6. HOW TO APPLY

1. Determine which benefit best suits you by using the GI Bill Road Map for Success.
2. Apply for your benefits by using the Veterans Online Application.
3. Submit a copy of DD-214 or if in Reserves submit a copy of Notice of Basic Eligibility
(DD-2384) from Reserve Unit Officer.
4. Submit a copy of Certificate of Eligibility letter, your current Concise Class Schedule,
and a completed SUNY Broome Veterans Educational Benefits Request Form to the
Veterans and Military Affairs Office.
5. Transferring Veterans must submit a VA form 22-1995. Transferring dependents must
also submit a VA form 22-5495.
6. It is also recommended that a federal student aid application.

• NOTICE: Every subsequent semester attended at SUNY Broome Community College,
applicants must return to the Veteran and Military Office to activate their benefits as soon as
classes are registered for. The SUNY Broome Veterans Educational Benefits Request Form
must be completed and submitted along with a copy of the Concise Student Schedule.
Veteran and Military Office is located in the Student Services Building, Room 102.
• MONTHLY VERIFICATION: Students who are under Chapter 30, 1606, and 1607 are
responsible to notify the VA on the last day of each month.
