Stroke is a major health issue in India, with prevalence rates ranging from 84-262 per 100,000 people in rural areas to 334-424 per 100,000 in urban areas. The incidence of stroke is projected to rise from 89 per 100,000 people in 2005 to 98 per 100,000 in 2030. Stroke is the third most common cause of death in India after cancer and ischemic heart disease. Prevention is best achieved by living a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise, not smoking, and moderating alcohol. Risk factors include increasing age, male sex, family history, and conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.

conducted in the department of Neurology at a multispecialty hospital. After receiving the official approval, the
study was conducted for a period of eight months from December 2013 to August 2014. A total of 278 cases with
Neurological disorders were found, of which 117(42 %) patients were with ischemic stroke. Hypertension (59%)
and Diabetes (53%) were the major co-morbid conditions found. The Health related quality of life of the
patients was assessed by direct interviewing of individual patients with a stroke specific questionnaire. The
Health related quality of life of the patients was assessed by direct interviewing of individual patients with a
stroke specific questionnaire. Quality of life assessments are done by various methods like taking the floor and
ceiling effects of the scores, average score calculation etc. Assessment of the floor and ceiling effect showed the
potential for floor effects in the most difficult domain(strength) and the possibility of a ceiling effect in the
communication domain. Assessment of stroke severity is done by taking the mean and SD of the individual domains

A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Self Admin...ijtsrd
Diabetes mellitus is characterized by abnormally high levels of sugar glucose in the blood. When the amount of glucose in the blood increases, e.g., after a meal, it triggers the release of the hormone insulin from the pancreas. Insulin stimulates muscle and fat cells to remove glucose from the blood and stimulates the liver to metabolize glucose, causing the blood sugar level to decrease to normal levels. In people with diabetes, blood sugar levels remain high. This may be because insulin is not being produced at all, is not made at sufficient levels, or is not as effective as it should be. The most common forms of diabetes are type 1 diabetes 5 , which is an autoimmune disorder, and type 2 diabetes 95 , which is associated with obesity. Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that occurs in pregnancy, and other forms of diabetes are very rare and are caused by a single gene mutation. For many years, scientists have been searching for clues in our genetic makeup that may explain why some people are more likely to get diabetes than others are. The Genetic Landscape of Diabetes introduces some of the genes that have been suggested to play a role in the development of diabetes. Archana | G. Microalbuminuria in Saudi Adults with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus_Crimson Publis...CrimsonPublishersIOD
Background: Diabetes mellitus is among the most common chronic non-communicable diseases. The development of microalbuminuria in type 1 diabetes increases the risk for renal and cardiovascular disease.
Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted at the Primary Health Care Clinics at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 334 Saudi with type 1 diabetes were randomly selected.
Results: Total of 334 patients with T2DM included in this study; 102 (30.5%) male and 232 (69.5%) female with mean age 25.8±3.4. MA was present in 99 (29.6%). MA was not significantly more prevalent in female (69.4%) with female predominance (sex ratio male: female) 1:2.3. HTN with MA was significantly more prevalent in 51(51.5%) of MA group with odd ratio 1.7 (1.2-2.4), p=0.001 with no siginificant difference between both gender. Patients with MA have significant higher HbA1c than patients with normal buminuria and there was a significant difference between gender (p< 0.0001) and when compared to HbA1c groups (p=0.002).
Conclusion: The frequency of microalbuminuria in patients with type 1 diabetes in this study is high. It is mandatory to have adequate diagnostic, therapeutic and educational resources in addition to competent physicians who can manage microalbuminuria in diabetic patients by using a continuing, comprehensive and coordinated approach.
Angina Pectoris Pharmacological and Acupuncture Therapyijtsrd
Angina is the most common symptom of ischemic heart disease IHD , it occurs when the heart muscle doesn’t get enough blood as it needs. This usually happen when one or more of the heart arteries is narrowed or blocked, also called ischemia. Which is the major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Approximately 9.8 million patients in the USA have symptoms of angina, through its treatment is challenging. This activity describes the evaluation of management of angina and reviews the role of the health care team improving care for the patients with this condition. It is a common presenting symptom typically, chest pain among patient with coronary artery disease CAD .The atherosclerosis is the main cause of coronary artery obstruction. The pain is typically sever and crushing, and it is characterised by a feeling of squeezing, pressure, heaviness, tightness, or pain in the chest. It can be sudden or repeatedly over a time. Depending on severity, it can be treated by lifestyle changes, especially smoking cessation and regular exercise, medication, angioplasty or surgery and acupuncture therapy can also reduce the symptoms and frequency of angina pain intensity. Angina can accompany or be a precursor or a heart attack. Other cause include abnormal heart rhythms, anaemia, and heart failure. Cardiovascular Diseases among Agro-Allied Company Workers in Nigeria: A Case ...Premier Publishers
Mortality arising from cardiovascular diseases among the workforce in developing countries has been reported to be about twice as high as the mortality in developed countries and tends to occur much earlier than in the developed countries. A nested case-control study design was employed. The mean age of the respondents was 34 ± 9.7 years. The respondents were mostly males (90.6%), 65.1% were married and 83.1% were of the Yoruba ethnicity. Majority of the respondents (67.3%) were Christians and 83.7% had secondary education and above. Age, marital status, salary grade and religion were statistically associated with CVD status (p < 0.05). Being an office worker, earning the lowest income, being less than 50 years of age were significant predictors of CVD risk factors (p<0.05). Educational and behavioural intervention need to be implemented to encourage adoption of healthy lifestyle so as to reduce the cardiovascular risk factors among workers.
ABSTRACT: Evaluation of morbidity profile among elderly people will help in the application of intervention to improve the health status of elderly. Communicable diseases do not show a fixed pattern of change with the age of man. However,non-communicable diseases like hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus ,musculoskeletal disorders, refractive errors, etc and their related complications become more prevalent in the elderly. Research showed that average number of morbidities per person was 2.77 among the elderly people of rural India. Elderly people are suffering from various physical, mental ,social and economical problems. It is essential to havegeriatric units with specialized professionals in the health care centres. Regular health check-up camps should be organized at old age homes. Insurance scheme should be implemented. Health problems of elderly should be tackled with psycho-social intervention. The present study was done to review the literature on geriatric morbidity. KEY WORDS: morbidity, geriatrics, review

Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.
New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

2. STROKE IN INDIA
•Prevalence: 84-262/100,000 in rural and 334-424/100,000 in urban
areas.(WHO 2008)
• Incidence: 89/100,000 in 2005, projected to 91/100,000 in 2015
and 98/100,000 in 2030. (Ezzati et al 2004)
• Accounted for 0.9% to 4.5% of total medical admissions and
9.2%-30% of admission to neurological wards. ( Bharucha +
Kuruvilla 1998)
3. PREVENTION
•The best way to prevent a stroke is to address the underlying
causes. This is best done by living healthily, which means:>
•Eating a healthy diet
• Maintaining a healthy weight
•Exercise regularly
• Not smoking
•Avoiding alcohol or moderating consumption.
4. EPIDEMIOLOGY

ischemic heart disease.
•Most common cause of severe physical disability
•Prevalence of stroke in India is about 1.54 per 1000
•Death rate is about 0.6 per 1000
•Incidence and prevalence of stroke is on the rise due to
increasing adoption of unhealthy lifestyle & an increasing
life expectancy
5. Non-modifiable risk factors
•Age:- The risk of stroke increases with age- Stroke risk increased by 9% /y
in men and 10%/y in women (Data from 8 European countries) -The risk of
ischemic stroke and ICH doubles for each successive decade after age 55
•Sex:generally, M>F
•Race:Blacks 38% > whites
•Family history of stroke increases risk by ~ 30%• Father x 2.4, mother x
1.4
•Low birth weight- The odds of stroke in 2500g > 2 x that of 4000 g
6. Stroke Risk Factors
•Risk factors = attributes or exposures associated with increased
probability of disease but are not necessarily causal-
• They directly increase disease probability and if absent or removed
reduce disease probability
•.Stroke risk factors-
• Non-modifiable-
• Modifiable
