Student Comments … on using digital tools for learning
Using a wiki 7S and Mrs Young on why we like our Wiki and how it helps us learn…. Wikispaces works well - it is very easy to set up and seems fairly easy for students to learn how to use. Mrs Young
Student Comments… Rachel says: I think Wikispaces is a great thing to have, we can collaborate and talk to each other at the same time as learning and working eg.The Algebra Page.
Student Comments… Emily says: I love our wikispaces! We can see what other people think about Maths so it helps us to learn. It has lots of brilliant stuff on here (e.g. PLTS). You can not only contribute but also see what other people have done, and check them.
Student Comments… Emma says: I find it hard to say what I found easy and what I found hard so it helps to read other peoples learning journals because often I go 'Yes I agree with that'.
Student Comments… Adelya says: I totally agree with Emma as reading people's ideas can be very helpful, however I wouldn't copy because people often have have different ideas, strengths and weaknesses.
Student Comments… Niamh says: I Love Wiki because I can use it so easily and I can show friends how I am doing with work. Also Mrs young can see my work easily and give me direct feedback on it.
Student Comments… The wiki is such a great idea. It is fun, yet educational at exactly the same time. Not only are we learning IT skills but also team working and independent enquiring. I think that this site will really help us in the future. Also I agree with Niamh, it is really easy to keep in contact with Mrs Young.
Student Comments… Josey says: Wikis are great for collaborating with other people especially if we are working on group projects. They are also great for talking to our teacher about work we don't understand or need help with. Wikis are also brilliant for doing collaborative homework on.
Revision You have created a revision entry in your learning journal. Is that helpful or not? Please explain.
Student Comments… Yes it is because it can really help you gather your thoughts.
Student Comments… It is helpful because it alerts you to what you have and haven't done and makes you go over your revision.
Student Comments… Yes, because I can keep track of what I am doing to revise and how and can think about how this helped me to learn what I set out to do and it is good as you can keep a track record of what you have done.
Student Comments… I think it is quite helpful because then you know exactly how you have revised and reflect on what are the best ways to revise and the revision tips that work well. You could also share what you have been doing with your other classmates.
Student Comments… You might think of something that is a good idea to help you with revision, so you just type it in so you don't forget it. Then you can look back and remember. Also, others will see what you have written in your Learning Journal, so they might get ideas about how to revise. The teacher can also make sure that you are revising enough.
Student Comments… I think it is useful because it motivates you to do more revision in different ways and it gives others ideas of different revision techniques as well.
Student Comments… I sometimes find it helpful, to make us really think about what we have been revising and making sure we know and feel confident with all subjects. However, sometimes I feel that I didn't really state what I was revising, more like how I am feeling about the exam.
Revision Is it helpful to read other students' journal entries? Please explain.
Student Comments… Yes it is because you can see what helps other students to revise and you can try them out to see if they work for you.
Student Comments… Yes it is because other people have revised in different ways from me so I might be able to use some of their methods to help me revise quicker and get through it all before the exams.
Student Comments… Yes, it is very helpful! You may get ideas from them about how you can revise. For instance, they might have said: 'I am going to put sticky notes around the house with key words and definitions on them‘ And you'll think: That's a good idea. I've never done that before. I'll try it out!
Student Comments… It's helpful to me because I can compare what I've done with others and use their links and posters.
Revision Do you think using technology helps your learning? If so, how? What can technology do that pencil and paper can't?
Student Comments… Technology makes it easier to share with other people.
Student Comments… I think it helps because you can communicate with others without being right next to them. I also like it because you can play games that help you revise and make cool mind maps to stick in my bedroom.
Student Comments… Some times it helps like when you want to make Wordles or Storybirds but I think I prefer textbooks because they teach you each subject specifically.
Student Comments… I think that is does. This is because there are lots of online resources that can be used. Things such as Storybird help if you have a photographic memory as you use pictures to link with the words.
Student Comments… Yes, using the internet you can explore other different ways of learning that may stay in your mind for longer as it is more fun and interactive and a change of revision techniques can help.
Student Comments… Yes, I think that using technology is just as good as using paper and pen because you can do different things using technology - like using a website and collaborating with an online study buddy.
Student Comments… Technology can let you see other peoples thoughts and I find doing revision on the computer more efficient.
Student Comments… I feel that I am able to research much more on the web if I am unsure of any definitions or topics. Pencils and paper restrict you, I like to use all the useful school websites we have now!
