The document discusses two potential photography projects focused on identity and culture.
The first project, titled "Imperfections", explores celebrating natural flaws and textures in the human body through close-up portraits and still life photos that emphasize pores, freckles, scars and fingerprints. It suggests shooting techniques like macro lenses, low key lighting and minimal post-processing to highlight imperfections.
The second project, titled "Colour", examines using color in photos to communicate mood, personality and spirituality by researching subjects' aura colors and lighting portraits with gels to set an atmosphere. It proposes shooting mid and close-up shots along with low key lighting and still life photos incorporating objects representing the subject's personality.

2. IDEA 1: IMPERFECTIONS
TODAYS SOCIETY: uprising in appreciation of flaws. Models appear
unique and are not generic.
SKIN: scars show a person’s experience and what they’ve been through.
Sun spots and freckles are individual to every person. FINGERPRINTS.
Pores also add character, showing people as what they truly look like
(rebelling against airbrushing).
IMPERFECTIONS MAKE YOU WHO YOU ARE!
3. IMPERFECTIONS
TEXTURE:
skin, messy
hair, scars,
pores,
freckles.
SHOTS: extreme close ups,
macro lens?, front shot/
side shot
LIGHTING: low key/high key- beauty dish/grid,
white back drop, clean appearance to emphasize
texture
PHOTOSHOP: decrease
highlights to bring out
imperfections, add
contrast, BLACK AND
WHITE, SHARPENING STILL LIFE:
Make mold of
scar out of latex/
FINGERPRINT
7. IDEA 2: COLOUR
Colour is extremely important when communicating an atmosphere to
an audience through photography. Colours are sensational, resulting in
thrilling the viewer of the image. Through colour you can communicate
personality, mood and the overall presence of the subject.
Colour is also linked to spirituality, a topic in which would be interesting
to explore in photography.
8. COLOUR
AURAS: research
into auras and their
meaning. Interview
models to find their
aura.
SHOTS: mid shots/ close
ups! Focus on lighting
LIGHTING: LOW KEY! Use gels to communicate
colour. USE LIGHTING TO CREATE ATMOSPHERE –
depending on which colour.
PHOTOSHOP: create
softer appearance.
STILL LIFE:
Use low key light
and gels . Pick
objects that
represent the
personality in
which the colour
connotes.
EXPERIMENTATION:
use materials to try
and mimic a
dreamlike
atmosphere (e.g.:
Vaseline on the lens).
12. Chosen idea: imperfections
I have chosen to go with this project as it interests me more and I feel
much more inspired. I think that although the portraits will be straight
forward, the still life will be fun to compose and create in order to
produce the most successful print.
Though I like the colour idea, I feel like the concept is done a lot and in
order to produce images that I am completely happy with, id have to
play around a lot and expand on my ideas over a larger period of time.
This is something I would like to revisit in my studies.
