Lesson Cycle
               Power Up: Brief learning activity that will be presented at the beginning of each lesson.
               Monday –Thursday-As a Daily Oral Language activity, students will edit two                       MATERIALS
               incorrect sentences that will be written on the board. Once they are done
               students will check each other’s papers, and record the grade on the DOL
               tracker.
               Friday- Students will write a reflection to a current events topic in their journal.
               Content Focus/Engage: Teacher explains the purpose and relevancy of the
               lesson.
               Monday- Powerpoint that will emphasize plot structure and all of its elements.              *Rikki-Tikki- Tavi story

               then complete a graphic organizer (Diagramming That Works. pg 325) that
               helps us to clearly label the parts of a story.
               Independent Practice/You Do: Students work independently or in small groups.
               Wednesday- Students will work in groups of 4. Each group will be given a
               grading rubric, and a short story or passage and asked to read it. Then using
               markers, colored pencils, scissors, and chart paper, students will create their
               own graphic organizer that includes all the parts of a plot. They will then
               present it to the class and I will grade them on it using the rubric.
               Thursday-Word Wall vocabulary introduction and charades game.



               Closure: Teacher “wraps” up the lesson.
               Monday-Thursday- popcorn or cold call strategy review of the day’s key
               concepts.
               Friday- D.E.A.R- Drop everything and read
               Assessment
               Monday-Thursday- Exit Tickets- to check for understanding of parts of a plot.
               Friday- Story Plot Assessment and Review
