Weekly Lesson Evaluations prompt sheet
Week beginning: 25th
–
29th
April 2016
Targets from last evaluations:
 Consider carefully the form of writing
you are asking the students to write
 Use different ways of reading to
promote ‘a love of reading’
Reflective Practice: how successful were the lessons?
Year 7
Students were focusing on the comparison of Theseus and the Minotaur and
the comparison that this has with Katniss Everdeen. After reading chapter 2,
they had to discuss the similarities and differences between Theseus and the
Minotaur and Katniss. I felt that this exercise was extremely important as it
allowed students to think about the historical implications. Further to this, they
were able to think what attributes they want their own tribute to have. I felt that
this lead in task worked well, and they were extremely engaged with
designing their own tributes.
Year 8
25th
April 2016 – Absent
I was absent because I attended the Creativity training day at Goldsmiths.
28th
April 2016
This lesson was very interactive in that they were reading a primary source –
a newspaper to complete the tasks that I had set. I felt that it was extremely
enjoyable and that it worked well. However, there were some problems with
behaviour which were mitigated. I feel that group work can always become a
problem in terms of behaviour.
29th
April 2016
I continued to focus on the newspaper article, but I started to relate it to Act
Three Scene One, the fight scene so that I could prepare students for
assessment. I found it extremely beneficial to give students a sheet of the
main events that happen in Act Three Scene One so that it would jog their
memory. I also gave students a model which helped massively to their
understanding and how to write a newspaper article and reinforced what they
know.
Year 9
25th
April 2016 – Absent
I was absent because I attended the Creativity training day at Goldsmiths.
26th
April 2016 – Assessment Preparation
This lesson focused on preparing students for an assessment on Gerald &
Sheila, and I took an unconventional approach. I used a roleplay strategy to
get the students to think deeper about the characters of Gerald & Sheila. I felt
that it worked extremely well, as these students were able to empathise with
the characters on a humanistic level, and it engaged with them as they seem
to be kinesthetic learners.
29th
April 2016
Students wrote their assessments on Gerald & Sheila in this lesson.
Action Points
 Set up tasks, making the expectations clear at the start
