Relationship Between Diabetes And Depression
Intro Throughout high school, I worked in an antenatal clinic that provided services to a number of
underprivileged women during and after their pregnancies. Many women suffered from severe
depression and often times social workers had to called to prevent the women from committing
suicide. Common among the women, who generally suffered from a wide variety of afflictions, was
diabetes. In this paper I chose to explore the relationship between diabetes and depression in pregnant
women. PPD Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mild to severe mood disorder that develops in 10 20%
of mothers in the U.S. annually, following birth of their baby. Women often experience anxiety,
hopelessness, sadness, apathy towards newborn, mood swings, and crying spells, which can last three
months to a year. These women have difficulty bonding with the baby, are withdrawn from friends and
family, are irritable and have thoughts of harming self or baby or both. If untreated PPD may persist
for many months. PPD affects the health of both mother and child, interfering with the development of
mother child relationships. Children of depressed mothers have been shown to develop significant
emotional cognitive and developmental delays. PPD is more commonly seen in teenage mothers and
mothers of lower socio economic status (Kozhimannil K.B, et al.,2009), something I can attest to from
my work in the clinic. PPD is now considered the most significant obstetrical complication and
elevated to global

Two Theories Of Cognitive Development
Two theories of cognitive development during transition from adolescence to early adulthood
Cognitive development is a term that describes the growth of a person s ability to think and reason.
This growth happens in stages. To understand this development from adolescence to the early
adulthood, two theories are important in our understanding of this process. In this write up, the
adolescence development theory called formal operations which is the last stage of Jean Piaget s
stages of cognitive development and Kramer s (1983, 1989) three stages of cognitive progression
beginning with absolutist reasoning marking early adulthood are summarized. For Piaget (1973), there
are stages in human cognitive development, which culminates with the stage called formal operation
beyond which early adulthood sets in. According to Piaget, this level of cognitive development is
marked by a shift from concrete operation thinking to a capacity for abstract reasoning. At this stage
the adolescence focuses less on the immediate concrete world and begins to develop and conceive
abstract concepts like justice, politics, and history etc. According to Piaget, the adolescent stage begins
approximately at 11 years. Adolescences are also able to more logical and scientific in solving
problems. This stage is called hypothetico deductive reasoning and propositional thought or scientific
approach to problem solving according to Piaget; in other words, adolescents can develop the capacity
to identify situations and problem and variables that may affect the resolutions of such problem.
Finally, adolescents develop the capacity for imaginary audience. They develop the capacity for
observation and interpretation. By mere observation, adolescents can observe behaviors, comments,
expressions and appearances and interpret their perceptions and thus make guesses about other
peoples feelings. The second theory that deals with adolescence transition into early adulthood is
propounded by Kramer (1983, 1989). He noted that human cognitive development takes three stages
that include; absolutist, relativist and dialectical stage. According to Kramer, early adulthood begins
with absolutist stage. At this stage people believe that at all times

Lithium Ion Batteries For Electric Vehicle Batteries Essay
Introduction
A lithium ion (Li ion) battery is a type of rechargeable battery which uses a lithium ion that moves
from a positive electrode (cathode) to a negative electrode (anode) during charging and vice versa
during discharge. Lithium ion batteries are less environmentally damaging than batteries containing
heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, but recycling them is still far preferable to incinerating
them or sending them to landfill. Lithium ion batteries are made up of one or more generating
compartments called cells. Each cell is composed of three components: an anode, a cathode, and a
chemical called an electrolyte in between them.
Lithium ion batteries are becoming more common in portable electronic devices due to their high
energy density, lack of memory effect, and high charge and discharge rate capabilities. Research and
development work is ongoing to improve safety and increase capacity, charge/discharge rate, and
lifetime. Demand for electric vehicle batteries is currently small, but it is expected to grow very
quickly. China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States are the major lithium ion battery
manufacturers for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.
A lot of information from different sources was gathered with the purpose of comparing different Li
ion batteries mechanisms, cathode and anode materials, structure and fabrication procedures, and their
respective advantages and disadvantages.

The Death Of An Athlete Dying Young By. Housman
To an Athlete Dying Young , by A.E. Housman, is a thought provoking elegy. The poem is about the
early demise of an accomplished runner. Surely, it is sad when someone dies too soon especially when
there is so much to look forward to. One may ask, Is there an advantage of dying young? Well, there
is! In this poem, Housman shows the silver lining to dying young during the height of one s success.
The first stanza of the poem starts off in a happy mood. Housman use imagery to establish the fame
and glory of a young athlete. The speaker reminisces about the time when the young athlete was
coming home after he won a race. It also establishes the relationship between the athlete and the
people in his town. On his way home, people gather around the market place to watch and cheer for
him. To the people, he is not merely an athlete. He is their hometown hero. He is the glory of the town.
The young athlete relishes in the fame as the people carry him high up on their shoulders and parade
him home. But the happiness quickly changes in the second stanza. The second stanza begins with a
time shift from reminiscing of the past to the present. The mood of the poem also makes a dramatic
shift from happy to solemn. Today, the road all runners come/ Shoulder high we bring you home. (
Housman 5 6). Even though it is not clearly stated that the young runner died, the title of the poem
makes it obvious. The road is a metaphor for death. It is a path that we are all going down. The

Lying Is A Huge Part Of Our Social Game
A pocket sized lie detector could only be awesome. Imagine asking someone out, and they lied about
why they couldn t go, bing lie detected. Or if someone had stolen you favorite sweater, and a friend
said they knew who took it bing a truth. Lie detectors have many times been attempted. But there are
problems with lie detectors, not only because humans would trust a machine more than man, but also
the many unknown limits to them, and that they actually aren t a necessity in our modern socie ty. For
as long as humans have been, we have lied, smuggled, hidden truths and deceived in almost eve ry
way. Lying is a huge part of our social game in life. And it may always be, humans lie both for own,
and others sake. When I was younger, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most invented lie detectors have tested the same physical changes and things, such as blood pressure,
breathing etc.. Physical changes are easiest to determine, although they some times are hardest to
understand (Côté ; Navarro ; American Psychological Association). The most com monly known lie
detector device is the polygraph. A machine that registers your heart rate/ blood pressure, respiration,
and skin conductivity (American Psychological Association). It is the device that is closest to the
description, when people think of a common lie detector . But, although the machine isn t 100%
correct itself, people stilled believed in its judgement when it was first invented. Which weirdly
enough makes lie detectors seem untruthful themselves. But although some lie detectors can be
doubted, they have been tried several times throughout history.
Lie detectors have been attempted through history, but so far technology has been the limit. There had
been no such thing as an actual lie detector before the ending of the 19th century. Although there in
1878 was the Italian physiologist Angelo Mosso. (Côté). He used an instrument called a ple
thysmograph, he tested difference in blood circulation and breathing patterns, but no tries in
uncovering lies. The first detector used to determine truth was in 1895 when Italian physician, Cesare

Introduction To Daily Logarithmic Returns Is Done By...
This study employs the adjusted price of GBP exchange rates for 12 different currencies where BNKR
s investments are dominated in, during the period of January 2010 till July 2015. The total number of
daily logarithmic returns of each exchange rate is 1455. The daily logarithmic return is defined as:
R_t=ln*((P_t P_(t 1))/P_(t 1) )
Where P_t is the adjusted spot exchange rate at time t. The descriptive statistics summary of daily
logarithmic returns is reported in Table 1. Therefore, assessing the exposure of currency risk was done
by reviewing both return and risk profile for data sets.
Secondly, for the assessment of currency risk s exposure, VaR method based on incorporated volatility
using EWMA approach is used as the main currency risk measure. In this study, the value of VaR is
calculated for each exchange rate with a confident level of 99% and a decay factor (lambda =0.94) for
the next trading day in 31 of July 2015. As long as VaR is more extreme measure than standard
deviation, it is naturally that VaR would be much higher than standard deviation.
Since the average standard deviation of the developed markets is around 0.6% compared with the
0.71% in the devolving markets, it indicates that the Risk and VaR value in the developed markets
(1.5%) is less than the developing countries (1.71%). Hence, VaR showed that investing in US and
Swiss markets have the lowest currency risk in the developed markets, and investing in Pero and
Mexico have the lowest one in

Katherine And Suazo
SuazoIn both texts the conflict is very similar, the younger sister Bianca has many suitors but the
fatherwill not allow her to date/marry until her older sister Katherine/Katarina does first. The issue is
solved once the suitor s find Petruchio/Patrick and pay him to be with her but at the end they actually
fall in love. One difference between the film and the play would be in the way that Petruchio/Patrick
attempts to captivate her. In the film, he tries to woe her by finding out what her interests are and what
she likes in a man. However, in the play he speaks sweet to her but does other wise by being
disrespectful and cruel towards her. For example, once they are married and she is at his home, he tries
to starve her and deprive her from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, one of the most noticeable differences was in the main character Katherine. Although
Katarina s personality is still antagonistic in the movie, Katherine is a lot more hostile and violent in
the play. Bianca pleads, I prithee, sister Kate, unite my hands (Shakespeare). In this instance,
Katherine has tied up Bianca s hands because she demands her to tell her truthfully which suitor she
likes the most. Bianca is pleading to be untied but since Bianca did not reply with the answer she
wanted to hear, Katherine hits Bianca. In the film Katarina never strikes her sister or anyone else to
cause harm. It is also the same case with Pettruchio in the play; he is portrayed as even more
belligerent compared to Katherine. He also behaves that way towards herwhen he tries to control her
by starving her and depriving her sleep. Nonetheless, Patrick seems to be gentler with Katarina and
even considerate of her well being. For example, when Katarina becomes intoxicated at a party,
Patrick takes care of her until she gets better and takes her home.In addition, there is a huge time gap
between the movie and the play, which lead to completely different cultures. The play is based of the
1590 s while the movie is based on the late 1990 s almost borderline 2000 s since it was made in 1999.
An obvious difference that can be seen is the language that is being used in the play; it is still English
but a much older version. The English being used in Shakespeare play is much more formal and less
direct than the one in the movie, which has more cursing and openness to topics such as sex. The type
of fashion beingdescribed in the play is nothing alike to the one being used in the film. Petruchio
describes the clothing that they will wear when they return to Katherine s house, with silken coats and
caps...with ruffs and cuffs and farthingales... (Shakespeare). In the film, the

The Scientific Management And The Human Relations Theories
This essay will be evaluating both the Scientific management and the Human relations theories in
today s management of organisations. Scientific management theory was founded and published by
Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1909 where he proposed that productivity can be increased by
augmenting and simplifying workloads which then improves economic efficiency (Economist, 2009).
On the other hand, Human relations theories focuses on personal factors and suggests that motivation
and leadership are the features that help encourage workers to work productively (Dininni, 2017).
For Scientific Management Theory, one of Taylor s four principles was the rule of thumb where
managers should think and use scientific method to increase production by ... Show more content on

As opposed to Taylor s scientific theory, human relations theory value the workers which leads to
increased motivation and productivity (Bianca, 2017). An example of this would be a private sector,
Google. Instead of adopting Taylor s style where there are strict rules, Google allows freedom for the
workers by letting them work when they want and allowing customisation of their own surroundings
(Garguilo, 2011). This gives them their personal freedom which in turn increases motivation to work.
Therefore, this suggests that even though Taylor diminished social factors, human relations theory
gives evidence that social factors such as freedom does affect productivity in today s management.
Taylor suggested a piecework pay system where workers are payed according to their productivity.
Therefore, a worker with high productivity gets higher wages than those with less productivity. This
results in the motivation of the employees to work at an efficient rate which will mean greater
productivity and higher pay (Lawler, 2000). In addition, the customers are benefitted as enhanced
productivity will lead to advanced service or additional products created. This system can be applied
into a public sector such as libraries where the standards of

The Takers And The Leavers By Daniel Quinn
The story begins with Daniel Quinn writing about a day in his life, until he comes upon an absurd
advertisement in the personals section of the newspaper: TEACHER seeks pupil. Must have an earnest
desire to save the world. Apply in person. Suspicious, Quinn investigates this advertisement with
intentions of exposing fraud. Instead, he discovers Ishmael in Room 105 of a undistinguished office
building. Sitting calmly, Ishmael gently nibbled on a slender branch. Appalled, Quinn stumbled
towards the chair. Ishmael and Quinn gazed into each other s eyes, and much to his disgruntlement,
the glowing eyes spoke to him. Nodding his head to the unspoken question, Ishmael quietly said, I am
the teacher. Ishmael explains that Quinn is part of a culture, that results in him being taught certain
stories between the relationships of man, the world, and the Gods. These explanations will be made
clearer to the pupil by being assisted in recognizing why the stories are misleading. Ishmael s goal will
show the narrator that human history comes from two groups, the Takers and the Leavers. These
groups legislate two completely different stories about man, the world, and the Gods. Takers are the
humans who developed agriculture and civilization, who still dominate on Earth today. The Leavers,
in contradiction, are those who don t adopt agricultural practices and disregard the benefits of
civilization.
In lessons, Ishmael asks Quinn to explain other stories that the Takers imagine. The pupil

What Is Memoral Anteversion In Children
Femoral Anteversion in Children By Liji Thomas, MD Femoral anteversion is a condition in which
the thigh bone or femur is twisted inwardly, resulting in the in turning of the knees and feet. The gait is
typically pigeon toed. The stance of the affected toddler or child shows a bowed leg appearance
because of the position of the femur. This actually improves the balance of the child, however. On the
other hand, holding a position with the feet together or turned out can cause the child to become
unsteady and to fall more often. The condition first manifests itself between the ages of 2 4 years,
which is when the hip is maximally rotated medially. It is best seen outwardly at the age of 5 6 years.
Femoral anteversion is considered a normal variant,

Speaking With Claire I Learned That The Line Item Budget
speaking with Claire I learned that the Line Item budget that the city and the police department utilize
is a very common budget strategy that many city governments utilize because of its ease of use. The
Line Item budget is a budget in which the individual financial statement items are grouped together by
cost centers or Departments. This budget process shows the comparison between the financial data
gathered for the past budgeting periods and creates a projected figure for the current or future
budgeting period.
Advantages of the Line Item Budget
The Line Item budget offers decision makers within the city government an incremental approach to
budgeting. These decision and policy makers can use the Line Item budget to make specific ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thinking may eliminate the opportunity to take an in depth look at each Line Item to determine if
the proposed expenditure is truly necessary or if the available funds could be allocated more
efficiently. Another potential pitfall is that a Line Item budget may result in departments unnecessarily
spending unused funds toward the end of the fiscal year. This mentality is the concept of use it or lose
it. This mentality drives Department heads to feel that if they have too much money left over at the
end of the year, their budget could be drastically cut in the upcoming year. Oftentimes in Line Item
budgeting, there is a tendency to budget each miniscule expense in an attempt to control costs. An
example of this would be when department heads track the cost of office stationery separately from
expenditures for copy paper and mailing envelopes. This thinking is wrong as the Line Item of office
supplies should cover these items. The final disadvantage I noted within the Line Item budget is the
tendency for department managers to feel authorized to operate with the same level of funding they
had in previous years. Due to this mentality, department divisions might compete with each for a
larger share of the budget, instead of looking at what is best for the department as a whole.

Massachusetts. The economic development of Massachusetts and Virginia

most obvious difference between the colonies was the religion. The Puritans
believed in self control and no need for excessive profits. Virginia had
problems with embezzling, overcharging, and the use of company laborers.
The second difference between the colonies was the Native American
relations. Virginia had problems with natives from the start. Massachusetts
learned the best ways to survive in the area by watching and having good
relationships with the natives. The third difference was the urban life. Both
societies were impacted with an increase in immigrants, creating a
competition for work. Boston was the worst and people looked to the
community for help. In conclusion, all of the differences resulted in two
economic systems that were successful, but very different.
Both Virginia and Massachusetts had the same goal of colonial
success and stability but their ways about securing the stability and gaining
economic success and wealth reflected their previous established morals

The Push for Cone-Beam Computed Tomography
Dentistry is a field of exactness and the upmost precision. Today, most dentist continue to use the
limited 2D plaster models that only show the teeth and gums from a lateral position showing only the
outside and the inside of the mouth. Plaster models tend to only show the visible, apparent problems
that may be wrong with a patient but cannot effectively showcase the many other possibilities that
may be causing a patient to have malocclusions and misalignments of the jaw. Cone beam computed
tomography shows the roots of the teeth with precision while also displaying the bones in the head so
that any anomaly can easily be noticed and allow for easier work. There have also been specific
studies to determine how each person varies in their nasal passages and how this can cause certain
problems in each case. Overall, Cone Beam Computed Tomography proves to be the best option for
orthodontists to use because it accurately scans the facial structure and teeth allowing for the ultimate
amount of precision by orthodontists when dealing with the amount of space teeth need to be moved
and compare that with the forces particularly required to achieve a satisfactory product. With this
being said, Cone Beam Computed Tomography should be pushed widespread into the field of
Orthodontics so that in cases of great complexity patients with the proper health can be properly
helped with their situations. This technology can successfully bring the accuracy into the field needed

The Freedom Of School Choice Essay
In a nation founded upon freedom, the liberty to choose the institution from which you get your
education should be a greater concern in Pennsylvania. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy of
liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our
government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America should
have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned with this
infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom to
homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being that
they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire the
religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated. Because
of the support that the government gives public schools using tax dollars and government subsidies,
parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools, secular
private schools, or even charter schools.
Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents to
put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Many public schools are
dropping their academic standards as well as losing their ethical standards altogether. Thus many
parents do not want to put their children in a school where they do not

some sort of dehumanization. Each one was different than the other and had different effects on the
characters. While Bartleby was in a city, staying in his workspace all the time, Douglass lived the life
of a slave in America and was severely mistreated. They both lost their humanity through work and
being treated less than human beings. This can affect people in many ways, the side effects just
depend on each person. No matter how it changes people, the way to cure dehumanization is through
other people. Human beings need one another to make them feel human.
Melville created Bartleby as quite a unique character. He lives in the lawyer s office and works as a
scrivener so he never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just living in an office and never going outside would affect anyone and not only that has changed
Bartleby but also his previous job. He used to work at a dead letters office which is where lost mail is
sent to be burned. With each letter he incinerated, he was destroying memories and emotions that were
meant for certain people which must have taken a toll on Bartleby. When he first arrived at the office
he did an amazing job working night and day. The narrator explains, I should have been quite
delighted with his application, had he been cheerfully industrious. But he wrote on silently, palely,
mechanically (Melville pg.1476). This is a sign that we are given that something is off. After two days
of his diligent work, he began to say the phrase, I would prefer not to when asked to do a task. The

Friendship In The Chosen, The Quarrel, And On Friendship
There are many ideas and opinions on the nature of friendship, but there are characteristics that texts
and films have in common that contribute to the overall nature of friendship. From these texts it is
noted that friendship is determined and shaped through our culture, beliefs, societies and our
experiences. This can be seen through many texts and films, more specifically in The Chosen, David
and Jonathan , The Quarrel, and On Friendship .
In The Chosen the friendship between Danny and Reuven was hard to form because of their two
different backgrounds and beliefs but they managed to overcome this and form a strong connection
with one another. The fact that Danny grew up in a Hasidic Jewish society made it harder for him to
be friends with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, after the Holocaust, when Hersh and Chaim are reunited they begin to discuss things that
were left unresolved before the tragic experience of the Holocaust. As they are talking they soon
realize that they have different views on God after the Holocaust. Hersh remains faithful to God, but
Chaim is left with resentment and hatred towards God. God chose us. Hersh tells Chaim but Chaim
retorts with, To be hanged. From this it is evident that Hersh does not blame God or is not angry with
God, but Chaim is angry with God and feels betrayed by God. This disagreement on how they believe
in God causes a rift between them and their friendship, but they are soon able to resolve their
problems and patch up their friendship. In addition to that, their experiences at the Yeshiva before the
Holocaust shaped their friendship. Chaim started to break away from tradition and wanted to become
a writer and started to read books that were frowned upon by the community. This experience shaped
Chaim and Hersh s friendship because Chaim needed support from Hersh in his decision, but Hersh
was hurt by Chaim so he decided to not support Chaim. This is when I needed a friend, not another
angry voice. Chaim tells this to Hersh as they are walking and Chaim is evidently upset that Hersh did
not chose to support him as his

The Holocaust, And Art Spiegelman s Night And Maus
The word Holocaust refers to the mass murder of 6 million European Jews by the German Nazi
regime during World War II. It began in 1933 and ended in 1945. The ruler of Germany during this
time was Adolf Hitler. He and the Nazis put the Jew in concentration camps, where thousands were
killed everyday. This was one of the worst if not the worst genocides in history. Many books have
been written to document survivors testimony of this horrific event. Elie Wiesel shares his story and
Art Spiegelman shares his father s story in the books Night and Maus. Comparisons can be drawn
between Maus and Night through the author s purpose for writing , the survivor s experiences, and the
author s perspective.
Elie Wiesel s reason for writing Night was personal, but it was also to keep the world aware of the
damage that was caused. He is a messenger to mankind , the nobel peace committee had said as they
gave him the prize. Elie doesn t want history to repeat itself. The best way to do that is for the world to
know what happened and learn from their mistakes. The personal half of his reason was that Elie
wanted to protect his child. My son changed me. Once you bring a life into this world, you must
protect it by changing the world. These were Elie Wiesel s own words. One of Art Spiegelman s
reasons was almost the same. He was eager to share his father s story with the world. At the beginning
of Maus I, Art describes how he asked his father over and over to tell him his story. This

Cassiopea Xamachana Research Paper
Cassiopea xamachana, more commonly known as the upside down jellyfish, is commonly found in the
Caribbean Sea and parts of the western Atlantic Ocean. It lives near the bottoms of inshore ponds and
bays and other shallow, tropical waters. The upside down jellyfish can be found in sandy mudflats as
well. It is native to the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, but has also been introduced to the Pacific
Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The upside down jellyfish appears very different than other jellies; they
have a green/gray color to them opposed to the usual red, blue or violet. It works like a camouflage, as
it makes them appear to be a sea anemone or a bush. They have radial symmetry, meaning that if cut
into wedges, it would produce roughly the same result. The medusa has four branching tentacles used
for feeding. It also has a depression on its bell that is used to attach to the ground since some of the
jellyfish remain sedentary for most of its life. The jellyfish moves with the current of the water until it
reaches a place where it can settle and attach and there it says for the remainder of its life. Other jellies
will remain mobile in the medusa stage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Database System
Although the database system yields considerable advantages over previous data management
approaches, database systems do carry certain disadvantages. Such as:
1. Increased costs:
Database Systems are in requirement of hardware as well as software of a sophisticated nature, along
side personnel who are deemed highly skilled. the cost of maintenance of the personnel, the hardware
the software, required for the operation and management of a Database Management System may be
considerable. regulation licensing, compliance training costs are many at times looked over on the
implementation of the Database System.
a.) Cost of Hardware Software:
A processor capable of processing data at high speed, as well as, a sizeable memory are the
prerequisites which are required in order to execute the DBMS software. this implies that one has to

It can be said that The Great Leap Forward had affected the economy in China negatively as many had

the economy and the lifestyles of many peasants and helped China grow economically. It will be

Michael And Salhab s The Knights Templar
In the book The Knights Templar of the Middle East, The Hidden History of the Islamic Roots of
Freemasonry, the authors Michael and Salhab assert that Hughes de Payens family background was
rooted in Shiite and Sufi mysticism (p. 68). Hughes de Payens was the co founder and Grand Master
of the Knights Templar. Like the early history of the Templars, little is known about Payens since
sources about his life are certainly lacking. So we are left to wonder where Michael and Salhab has
gotten this tantalizing detail. Sufism itself seems to have strong Gnostic undertones in the belief that

This view was upheld by many including the great poet, Dante Alighieri. However, as the
Enlightenment period dawned on the great thinkers, the Templars were seen more as victims of heresy
as there was a strong Gnosticizing trend in eighteenth century thought. This was also evident in the
mystical illumination roots of the Enlightenment area in the hermetic traditions of Renaissance Neo
Platonism and Cabbalism. Indeed, many of these thinkers, including Albert Pike and Purgstall claimed
that the Templars were secretly Johannite Gnostics who also venerated Zoroaster and Manes. They
were essentially a secret society totally opposed to the Church but outwardly were completely loyal to
the Church and the Pope. Partner writes, Their spiritual independence of the Church was not based on
any low or vulgar magical powers of conjuring, but on the possession of a veritable house of
knowledge, a Temple of wisdom which was symbolized by the name of their Order (xviii). Then there
is the view that the Templars were not at war with Islam but were in fact in league with the Ismaili
sect of the Assassins, who were secret philosopher mystagogues who initiated the Templars in the
precepts of their House of Wisdom. Purgstall would wonder the same thing, when he wrote: What
wonder that those knights confederated with the Assassins and imbued with their nefarious doctrine
and, passing time in Syria, affected by the error of the Syrian sects, waging war in the Orient, indulged
the same defect conjointly for themselves in all the Oriental

Examples Of Marxism In 1984

George Orwell is a dystopian novel that focuses on the life of a man named Winston Smith. The story
follows how he is unhappy with the flawed, but powerful government of his home, Oceania (more

In this society, the Inner and Outer Party members are constantly being reminded of the Party s power
and are essentially brainwashed into thinking what the Party wants them to think and do at all times.
Things like propaganda, two minutes hate (rallies where Party members must watch a video of the
Party s enemies and express hatred towards them), telescreens which watch the people s every move,
and most importantly fear of being vaporized from their very world are what drives the citizens
towards obedience and towards support for the Party. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned
to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3).
These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things
surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. All they know
and will ever know is of the Party. As Marx predicted, the Party controls the means of production in
Oceania, so therefore they control Oceania itself ( Marxist Theory

Shame In The Puritan Era
Statistics show that public humiliation is one of the most common fears. As many admit to this fear,
many also grasp to this concept and shame one another for absurd conditions. In the Puritan Era, many
methods were used to publicly shame someone for their wrong doing. One of their common methods
was to openly tell their sin to the whole community. One of their extreme approaches was hanging
someone. This showed the public to follow the regulations of the town and do not do anything against
them. Fast forward to modern times, the scheme of humiliating one another changed drastically. For
instance, many occurrences pertain from social media. In 1994, the first site of social media was
created. From this point on, millions of different sites ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today s society, the influence of social media, politics, and the blame of women, ignite a new way
of publicly humiliating others. Initially, social media created a way to communicate with others and
receive updates through one s life. As the power of this concept grew, and the more advanced
technology created, people started to bully over the internet; called cyberbullying. Many incidents of
cyberbullying occur, which grew into the primary way of bullying. Politics represent America, and
essentially define the country. As a whole, eliminating public shame pertains to one of the goals of this
country, but if representatives start to persuade the society, fundamentally, everyone will accept the
thought of public humiliation. Lastly, the stereotypical perception of women is known as blaming
another for one s actions or their appearance. As this stands in people s minds, many are blind to the
fact that women actually receive shame for their bodies, self, and jobs more than men. The law now
participates in the action of stopping the shame, but also intervenes with the supervision of
prostitution, sex trafficking, and any illegal operations women participate in. With the influences of
social media, politics, and the two sides of women in public shaming, this concept brings forth
attention to the society itself. It calls for help in the world, to stop this humiliation and shaming of
others

  • 2. Relationship Between Diabetes And Depression Intro Throughout high school, I worked in an antenatal clinic that provided services to a number of underprivileged women during and after their pregnancies. Many women suffered from severe depression and often times social workers had to called to prevent the women from committing suicide. Common among the women, who generally suffered from a wide variety of afflictions, was diabetes. In this paper I chose to explore the relationship between diabetes and depression in pregnant women. PPD Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mild to severe mood disorder that develops in 10 20% of mothers in the U.S. annually, following birth of their baby. Women often experience anxiety, hopelessness, sadness, apathy towards newborn, mood swings, and crying spells, which can last three months to a year. These women have difficulty bonding with the baby, are withdrawn from friends and family, are irritable and have thoughts of harming self or baby or both. If untreated PPD may persist for many months. PPD affects the health of both mother and child, interfering with the development of mother child relationships. Children of depressed mothers have been shown to develop significant emotional cognitive and developmental delays. PPD is more commonly seen in teenage mothers and mothers of lower socio economic status (Kozhimannil K.B, et al.,2009), something I can attest to from my work in the clinic. PPD is now considered the most significant obstetrical complication and elevated to global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Two Theories Of Cognitive Development Two theories of cognitive development during transition from adolescence to early adulthood Cognitive development is a term that describes the growth of a person s ability to think and reason. This growth happens in stages. To understand this development from adolescence to the early adulthood, two theories are important in our understanding of this process. In this write up, the adolescence development theory called formal operations which is the last stage of Jean Piaget s stages of cognitive development and Kramer s (1983, 1989) three stages of cognitive progression beginning with absolutist reasoning marking early adulthood are summarized. For Piaget (1973), there are stages in human cognitive development, which culminates with the stage called formal operation beyond which early adulthood sets in. According to Piaget, this level of cognitive development is marked by a shift from concrete operation thinking to a capacity for abstract reasoning. At this stage the adolescence focuses less on the immediate concrete world and begins to develop and conceive abstract concepts like justice, politics, and history etc. According to Piaget, the adolescent stage begins approximately at 11 years. Adolescences are also able to more logical and scientific in solving problems. This stage is called hypothetico deductive reasoning and propositional thought or scientific approach to problem solving according to Piaget; in other words, adolescents can develop the capacity to identify situations and problem and variables that may affect the resolutions of such problem. Finally, adolescents develop the capacity for imaginary audience. They develop the capacity for observation and interpretation. By mere observation, adolescents can observe behaviors, comments, expressions and appearances and interpret their perceptions and thus make guesses about other peoples feelings. The second theory that deals with adolescence transition into early adulthood is propounded by Kramer (1983, 1989). He noted that human cognitive development takes three stages that include; absolutist, relativist and dialectical stage. According to Kramer, early adulthood begins with absolutist stage. At this stage people believe that at all times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lithium Ion Batteries For Electric Vehicle Batteries Essay Introduction A lithium ion (Li ion) battery is a type of rechargeable battery which uses a lithium ion that moves from a positive electrode (cathode) to a negative electrode (anode) during charging and vice versa during discharge. Lithium ion batteries are less environmentally damaging than batteries containing heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury, but recycling them is still far preferable to incinerating them or sending them to landfill. Lithium ion batteries are made up of one or more generating compartments called cells. Each cell is composed of three components: an anode, a cathode, and a chemical called an electrolyte in between them. Lithium ion batteries are becoming more common in portable electronic devices due to their high energy density, lack of memory effect, and high charge and discharge rate capabilities. Research and development work is ongoing to improve safety and increase capacity, charge/discharge rate, and lifetime. Demand for electric vehicle batteries is currently small, but it is expected to grow very quickly. China, Japan, South Korea, France, and the United States are the major lithium ion battery manufacturers for hybrid and electric vehicle applications. A lot of information from different sources was gathered with the purpose of comparing different Li ion batteries mechanisms, cathode and anode materials, structure and fabrication procedures, and their respective advantages and disadvantages. • 5. The Death Of An Athlete Dying Young By. Housman To an Athlete Dying Young , by A.E. Housman, is a thought provoking elegy. The poem is about the early demise of an accomplished runner. Surely, it is sad when someone dies too soon especially when there is so much to look forward to. One may ask, Is there an advantage of dying young? Well, there is! In this poem, Housman shows the silver lining to dying young during the height of one s success. The first stanza of the poem starts off in a happy mood. Housman use imagery to establish the fame and glory of a young athlete. The speaker reminisces about the time when the young athlete was coming home after he won a race. It also establishes the relationship between the athlete and the people in his town. On his way home, people gather around the market place to watch and cheer for him. To the people, he is not merely an athlete. He is their hometown hero. He is the glory of the town. The young athlete relishes in the fame as the people carry him high up on their shoulders and parade him home. But the happiness quickly changes in the second stanza. The second stanza begins with a time shift from reminiscing of the past to the present. The mood of the poem also makes a dramatic shift from happy to solemn. Today, the road all runners come/ Shoulder high we bring you home. ( Housman 5 6). Even though it is not clearly stated that the young runner died, the title of the poem makes it obvious. The road is a metaphor for death. It is a path that we are all going down. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Lying Is A Huge Part Of Our Social Game A pocket sized lie detector could only be awesome. Imagine asking someone out, and they lied about why they couldn t go, bing lie detected. Or if someone had stolen you favorite sweater, and a friend said they knew who took it bing a truth. Lie detectors have many times been attempted. But there are problems with lie detectors, not only because humans would trust a machine more than man, but also the many unknown limits to them, and that they actually aren t a necessity in our modern socie ty. For as long as humans have been, we have lied, smuggled, hidden truths and deceived in almost eve ry way. Lying is a huge part of our social game in life. And it may always be, humans lie both for own, and others sake. When I was younger, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most invented lie detectors have tested the same physical changes and things, such as blood pressure, breathing etc.. Physical changes are easiest to determine, although they some times are hardest to understand (Côté ; Navarro ; American Psychological Association). The most com monly known lie detector device is the polygraph. A machine that registers your heart rate/ blood pressure, respiration, and skin conductivity (American Psychological Association). It is the device that is closest to the description, when people think of a common lie detector . But, although the machine isn t 100% correct itself, people stilled believed in its judgement when it was first invented. Which weirdly enough makes lie detectors seem untruthful themselves. But although some lie detectors can be doubted, they have been tried several times throughout history. Lie detectors have been attempted through history, but so far technology has been the limit. There had been no such thing as an actual lie detector before the ending of the 19th century. Although there in 1878 was the Italian physiologist Angelo Mosso. (Côté). He used an instrument called a ple thysmograph, he tested difference in blood circulation and breathing patterns, but no tries in uncovering lies. • 7. Introduction To Daily Logarithmic Returns Is Done By... This study employs the adjusted price of GBP exchange rates for 12 different currencies where BNKR s investments are dominated in, during the period of January 2010 till July 2015. The total number of daily logarithmic returns of each exchange rate is 1455. The daily logarithmic return is defined as: R_t=ln*((P_t P_(t 1))/P_(t 1) ) Where P_t is the adjusted spot exchange rate at time t. The descriptive statistics summary of daily logarithmic returns is reported in Table 1. Therefore, assessing the exposure of currency risk was done by reviewing both return and risk profile for data sets. Secondly, for the assessment of currency risk s exposure, VaR method based on incorporated volatility using EWMA approach is used as the main currency risk measure. In this study, the value of VaR is calculated for each exchange rate with a confident level of 99% and a decay factor (lambda =0.94) for the next trading day in 31 of July 2015. As long as VaR is more extreme measure than standard deviation, it is naturally that VaR would be much higher than standard deviation. Since the average standard deviation of the developed markets is around 0.6% compared with the 0.71% in the devolving markets, it indicates that the Risk and VaR value in the developed markets (1.5%) is less than the developing countries (1.71%). Hence, VaR showed that investing in US and Swiss markets have the lowest currency risk in the developed markets, and investing in Pero and Mexico have the lowest one in ... Although Katarina s personality is still antagonistic in the movie, Katherine is a lot more hostile and violent in the play. Bianca pleads, I prithee, sister Kate, unite my hands (Shakespeare). In this instance, Katherine has tied up Bianca s hands because she demands her to tell her truthfully which suitor she likes the most. Bianca is pleading to be untied but since Bianca did not reply with the answer she wanted to hear, Katherine hits Bianca. In the film Katarina never strikes her sister or anyone else to cause harm. It is also the same case with Pettruchio in the play; he is portrayed as even more belligerent compared to Katherine. He also behaves that way towards herwhen he tries to control her by starving her and depriving her sleep. Nonetheless, Patrick seems to be gentler with Katarina and even considerate of her well being. For example, when Katarina becomes intoxicated at a party, Patrick takes care of her until she gets better and takes her home.In addition, there is a huge time gap between the movie and the play, which lead to completely different cultures. The play is based of the 1590 s while the movie is based on the late 1990 s almost borderline 2000 s since it was made in 1999. An obvious difference that can be seen is the language that is being used in the play; it is still English but a much older version. The English being used in Shakespeare play is much more formal and less direct than the one in the movie, which has more cursing and openness to topics such as sex. The type of fashion beingdescribed in the play is nothing alike to the one being used in the film. Petruchio describes the clothing that they will wear when they return to Katherine s house, with silken coats and caps...with ruffs and cuffs and farthingales... (Shakespeare). In the film, the ... • 11. The Scientific Management And The Human Relations Theories This essay will be evaluating both the Scientific management and the Human relations theories in today s management of organisations. Scientific management theory was founded and published by Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1909 where he proposed that productivity can be increased by augmenting and simplifying workloads which then improves economic efficiency (Economist, 2009). On the other hand, Human relations theories focuses on personal factors and suggests that motivation and leadership are the features that help encourage workers to work productively (Dininni, 2017). For Scientific Management Theory, one of Taylor s four principles was the rule of thumb where managers should think and use scientific method to increase production by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As opposed to Taylor s scientific theory, human relations theory value the workers which leads to increased motivation and productivity (Bianca, 2017). An example of this would be a private sector, Google. Instead of adopting Taylor s style where there are strict rules, Google allows freedom for the workers by letting them work when they want and allowing customisation of their own surroundings (Garguilo, 2011). This gives them their personal freedom which in turn increases motivation to work. Therefore, this suggests that even though Taylor diminished social factors, human relations theory gives evidence that social factors such as freedom does affect productivity in today s management. Taylor suggested a piecework pay system where workers are payed according to their productivity. Therefore, a worker with high productivity gets higher wages than those with less productivity. This results in the motivation of the employees to work at an efficient rate which will mean greater productivity and higher pay (Lawler, 2000). In addition, the customers are benefitted as enhanced productivity will lead to advanced service or additional products created. • 12. The Takers And The Leavers By Daniel Quinn The story begins with Daniel Quinn writing about a day in his life, until he comes upon an absurd advertisement in the personals section of the newspaper: TEACHER seeks pupil. Must have an earnest desire to save the world. Apply in person. Suspicious, Quinn investigates this advertisement with intentions of exposing fraud. Instead, he discovers Ishmael in Room 105 of a undistinguished office building. Sitting calmly, Ishmael gently nibbled on a slender branch. Appalled, Quinn stumbled towards the chair. Ishmael and Quinn gazed into each other s eyes, and much to his disgruntlement, the glowing eyes spoke to him. Nodding his head to the unspoken question, Ishmael quietly said, I am the teacher. Ishmael explains that Quinn is part of a culture, that results in him being taught certain stories between the relationships of man, the world, and the Gods. These explanations will be made clearer to the pupil by being assisted in recognizing why the stories are misleading. Ishmael s goal will show the narrator that human history comes from two groups, the Takers and the Leavers. These groups legislate two completely different stories about man, the world, and the Gods. Takers are the humans who developed agriculture and civilization, who still dominate on Earth today. The Leavers, in contradiction, are those who don t adopt agricultural practices and disregard the benefits of civilization. In lessons, Ishmael asks Quinn to explain other stories that the Takers imagine. The pupil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Speaking With Claire I Learned That The Line Item Budget speaking with Claire I learned that the Line Item budget that the city and the police department utilize is a very common budget strategy that many city governments utilize because of its ease of use. The Line Item budget is a budget in which the individual financial statement items are grouped together by cost centers or Departments. This budget process shows the comparison between the financial data gathered for the past budgeting periods and creates a projected figure for the current or future budgeting period. This thinking may eliminate the opportunity to take an in depth look at each Line Item to determine if the proposed expenditure is truly necessary or if the available funds could be allocated more efficiently. Another potential pitfall is that a Line Item budget may result in departments unnecessarily spending unused funds toward the end of the fiscal year. This mentality is the concept of use it or lose it. This mentality drives Department heads to feel that if they have too much money left over at the end of the year, their budget could be drastically cut in the upcoming year. Oftentimes in Line Item budgeting, there is a tendency to budget each miniscule expense in an attempt to control costs. An example of this would be when department heads track the cost of office stationery separately from expenditures for copy paper and mailing envelopes. This thinking is wrong as the Line Item of office supplies should cover these items. The final disadvantage I noted within the Line Item budget is the tendency for department managers to feel authorized to operate with the same level of funding they had in previous years. Due to this mentality, department divisions might compete with each for a larger share of the budget, instead of looking at what is best for the department as a whole. Budget Timeline for the ... Today, most dentist continue to use the limited 2D plaster models that only show the teeth and gums from a lateral position showing only the outside and the inside of the mouth. Plaster models tend to only show the visible, apparent problems that may be wrong with a patient but cannot effectively showcase the many other possibilities that may be causing a patient to have malocclusions and misalignments of the jaw. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy of liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America should have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned with this infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom to homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being that they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire the religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated. Because of the support that the government gives public schools using tax dollars and government subsidies, parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools, secular private schools, or even charter schools. Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents to put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Michael And Salhab s The Knights Templar In the book The Knights Templar of the Middle East, The Hidden History of the Islamic Roots of Freemasonry, the authors Michael and Salhab assert that Hughes de Payens family background was rooted in Shiite and Sufi mysticism (p. 68). Hughes de Payens was the co founder and Grand Master of the Knights Templar. Like the early history of the Templars, little is known about Payens since sources about his life are certainly lacking. So we are left to wonder where Michael and Salhab has gotten this tantalizing detail. Sufism itself seems to have strong Gnostic undertones in the belief that Muslim seeker is striving for hidden, divine knowledge and love through direct personal revelation from God (or Allah), without the need for a priest, vicarious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This view was upheld by many including the great poet, Dante Alighieri. However, as the Enlightenment period dawned on the great thinkers, the Templars were seen more as victims of heresy as there was a strong Gnosticizing trend in eighteenth century thought. This was also evident in the mystical illumination roots of the Enlightenment area in the hermetic traditions of Renaissance Neo Platonism and Cabbalism. Indeed, many of these thinkers, including Albert Pike and Purgstall claimed that the Templars were secretly Johannite Gnostics who also venerated Zoroaster and Manes. They were essentially a secret society totally opposed to the Church but outwardly were completely loyal to the Church and the Pope. Partner writes, Their spiritual independence of the Church was not based on any low or vulgar magical powers of conjuring, but on the possession of a veritable house of knowledge, a Temple of wisdom which was symbolized by the name of their Order (xviii). Then there is the view that the Templars were not at war with Islam but were in fact in league with the Ismaili sect of the Assassins, who were secret philosopher mystagogues who initiated the Templars in the precepts of their House of Wisdom. Purgstall would wonder the same thing, when he wrote: What wonder that those knights confederated with the Assassins and imbued with their nefarious doctrine and, passing time in Syria, affected by the error of the Syrian sects, waging war in the Orient, indulged the same defect conjointly for themselves in all the Oriental ... • 39. Examples Of Marxism In 1984 Analyzing 1984 by George Orwell using Marxist Theory Marxist Theory focuses on the idea that whoever controls the means of production in a society controls the society and the means of production would be placed with the hands of the masses ( Marxist Theory 2). Karl Marx wrote and believed that literature was a reflection of culture and culture was affected by literature (2). 1984 by George Orwell is a dystopian novel that focuses on the life of a man named Winston Smith. The story follows how he is unhappy with the flawed, but powerful government of his home, Oceania (more specifically Airstrip 1, London) and his quest to understand and overthrow it. Marxist Theory can be seen in the government s control over the Party members, the government s control over the Proles, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this society, the Inner and Outer Party members are constantly being reminded of the Party s power and are essentially brainwashed into thinking what the Party wants them to think and do at all times. Things like propaganda, two minutes hate (rallies where Party members must watch a video of the Party s enemies and express hatred towards them), telescreens which watch the people s every move, and most importantly fear of being vaporized from their very world are what drives the citizens towards obedience and towards support for the Party. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3). These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. All they know and will ever know is of the Party. As Marx predicted, the Party controls the means of production in Oceania, so therefore they control Oceania itself ( Marxist Theory ... One of their common methods was to openly tell their sin to the whole community. One of their extreme approaches was hanging someone. This showed the public to follow the regulations of the town and do not do anything against them. Fast forward to modern times, the scheme of humiliating one another changed drastically. For instance, many occurrences pertain from social media. In 1994, the first site of social media was created. From this point on, millions of different sites ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In today s society, the influence of social media, politics, and the blame of women, ignite a new way of publicly humiliating others. Initially, social media created a way to communicate with others and receive updates through one s life. As the power of this concept grew, and the more advanced technology created, people started to bully over the internet; called cyberbullying. Many incidents of cyberbullying occur, which grew into the primary way of bullying. Politics represent America, and essentially define the country. As a whole, eliminating public shame pertains to one of the goals of this country, but if representatives start to persuade the society, fundamentally, everyone will accept the thought of public humiliation. Lastly, the stereotypical perception of women is known as blaming another for one s actions or their appearance. As this stands in people s minds, many are blind to the fact that women actually receive shame for their bodies, self, and jobs more than men. The law now participates in the action of stopping the shame, but also intervenes with the supervision of prostitution, sex trafficking, and any illegal operations women participate in. With the influences of social media, politics, and the two sides of women in public shaming, this concept brings forth attention to the society itself.
