The 5 Team Leadership Principles for Project SuccessDr. Thomas Juli
We all need and thrive for successful projects. But what does it take to get there? There is no doubt that good project management is a critical success factor. But is it really sufficient? The author doesn’t think so. He claims that effective project management needs to have a solid foundation in project leadership AND team work. It takes a performing team to run a project successfully and it takes effective leadership to empower the team to do so. This is why team building is a decisive factor for project success.
Based on his experience, having managed projects of all sizes, from a few to 24,000 person days effort, in various industries, Thomas Juli identifies the five team leadership principles that build a foundation for effective team building. They include building a common project vision, nurturing team collaboration, cultivating team performance, promoting team learning and ensuring team delivery. These five principles encompass the core of effective leadership in a team. The lecture will present these five principles of effective project leadership and show how they can help build and manage a performing and winning team.

Performance improvement initiatives – whether under the banner of Six Sigma, Lean or any other methodology label – are fragile. Not all of them survive. Not all of them realize their potential. In fact, if there’s one thing of which we can all be certain, it is that initiatives don’t last - at least, not as
initiatives. They either become embedded into the standard set of management practices within the company or they die.

0905 The CEO Challenge Creating A Culture Of Growth, Innovation & LeadershipAlvin Chua
This presentation will take us through what the CEO can do to develop a culture of growth innovation and leadership; how to effectively align the CEO with their team and now to leverage best practices in the development of a culture based on growth, innovation and leadership.
In this presentation, we are going to focus on creating and developing a growth, innovation and leadership culture. Of course creating a growth culture always necessitates change, so Warren Parry from Change Track Research will outline the key success factors involved in achieving high performance change, and will highlight common myths that cause confusion and prevent managers from achieving their targets.
Translating a Strategy into Action with Strategic Doing Ed Morrison
Strategic doing is a flexible framework that provides a powerful way to translate a strategy into action. Here's an example.
The AIM2WIN region across Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa used strategic doing to help civic leaders launch their strategy. We designed the strategic doing workshop to translate their strategy documents -- developed through a series of reports -- into a set of pragmatic strategic action plans.
The Business Execution Gap
Companies execute their strategy in fits and starts, and few companies are
good at aligning their current activities to their long term strategic priorities
- 90% of strategies fail due to poor execution (HBR):
• Only 27% of employees have access to their company strategic plan.
•Only 5% of employees understand their company strategy.
• 92% of organizations do not measure Key Performance Indicators
This presentation explains the difference between leadership development and management development with strong evidence why it matters and how this can drive business performance. Also some practical guidelines on how to develop leadership capability.
Ian Berry - describe your strategy in six wordsIan Berry
Most strategies fail to get executed because the people charged with execution don't buy the strategy or don't understand it. Changing this will revolutionize your business.

This presentation outlines our process in researching and creating a management dashboard for the emergency department at Halifax Helath. The goal was to identify a Halifax Health user who would benefit from a management dashboard (showing key performance indicators, key result indicators, and a dashboard related to learning and innovation) related to their experiences within a chaotic emergency department. The design team's assumptions were to create a dashboard for the CEO of the hospital, but were quickly proven otherwise as we realized the real needs of key players working within the emergency room.
