIGHT OR DARK COLOURS?
