Skills Based Speed Dating Pt. 1: Pitch-Writing for CorporationsVolunteerMatch
Skills-based volunteering is increasingly popular among companies, but developing strong, effective skills-based partnerships with nonprofit organizations can be very challenging. Nonprofits can be unsure of the expertise they’re receiving and how much effort it will require from their typically capacity-constrained organization. Companies can be unsure of what specific skill or type of skills based volunteering would be of most benefit to the community and their employee-volunteers. By speaking to the “other side of the aisle”, both companies and nonprofits will better understand how to think about, message and launch their skills based initiatives.
This session at the 2015 VolunteerMatch Summit brought together companies and nonprofits who want to take that second step with their skills-based volunteer programs, through a fun, interactive speed dating session. Companies had the chance to hear what services would be particularly helpful to nonprofits in their communities – and nonprofits had a chance to “pitch” their skills-based project in a low-risk, low-pressure environment and get feedback on what will make their project even more attractive to potential corporate partners.
While an effective board has always been important, it is especially essential in periods of economic turbulence. Board members who offer independent insights from their own experience, and provide access to external resources are critical to management when making decisions key to organizational viability. Building and sustaining a high performance board requires an investment of time, the right leadership and a thoughtful strategy. It is important to align the board’s role and its members’ expectations with the nonprofit’s stage of organizational development. Without proper stewardship, tension can arise when what an organization needs from its board transcends members’ understanding of their role .

SugarNGO: A Partnership of NGOs, SugarCRM and the Sugar Ecosystem | SugarCon ...SugarCRM
NGOs (Non-governmental Organizations) are non-profit voluntary citizens' groups organized around a core set of goals or principles which they drive toward through action. CRM tools are critical for NGOs and SugarCRM is a natural fit given its open source, collaborative approach to development.
NGOs can appreciate the unique customizability of Sugar since traditional sales tools are often necessary for them but need to be re-conceptualized around this unique industry. With this session, we kick off an exciting partnership between the community of NGOs, SugarCRM, and the extended set of partners and customers that comprise the Sugar ecosystem. We discuss some of the unique needs NGOs have for CRM and demonstrate how two specific organizations -- The Robin Hood Foundation and StoryCorps -- have customized versions of Sugar to meet those needs. We demonstrate the business case for a coalition of NGOs driving Sugar development that is focused on the unique needs of NGOs, and provide concrete next steps for the build-out of a robust NGO community for Sugar.

3. What is successful engagement?
A marketing strategy that directly involves your target
audience and lets them participate in the evolution of your
brand or brand experience.
5. China Entrepreneurs
Established to share personal experiences and
resources to support entrepreneurship in China.
Began with monthly gatherings of 20 - 30 people.
6. Entrepreneurship in China is taking off.
In 2000, revenues earned by Chinese state-owned industrial
enterprises and those earned by non-state-owned private enterprises
were roughly the same.
By 2013, total revenues at state-owned companies had risen just over
six fold, while revenues in the non-state sector had risen by more than
18 times.
7. We continued to build our community.
Strategically incorporated events as high-touch
engagement opportunities.
Sponsors started contacting us to get
involved as we grew.
8. And we grew.
Transformed into an organization with 20,000+ Chinese and
international members.
100+ events per year.
10. We did our homework.
Pay special attention to understand your
target audience.
Cater to attendee needs by providing insights on
the topics your audience wants to learn about.
11. We thought through event details.
Understand how attendees, sponsors, and speakers are part
of the event experience.

We created an Entrepreneur Committee to evaluate the
costs and benefits of this member segment.
Look at member lists and create programming to engage different

Re-evaluate methods of driving value including internal processes for
membership applications and renewals
