the effectiveness of captioned video in improving learners skill. However, many of prior studies did
not provide exact measurement on which part(s) learners paid attention to when they watched
captioned and non captioned video. The absence of precise measurement limited the finding of the
previous studies (Gass, Sydorenko, Winke 2013). Therefore, using eye tracking device, they wanted
to observe how often foreign languagelearners read captions on captioned videos. They also

A Comparison Of The Seven Year Itch, Trifles
In the past few weeks we have read several plays, The Seven Year Itch, Trifles, and Pomp and
Circumstance. Many aspects of them have stuck out to me, such as the setting and the personalities
of the characters in them. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in
different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in
social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated.
The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play
takes place is 1952. There is a big difference between this play and Trifles; women had more
freedom to do what they wanted and some of them even held jobs now, although rather low ... Show
Up until the 1940 s women were pretty much property to their fathers and husbands. They cleaned
and did most of all the housework, while men went out and worked. In the early years of the 1900s
women were not allowed to own property in their own name; the woman s property that she did
own became her husband s when married. Women who protested in the Progressive Movement
were reported as being neurotic, wanting to intimidate men, be hysterical and homosexual. In only
four states were women allowed to vote, most urban areas were less tolerable of this issue (
Progressive ). Trifles is an accurate example of the treatment women had in the American home.
Mrs. Wright was basically a prisoner in her own home. The women noticed things such as broken
jars, the unclean towel, and for some reason, a dead canary stuffed into the quilting basket, which
shown that she was unhappy with her new life. Mrs. Wright used to love to sing, but her husband
made her quit. While the men belittled the women s investigations around the Wright home, the
women pretty much solved the crime. They did keep Mrs. Wright out of trouble by not telling the
men about their new discoveries. That goes to show that women tend to pay more attention to the
finer details while it may go unnoticed by an uncaring eye
