There are 6 types of stitches used in garment construction:
1. Chain stitch (Class 100) which is elastic and thicker than lock stitch, used for hemming.
2. Hand stitch (Class 200) which is produced from a single thread passing through fabric, used for costly dresses.
3. Lock stitch (Class 300) which has strength and same appearance on both sides, used for underwear.
4. Multi thread stitch (Class 400) which has a lock stitch appearance top side and double chain effect bottom side, used for elastic waistbands.
5. Over edge stitch (Class 500) which has threads passing around the fabric edge, used for edge neatening of knits.
