Similarities Between World Bank And Imf
World Bank and IMF
The birth of World Bank and IMF can be traced to the 1944 Bretton Wood meeting in US which
brought over 700 delegates from 44 countries together to establish a framework for a global system of
financial and monetary management to prevent a repeat of the Great Depression of 1930s (Moyo,
2009, p. 10). Three organizations were founded to achieve this goal: International Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and
International Trade Organization.
World Bank was mandated to help in reconstruction of Europe after the devastation of Second World
War while IMF was intended to improve economic status of countries through applying pressure on
them to carry out economic reforms that would increase expenditure, reduce taxes, and lower interest
rates in order to stimulate growth (Stiglitz, 2002; Mudida, 2003). They have both evolved to become
leading international lenders. They are also at the front line in campaign for trade liberalization across
the globe.
Since 1960s IMF and World Bank have proposed economic frameworks for the developing countries.
These frameworks followed from the great success in the reconstruction of Europe through the
Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan was designed by United States and involved giving of aid to
European countries for the purpose of reconstruction. It was a great success.
Decolonization of many countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia in the 1960s was followed by aid

The Role Of Resistance Groups In The Holocaust
The Jews started to refuse being deported and were told by their resistance groups it was better get
shot then to go to Treblinka. The groups believed it was better to fight for your life then to wait and
hope you make it out of the camps. Those that tried to resist against the SS were usually tracked down
and either executed or sent to the death camps anyway. On January 9, 1943 Himmler head of the SS
police called for a deportation of over eight thousand people. On the third day, the Jewish attacked the
Germans from the building s windows. On January 18, 1943 the Germans came to round up Jews but
this time Jews were hidden in bunkers and refused to move. Twelve fighters from the ZOB spaced
themselves out with pistols and shot some of the

Rip Van Winkle s Embodiment Of Freedom
Rip Van Winkle is the very embodiment of freedom, a very unsightly version of freedom but freedom
nonetheless. Running through the story, it is learned that Rip Van Winkle is a lazy and unproductive
member of society. He doesn t do any beneficial work for his family, his terribly passive behavior
rubbed off of on his son, and so forth. Even then, he s still being terrorized by various kinds of
tyrannical powers: the tyranny of marriage (his very uptight wife, Dame Van Winkle, nags on him a
lot), the tyranny of social expectations (a man in his prime is expected to do something beneficial),
and the tyranny of government (he is under direct rule of King George III). Thankfully, a magical nap
solved all of these issues. With him sleeping through

Second Industrial Revolution Essay
An Industrial Revolution is the change in social and economic organization that resulted from the
replacement of the hand tools with machines and from the development of large scale industrial
production (Danzer R50). The Second Industrial Revolution happened nearly one hundred years later
after the First Industrial Revolution in England during the 1760s (Fagnilli 7). The Second Industrial
Revolution was the cause of new inventions, government support for business, common natural
resources, and increasing population (Fagnilli 7). The Industrial Revolution in the United States had
impact on the economy, cities, workers, and environment (Fagnilli 7). The Second Industrial

During the Second Industrial Revolution the work conditions in the big factories was very poor. In the
dangerous factories there were over two thousand deaths and twenty thousand injuries per year
(Fagnilli 7). The majority of the workers in the poor work conditioned factories were immigrants
(Fagnilli 7). In the Central Pacific, factories workers were mostly immigrants of Chinese or Hispanic
descent (Fagnilli 7). In the Union Pacific, factories workers were mostly Irish, African American, or
Civil War Veterans (Fagnilli 7). The Chinese workers that worked in the west made around thirty
dollars per month (Fagnilli 7). The average white worker would make around forty to sixty dollars per
month with meals includes (Fagnilli 7). The factory owners would discriminate against people by their
race. The conditions inside the factories were horrible, they called them sweatshops. A sweatshop is a
shop or factory in which employees work for long hours at low wages and under unhealthy conditions
(Merriam Webster). The poor work conditions and low wages in the workplace is what caused many
strikes throughout the nation, leading to union s. In the Second Industrial Revolution there was a great
deal of work being done but the workers had to go through poor work conditions to be able to have a
meal on the table for there family. In the 1860s through the 1900s, the working person was greatly
impacted by the Second Industrial Revolution.

Freedom Riders Equality
was not even twenty four hours and the KKK embarked on the attacks once again (117). With attacks
continued on by the KKK other steps were trying to be made in racial equality. Occurring before the
time of the KKK s start of their attacks were the Freedom Rides looking for racial equality on the
transportation services. Raymond Arsenault discusses in his book Freedom Riders 1961 and the
Struggle for Racial Justice that the Freedom Rides began after the blacks were forced to give up their
bus seat, so that whites could sit, Irene Morgan first experienced this when she was forced by the
driver to remove herself from the seat in 1944 (14). Arsenault finds that the rides made their way all of
the south of the United States going from Florida to Northern Virginia toward the west in Illinois and
through Missouri and heading as west as Texas and California (220 221). John A. Kirk writes in his
article Battle Cry of Freedom: Little Rock, Arkansas and The Freedom Riders at Fifty that the riders
were surged on by the Congress of Racial Equality(CORE). The riders route was planned to ride from
St, Louis, Little Rock, Shreveport, and finally stopping in New Orleans. They would later leave New

The Causes Of The Indo-Pakistani War Of 1947
The Indo Pakistani war of 1947 was the very first war fought between the two counties over Jammu
and Kashmir. The war began when Pakistan sent troops from Waziristan into Kashmir in order to
obtain their land. When the king of Kashmir, Hari Singh, realized what Pakistan was doing to
Kashmir, he pleaded with India for help. Tensions exploded in October 1947 when the Pathan
Muslims of Poonch rebelled against the Hindu landowners of Kashmir. On October 22, Pakistan sent
troops into the region, brutally taking Muzaffarabad and Uri, burning a swath of destruction wherever
they marched, and killing Hindu civilians, ( Indo Pakistani War, 1947 1948, , n.d.). Indian government

General Yahya Khan, who was the president of Pakistan, refused to transition power to democratically
elected Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. These events sparked a massive surge of some 10 million refugees
from East Pakistan Bangladesh into West Bengal, India, one of the most impoverished districts of one
of the world s poorest nations ( Indo Pakistani War, 1971, n.d.). General Yahya Khan tried to suppress
this uprising by systematically eliminating Bengali civilians, religious minorities and armed personnel.
The East Pakistanis fled in millions to India to escape from these brutalities. India was thus introduced
into the war. Pakistan sent airplanes into Kashmir on December 3rd, 1971. This started a 12 day war
between India and Pakistan in which India had the upper hand. India now recognized Bangladesh as a
country and at the same time launched an air and ground assault on Dhaka. India now held control
over Dhaka and had captured 90,000 Pakistanis as prisoners of war. Pakistan was left with no choice
but to declare a ceasefire which ended the war between the two countries. Sheikh Mujib returned
home to become Bangladesh s first president. Pakistan officially recognized Bangladesh as a country

Stereotyping Ethnic Characters
According to Micheal Omi, Film and television have been notorious in disseminating images of racial
minorities which establish for audiences what these groups look like, how they behave, and, in
essence, who they are (541). Micheal Omi is the author of In Living Color: Race and American
Culture , who depicts that many people are assuming the exclusion is over in United States, however,
she argues that racism is continuing to modern society through the mass media that creates of the
popular culture, and it brings many social problems on stereotyping ethnic characters. Jessica
Haredorn, author of Asian Women in Film: No Joy, No Luck , also describes that how the Asian
women are stereotyping in Hollywood, If we are good, we are childlike, submissive, silent, and eager
for sex... or else we are tragic victim types... And if we are not silent, suffering doormats, we are
demonized dragon ladies cunning, deceitful, sexual provocateurs (344). As they discuss about,
Hollywood writers and directors have a social responsibility to avoid stereotyping ethnic characters
because the mess media can give negative effects in the modern society, such as increasing conflict
between different the racial groups, developing of the stereotyping ethnic characters, and immunizing
from the ethnic stereotype.
United states have the most various ethnic group population, and the conflict between different racial

How Did Sherman s March Affect The South

November 15 until December 21, 1864. ( Shermans March to Sea ). Sherman s March was also known
as the Savannah campaign only because the March ended in the capture of port Savannah. ( Sherman s

ended as a win for the north. (Union army). It was classified as a win for the union(North) because it
is known for its boldness as well as the utter destruction on the South, both to its industry as well as
military targets, effectively destroying the Confederate s capacity to wage war. (History Net).

Improving Athletic Performance
Competitive and recreational athletes typically use preparatory exercises such as warm up and
stretching to prepare the body for vigorous physical activity (Worrell, Smith, Winegarden, 1995). For
many years, stretching before athletic competition has been recommended to prepare the athlete for
the event (Unick, Kieffer, Cheesman, Freeney, 2005), and stretching has traditionally been considered
as an essential component of warm up routines to prepare muscles for activity, enhance performance,
and prevent injuries (Gleim McHugh, 1997; Marek et al., 2005; Schilling, 2000). The use of stretching
as part of warm up routines comes from the belief that stretching will aid in athletic performance and
help prevent injury as well as decrease muscle stiffness, increase range of motion, alleviate pain
(Schilling Stone, 2000; Unick, Kieffer, Cheesman, Freeney, 2005).
Recently, many studies have been conducted to determine which types of stretching such as static
stretching or dynamic stretching, is better for improving strength, speed, power and force production,
as well as whether the stretching prior to athletic competition would have an effect on the performance
(Church, Wiggins, Crist, 2001; Fletcher Jones, 2004; Unick, Kieffer, Cheesman, Freeney, 2005).
Recent studies have indicated certain types of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

repetitions of 20 to 30 second static stretching holds on each muscle group) on power output

commonly used by athletes. To my knowledge, this would be one of the very few studies to determine
whether the short static stretching (1 set of either 10 or 30 seconds of static stretching) has an acute
effect on vertical jump

Alpine Drive Investigation
Leading up to the investigation, at 10:30 the Police Communications Bureau called me at home and
informed me of a request for a Detective follow up at Alpine Drive. Originally, patrol officers
responded to the address regarding yelling and screaming, but once they arrived they found the door
open and no one inside. While responding officers were still at the scene, others were dispatched to a
location a couple miles away where a passing reported someone lying next to the roadway. Officers
found a young woman who had been badly beaten and stabbed. The victim did happen to be alive but
was unconscious. She was transported to the hospital where she is reported to be in critical condition.
While this is all going on, officers stood at the hospital. They believe the unidentified victim could be

circumstances. Neighbors called 9 1 1 to report the sound of yelling and a female voice ... Show more

T. S. Eliot Prufrock Research Paper
T.S.Eliot wrote Prufrock poem six years before its publication in the Egoist 1917. From the first
glance at the poem one can figure out the personal touches of its writer who genuinely described the
days and nights of the places, streets and cities that he had been to. It probably was Eliot himself to
nourish such rich observations from his abundant experience; Mathiessen describes it as Prufrock
seems to spring from Eliot s detached super cultivated fastidious young man from Harvard;
(Mathiessen, 1958, 59).
Despite the fact that T.S.Eliot has called for the impersonality of poetry yet, all the assets in this poem
of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock infer that of T.S. Eliot himself.

Classroom incivility is one of the major problems affecting most of the learning institutions in the
United States. Tutorial room misconduct can be defined as any action that affects the cooperative and
harmonious learning environment (Klebig et al. 154). Impolite students behaviors not only interrupt
the overall learning atmosphere for learners but also lead to the instructors discontent and stress. As a
result, most lectures struggle to effectively and efficiently manage classrooms with frequent students

Essay Comparing The Flying Machine And Harrison Bergeron
According to all known morals, the government should not abuse its power to wrongfully prosecute
citizens and rule in a way that metaphorically imprisons the citizens in a political system that takes
away their rights. But the fictional governments created by authors of The Flying Machine and
Harrison Bergeron don t care about what morals dictate. These authors do what they want with
satirical implications and universal implications that both discuss topics of symbols of freedom and
how they have been abused or destroyed by the government.
Both the character of Harrison Bergeron from Harrison Bergeron and the inventor from The Flying

In Harrison Bergeron , the government traps the citizen to make them all equal , which means giving
them handicaps to stunt their natural features and talents and reverse them into shortcomings.
Handicaps include things such as earpieces that play loud noises so your thoughts become interrupted,
or weights around parts of the body if you re strong. Taking off the handicaps, even temporarily,
results in punishment for apparent unfair use of their brain/face/etc. Furthermore, the government
enforces the handicaps as a notion to be regarded as what God have them , even though the
government gave the people the handicaps, altering what the true God/universe/biology gives a
person, which is the exact opposite of what the government gives them. This is shown when Hazel
says He did the best with what God gave him, when she talks about the stuttering announcer. This
means the government conditions the people to regard the government as a higher power, and takes
away the citizens abilities to recognize the injustices of the system. Therefore, the government is using
an elaborate brainwashing scheme. In The Flying Machine , even though this is in the year 400 AD
and therefore before a system of democracy or right to fair trial had a place in the world, the Emperor
orders the prosecution of a man for what can be considered

Comparing Tin Pan Alley And Swing
The swing era took place from 1935 1945. It took place during a time that the Great Depression was

Analysis Of The Book Coretta The Story Of Coretta...
Summary of the Text: The biography of Coretta: The Story of Coretta Scott King, was the first
biography made depicting Coretta s life, goals, and success. The book was written by a close friend of
hers whose name is Octavia Vivian. The story tells how Coretta, as a young woman, had grown up in
Alabama. She later went to Antioch College, and later found out that she, as a colored young woman,
would not be allowed to teach, mix, or mingle with the whites in the state of Ohio. She later explored
a musical career in Boston where she was to meet her future husband Martin Luther King, Jr (Vivian).
Coretta was born to her parents, whose names were Bernice McMurry and Obadiah Scott, and grew
up and was raised on her parent s farm located in Heiberger, Alabama. Since she grew up during the
time and era of segregation, she, as a child, attended a one room school house and later graduated
from Lincoln Normal School from a town close by called Marion, Alabama. Vivian also mentions that
Coretta s mother was a school bus driver for all the colored children to be able to attend that particular
school (Vivian). Later in the 1940s, Coretta attended Antioch College, located in Yellow Springs,
Ohio. She studied music education and sang in the school choirs and the local churches. In her senior
year she went through the issue of not being able to teach since Yellow Springs would not allow her to
interact and mix, as a colored woman and teacher, with the whites at their schools. Higher

Uses Of A Foreign Language By Theresa Cha s Dictee
In the course of reading, the Asian American literature I was particularly amazed by the work done by
Theresa Cha in the book Dictee. Despite her Asian origin and the changing of the different places they
lived as immigrants, she tried her best to write about art and particularly the poems that have attracted
attention by literature scholars. Interesting is her use of mimicry to show the difficulty of speech, her
use of international race and nation conflicts to educate the readers as well as her uniting idea of cheap
nature of language and culture to show that integration is possible even without the mastery of the

In fact, most of them are unidentified and the reader may not identify a specific person that speaks in
the different chapters. Thus, the audience may understand it is an embodiment of females focusing on
structuring the major theme of the book, which is gender inequality. Additionally, the description of
the female characters is equivocal such that the reader has to picture the image of the women.
Although the author provides various photos in the book, there is absence of an explanation. Before
this, the writer only concentrates on telling the story (Kim,165). Additionally, the author uses poetic
approach to explain the setting in the book, which gives the novel distinct styles of writing. In fact, the
poems are only meant to provide the reader with a description of the mothers and daughters, and this
creates a distinction in the narrative. Resultantly, the audience perceives that when a poem appears in
the reading, the author is probably narrating the plight of women. Notwithstanding, the novel uses

The first, Illegal Immigration Reform Responsibility Act passed in 1996 by president Bill Clinton,
which covers many aspects of immigration, and the responsibilities placed upon those enforcing the
law as well as immigrants. Basically, this act addresses border patrol and its process. The anti terrorist
and the effective terrorist act became a huge step forward to continue the fight against terrorism.
However, this law endangers democracy by creating an authoritarian style of government. Moreover,
the Patriots act signed by president W. Bush in 2001, this act is an antiterrorist law enacted by
congress as a response to the 911, terrorist attack. These policies are very different from previous
policies because they impact families drastically. In other words, those policies contribute to the
destruction of families. There are many ways to get deported for example: visa expiration, fail to
renew for green card, crimes acts, and traffic violations. The National Origin act passed in 1924 it is a
quota system that allows certain amount of people into the United States. Looking at the dynamics of

Sweet Pea Research Paper
Sweet Pea Mack
There is a common belief that our animals find us. Looking for our forever dog does not always come
easily or quickly. That match may be increasingly difficult if you are looking for the ideal dog to
become part of a community. One of the most difficult challenges of aging of the loss of a pet. While
it is not uncommon for retirement communities to allow small cats and dogs, the resident needs to be
able to independently care for their pet either by themselves, family, or paid caregivers. As a geriatric
social worker, I am a firm believer in the power of the human animal bond, and totally support seniors
with maintaining a relationship with animals in whatever capacity they are able. Years ago I was
working in a retirement community committed to improving the culture and climate in the nursing
home by implementing the Eden Alternative. This system is designed to create a human habitat
through the inclusion of plants, animal, and volunteers.
Adopting two suitable dogs was my mission. Enter into the picture is Sweet Pea and Mack, rescued

Mission Command For The Battle Of The Bulge
Mission Command Analysis Brigadier General (BG) James M. Gavin, 82nd Airborne Division, U.S.
Army, was one of the distinguish Generals to contribute in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. BG Gavin
commanded the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions. He was responsible for many decisive
operations that were key for the success of the battle. He maintained firing positions for engaging the
Germans counteroffensive attacks. Simultaneously, his Mission Command practices brought him to
the success of occupying two important cities in Belgium. Brigadier General Gavin demonstrated
effectiveness in winning the Battle of the Bulge by applying Mission Command Philosophies of

In airborne operations, he was always the first one to jump. Even in moments of engaging heavy fire
from the enemy, BG Gavin would be side to side with his troops. Identifying their needs and spending
time with them created a stronger relationship in the organization. There was no need to reiterate, he
was in charge, everyone knew he was the General. Therefore, He demonstrated that he was there to
lead, but as well to fight and train as an ordinary Soldier. The constant presence with his troops was
the most significant act of building cohesive teams through mutual trust. In Fact, how he found the
time and energy to be constantly with his frontline troops and still direct the overall activities of the
division was a mystery. 1 Interacting with your subordinates shows that you care. A leader that trains
with his subordinates also earns credibility. How Soldiers trust, weights leader s sound judgment for
leading troops and accomplishing missions, regardless complexity. In order to build cohesive teams,
trust has to be mutual. But more from Soldiers to leaders. When Soldiers can rely on their leader, they
will also trust peers. If a general can be trusted and is part of the team, Soldiers will have more
confidence in challenging moments. As all troops believes on a leader s intent, the collective trust will
be stronger within the Soldiers. This was reflected when BG Gavin s Soldiers did not like the idea of

Hamilton Vs. Jefferson

I had intended to post Part II of the WWI question last night, but got caught up doing movie reviews
on Life of Ando. So to slake your ravenous historical thirst in the meantime, here is my assignment
from my history class this past week. If you re really into American history and how the politics of the
early Republic shook out, Jefferson vs. Hamilton is a great study. It s also a little, I guess comforting,
to know that as bad as we think today s politicians are, politics was always a very dirty game. Like
Bismarck said, Laws are like sausages. Better to not see them being made. And as Ecclesiastes says,
There s nothing new under the sun.

However, without Hamilton s counter balance Jefferson s policies may have left the government weak
and ineffectual to deal with major crises both at home and abroad.
Each viewpoint needed the other to create a government that would be strong enough to protect itself
and it s people from internal and external strife, but not so strong that it would infringe on the rights of
the people as enumerated in the Bill of Rights and in the Revolutionary spirit. These issues, of course,
weren t resolved or ceased to be relevant after Hamilton and Jefferson left the scene. These are still
very much the issues we deal with even now, over 200 years later. As much as we might dislike, or
even hate, the position of the other party, without some balance both sides would undoubtedly abuse
their power...more than they already do.

The Red Umbrella Essay
Did you know that thousands of families get separated each year because of deportation? In the story,
The Red Umbrella , and the article, A Band Aid for 800 Children , they have a similar theme that is
portrayed in the story. The theme, One might realize that at some point, family must stay in your heart,
and not your life, is shown through various techniques the author uses throughout the entire text.
These two authors use similar and different techniques to develop the text. The theme relates to both
texts because, in the story, it deals with how the children must leave the parents to go to the United
States. In the article, it has to do with a woman, Sandigo, who helps children with parents that are

author uses the technique of facts and statistics. The example, ...means more than 100,000 American

The story and the article also have two different point of views. In the story, the point of view was
Lucy s, in first person point of view. The text, I walked toward the stairs numb, shows that it is Lucy s
point of view. In the article, it is Sandigo s point of view. The text, Every child is also a job, she says,

The Red Umbrella uses only is a plot. Articles do not have a plot, but stories do. The excerpt starts
with Papa calling the children into the living room, That night, Papa called Frankie and me into the

The Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics
Introduction
The Egyptian hieroglyphs were a prescribed writing system by the ancient Egyptians to represent their
language, it was a combined system with logographic and alphabetic elements. Logographic systems
were the earliest form of writing system, which were used in Africa, China and Central America
(History world, 2015). Egyptians used hieroglyphs for religious literature on papyrus and wood. The
early hieroglyphs dates back to 3,300 BCE and was still used up until the end of the fourth century
CE. This was when the non Christian temples were closed and their monumental was no longer
needed. Many other important Greeks believed that the Egyptian hieroglyphs were sacred, so they
referred to them as holy writing . The word hieroglyphs comes from the Greek (hiero meaning holy
and glypho means writing). The Ancient Egyptians believed that their writing was an invention of the
gods, that is why the hieroglyphs were called medu netjer ; the gods words . The hieroglyphics script
were composed of three types of signs: logograms, representing words; phonograms, which represent
sounds and the determinatives, placed at the end of a word to clarify its meaning (Scoville, P. 2015).
This essay will outline the historical aspects of ancient Egypt, the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and
how the writing system was developed. It will also talk about the decipherment of the hieroglyphs, the
discovery of the Rosetta stone and how Jean Francais Champollion was the first modern person

and his last release, the time span only comes to 26 years. It is weird to think that Salinger s writing
career did not even fill one third of his overall life. All of Salinger s short stories were published and

When thought of how Holden Caulfield came to be, pieces fall into place. John Green explains it
smoothly, stating he [does not] think it is that interesting to use a novel to analyze its author; however,
imagine that [someone has] just come home from a horribly destructive war. [They have] seen combat
and [they have] seen concentration camps and [they have] lost innocence in a way that most [people]
thankfully never will. Salinger had a very traumatic experience in the war, and it can proven that J.D.
Salinger saw more combat in World War Two than almost any other American...And yet Salinger
returned home and wrote not about war, but about Holden Caulfield bumming around New York City.
(Green). It is odd that only about one or two of Salinger s short stories mentioned war at all. It
becomes clear, however, when questioning how Holden Caulfield came to be in the first place. He was
created by a loss of innocence that Salinger suffered in the war. He does not wish for anyone else to
lose that innocence as well. This is just how Holden Caulfield feels. He is reaching that point of
adulthood, and he is scared. He wishes for time to stop and he wants to be a protector of innocence, as
he believes it is a primary virtue to life. When bringing up the theme of innocence, Holden Caulfield
represents how Salinger felt about the war one hundred percent. Salinger did not write about war after
returning from WWII, but he rather wrote about Holden Caulfield, a protector of innocence and a
catcher in the rye. This comparison is the best one to help link the bridge between Salinger and

Gloria Anzaldua And Dear White People
Struggles with Identity
Finding your identity can be hard for some people. Your identity obviously makes you who you are.
Gloria Anzaldua s To Live in the Borderlands (1987) and Justin Simien s Dear White People (2014)
had a couple things in common when related to identity. In the poem, she talks about being between
the borderlands and trying to find who you are based on where you are from and where you are now. I
see a similar concept of not being able to decide who you really are in several characters in Dear
White People. When I think of the struggles with identity in both the poem and the movie, I think of
the tug of war game. The reader, or character in the movie, is in the middle and having both sides of
who they are on each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You are the battle ground where enemies are kin to each other and you are at home, a stranger is where
that situation really stands out. She is saying that she is the middle man of two different sides. In this
case, I see it being between her homeland and where she is now. When she writes you are at home, a
stranger meaning when she goes back to where she grew up, she is not the same person she once was
and her family and friends do not recognize her. If I picture this poem as visual aspect, I see the reader
in the middle and the hometown on one side and the current residence on the other playing tug of war
and the reader cannot decide who should win.
When I watch Dear White People I see the same features come through as with the overall aspect of
To Live in the Borderlands. Rather than one person with identity issues in the poem, in the movie
there are several people with this problem. The first person that really stands out to me when I think
identity conflictions is, Samantha White. We see her being strong and forceful for the black
community on Winchester campus and then see her sleeping with Gabe, a white man. Right off the
bat, we see some in between from choosing to be with a white man and sticking up for the black
community. It only gets more conflicting as the movie goes on. She is still back and forth with the
community and with Gabe. As the movie comes to an end, we find out that Sam has a white father and
she was never really

The Tinning children fell victims to their Munchausen mother, Marybeth. Back in 1972, Jennifer, Mr.
and Mrs. Tinning s eight year old daughter had passed away from acute meningitis. As a very detached

their daughter s passing. It did however bring a wave of sympathy from family and friends. Just shy of
3 weeks following Jennifer s death, Marybeth had to rush her two year old son to the hospital where
he was pronounced dead due to a viral infection accompanied by a seizure disorder. Unfortunately no

more aware of this upcoming condition that could lead to homicidal motives. Six weeks after the

1.1.1 GAME CONSOLES
A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or modified computer system that
produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to
display a video game. The term video game console is used to distinguish a machine designed for
consumers to buy and use solely for playing video games from a personal computer, which has many
other functions, or arcade machines, which are designed for businesses that buy them and then charge
others to play.

A graphics processing unit or GPU (also occasionally called visual processing unit or VPU) is a
specialized processor that offloads 3D graphics rendering from the microprocessor. It is used in
embedded systems, mobile phones, personal computers, workstations, and game consoles. Modern
GPUs are very efficient at manipulating computer graphics, and their highly parallel structure makes
them more effective than general purpose CPUs for a range of complex algorithms. In a personal

new desktop and notebook computers have integrated GPUs, which are usually far less powerful than
those on a dedicated video card.

Scotland Pros And Cons
For a number of centuries, Highlanders have remained in the Highlands of northern Scotland. This
influential group of inhabitants, imagined bulked together in clans and having wardrobes solely
composed of tartan kilts, have been referenced throughout the recent years in popular literature and

modern day Highlander. Previously competent in the affairs of war, revolution, and politics,
Highlanders today lead a much more rural and relaxed lifestyle. Once dominated by prominent towns,

Those in support were often called Jacobites, and planning for revolution was done in utmost secrecy.
At the beginning of the revolution, the Highlanders did well defending themselves against the English
brutalities. In the Battle of Prestonpans, Highlanders captured nearly one thousand English soldiers
and wounded hundreds, which gave them Jacobian pride to continue the revolution (Forty five, 2014).
However, all ideals of revolution ended at the Battle of Culloden. Leading up to the Battle of Culloden
(April 16, 1746), the Highlanders hadn t been fed for days and had little protection or shelter from the
harsh Highland weather. Due to the underwhelming force of the Highland Jacobites, the battle lasted
less than an hour. There were over 1500 Highlander fatalities, a striking difference to only fifty
English fatalities. On their way home from the tremendous victory, the English stopped by any
Highland villages on the way and rid of each Highlander they saw. Houses, barns, and memories were
burnt to the ground in the reigning terror of the English on their way back from Culloden (Magnusson,
2000, p. 617). This, the last pitched battle on British soil, remains a haunting reminder to the

Superheroes are burning hot right now in the wide world of media. They are dominating on the big

media having all of these superhero based TV shows and films, sitcoms have long been a staple to
television. What nobody has attempted yet is the combination of a good old fashioned sitcom and the
hot new sensation of superheroes. This is until NBC decided to greenlight a workplace comedy about

because of a hero fan base that will be tuning in. That being said, there is one other major effect to

Abstract
Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a
single place, where they would present a form which had previously been filled in by the student and
their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format.
The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to
tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement
implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of
concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most
human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred,
but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen.
Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying
much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the
registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault
tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically
feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing
resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix
workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these
resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques
certainly looked attractive.

Proposal for magazine production
The title of my magazine will be Supercalifragilistic . This title is outstanding and different from other
lifestyle magazines which should benefit more interesting to the public. The word Supercalifragilistic
is come from supercalifragilisticexpialidocious , which is a song from the 1964 Disney musical film
Mary Poppins. The roots of the word have been defined as follow: super above, cali beauty, fragilistic
delicate, expiali to atone, and docious educable. According to the film, the word gained its popularity.
And, it is commonly defined as extraordinary good or wonderful as all reference to the word in the
film can be perceived as positive.
The genre of my magazine is going to be lifestyle with a little bit of freestyle. This is because lifestyle
magazine is popularized to everyone. And I hope that it would not under the bound of format. The
cover of the magazine is a photograph of scenery in Switzerland. I would like to show the feeling of

Dialectical Tension Examples
In Relationships that we deal with everyday there are dialectical tensions and issues that arise. These
tensions can greatly effect a relationship whether it be with a romantic partner, friend or family. In this
paper, I will define, discuss and give examples of three dialectical Tensions; describe how they have
impacted relationships in my life and how I ve managed these tensions with management strategies.
The three Tension I will discuss are autonomy vs. connectedness , novelty vs. predictability , and
openness vs. closedness . The four managing strategies for these dialectical tensions are: selection,
separation, neutralization, and reframing. The personal relationship in which I will use personal
examples in this paper will be my best friend and I and the tensions that we ... Show more content on

A way in which this is easily recognizable which way your relationship is between autonomy and
connectedness, Is whether the other person is saying I or is saying we . This tension happens often in
romantic relationships when one person wants to be with the other all the time, while the other feels
suffocated and has a need for individuality. Thus, too much integration comes with the loss of
autonomy and individuality, whereas extreme separation limits connection and can threaten the
relationship. (Sahlstein, E., Dun, T. 2008, p.37). Therefore either Autonomy or connectedness in a
relationship, too much of one or the either can issues emerge. A personal example of an experience
that I ve had is with my best friend and I. When we were in high school we both graduated early in
December, I went to a community college to get some credits before transferring to a four year
college, whereas he just took a break from everything. Every day when I got off of school we would
hang out and do stuff.

Bad Boys II And Blue Streak Comparison
Bad Boys II is a 2003 action comedy that was directed by Michael Bay, and starred Will Smith and
Martin Lawrence. The movie follows cops, Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowry, try to take down a drug
dealer and ensure the safety of Marcus sister who is an undercover cop.
The movie Blue Streak is also 1999 action comedy that was directed by Les Mayfield, and starred
Martin Lawrence and Luke Wilson. The movie follows Miles Logan a jewel thief turned fake cop tries
to retrieve a diamond he hid in a construction site that ends up being a police station.
Bad Boys II and Blue Streak have many similarities. They re both action comedies. They even share
an actor, but both movies are also very different. Both of the movies have a driving theme that
achieving the goal is most important. The thing that makes the movies different is how they portray
the characters movement toward the main theme. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Blue Streak the plot moves at a slower pace. Each thing that happens doesn t trigger another major
event immediately after. They take more time in each scene to allow for more plot development. Bad
Boys II moves very quickly throughout the plot. One event leads quickly to another major event, and
this is seen throughout movie. Things happen in quick succession and the plot moves very quickly
without any lull in the action. The movies both take a different approach at main character
development. Blue Streak does a good job developing the main characters in only a few situations. It
develops the character mainly in how they act in think in one environment, but it doesn t show how
the character acts in a variety of situations and environments. Bad Boys II thoroughly develops
characters throughout a range of situations. It gives the viewer insight into the personal lives along
with professional lives of the characters and shows them how the characters react and think in range of

A Report On The World
The Glyptodon is one of the best in my opinion of the reinforced armored animals that proceeded onto
the Americas; they are found from the Eocene Epoch to the Pleistocene through Holocene Epoch.
During the Pleistocene, these herbivorous animals reached their great evolutionary changes due to
some forced adaptation. They were large mammmals, reaching in body size from several hundred
kilograms to two hundred kilograms; they were the size of a small volts wagon beetle and possessed
amazing features with no comparison among living animals at that time that made Glyptodon a
peculiar specimen. Some features include having an immobile back bone/spine (that connects to the
neck); hypselodont teeth made of an outside layer of some type of hard cement like product known as
cementum, a tougher outer shell and a unique skull.
Geology
Glyptodon is speculated to have come from South America. Their fossil has been found in Brazil,
Uruguay and Argentina. Glyptodon fossils discovered in Brazil, consist of clavipes (genus type) had
the largest array. Its distribution includes north, northeast, and southeast Brazil. Glyptodon reticulatus
another genus fossil has only been discovered in southern Brazil. Glyptodon has also been other
places such as Bolivia, Paraguay and western Uruguay lately have been discovered. Fossil linked to
Glyptodon in northeast Brazil has been connected to Glyptotherium (genus Of Glyptodon), limiting
the circulation of Glyptodon to the southern region of Brazil.

Differences Between New England Settlers And Chesapeake...
When the English settled into the New World, they were split up into two sections, the Chesapeake
region and the New England region. Although the English settled both, the two regions were severely
different from each other when they were brought about. The New England and Chesapeake colonies
differed in three ways: their reason for venturing over, economy, and population. These major
differences were what shaped our nation today and what will continue shaping our nation in the future.
When the Mayflower sailed over to the New World, on the boats were Puritans that were looking for a
change in the way that their religion was practiced where the Chesapeake settlers came over for gold.
Alongside the Puritans were the Separatists who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gold was never found and the passage through America was given up in hopes of staying alive.
Because the Chesapeake settlers were too interested in gold, they did not settle down and get ready for
the harsh winters to come; leaving them unprotected to the fierce winter. The New England settlers
were settles and ready, but they did loose a few men to the bitter cold, however not as many as the
Chesapeake settlers did. The economy of the two regions also greatly differed because of the terrain
that they landed on. Because the land in the south was much more fertile than in the north, the
southern colonies thrived in rice and tobacco, profiting greatly. In New England the settlers could not
grow anything in the rocky terrain and were forced into fishing, building, and farming. However, not
much farming went on because of the infertile soil. In the Chesapeake slaves were also a main part of
their economy. The slave trade made them very wealthy because of their closeness to the West Indies.
They would be shipped many slaves and then use them to harvest their crops and plant their land.
Soon, the slaves outnumbered white settlers by about four to one. When the English sailed over to the
New World, there were only a handful of them, that is, until slavery was introduced. While New
England was almost all white English settlers Chesapeake was made up of mostly African American
slaves. In New England, the need for slaves was not very high because of the

Examples Of Greed In Huckleberry Finn
Michelle Callahan November 5, 2014 ENGL 2328 6001 8W2 Violence and greed are two themes that
run rampant through all of Huckleberry Finn, driving the story along. Just when you begin to think
things have calmed down, something else happens to bring the themes back into the picture and
shatter the false sense of peace achieved by the slow float down the river. The characters are impelled
to continue living dangerously, despite the many other options available to them, to try and improve
their station in life. The violence and greed both come in early on, and it s no surprise that the two are
wrapped up together in a profound way. Huck s dad, Pap, comes back into the picture, and the readers
quickly find out that Huck has been abused many times in the past. Huck recalls how his father hasn t
been seen in a year and Huck was just fine with that as Pap used to always whale [Huck] when he was
sober and could get his hands on [Huck] and Huck would have to hide out in the woods to get away
from his father (Twain 113). This skill ends up serving Huck well later, when he has to hide from
many other men who are representations of his father. Pap comes out of hiding, only because he heard
that his son had come into a large sum of money and he wants it for his own. He tells Huck that he
hain t heard nothing but about [Huck] bein rich. [Pap] heard about it away down the river too. That s
why [he] come, back to town. Pap wants the money so badly, that

The Theory Of Management As A Science
Management as a science
Science is the process of getting things done in correct order. It is the way of coordinating and
gathering information s of day to day knowledge, and used knowledge to formulate rules, law of
principles. In National Humanities Centre (2005, P. 2)
As per Weber, (1975) bosses of nineteenth and twentieth century saw no requirement for social
fulfillment on occupation. In office and shop, their posted approaches every now and again prohibit
mingling , unmoving tattle, or conspiratorial meeting. Experimental administration master exhorted
chiefs to regard individuals as individual piece rate motivating force pay to urge every worker to
deliver to his greatest.
Under experimental administration the activity of laborer (that is, their work, their positive attitude,
and their creativity) is acquired with outright consistency and a more prominent degree than is
conceivable under the old framework; and notwithstanding the change with respect to the men, the
director expects new weights, new obligations, and obligations never longed for before. The director
expect, for occurrence, the weight of assembling all the conventional learning which in the past has
been controlled by the laborers and the ordering, classifying, and lessening this information to
principles, law, and define which are colossally useful to the workers in doing their every day work. in

Defining Racism
February 22, 2011
Professor Harris
Response Paper: Defining Racism
In this article by Beverly Daniel Tatum, she uses her various life experiences to show the issues that
come along with attempting to define racism in America. There are several external issues that come
not only from defining racism, but with separating racism from prejudice. In dispelling preconceived
notions that these two words are interchangeable, Tatum makes several distinctions in the meaning
and application of the two words in everyday life. Before going further into the separating factors of
the two words, Tatum discusses how unintentional our prejudices can be. Throughout her article,

According to her, prejudice is an inescapable product of the racist soceity in America. She goes on to
further explain the evolution of internalized oppression, which is when members of stereotyped
groups internalizes and perpetuates the stereotyped categories of his or her group. In addressing the
issue of intenalized oppression, Tatum gives some responsibility for the state of racism to the very
people who suffer from it.
In the article, Tatum uses the definition of racism that is given by David Wellman in his book Portraits
of White Racism, which says that racism is a system of advantage based on race (Tatum, 1997). This
definition is something that I found to be very interesting. In many cases, racism is not defined to
include the advatages that come from its existance. Instead racism is seen as a singular act, and never
as a wholistic system that subtly disadvantages a specific group of people. When discussing how to
end racism, no one ever gives solutions to erradicate the subleminal and covert racism that permeates
every system from education to healthcare, because that would shoot down the ideal that in America is
an equal and fair place for achieving one s dreams.
In the last section of her article, Tatum address whether or not racism is exclusive to Whites or
whether it is applicable to all people regardless of race. In this section, she is very specific is stating
that the

The Evolution Of Film Noir
The film noir genre first appeared in the early 1940s and has grown since their first appearance on
screen. While there are various definitions and aspects that can define this genre, it is usual depicted as
having an anti hero set in a realistic setting while trying to fight inner demons and the outer world
surrounding problems simultaneously. As any genre, it has noticeable tropes that can place it within
this spectrum. Over the years, since the first decade of film noir, society has changed, causing the
genre to adapt. The changes are not limited to being on film, but also to those within other forms of
media, such as television and literature. Rather than focusing upon one area, it is better to look on it as
a whole. Headhunters is a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an idea similar to that of the butterfly effect, any action can lead up to affecting not only one
person, but to a whole group of people, which is a concept that is widely known. Broadchurch, a
British television series, employs its complex narrative structure to reveal the hidden connections that
are at play in society, but hints that those connections may sometimes work on a level beyond all
human rationality. While this series may not be a Nordic series, it does have the Nordic noir idea of
including the broader audiences. The crime television series intends to include the big picture; all
individuals are apart of this life and have a connection to it. Nordic noir just so happens to be a genre
that manages to capture this within a television

An Abusive Relationship Of The Scarlet Letter
Divorce. If you have left an abusive marriage you are either headed in this direction or are there now.
The scarlet letter D is one many do not foresee being attached to their name. It was not a word I ever
expected to find attached to mine. Ever. In fact, had you asked me in my younger years if I believed I
would ever wear the title of divorcee you would have received a loud resounding no. I would never be
one of those people. That would have honestly been my answer. Truly. Taking the step to leave an
abusive relationship takes great amounts of courage. Walking away from the aspects of financial
security, family for your children, stability (what little may exist), your home and so forth is not an
easy decision to make. You make a choice, take that first scary step and trust that if you fall, the pain
will be less than the pain you have been experiencing. Oftentimes the pain is not less and in fact, ends
up worse than what you left behind. For a woman with children, when the choice is made to leave,
there is the new responsibility of solely being the provider for her children in every way possible.
Food, shelter, clothing, school needs, all fall on that mama who has chosen to protect her children
from the wolf who longs to devour. You see, when you leave an abuser, there is no financial support.
There is no co parenting. There is no concern on the part of the abuser for those children. There is only
the need to win. The need to take down the woman who

Law Of Attraction Is A Reality
If you have seen the film The Secret which only few people have watched then you may be surprised

you remember you may have also worked out for yourself to apply this Law of Attraction so as to
explore abundance and prosperity in your life, or else you are still stressed on the smooth bed of work,
eat, sleep and being protected in the same routine before you had seen the video.
So the question that comes is that whether Law of Attraction actually is a reality or just a myth?
You will witness a huge and increasing amount of work present on internet websites that pander from
the inherent laziness present in people are designed with a primary purpose of getting that last dollar

The problem present can be better explained with an example: suppose if someone asks you to go the

Lastly, you will find individuals that who proclaim that there is only one single step for pulling
prosperity towards you, carry out or perform this single step and in turn you will get true abundance in
all the areas of your life. However, I am sorry to inform that in my 25 years of career of teaching
about Law of Attraction I have never came across to such a step or method.

Rhetorical Analysis Of King George Vi s Speech
Throughout history, leaders and those looking to be leaders have given persuasive speeches to
potential followers in order to garner as much support as possible. As he attempted for the second time
to become consul, This time of chaos involved poverty and power being in the hands of a small group
of powerful men. Angered by this, L. Sergius Catilina delivered a speech to persuade a private group
of people to elect him as consul so he could be the leader of a rebellion against this small group. Like
Catiline s speech, King George VI s speech that declared war on Germany before World War II was
delivered during a time of chaos. Delivered by radio to his subjects, King George s speech reached far

They should feel proud that their support is the thing that will lead to success in either the rebellion or
the war. Their sheer persuasion through their rhetoric is the key instrument for this support.
A key part of both Catiline and King George s speech are the specific words used. Rhetoric, the study
of effective speaking and writing, is employed by many powerful politicians. In his speech, Catiline
begins by recognizing the virtus (courage) and fides (faith) of his followers in order to draw them in
and get them to listen to what he has to say. He cites them as the reason why the opportune event, the
election of consuls with war distracting those who would stop the election of Catiline, had not
occurred without reason. Furthermore he cites them as being reliable and brave not ignavos homos
which he purposely does to make his audience King George also directly addresses his people by
saying he wishes he could be with them because he has the same depth of feeling for all of his
subjects. This allows for King George s subjects to feel close to him and like he truly cares about
them. Catiline then moves to the tactic of fear as he continues his speech. Unlike King George who
only says the dreaded word war twice, Catiline uses words such as dangers, trials, die, and submissive
in order to give his audience a hint of what is to come if they do not follow his plan. King George
keeps his speech calm and aims to

  • 2. Similarities Between World Bank And Imf World Bank and IMF The birth of World Bank and IMF can be traced to the 1944 Bretton Wood meeting in US which brought over 700 delegates from 44 countries together to establish a framework for a global system of financial and monetary management to prevent a repeat of the Great Depression of 1930s (Moyo, 2009, p. 10). Three organizations were founded to achieve this goal: International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and International Trade Organization. World Bank was mandated to help in reconstruction of Europe after the devastation of Second World War while IMF was intended to improve economic status of countries through applying pressure on them to carry out economic reforms that would increase expenditure, reduce taxes, and lower interest rates in order to stimulate growth (Stiglitz, 2002; Mudida, 2003). They have both evolved to become leading international lenders. They are also at the front line in campaign for trade liberalization across the globe. Since 1960s IMF and World Bank have proposed economic frameworks for the developing countries. These frameworks followed from the great success in the reconstruction of Europe through the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan was designed by United States and involved giving of aid to European countries for the purpose of reconstruction. It was a great success. Running through the story, it is learned that Rip Van Winkle is a lazy and unproductive member of society. Even then, he s still being terrorized by various kinds of tyrannical powers: the tyranny of marriage (his very uptight wife, Dame Van Winkle, nags on him a lot), the tyranny of social expectations (a man in his prime is expected to do something beneficial), and the tyranny of government (he is under direct rule of King George III). With attacks continued on by the KKK other steps were trying to be made in racial equality. Occurring before the time of the KKK s start of their attacks were the Freedom Rides looking for racial equality on the transportation services. Raymond Arsenault discusses in his book Freedom Riders 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice that the Freedom Rides began after the blacks were forced to give up their bus seat, so that whites could sit, Irene Morgan first experienced this when she was forced by the driver to remove herself from the seat in 1944 (14). • 10. Improving Athletic Performance Competitive and recreational athletes typically use preparatory exercises such as warm up and stretching to prepare the body for vigorous physical activity (Worrell, Smith, Winegarden, 1995). For many years, stretching before athletic competition has been recommended to prepare the athlete for the event (Unick, Kieffer, Cheesman, Freeney, 2005), and stretching has traditionally been considered as an essential component of warm up routines to prepare muscles for activity, enhance performance, and prevent injuries (Gleim McHugh, 1997; Marek et al., 2005; Schilling, 2000). The use of stretching as part of warm up routines comes from the belief that stretching will aid in athletic performance and help prevent injury as well as decrease muscle stiffness, increase range of motion, alleviate pain (Schilling Stone, 2000; Unick, Kieffer, Cheesman, Freeney, 2005). Recently, many studies have been conducted to determine which types of stretching such as static stretching or dynamic stretching, is better for improving strength, speed, power and force production, as well as whether the stretching prior to athletic competition would have an effect on the performance (Church, Wiggins, Crist, 2001; Fletcher Jones, 2004; Unick, Kieffer, Cheesman, Freeney, 2005). From the first glance at the poem one can figure out the personal touches of its writer who genuinely described the days and nights of the places, streets and cities that he had been to. It probably was Eliot himself to nourish such rich observations from his abundant experience; Mathiessen describes it as Prufrock seems to spring from Eliot s detached super cultivated fastidious young man from Harvard; (Mathiessen, 1958, 59). Handicaps include things such as earpieces that play loud noises so your thoughts become interrupted, or weights around parts of the body if you re strong. Taking off the handicaps, even temporarily, results in punishment for apparent unfair use of their brain/face/etc. Furthermore, the government enforces the handicaps as a notion to be regarded as what God have them , even though the government gave the people the handicaps, altering what the true God/universe/biology gives a person, which is the exact opposite of what the government gives them. This is shown when Hazel says He did the best with what God gave him, when she talks about the stuttering announcer. This means the government conditions the people to regard the government as a higher power, and takes away the citizens abilities to recognize the injustices of the system. Therefore, the government is using an elaborate brainwashing scheme. Summary of the Text: The biography of Coretta: The Story of Coretta Scott King, was the first biography made depicting Coretta s life, goals, and success. The book was written by a close friend of hers whose name is Octavia Vivian. The story tells how Coretta, as a young woman, had grown up in Alabama. She later went to Antioch College, and later found out that she, as a colored young woman, would not be allowed to teach, mix, or mingle with the whites in the state of Ohio. She later explored a musical career in Boston where she was to meet her future husband Martin Luther King, Jr (Vivian). Coretta was born to her parents, whose names were Bernice McMurry and Obadiah Scott, and grew up and was raised on her parent s farm located in Heiberger, Alabama. Since she grew up during the time and era of segregation, she, as a child, attended a one room school house and later graduated from Lincoln Normal School from a town close by called Marion, Alabama. Vivian also mentions that Coretta s mother was a school bus driver for all the colored children to be able to attend that particular school (Vivian). The Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics Introduction The Egyptian hieroglyphs were a prescribed writing system by the ancient Egyptians to represent their language, it was a combined system with logographic and alphabetic elements. Logographic systems were the earliest form of writing system, which were used in Africa, China and Central America (History world, 2015). Egyptians used hieroglyphs for religious literature on papyrus and wood. The early hieroglyphs dates back to 3,300 BCE and was still used up until the end of the fourth century CE. This was when the non Christian temples were closed and their monumental was no longer needed. Many other important Greeks believed that the Egyptian hieroglyphs were sacred, so they referred to them as holy writing . The word hieroglyphs comes from the Greek (hiero meaning holy and glypho means writing). He was created by a loss of innocence that Salinger suffered in the war. He does not wish for anyone else to lose that innocence as well. This is just how Holden Caulfield feels. He is reaching that point of adulthood, and he is scared. He wishes for time to stop and he wants to be a protector of innocence, as he believes it is a primary virtue to life. When bringing up the theme of innocence, Holden Caulfield represents how Salinger felt about the war one hundred percent. Gloria Anzaldua s To Live in the Borderlands (1987) and Justin Simien s Dear White People (2014) had a couple things in common when related to identity. In the poem, she talks about being between the borderlands and trying to find who you are based on where you are from and where you are now. I see a similar concept of not being able to decide who you really are in several characters in Dear White People. Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the registration system. The three Tension I will discuss are autonomy vs. connectedness , novelty vs. predictability , and openness vs. closedness . The four managing strategies for these dialectical tensions are: selection, separation, neutralization, and reframing. A way in which this is easily recognizable which way your relationship is between autonomy and connectedness, Is whether the other person is saying I or is saying we . This tension happens often in romantic relationships when one person wants to be with the other all the time, while the other feels suffocated and has a need for individuality. Thus, too much integration comes with the loss of autonomy and individuality, whereas extreme separation limits connection and can threaten the relationship. (Sahlstein, E., Dun, T. 2008, p.37). Therefore either Autonomy or connectedness in a relationship, too much of one or the either can issues emerge. A personal example of an experience that I ve had is with my best friend and I. A Report On The World The Glyptodon is one of the best in my opinion of the reinforced armored animals that proceeded onto the Americas; they are found from the Eocene Epoch to the Pleistocene through Holocene Epoch. During the Pleistocene, these herbivorous animals reached their great evolutionary changes due to some forced adaptation. They were large mammmals, reaching in body size from several hundred kilograms to two hundred kilograms; they were the size of a small volts wagon beetle and possessed amazing features with no comparison among living animals at that time that made Glyptodon a peculiar specimen. Some features include having an immobile back bone/spine (that connects to the neck); hypselodont teeth made of an outside layer of some type of hard cement like product known as cementum, a tougher outer shell and a unique skull. Geology Glyptodon is speculated to have come from South America. Their fossil has been found in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Glyptodon fossils discovered in Brazil, consist of clavipes (genus type) had the largest array. Its distribution includes north, northeast, and southeast Brazil. Glyptodon reticulatus another genus fossil has only been discovered in southern Brazil. Glyptodon has also been other places such as Bolivia, Paraguay and western Uruguay lately have been discovered. Fossil linked to Glyptodon in northeast Brazil has been connected to Glyptotherium (genus Of Glyptodon), limiting the circulation of Glyptodon to the southern region of Brazil. ... • 45. Differences Between New England Settlers And Chesapeake... When the English settled into the New World, they were split up into two sections, the Chesapeake region and the New England region. Although the English settled both, the two regions were severely different from each other when they were brought about. The New England and Chesapeake colonies differed in three ways: their reason for venturing over, economy, and population. These major differences were what shaped our nation today and what will continue shaping our nation in the future. When the Mayflower sailed over to the New World, on the boats were Puritans that were looking for a change in the way that their religion was practiced where the Chesapeake settlers came over for gold. Because the Chesapeake settlers were too interested in gold, they did not settle down and get ready for the harsh winters to come; leaving them unprotected to the fierce winter. The New England settlers were settles and ready, but they did loose a few men to the bitter cold, however not as many as the Chesapeake settlers did. The economy of the two regions also greatly differed because of the terrain that they landed on. Because the land in the south was much more fertile than in the north, the southern colonies thrived in rice and tobacco, profiting greatly. In New England the settlers could not grow anything in the rocky terrain and were forced into fishing, building, and farming. However, not much farming went on because of the infertile soil. In the Chesapeake slaves were also a main part of their economy. The slave trade made them very wealthy because of their closeness to the West Indies. They would be shipped many slaves and then use them to harvest their crops and plant their land. Soon, the slaves outnumbered white settlers by about four to one. When the English sailed over to the New World, there were only a handful of them, that is, until slavery was introduced. • 46. Examples Of Greed In Huckleberry Finn Michelle Callahan November 5, 2014 ENGL 2328 6001 8W2 Violence and greed are two themes that run rampant through all of Huckleberry Finn, driving the story along. Just when you begin to think things have calmed down, something else happens to bring the themes back into the picture and shatter the false sense of peace achieved by the slow float down the river. The characters are impelled to continue living dangerously, despite the many other options available to them, to try and improve their station in life. The violence and greed both come in early on, and it s no surprise that the two are wrapped up together in a profound way. Huck s dad, Pap, comes back into the picture, and the readers quickly find out that Huck has been abused many times in the past. Huck recalls how his father hasn t been seen in a year and Huck was just fine with that as Pap used to always whale [Huck] when he was sober and could get his hands on [Huck] and Huck would have to hide out in the woods to get away from his father (Twain 113). This skill ends up serving Huck well later, when he has to hide from many other men who are representations of his father. Pap comes out of hiding, only because he heard that his son had come into a large sum of money and he wants it for his own. He tells Huck that he hain t heard nothing but about [Huck] bein rich. Roberson SOCI 4421.01 Defining Racism February 22, 2011 Professor Harris Response Paper: Defining Racism In this article by Beverly Daniel Tatum, she uses her various life experiences to show the issues that come along with attempting to define racism in America. There are several external issues that come not only from defining racism, but with separating racism from prejudice. In dispelling preconceived notions that these two words are interchangeable, Tatum makes several distinctions in the meaning and application of the two words in everyday life. Before going further into the separating factors of the two words, Tatum discusses how unintentional our prejudices can be. Throughout her article, Tatum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to her, prejudice is an inescapable product of the racist soceity in America. She goes on to further explain the evolution of internalized oppression, which is when members of stereotyped groups internalizes and perpetuates the stereotyped categories of his or her group. In addressing the issue of intenalized oppression, Tatum gives some responsibility for the state of racism to the very people who suffer from it. In the article, Tatum uses the definition of racism that is given by David Wellman in his book Portraits of White Racism, which says that racism is a system of advantage based on race (Tatum, 1997). This definition is something that I found to be very interesting. In many cases, racism is not defined to include the advatages that come from its existance. Instead racism is seen as a singular act, and never as a wholistic system that subtly disadvantages a specific group of people. When discussing how to end racism, no one ever gives solutions to erradicate the subleminal and covert racism that permeates every system from education to healthcare, because that would shoot down the ideal that in America is an equal and fair place for achieving one s dreams. In the last section of her article, Tatum address whether or not racism is exclusive to Whites or whether it is applicable to all people regardless of race. In this section, she is very specific is stating that the

While there are various definitions and aspects that can define this genre, it is usual depicted as having an anti hero set in a realistic setting while trying to fight inner demons and the outer world surrounding problems simultaneously. As any genre, it has noticeable tropes that can place it within this spectrum. Over the years, since the first decade of film noir, society has changed, causing the genre to adapt. The changes are not limited to being on film, but also to those within other forms of media, such as television and literature. • 52. An Abusive Relationship Of The Scarlet Letter Divorce. If you have left an abusive marriage you are either headed in this direction or are there now. The scarlet letter D is one many do not foresee being attached to their name. It was not a word I ever expected to find attached to mine. Ever. In fact, had you asked me in my younger years if I believed I would ever wear the title of divorcee you would have received a loud resounding no. I would never be one of those people. That would have honestly been my answer. Truly. Taking the step to leave an abusive relationship takes great amounts of courage. Walking away from the aspects of financial security, family for your children, stability (what little may exist), your home and so forth is not an easy decision to make. You make a choice, take that first scary step and trust that if you fall, the pain will be less than the pain you have been experiencing. Oftentimes the pain is not less and in fact, ends up worse than what you left behind. For a woman with children, when the choice is made to leave, there is the new responsibility of solely being the provider for her children in every way possible. Food, shelter, clothing, school needs, all fall on that mama who has chosen to protect her children from the wolf who longs to devour. You see, when you leave an abuser, there is no financial support. There is no co parenting. There is no concern on the part of the abuser for those children. There is only the need to win. The need to take down the woman who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They should feel proud that their support is the thing that will lead to success in either the rebellion or the war. Their sheer persuasion through their rhetoric is the key instrument for this support. A key part of both Catiline and King George s speech are the specific words used. Rhetoric, the study of effective speaking and writing, is employed by many powerful politicians. In his speech, Catiline begins by recognizing the virtus (courage) and fides (faith) of his followers in order to draw them in and get them to listen to what he has to say. He cites them as the reason why the opportune event, the election of consuls with war distracting those who would stop the election of Catiline, had not occurred without reason. This allows for King George s subjects to feel close to him and like he truly cares about them. Catiline then moves to the tactic of fear as he continues his speech.
