STORY UNIT PLAN

ANALYZING LEARNER
 My students are a first grade class of Caucasian,
African American, and Asian American background.
I have 8 boys and 12 girls. Learning styles are
mainly hands on and also visual.
 Objective:This week, my students will be able to
create their own short story by the end of the week
with 95% accuracy by: doing activities, reviewing
basics, and group work.
WHAT MAKES A STORY?
 A story needs four things to be considered a story.
So for this week, my students will break down each
step for one day, then composing their own at the
end of the week.
 Character.
 Setting.
 Problem.
 Solution.
CHARACTER
 Characters are the people, animals, or things that
are apart of the story.
 For Monday, the students will be doing a reading
activity.
 The activity will consist of, myself reading to them
out loud and allowing them to raise their hand every
time they hear one of the characters to better
enforce the definition.
SETTING
 The setting is where and when the story takes
place.
 For Tuesday, the students will be working in small
groups to work on this skill.
 The small groups will all choose a setting that has
meaning to them and draw it out and present it to
the class. By doing this, they will also explain why
their drawing is a setting.
PROBLEMS
 The problems in the story are something that
causes trouble for the characters.
 For Wednesday, the students will be acting out a
short story in small groups and allowing their peers
to select which actor or event they believe is the
problem in the story.
SOLUTION
 The solution is how the characters solve the
problem that is happening in the story.
 For Thursday, the students will be using problem
solving skills to recreate the ending of a story of
their choosing.
WRITE YOUR OWN
 On the last day being Friday, the students will be
working independently to create their own flip book
short story. They will be doing their own art for their
books, and they will continue working on their story
over the weekend if needed.
