VETERANS AND MILITARY AFFAIRS
SUNY Broome is approved by the Department ofVeterans Affairs (VA) as a
training facility for veterans and other eligible students.
TheVeterans & Military Affairs Office currently coordinates services for more than
110 veterans who are attending classes and receiving veteran’s education
benefits; referrals for counseling for financial, vocational and academic problems;
veterans work-study job information; and important information about resources
available to them at the college.
This office acts as a direct liaison between SUNY Broome Community College and
theVeterans Administration Regional Office in Buffalo regarding payment of
benefits.
3. VETERAN’S EDUCATION BENEFITS
It is the responsibility of the U.S. Department ofVeterans Affairs to approve
applications and to make decisions regarding payment, issuance of checks,
and eligibility.

5. HOWTO APPLY
FORVA EDUCATION BENEFITS
Determine which benefit is best for you: Use the GI Bill® Road Map for Success or call theVA at 1-
888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551).
Apply for yourVeterans Education Benefits through theVA by using the Veterans OnlineApplication.
Submit a copy of DD-214 (Member Copy 4), or if drilling with the Reserve or Guard, submit a copy of
Notice of Basic Eligibility (Form: DD-2384) from Reserve or Guard Unit Officer.
Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility letter, copy of your current Concise Class Schedule and
a completed SUNY BroomeVeterans Educational Benefits Request Form (pdf)to theVeterans &
Military Affairs Office located in the Student Services Building, Room 102.
TransferringVeterans (previously received MGIB from another school) must submitVA form 22-
1995.
Transferring dependents ofVeterans (previously received MGIB from another school) must also
submitVA form 22-5495.
It is recommended that you apply for federal student aid by completing a Free Application for
Federal Student Aid at fafsa.gov. For SUNY BCC to receive your application data you must include
our school code, 002862, as one of the schools you plan to attend.
