Aaron Hernandez Research Paper
An Honored Man s Struggle Kaitlynd Gardner An Honored Man s Struggled Even though you
may look at a celebrity and think they live a life of luxury, a lot of them go through things you d
never believe, things you have never seen, experience eventful happenings that change their
whole life. On November 6th, 1989, Aaron Hernandez, tight end for the New England Patriots,
was born. Although he lived in luxury, Hernandez s life was a struggle before he went bigshot at
the University of Florida. His mother, turned to the courts for bankruptcy protection when he
was a child. When Hernandez was in sixth grade, Terri, his mother, began taking bets for an
illegal gambling organization. The Police later seized reams of evidence from the home. He did
not know about his mother s doings, at least it is hard to say what he did and did not know at
that time. Terri was also married to an ex convict who was previously married to his cousin.
Hernandez was no stranger to the streets as a teenager and he definitely knew his way around
Bristol, even though he was an honor student. He was involved in a volatile underworld of gangs,
guns, drugs and violence. He has been linked, by prosecutors and a civil lawsuit, to a violent
series of assaults, shootings, and three killings. For 30 years, Aaron Hernandez was known on the
streets of Bristol as The King.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The victims who were shot and killed, were Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, and it was told by
news reports that the two were spotted at the same Boston Nightclub as Hernandez was the nights
of the murders. A grand jury then charged Hernandez with two counts of first degree murder. He
was also charge with assault and weapons in connection to the case. Hernandez s lawyers then
released a statement, claiming that the former athlete was innocent of the charges and looked
forward to his day in court .

The Theme Of Unity In Revolutionary Summer, By Joseph J....
Unity in Revolution
Throughout the year of 1776, Americans developed ideas of independence from their mother
country, Great Britain, which turned into a necessary cause that was fought for. Revolutionary
Summer, by Joseph J. Ellis, goes into detail about the relationship between the Continental Congress
and the Continental Army during that summer. His work elaborates on the mistakes of American
leaders, as well as those made by Britain, and how they affected the war. Communication became
important on both sides, and it was vital for the colonies to agree on how to reach the common goal
of freedom. Ellis historical account of 1776 highlights the theme of unity and how it shaped the
events of that summer.

When it came time to battle at Kip s Bay, the soldiers ditched their knowledge and made it difficult
for them to fight with ease. Washington had attempted to establish order by instructing officers to
make a stand behind a stone wall, but the men just ran past him , which created further chaos (181).
The battle ended up being one of the lowest points in the whole war since the Continental Army had
failed to maintain their unity, which led to a disheartened group torn apart by agony. After uniting
in declaring independence, the different states within the colony were eager with their ability to
construct their own laws. They became too preoccupied with their own governments that they did
not work as one body to strengthen the Continental Army. Throughout the summer, although there
was The Cause , there was no such thing as We the people of the United States(114). There was
then a lack of soldiers, which made it difficult for the Continental Army to fight against their
enemy since they lost people quickly. The lack of unification between the states and their leaders
lead to losses on the battlefield in New York. There were still many people, especially in New
York and New Jersey, who remained loyal to the king despite the growing momentum for

Strategic Bombing During World War II
World War II began September 1, 1939, the day after Germany invaded neutral Poland. Great
Britain and France declared war on Germany the two days after the invasion. Throughout the war
the bombing of major cities was practiced by both the allies and axis powers. The British and
Americans came up with a more accurate and effective bombing tactics. This tactic is called
strategic bombing . Strategic bombing was sustained aerial attack on railways, harbours, cities,
workers housing, and industrial districts in enemy territory The United Statesand Britain had
justified reasons for the aerial bombings of German and Japanese cities as they were trying to
protect their people from a ruthless dictator. Before the British began bombing the Germans... Show

These bombing had no purpose except to terrorize Japan into surrendering. The bombings took
place towards the ending months of WWII and had killed about 100,000 people and wiped out
about half the city. The US military had waited for a clear and windy night to inflict maximum
damage, and on March 9, 1945 the conditions were perfect. Three hundred B29 bombers dropped
nearly 500,000 cylinders of napalm and petroleum jelly on the most densely populated areas of
Tokyo (Carney). This raid also known as Operation Meetinghouse is considered the most
destructive bombing ever. If the Allies had lost the war they would have had severe repercussions

Hezbollah the Terrorist Organization Essay
Hezbollah:
Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that originated in Lebanon in 1982. In just more than twenty
years Hezbollah has proved itself to be an effective terrorist organization. Hezbollah is much more
than just a terrorist organization. In Lebanon it has become a major political party and social force
to be reckoned with, as well as a major supporter of other terrorist groups. Hezbollah is a powerful
organization and this power has led to its dominance in the world of terror.
Hezbollah was formed in 1982 by radical Lebanese Shiites who wanted to create an Islamic state in
Lebanon and to free their land of Israeli domination (Byers, 2003). These extremists called their
group Hezbollah, in English this translates to Party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hatred for Israel was compounded by Israel s occupation of part of Lebanon. The removal of
foreigners from Lebanese soil was considered a just cause and this ideological mission earned
Hezbollah the support of many of the citizens of Lebanon and the rest of the Arab world.
Israel was not the only foreigner in Lebanon. The United Nations also, had French and American
soldiers stationed in Lebanon as UN peacekeepers (Byers, 2003). This did not, please Hezbollah,
who wanted all foreigners off Lebanese soil. On April 18, 1983, Hezbollah finally struck. A
Hezbollah operative drove an explosive laden van into the U.S. embassy in Beirut, Lebanon
killing sixty three individuals (Byers). Encouraged by this success Hezbollah then struck again on
October 23, 1986, using suicide bombers in vehicles to blow up both the U.S. Marine Barracks
and the French Paratroop Barracks, killing 241 Americans and 58 French. By, February 26, 1984,
just four months after the devastating attack on the Marine Barracks the United States pulled its
forces out of Lebanon (Byers).
This departure of the American forces was a major triumph for Hezbollah. They had pioneered a
new effective weapon, the suicide bomber. More important though, they had chased off an
imperialist invader and by doing

The Emergence of Appalachian Stereotypes in 19th Century...
In the world of Appalachia, stereotypes are abundant. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy,
bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. Mountain women are seen as diligent,
strong, hard willed, and overall sturdy and weathered, bearing the burden of their male counterparts.
These ideas of mountainlife did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational
nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously
mislead and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia. These stories, written and told by
outsiders, served very little purpose to Appalachian natives other than means of humiliation and
degradation. They served mostly to convince readers of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These proliferated the idea of unkempt and unruly natured people, pastoral, lazy and at the same
time content to remain in a disparagingly hostile existence. These writers and illustrators were
often men who traveled through the mountain regions and spent time with the people there
(McNeil, 59). They were frequently invited to stay with families who were honored to have
them as guests, and treated to every hospitality an Appalachian family could afford. When James
Lane Allen, who was a teacher in Lexington KY for twelve years, decided to change careers in
1885, traveled to New York to become a writer, while there he was told to find a definite field and
explore it for literacy materials. (McNeal, 59) Deciding to return to Kentucky, Allen began
publishing his works in magazines in 1886, his work primarily focusing on Kentucky as two
distinct regions, the civilized Bluegrass Region and the rough Cumberland Mountains. In James
Lane Allen s Through Cumberland Gap on Horseback, the mention is made to the beauty of the
land and that the climate was just the same but that traveling to the mountain region was not only
difficult as they had to take a train then a wagon ride, followed by a trek on horseback, but a
lengthy process. Among the experiences recorded Allen describes the meeting of several locals and

What Is The Difference Between AAOIFRS And IFRS
Comparison Between AAOIFI IFRS
Under the economic globalization and the rapid development of Islamic finance in recent years, the
business activities with Islamic countries became a worldwide focus. However, it is notable that the
conventional accounting system would face a challenge with the compliance of Shariah. Therefore,
the Islamic accounting standards AAOIFI were developed due to of the existing problem with the
adoption of the convention accounting standards (IFRS). In this chapter, to illustrate the difference
among IFRS and AAOIFI, the general description of these two accounting standards will be
presented, followed by the distinguishing between the adoption as well as the comparison of some
specific accounting treatments. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, the company can issue shares, and hand out the dividends, or issue bonds and pay the
interest; moreover, taking a loan from the bank with interest is an alternative. However, in Islamic
accounting, the interest is not allowed, which prevent the company from raising the fund through
last two options. Thus, the Mudaraba is widely applied in Islamic economies. Mudaraba is a kind of
partnership which one party provides money to a commercial enterprise, and the funds are managed
by a third party based on Mudaraba investment management agreement. For example, the depositor
can authorize the Islamic bank to manage their funds, and get profit from the return on the funds
invested.
For the Mudaraba investment found, AAOIFI standards require presenting the funds in a separate
item between liabilities and equity in the statement of financial position. On the contrary, compliant
with IFRS, the fund will be recorded as liability.

Comparing Kant s Argument Of Pareto Efficiency
In assessing arrangements to solve the problem of free riding, economists claim to be guided by
the principle of Pareto efficiency. That is, they claim to put forward arrangements that will make at
least some people better off without any detriment to others, in terms of their own happiness. If they
are serious about this efficiency criterion then any proposed arrangement must surely accord with
the preferences of the people involved, as revealed through their actual behaviour. It follows that
the ultimate test of any allegedly Pareto efficient arrangement must surely be to convince all of the
parties affected that they are better off or at least, no worse off under the proposed arrangement.
Indeed, the consent and agreement of all parties

African Americans Should NOT Be Allowed In Law Enforcement
Just the other day as I was watching the news I became aware of another police involved shooting
of an unarmed African American man. With that being said after watching the video a handful of
times I came to the conclusion that this man was not posing an intimate treat to law enforcement
offices. This can be said to be true because the man didn t appear to be doing anything out of the
ordinary. In fact it looked like he was doing what law enforcement would have wanted him to do.
Nevertheless another unarmed man was killed, this time with his hands in the air. This particular
incident then made me think about our first live session. I believe that to be the case because we

Reliance on Technology
Rodger Covino 21NOV13 COM/150 Week 7 Introduction and Conclusion Today, the world is
more dependent on technology than ever before. More than 90% of Americans own a
computerized device (Gahran, 2011). People received text messages and emails on their cell
phones, go online to order food, cars are able to park themselves, and while driving, the lights are
controlled by centralized computer system (Greenman, 1998). The truth of the matter is, that
people have become so dependent on technology that they are not prepared for any type of service

and the increase in disruptive weather patterns, people should start taking steps to sever their...

Amazon has many reports of fraud concerning both buyers and sellers. Since Amazon is only the
company who brings the two parties together, they will investigate but are not liable for fraud.
The ads that Google uses have been unknowingly infected with viruses and malware (Mills,
2010). The people behind the Google viruses and the Amazon fraud have one goal; to steel your
money. With these sites being accessible on mobile devices, makes it that much easier to
acquire. Devices such as cell phones and laptops can make people lose focus on what they are
doing. For example, in the article Tweet less, kiss more , Bob Herbert talks about a certain
female driver who almost caused an accident along the Washington New York Highway. She was
talking on her cell phone while driving recklessly by changing lanes carelessly. That careless
driving could have caused a serious accident in which could have led to severe bodily injury or,
worse, death to her or other drivers. This act shows that over reliance on communication devices
may cause people to lose concentration and focus when it is needed the most. Technology has
had a huge effect on the way people communicate. A lot of people have gotten rid of their old
wired phones in favor of only having a cell phone. A study in June 2010 showed that more than
one in four homes only has cellular service, up from 13.6 percent in 2007 (Blumberg, 2011). It is
not just urban areas that have seen an increase in cellular

The Hay Wain Analysis
A1: Initial thoughts Viewing John Constable s painting The Hay Wain makes me appreciate that
there were established artists in early 19th century. The painting is one of the most studied and
sought after in the world and viewing it allows me to understand why majority of people are
interested with it (Wikimedia Commons, 2017). The painting evokes a feeling of naturalness and
allowed me to connect with the painter s point of view. Constable was trying to showcase his
country side as a natural green place and viewing the painting it is evident he achieved this. The
aim of visual arts is to help the artist to communicate a particular aspect that the audience can relate

this regard, the Hay Wain is important in today s world as it helps the generations that does not

in the early 19th century. Apart from learning, the art is important in urging the current generation
to protect the environment and be mindful of the natural habitats. This is because a look at the art

Screwtape Letter Essay
In the Screwtape Letter, by C.S. Lewis, Srewtape insists that all pleasures are created by the
Enemy, meaning God, and that demons have not figured out how to create them. It s an idea
commonly seen in Christian theology. God brought all things into this world to be good, and those
things can and have been corrupted by demons and the lot. What Screwtape is saying is that, God
wants people to experience pleasure, and that it is a demon s job to corrupt a person s sense of
that pleasure. Screwtape brings up the idea multiple times throughout his letters. He mentions it
mainly with talking about love and corrupting Wormwood s human s idea of love. His focus on it
seems to show some kind of fascination. Possibly that of envy. Not in the sense... Show more

Surely if God created all pleasures, then all pleasures are good, and thus, sin cannot exist. However,
each person possess free will, and with that free will, must choose a path that brings them to God.
Therefore, without some temptations, free will would be rather pointless, as everyone would
forcibly be in the grace of God.
While that s a possibility, a much more likely reason is presented in the Screwtape Letters.
Which is, once again, that demons corrupt that which God has already establish. Screwtape is
constantly telling Wormwood how to use and abuse the free will which God has given humans,
and even mentions at one point how easy it would be for God to just draw everyone to him, but
how it would violate free will. So really, it is a combination of both free will and God punishing
those who fall from his path and allow themselves to be controlled by demons.
In conclusion, all pleasures were made by God. They were not intended to be sin, however,
demons corrupted them into sin, to draw people into their domain. Humans, having free will, are
freely influenced off the path to God into that sin, by demons. In Screwtape Letters, Screwtape
frequently talks about using pleasures and exploiting free will for Wormwood to ensure he captures
the soul of the human he s assigned

Apple Rhetorical Analysis
The commercials made for Apple and Thai Life Insurance employ intelligent storytelling, feelings,

everyone who wants to make a difference in life by going down uncharted waters.
This is a rhetorical analysis of the commercials made for Apple and Thai Life Insurance

influence its audience or market. The two ads shall be compared by analyzing the effects of the
visual elements, noticeable features of the transcript, concerning core values each ad/company
promotes, the way each ad manages time and screen estate, and how they all relate to producing
effects. Advertisements usually make pathological, ethical and logical appeals to their audience
with the ad creators choosing to emphasize on one or two appeals. The two ads in focus are
unique in their own ways with different ideas and messaging. First, a brief description of the
two ads is necessary since the contents therein are the focus of the rhetorical analysis. The Apple

Theme Of Mending Wall And Birches
To know the meaning of these two poems, Mending Wall and Birches , we first must understand
what are these poems about on a literal level. Mending Wall tells about the story of a rock wall,
that is build to separate two properties (the speaker and his neighbor) in the countryside, and
something is always destroying it. On the other hand, we have the poem of Birches and the
speaker talks about how he does not like how the birches bend because of the storm so he imagines
that children are the ones who climb the birchtree as high as they can and then when they have
reached the point where the birch can support their weight any more, they bend the birch because
the kick their legs and pull the tree down to one side. With this information we can discuss and try

In the poem of Mending Wall , Frost uses soundto enrich and enhances his theme/meaning of the
poem. He writes in a soft and harmonious way, almost in a reflective tone. He enriches more his
theme of separation/barrier building to give empathy towards the speaker and the way he asks
himself, why is the stonewall still there separating both the speaker and his neighbor. Before I
built a Wall/I d ask to know/What I was walling in or walling out,/And to whom I was like to
give offense. However, there is the implication that something even deeper is going on and Frost
uses a harsh tone for it. When he inscribes a certain type of dialogue between the speaker and his
neighbor, the neighbor s response is very harsh and discordant. My apple trees will never get
across/And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him/He only says/Good fences make good
neighbors . With this response the reader can connect with the speaker and see how harsh the
speaker s neighbor response is. Here we can see the theme of this poem is that a respectful distance
between neighbors is the recipe for harmonious relationships: Good fences make good neighbors .

Foreign Language Learners Behavior On Captioned Videos
Gass, Sydorenko, Winke (2013) investigated foreign language learners behavior on captioned
videos. Their investigation aroused from various previous studies that showed positive evidence of
the effectiveness of captioned video in improving learners skill. However, many of prior studies did
not provide exact measurement on which part(s) learners paid attention to when they watched
captioned and non captioned video. The absence of precise measurement limited the finding of the
previous studies (Gass, Sydorenko, Winke 2013). Therefore, using eye tracking device, they wanted
to observe how often foreign languagelearners read captions on captioned videos. They also
intended to investigate whether specific foreign language and the familiarity of the video content
play role in learners attention to the captions.
Thirty three college level foreign language learners who are in their fourth semester were
included in this study. They are English speaker learners of Arabic (n = 7), Chinese (n = 7),
Russian (n = 8), and Spanish (n = 10) with no experience of studying abroad. Twenty two
participants are female and the rest are male. The writers were aware that their participants might
had different level of second language proficiency despite the similarity in the length of learning.

You can choose between a portable immersion unit and a full sized container blender. The
portable immersion unit is designed for individual needs and is portable enough to carry to the
office for on the spot use. To make more than one glass of smoothie at a time you will need a
container blender. These electric blenders sit on your counter top. They are used to make large
batches of smoothies. They have a lot of power and can even blend ice and frozen fruits.
When choosing your smoothie blender you should consider how often you will be using it.
Different blenders run for different periods of time, if you are planning to use the blender for
longer periods of time then you need to get a heavy duty blender that will be able to handle the
load. Usually the run time of a blender depends on the RPM (Rotations per Minute) of the motor. A
good rule of thumb is that the lower the RPM the longer the run time though this is not always the
case.
Blenders run at a very high speed so it is important to get a blender that is sturdy. If you leave
your blender unattended it should not walk across the counter because of the vibrations from its
motor. Your blender should also come with a lid that fits snugly. The lid should not pop off and
cause a mishap if you are not there supervising. You should get a blender that has a tight lid and a
heave base, such a blender will be much safer to

focuses on information students need to succeed in M.S. programs: how to find the right program,
and a major problem that they will likely face during online matriculation.
A Master of Science degree (in Latin, Magister Scientaie) is a postgraduate academic Master s
Degree awarded by universities worldwide. In abbreviated form, the degree may appear on
academic transcripts variously as MSc., M.Sc., M.Sci., M.Si., Sc.M., M.S., MS, AM or SM. After

The latter option is most common. It involves writing and defending a thesis or completing a
research project which represents the culmination of the material learned.
Admission to a Master s program is normally contingent upon holding a bachelor s degree. Should
the student desire to graduate from a doctoral program, Master s level training is a prerequisite. In
some fields or graduate programs, work on a doctorate can begin as soon as the bachelor s degree is
finished. Some programs offer a joint Bachelor s and Master s degree after four to five years of
study. At the completion of these programs both a B.A. and an M.S. can be awarded.
For thesis projects, students will typically work with an academic adviser to propose a topic,
write a research prospectus and draft a final paper describing the research results. The research
process takes about one year. The thesis is then reviewed by the student s academic committee who
must approve the paper before the student can proceed to graduation. If revisions are needed,
graduation could be delayed for one or more semesters.
Many graduate schools have residency requirements to complete a degree. A student may be
required to spend at least one year living on campus and must accumulate a minimum number of
course credits to be considered eligible for his degree. As online graduate education advanced, this
residency requirement has been adjusted. Matriculation online may

Gender In The Color Purple
The overarching trauma of this novel is highlighted by Celie s relationship with Shug Avery.
Though the brutality continues, Celie still manages to find an escape allowing her to come
closer to the line of thriving. For Celie her first notion of Shug comes from her abusive husband
s obsession with the singer. Her growing sense of imagination and curiosity began to develop a
more nuanced character. The reader is given a new looking at the character; Celie crosses the
threshold of survival to thriving only for a few fleeting seconds. Our first encounter of this
diminishing joy unfortunately encapsulated a well rounded sense of author s purpose. And then
I think about Shug Avery. I know what he doing to be done to Shug Avery and maybe she like it.
I put my arm around him (Walker, 12). There are several key elements that the author has
intentionally created. The first being the motif of sex, for Celie sex has been a brutal massacring
for her body, which resulted in two heartbreaking children. While these children were taken from
her and killed, Walker highlights the wedding night sex scene shifting from brutal to sad. The
reader can clearly see that the idea of Shug is what allows Celie to escape from her horrid reality.
As Charmaine Eddy notes in his paper entitled Marking the body: the material dislocation of
gender in Alice Walker s The Color PurpleBecause Shug s picture has initiated lesbian sexual desire
in Celie, this imitation must be seen as a transvestism, a drag

Descriptive Essay About Myself
With my green plastic safety scissors from my pencil case, I hid under the craft table in my living
room and sawed off my blonde bangs until there were only millimeter long blonde sprigs of hair
left sticking from the top of my forehead.
This was just the first of many times that I tried to change my appearance to escape the shadow of
my sister and become my own unique person.
At the age of four, I lacked any formal hairdresser education so my DIY haircut forced me to wear
many wide headbands to hide the hideous sprigs of butchered hair, but in my mind my mission was
successful, because I finally looked different than my sister.
Anna, my identical twin, looks exactly like me, except for the odd freckle, our slightly different
nose structures and the slight chip on her upper left tooth. I can always tell us apart so I hardly
notice that I basically have a clone following me around all the time, but for others knowing
which twin I am proves challenging. It didn t help when my mom dressed in matching outfits
from head to toe. For my first Halloween my brother dressed up like a firefighter and Anna and I
were his dalmatians, then he was a farmer and we were pigs.
When we turned five we decided to pick out our own clothes. In kindergarten Anna and I decided
that she would only wear pink, purple and orange while my wardrobe would only contain blue,
green and yellow clothing. This color coding system worked for the next five years and from my

I was doing my daily chores, that I do everyday. Not knowing of what was ahead of me. I sat

The Three Major Characteristics Of The Rice Riots
Rice riots
Rice riots happened in 1918 when the Japanese government was involved in the Siberia
intervention and the economy of Japan was in war prosperity that the export and industrial
development was growing rapidly. To maintain the competitiveness of the Japanese exports and
industrial product, the government set the purchasing price of the rice merchant from the
peasants, which was much lower than the market price to lower the industrial production cost of
the raw materials. As a result, the living standard of the general peasants and workers in the city
had even worsened under the prosperity despite the huge growth in industry and the economy. In
May 1917, the rice market price starts to rise rapidly by 3 yen per koku and the price reached ...

The rice riot indicated the social structure at that time that the peasants and low level workers were
highly exploited and could not even benefit from the development of the economy. This riot meant
the strong dissent to the oppression from the government and the industrial Zaibatsu from the
peasants to normal Japanese people. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic
development style could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot
had led to three major changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing
price of the peasants were raised a little while the government tried to lower the market price by
increasing imports from its colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries
(Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly improved the living standard of the poor. The more
important impact is in the government that Hara Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This
indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the government and the rise of the party politics.
Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet members could be untitled, which indicated a
great progress for the Japanese democracy development. The rice riot also caused the strong
opposition to the left wing ideology in the Japanese government. After the riot, most of the leaders
in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid such a riot happening
again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and strikes (Morgan
2011, 125 134). For instance, even in 1925, a more democratic period, to avoid the spread the
communism in Japan and other left wing ideology, the diet had passed Public Security
Preservation Laws to delegalize the left wing parties. The strong attitude against the left wing
ideology were because of the serious rice

Clear And Concise Outline Of Tarantino s Pulp Fiction
In order to establish a clear and concise outline of Tarantino s work in relation to the
consideration of film being represented as high art, we need to begin with one of his earlier and
more distinguished works, Pulp Fiction. Pulp Fiction is not for the faint of heart and its allure boils
down to a matter of personal preference and judgement, but its magnitude as a filmis a matter of
history. One of the main reasons Pulp Fiction has found so much success and praise in the art
community is that Tarantino ushered in a new era of post modernism in the film industry. Basically,
what aesthetic Postmodernism states is that what already has been done, has been done before and
there is nothing new . Postmodernism can also be distinguished by the... Show more content on

As we previously stated, Tarantino s dialogue is not simply quirky and original. There is a
systematic process behind his choice of dialogue and sequence of events. This is fully
exemplified in an exchange between Jules and one of the kids in the apartment. And the story
of how Wallace had a man thrown out of a four story window for giving his wife a foot massage.
Tarantino is laying the groundwork with his dialogue for a scene in which Vincent agrees to
take Mia Wallace (wife of Marsellus Wallace) out on a date, on his bosses orders. When Mia
accidentally overdoses, Vincent rushes her to his drug dealer, Lance, who resuscitates her with a
shot of adrenaline injected directly into her heart. We then meet Lance s girlfriend, Jody, who
begins to talk about her piercing fetish. This scene is where you get to witness the subtle instances
of dialogue that Tarantino has put into place for a specific pay off in the scenes to come. Tarantino
never actually shows the needle entering the chest, but instead he pans away to a shot in which
everyone glaring over the body jumps back simultaneously as Mia is brought back to life. And then
Jody explains that it was trippy and we contextualize that she has seen the ultimate

Hacking In the Business Society Essay

From history we can observer that human society is easily influenced, and often mislead. There is

Unknown Acid Titration
The standardized concentration of NaOH was used to identify the unknown acids, this value is
shown is experiment 16.1. This mean standardized concentration was 0.0784 M. By titrating a
known amount and concentration of this standardized base to the unknown acid, a titration curve
and its derivative could be plotted in order to find the molar mass and aciddissociation constant.
The first unknown acid titrated, BGYW, was identified to be Maleic acid, C4H4O4. The identity
of the acid was found by taking both the molar mass and pKa into account. However, one pKa
value had a very high percent error. The molar mass is taken more into consideration than the pKa
value as elaborated on in number 4. The shape of the curve shown in Figure 1 also corresponds ...

Table 16 2 1 in the lab manual was used to compare the pKa and molar mass of the unknown acid
to determine the identity. C4H4O4 was the only diprotic acid with comparable molar mass and
pKa values with a 31% error for the molar mass and a 12% error for the second pKa value.
However, the first pKA value comparison had a 157% error which could be due to experimental
error (as shown in Table 1). Increments of NaOH added to reach the endpoint being too large
could have also affected the molar mass difference between the unknown and the actual reference
value. Since the increments were too large, the equivalence point in Figure 1 is slightly off since it
was overshot. Therefore, the initial moles of acid and base were expected to be of lower value than
those referenced. The dV uncertainty shown in the sample calculations page +/ 0.44 mL
displayed this source of error between the calculations of moles of acid, the half equivalence point
and the pKa; accounting partially for the percent error in the molar mass and pKa of the unknown
acid versus Maleic (C4H4O4).
Both Figures 3 and 4 were used to identify unknown acid *B4QK as 3,5 Dimethoxybenzoic
(C9H10O4). The titration curve only had one inflection point, thus one equivalence point as
demonstrated in Figure 3; showing that the acid was monoprotic. The

Agile Methodology For Software Development
A single definition of agile methodology in software development is not easily found. We should
consider agile methodology as an umbrella under which various agile methodologies rest. I will
define agile methodology as an alternative to traditional heavyweight , linear project management
methodologies that is marked by an adherence to and reliance on the individual not as a replaceable
part, constant interactions between the project team and the customer, adaptiveness, customer
collaboration, and responsiveness to change throughout a product s development, which is perpetual.
A major and initial influential force in agile methodology was Dr. Winston Royce. In 1970, he
published an article entitled Managing the Development of Large Software Systems . In this paper,
he argues software development is unlike the sequentially, siloed group phased execution auto
manufacturing sector and proposed an iterative and incremental approach, while also
acknowledging its risks, that today is commonly referred to as agile methodology. Throughout my
reading on the topic, I noted that the push for the use of agile methods in software development has
been referred to as a movement. And at the forefront of this movement is the Agile Alliance. In
2001, the Agile Alliance published the Manifesto for Agile Software Development. I will not
explore this group or its manifesto further other than citing its opening salvo, listed on its website,
in order to further demonstrate the essence

Knowing Flannery O Connor s religious conviction, one cannot overlook this underlying tone in

Open Skies Is an International Policy Concept Which Calls...
Open skies is an international policy concept which calls for the liberalization of rules and
regulations on international aviation industry most specially commercial aviation opening a free
market for the airline industry. Its primary objectives are: to liberalize the rules for international
aviation markets and minimizes government intervention the provisions apply to passenger, all
cargo and combination air transportation and encompass both scheduled and charter services; or to
adjust the regime under which military and other state based flights may be permitted.
For open skies to effect, a bilateral (and sometimes multilateral) Air Transport Agreement has to be

In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the
ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his
memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after
culture, and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the
original ancient mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing
system by paring down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29
characters. Adopted around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of
pictographs like many early forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing
systems.11 The sophisticated navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this
new version of cuneiform would quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. Phoenicia s alphabet
would soon be adopted by the Greeks, who also refined and perfected this writing system to meet
their own needs; likewise the Romans, eager inheritors of all things Greek, adopted the alphabet
for their own use. It could be said that the highly adaptive descendants of cuneiform formed the
basis for the literature of the Classical world. The Phoenician cuneiform alphabet was also adopted
by Jewish culture, providing a medium for Hebrew narrative and progressive sense of history,

Animal Testing Should Not Be Used For Biomedical Research
Millions of animals are used and tested on for biomedical research. Considering this fact, is it really
an ethical approach to satisfying the needs of humans? Animals should not be used for biomedical
research because the experiments are cruel and inhumane. Although animal testing brings more
medical advancement and less human based experiments, it is an expensive way of researching that
produce imprecise outputs and at the same time is a practice of animal cruelty.
What is animal testing? Animal testing is experimentation carried out on living animals. Its
purpose is to research basic biology and diseases and assessing the effectiveness of medicine for
human use (About Animal Testing). Every year in the U.S., millions of animals are utilized as
models in biological and medical research to study human disease, injury, development,
psychology, as well as anatomy and physiology (Biomedical Research). All procedures, even those
relegated as mild , have the potential to cause the animals physical suffering as well as
psychological distress (About Animal Testing). Most animals are killed at the cessation of an
experiment, but some may be reused in subsequent experiments. Animals often suffer greatly in
these studies, as they are inflicted with diseases, traumas, and pain they would not mundanely
experience in order to mimic human conditions.
Numerous different species are utilized around the world, but the most mundane include mice, fish,

The main disadvantage of the MAP packaging is that the presence of excess oxygen induces the
lipid oxidation that results in the rancidity of the meat generating the undesirable off odours

Aperture Analysis Lab
Aperture is a hole within a lens, where light travels into its body. Depth of Field is the area of
the image that looks clear. The aperture impacts the depth of field directly, the larger the aperture
and vice versa, the larger the depth of field. For the picture above, as the aperture gets smaller, the
depth of field gets smaller, thus smaller amounts of the picture appears clearer. As for the picture
below, as the aperture gets bigger, lesser amounts of lightis exposed to the camera, thus the picture
gets darker.
Focal Length is the calculation of an optical distance from where rays of light meet to form a
sharp image of an object. The focal length of a lens is calculated when the lens is focused at
infinity. The longer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notice that as the shutter speed is slower, the water fountain appears more and more still. At the
shutter speed of 1/1000, the water fountain appears frozen. To ensure that we use the correct shutter
speed, we have to use the formula of Shutter Speed = 1/Focal Length. The slower the shutter speed,
the more light it lets in. ISO stands for International Standards Organization, which standardizes the
camera sensitivity ratings. Changing the ISO setting adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor to light.
ISO can also be adjusted to obtain good exposure. As the ISO increases, the camera becomes more
sensitive, thus the image taken at ISO 12900 appears grainier as compared to the image taken at
ISO 100.
To ensure a picture of good quality, we have to maintain the adequate amount of light entering
the camera. For example to shoot a dolphin jumping out of the water, it is taken ISO 320 as the
setting is not very bright, 1/1600 shutter speed to freeze the dolphin jumping out of the water
and f/5.6. However, this aperture gives it a shallow depth of field. Since we want an appropriate
amount of focus in the background and we cannot change the shutter speed or the image will turn
blurry, we change the ISO. To make sure the amount of light entering the camera is same, and
increase of and ISO stop should also have a decrease of an aperture stop. This allows the same
amount of light to enter the camera but a wider depth of

(Medical Schools and Nursing Colleges, 2010). One of the World Health Organization s most
recent areas of concern is addressing mental health. They are focusing on disorders such as
depression, schizophrenia, epilepsy and addictions. The WHO believes that mental and
neurological disorders lead people to a great amount of suffering, dramatically increase their
vulnerability, and lead individuals to a life of poverty. Many people are not aware and tend to
discriminate against people with mental disorders. This discriminations leads to people having
their human rights violated and them being stripped from opportunities that every other citizen
has. If the proper steps are taken to help promote mental health, we will see a great improvement
in the lives of people affected by mental illnesses by helping them to grow and be productive
healthy members of society. In order for the World Health Organization to see these improvements
they need to work with the governments of different countries to improve their laws and policies
about mental illness. These policies need to help address proper treatment plans, prevention plans
and awareness programs. One issue that the World Health Organization is working on fixing
currently is the use of marijuana in adolescence. The World Health Organization has found that use
of marijuana in individuals who started using the drug before the age of 17 has led them to

Compare And Contrast Thoreau And Walden
A Literary Analysis of works by Mary Oliver Henry David Thoreau
Author, Henry David Thoreau and Mary Oliver are both very passionate about nature and what it
has to offer in life, as well as the symbolism behind nature and its creatures in their works of
literature, in Walden , and The House of Light , Both authors discuss their views of nature and the
beauty of the world that they want to make familiar to their audience. In this essay, I ll provide my
reasoning behind this statement.
In Walden , Thoreau talks about his experience living at Walden pond for what he said was two
years, two months and two days where he for the most part, isolated himself from civilization and
supported himself with the help of no one else. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We talk slowly, two women trying/ in a difficult time to be wise./ Roots in the cellar drains,/ I say,
and she replies/ that the leaves are getting heavier/ every year, and the fruit/ harder to gather away.

Mary Oliver was symbolizing this tree as something more than just a tree. I feel that the roots in
the drain that were mentioned were symbolized as her family s roots that are connected to that
tree, and when she says the roots are in the cellar drains, to me that meant that those roots go back
to a very long time ago, maybe as far back as to when the tree was planted or when the house that
it stands over was built.
I really liked Thoreau s belief that the mainstream American lifestyle along with the technology
of it all has really lessened our overall experience of life itself. We re so caught up in wanting the
newest iphone or fanciest car, instead of taking time to enjoy life as it is, without the unnecessary
accessories or what we see as necessities. The quote from Walden that says The mass of men lead

Comparison of Lover and Last Duchess
(A Comparison of Two Poems)
Often times we wonder why people write and say things. We wonder what will happen to those

at home by a tutor. (Rivera) This is surprising because every wrote some of the greatest poems in
the Victorian age. Those two poems are called Porphyria s Lover and The Last Duchess by Robert
Browning.

Compassion Fatigue in Pediatric Oncology Nurses Essay
Pediatric oncology nurses are given the unique opportunity to make connections and build long
term relationship with their patients and families. Standard treatment protocol for many childhood
cancers span over the course of years, with long term surveillance and follow up visits after
treatment has finished. Due to their patient s chronic diagnoses and the acuity of their conditions,
pediatric oncologynurses work in an environment of increased stress. The high stress environment
puts the nurses at an increased risk for compassion fatigue; so it is the responsibility of both the
nurse, and the institution to be aware of the symptoms and to effectively manage the condition
should it arise. Without proper attention to the stress... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurses also provide end of life, and post mortem care. When a patient dies, the nurse often grieves
alongside the family and helps to provide them with emotional support (Hecktman, 2012). Although
the prognoses of childhood cancer have improved drastically over the last 30 years, many children
still succumb to the disease. Nurses are the ones who provide constant bedside care, and often must
confront the limits of what medicine can do for people (Schuster, 2013). This can prove to be
difficult and bring on feelings of hopelessness and as though they are not helping their patients at
all. Patients can leave lasting impacts on the nursing staff, and when multiple children die while in
their care, the nurse may begin to experience cumulative loss. Childhood cancer is the leading
cause of non accidental death for children in Canada, and therefore, pediatric oncology nurses are
often exposed to death on a routine basis, with little time to grieve between the deaths. It is
imperative that nurses are aware of their stressors and how they respond to stress in order to
effectively care for their patients.
Patient care may be at risk if a nurse is experiencing compassion fatigue. Nurses can start to exhibit
distancing or desensitizing behaviors in order to cope with their stressors; thus leading to a
decreased satisfaction in patient care and an ineffective therapeutic relationship. The failure of the
nurse to identify their stress, can

A Summary Of Concrete Angel
The effects from the different forms of abuse in the home can affect a person s development and
self growth. Martina McBride wrote a powerful song called Concrete Angel. This song is about
her adolescent niece whom grew up with an abusive and alcoholic mother. This story is a powerful
message about the effects abuse can have on a young child. Abuse can cause long term mental and
physical damage. This may include learning capability, physical appearance, and personality
identification. Children are subjected mostly to abuse in the home even if the abuse is not directed
toward the child. The three most common types of abuse in the home are physical, sexual, and
emotional abuse. Physical abuse is causing physical harm to one person. This includes... Show more

Statistics show that 72% of all murder suicide cases are incidents of domestic abuse, and in 97%
of murder suicide cases the victims of the murder were women. Martina Mcbride s song Concrete
Angel, tells the story of her abused niece and how she was beaten to death from her mothers
drunken rage. Childhood abuse does not end in childhood. It is a long term effect on how the child
will pursue new relationships and how they will react to specific situations. In personal opinion
parents/guardians should pay attention to certain acts of behaviour in front of their children.
Although no one is perfect, it is important that parents put their children into consideration when
acting upon certain situations. Children are the future of America and every child deserves to
have all the tools necessary to succeed in life. In some cases, the physical effects are temporary;
however, the pain and suffering can cause long term effects such as anxiety and depression as
their brain matures. All forms of abuse take effect on a child s outlook on life and are equally
damaging. Children have the ability to become an extraordinary individual who can one day
change the world. Childhood should be filled with joyful memories and encouragement to chase
your dreams. Lead by example and give the children of today a fighting chance to become

The History Of Cristiano Ronaldo
The History of Cristiano Ronaldo Since the beginning of time humans have found exercise as a
fun way to stay healthy and enjoy life. Although many exercises and sports have been invented
since, one sport has taken the spot light from the others. Soccer also known as football, is a
game played by two teams both containing 11 players on the field and two goalie boxes on each
side of the field. The rules to the game are very simple, the only players allowed to use full
contact with the ball are the goalies other than that the rest of the players cannot touch the ball
with their hands; with the objective being to try to shoot the round ball into your opponent s
goal. Since the start of soccer is have become the most popular sport, in fact according to a 2001
FIFA survey, over 240 million people regularly play soccer in more than 200 countries, in every
part of the world (Murray Bill). With the love soccer has received the world has witnessed great
soccer players, but none like Cristiano Ronaldo from being a father, model, businessman to best
soccer player in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo has definitely left a print in soccer history. On
February 5, 1985 the birth of arguably the greatest soccer player of all time happened in a small
island in Portugal named Madeira. It was through his dads work as an equipment manager at a
boys soccer club where Ronaldo was first introduced to soccer. (Biography.com Editors) Ronaldo s
talent for the sport grew more and more by the age of 10

Share Repurchases and the Protection of
Share repurchases and the protection of shareholders* KATHLEEN VAN DER LINDE**
1 Introduction
From a creditor s perspective there is not much difference between the payment of a dividend in
respect of a share and a payment for the acquisition or repurchase of that share. However, from the
point of view of the shareholder a dividend is a return on capital while a repurchase is a return of
capital to the vendor shareholder. Share repurchases change the structure of the company s share
capital and consequently also the allocation of rights among shareholders.1 A repurchase combines
a distribution to the selling shareholder with an increase in the relative stakes of the non selling
shareholders.2 Alternatively, a repurchase has also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are coerced into either accepting the offer and giving up a part of their interest in the
company, or rejecting it and facing an increase in the relative size of their shareholding.7 If the
company has more than one class of shareholders a proportionate repurchase in a specific class of
shareholders can still result in unfair treatment among different classes. Even in a company with a
single class of shares, a proportionate offer may have a discriminatory effect if the intention is
that particular shareholders will not accept the offer.8 For example, in a going private transaction
a company s management or controllers could use a share repurchase as a way of increasing their
own shareholding to a level where they are able to freeze out the remaining shareholders by
compulsorily acquiring their shares.9 Similarly, in an empowerment transaction the idea may be to
repurchase shares from shareholders other than black investors so that the resultant stake of the
black investors is increased.10
Shareholder protection can be achieved in different ways. Some jurisdictions prescribe procedural
requirements for repurchases while others rely primarily on substantive principles of fairness.
Takeover regulation often addresses the use of repurchases as takeover mechanisms or as defensive
strategies. I make some reference to shareholder protection in the context of takeovers,

questioned her Where is that loud noise coming from? She replied They are still building
houses, you just need to get used to it. I never made friends with my neighbors. But then I did
and we went to school. Now when I went to school I thought it would be like my old school

Educational Facilities For New Building Code Regulations
Educational facilities designed and built between 1950 and 1970 have come to a point in their
building s life cycle that it is time for them to retire. These schools are no longer viable to keep
running because of the financial strain to upgrade to new building code regulations. This means a
flux of educationconstruction is upon us. This also means that these schools, unless they are
private, will be given a bond issue awarded by the state. Traditionally, schools are one of the
tightest budgets to work with because they need to get the most for their money.
One mindset that will save the owner money in the long term is thinking about life cycle cost and
maintenance. One of the biggest issues with any new construction is the maintenance cost of
running the building years after completion. Now this could mean many things from the HVAC to
the paint on the walls. In schools, the interior finishes are not changed very often; therefore, need
special attention. Today interior finishes are being selected more carefully in order to save money
on maintenance cost, longevity, and durability.
A big maintenance cost to schools is the flooring. Traditionally, schools have chosen vinyl
composition tile, or VCT, for the majority of the flooring. When the schools were built sixty years
ago this was the best option for longevity. Today that is not the case. In fact VCT flooring is no
longer financially or ecologically efficient for the progressive future of educational facilities.

Whaling In Japan Research Paper
Japan is one of the few countries that support the practice whaling. For decades, the country has
continued to maintain its right to whale and shown aggressively lobbying with the International
Whaling Commission (IWC) for reconsideration of commercial whaling. Commercial whaling is a
practice that involves the hunting and killing whales for their oil meat, or whalebone. With their
pro stance on whaling, Japan has faced strong international criticism especially from
environmentalists and Western governments, which view Japan as obstructing international efforts
to protect these mammals. This paper will argue that Japan should not be forced to remove the
practice of commercial whaling in order to satisfy the international views. This is because... Show

Even with the court ruled decision by the IWC, the opponents felt that it was not as decisive as
they would have hoped for. The IWC has defended most of Japan s whaling insisting to those
that oppose that the research is solely for research implying that the majority of whales killed by
Japan are taken in an internationally designated haven, which Japan has chosen to ignore
(MacKenzie). The idea of the Whale Wars is likely to continue by animal rights activist and anti
whaling governments. The United Nation s International Court of Justice (ICJ) later ruled that
Japan s scientific research program JARPA II was not what it was suppose to be. This ruling has
also barred Japan from whaling in the Antarctic (MacKenzie). This ruling momentarily stopped
Japan vessels from whaling. In June of 2014, the Prime Minister in Japan Shinzo Abe, showed
defiance of the International Courts ruling as he was quoted in say to aim for resumption of
commercial whaling by conducting whaling research in order to obtain scientific date
indispensable for the management of whale, which is essentially saying Japan will continue to kill
whales until it is proven that it is okay to kill whales (Hays). The statements made by the Prime
Minister were viewed as disappointment. Greenpeace

A Comparison Of The Seven Year Itch, Trifles
In the past few weeks we have read several plays, The Seven Year Itch, Trifles, and Pomp and
Circumstance. Many aspects of them have stuck out to me, such as the setting and the personalities
of the characters in them. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in
different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in
social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated.
The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play
takes place is 1952. There is a big difference between this play and Trifles; women had more
freedom to do what they wanted and some of them even held jobs now, although rather low ... Show

Up until the 1940 s women were pretty much property to their fathers and husbands. They cleaned
and did most of all the housework, while men went out and worked. In the early years of the 1900s
women were not allowed to own property in their own name; the woman s property that she did
own became her husband s when married. Women who protested in the Progressive Movement
were reported as being neurotic, wanting to intimidate men, be hysterical and homosexual. In only
four states were women allowed to vote, most urban areas were less tolerable of this issue (
Progressive ). Trifles is an accurate example of the treatment women had in the American home.
Mrs. Wright was basically a prisoner in her own home. The women noticed things such as broken
jars, the unclean towel, and for some reason, a dead canary stuffed into the quilting basket, which
shown that she was unhappy with her new life. Mrs. Wright used to love to sing, but her husband
made her quit. While the men belittled the women s investigations around the Wright home, the
women pretty much solved the crime. They did keep Mrs. Wright out of trouble by not telling the
men about their new discoveries. That goes to show that women tend to pay more attention to the
finer details while it may go unnoticed by an uncaring eye

  • 3. The Theme Of Unity In Revolutionary Summer, By Joseph J.... Unity in Revolution Throughout the year of 1776, Americans developed ideas of independence from their mother country, Great Britain, which turned into a necessary cause that was fought for. Revolutionary Summer, by Joseph J. Ellis, goes into detail about the relationship between the Continental Congress and the Continental Army during that summer. His work elaborates on the mistakes of American leaders, as well as those made by Britain, and how they affected the war. Communication became important on both sides, and it was vital for the colonies to agree on how to reach the common goal of freedom. Ellis historical account of 1776 highlights the theme of unity and how it shaped the events of that summer. The abundance of unity between the Continental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it came time to battle at Kip s Bay, the soldiers ditched their knowledge and made it difficult for them to fight with ease. Washington had attempted to establish order by instructing officers to make a stand behind a stone wall, but the men just ran past him , which created further chaos (181). The battle ended up being one of the lowest points in the whole war since the Continental Army had failed to maintain their unity, which led to a disheartened group torn apart by agony. After uniting in declaring independence, the different states within the colony were eager with their ability to construct their own laws. They became too preoccupied with their own governments that they did not work as one body to strengthen the Continental Army. Throughout the summer, although there was The Cause , there was no such thing as We the people of the United States(114). There was then a lack of soldiers, which made it difficult for the Continental Army to fight against their enemy since they lost people quickly. The lack of unification between the states and their leaders lead to losses on the battlefield in New York. There were still many people, especially in New York and New Jersey, who remained loyal to the king despite the growing momentum for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In just more than twenty years Hezbollah has proved itself to be an effective terrorist organization. Hezbollah is much more than just a terrorist organization. In Lebanon it has become a major political party and social force to be reckoned with, as well as a major supporter of other terrorist groups. Hezbollah is a powerful organization and this power has led to its dominance in the world of terror. This did not, please Hezbollah, who wanted all foreigners off Lebanese soil. On April 18, 1983, Hezbollah finally struck. A Hezbollah operative drove an explosive laden van into the U.S. embassy in Beirut, Lebanon killing sixty three individuals (Byers). Encouraged by this success Hezbollah then struck again on October 23, 1986, using suicide bombers in vehicles to blow up both the U.S. Marine Barracks and the French Paratroop Barracks, killing 241 Americans and 58 French. By, February 26, 1984, just four months after the devastating attack on the Marine Barracks the United States pulled its forces out of Lebanon (Byers). • 7. The Emergence of Appalachian Stereotypes in 19th Century... In the world of Appalachia, stereotypes are abundant. There are stories told of mountaineers as lazy, bewildered, backward, and yet happy and complacent people. Mountain women are seen as diligent, strong, hard willed, and overall sturdy and weathered, bearing the burden of their male counterparts. These ideas of mountainlife did not come out of thin air; they are the direct product of sensational nineteenth century media including print journalism and illustrative art that has continuously mislead and wrongfully represented the people of Appalachia. These stories, written and told by outsiders, served very little purpose to Appalachian natives other than means of humiliation and degradation. They served mostly to convince readers of the... They were frequently invited to stay with families who were honored to have them as guests, and treated to every hospitality an Appalachian family could afford. When James Lane Allen, who was a teacher in Lexington KY for twelve years, decided to change careers in 1885, traveled to New York to become a writer, while there he was told to find a definite field and explore it for literacy materials. (McNeal, 59) Deciding to return to Kentucky, Allen began publishing his works in magazines in 1886, his work primarily focusing on Kentucky as two distinct regions, the civilized Bluegrass Region and the rough Cumberland Mountains. In James Lane Allen s Through Cumberland Gap on Horseback, the mention is made to the beauty of the land and that the climate was just the same but that traveling to the mountain region was not only difficult as they had to take a train then a wagon ride, followed by a trek on horseback, but a lengthy process. • 9. Comparing Kant s Argument Of Pareto Efficiency In assessing arrangements to solve the problem of free riding, economists claim to be guided by the principle of Pareto efficiency. That is, they claim to put forward arrangements that will make at least some people better off without any detriment to others, in terms of their own happiness. If they are serious about this efficiency criterion then any proposed arrangement must surely accord with the preferences of the people involved, as revealed through their actual behaviour. It follows that the ultimate test of any allegedly Pareto efficient arrangement must surely be to convince all of the parties affected that they are better off or at least, no worse off under the proposed arrangement. People received text messages and emails on their cell phones, go online to order food, cars are able to park themselves, and while driving, the lights are controlled by centralized computer system (Greenman, 1998). The truth of the matter is, that people have become so dependent on technology that they are not prepared for any type of service interuptions. With these sites being accessible on mobile devices, makes it that much easier to acquire. Devices such as cell phones and laptops can make people lose focus on what they are doing. For example, in the article Tweet less, kiss more , Bob Herbert talks about a certain female driver who almost caused an accident along the Washington New York Highway. She was talking on her cell phone while driving recklessly by changing lanes carelessly. That careless driving could have caused a serious accident in which could have led to severe bodily injury or, worse, death to her or other drivers. This act shows that over reliance on communication devices may cause people to lose concentration and focus when it is needed the most. Technology has had a huge effect on the way people communicate. A lot of people have gotten rid of their old wired phones in favor of only having a cell phone. • 13. Screwtape Letter Essay In the Screwtape Letter, by C.S. Lewis, Srewtape insists that all pleasures are created by the Enemy, meaning God, and that demons have not figured out how to create them. It s an idea commonly seen in Christian theology. God brought all things into this world to be good, and those things can and have been corrupted by demons and the lot. What Screwtape is saying is that, God wants people to experience pleasure, and that it is a demon s job to corrupt a person s sense of that pleasure. Screwtape brings up the idea multiple times throughout his letters. He mentions it mainly with talking about love and corrupting Wormwood s human s idea of love. His focus on it seems to show some kind of fascination. Possibly that of envy. Not in the sense... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surely if God created all pleasures, then all pleasures are good, and thus, sin cannot exist. However, each person possess free will, and with that free will, must choose a path that brings them to God. Therefore, without some temptations, free will would be rather pointless, as everyone would forcibly be in the grace of God. While that s a possibility, a much more likely reason is presented in the Screwtape Letters. Which is, once again, that demons corrupt that which God has already establish. Screwtape is constantly telling Wormwood how to use and abuse the free will which God has given humans, and even mentions at one point how easy it would be for God to just draw everyone to him, but how it would violate free will. So really, it is a combination of both free will and God punishing those who fall from his path and allow themselves to be controlled by demons. In conclusion, all pleasures were made by God. They were not intended to be sin, however, demons corrupted them into sin, to draw people into their domain. Humans, having free will, are freely influenced off the path to God into that sin, by demons. In Screwtape Letters, Screwtape frequently talks about using pleasures and exploiting free will for Wormwood to ensure he captures the soul of the human he s assigned ... I can never get enough of Roadhouse grill food or my position as a hostess dressed and khakis with a white polo shirt, and black slippery proof shoes. The country music play in the background while I greet incoming customers, welcome to roadhouse grill! How many are in your party? I always wear a smile because everyone I work with including my boss are polite and entertaining. It was a crazy coincidence when I discovered that my college lover, Dustin worked at the restaurant as well. Word spread fast to my boss then laughed over it. On the other hand, we have the poem of Birches and the speaker talks about how he does not like how the birches bend because of the storm so he imagines that children are the ones who climb the birchtree as high as they can and then when they have reached the point where the birch can support their weight any more, they bend the birch because the kick their legs and pull the tree down to one side. Before I built a Wall/I d ask to know/What I was walling in or walling out,/And to whom I was like to give offense. However, there is the implication that something even deeper is going on and Frost uses a harsh tone for it. When he inscribes a certain type of dialogue between the speaker and his neighbor, the neighbor s response is very harsh and discordant. My apple trees will never get across/And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him/He only says/Good fences make good neighbors . Their investigation aroused from various previous studies that showed positive evidence of the effectiveness of captioned video in improving learners skill. However, many of prior studies did not provide exact measurement on which part(s) learners paid attention to when they watched captioned and non captioned video. The absence of precise measurement limited the finding of the previous studies (Gass, Sydorenko, Winke 2013). Therefore, using eye tracking device, they wanted to observe how often foreign languagelearners read captions on captioned videos. They also intended to investigate whether specific foreign language and the familiarity of the video content play role in learners attention to the captions. Thirty three college level foreign language learners who are in their fourth semester were included in this study. They are English speaker learners of Arabic (n = 7), Chinese (n = 7), Russian (n = 8), and Spanish (n = 10) with no experience of studying abroad. Twenty two participants are female and the rest are male. The writers were aware that their participants might had different level of second language proficiency despite the similarity in the length of learning. The, however, did not mention how these participants are assigned to the study. Neither did the writer explain whether the participants of similar language were taking similar classes or not. Smoothies have become very popular with health conscious people and are available in a variety of flavors. What is a smoothie? A smoothie is a chilled blended beverage made from fruits and/or vegetables. It is sometimes sweetened and may contain chocolate. Many smoothies include crushed ice, honey or frozen fruits. They are consistent like milkshakes and are thicker than slush drinks. Usually smoothies do not contain ice cream but there are some that contain milk and yogurt. They have a lot of power and can even blend ice and frozen fruits. When choosing your smoothie blender you should consider how often you will be using it. Different blenders run for different periods of time, if you are planning to use the blender for longer periods of time then you need to get a heavy duty blender that will be able to handle the load. Usually the run time of a blender depends on the RPM (Rotations per Minute) of the motor. A good rule of thumb is that the lower the RPM the longer the run time though this is not always the case. Blenders run at a very high speed so it is important to get a blender that is sturdy. If you leave your blender unattended it should not walk across the counter because of the vibrations from its motor. Your blender should also come with a lid that fits snugly. The lid should not pop off and cause a mishap if you are not there supervising. You should get a blender that has a tight lid and a heave base, such a blender will be much safer to ... Though the brutality continues, Celie still manages to find an escape allowing her to come closer to the line of thriving. For Celie her first notion of Shug comes from her abusive husband s obsession with the singer. Her growing sense of imagination and curiosity began to develop a more nuanced character. The reader is given a new looking at the character; Celie crosses the threshold of survival to thriving only for a few fleeting seconds. Our first encounter of this diminishing joy unfortunately encapsulated a well rounded sense of author s purpose. And then I think about Shug Avery. I know what he doing to be done to Shug Avery and maybe she like it. I put my arm around him (Walker, 12). There are several key elements that the author has intentionally created. The first being the motif of sex, for Celie sex has been a brutal massacring for her body, which resulted in two heartbreaking children. While these children were taken from her and killed, Walker highlights the wedding night sex scene shifting from brutal to sad. The reader can clearly see that the idea of Shug is what allows Celie to escape from her horrid reality. The Three Major Characteristics Of The Rice Riots Rice riots Rice riots happened in 1918 when the Japanese government was involved in the Siberia intervention and the economy of Japan was in war prosperity that the export and industrial development was growing rapidly. To maintain the competitiveness of the Japanese exports and industrial product, the government set the purchasing price of the rice merchant from the peasants, which was much lower than the market price to lower the industrial production cost of the raw materials. As a result, the living standard of the general peasants and workers in the city had even worsened under the prosperity despite the huge growth in industry and the economy. This riot meant the strong dissent to the oppression from the government and the industrial Zaibatsu from the peasants to normal Japanese people. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic development style could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot had led to three major changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing price of the peasants were raised a little while the government tried to lower the market price by increasing imports from its colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries (Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly improved the living standard of the poor. The more important impact is in the government that Hara Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the government and the rise of the party politics. Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet members could be untitled, which indicated a great progress for the Japanese democracy development. The rice riot also caused the strong opposition to the left wing ideology in the Japanese government. After the riot, most of the leaders in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid such a riot happening again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and strikes (Morgan 2011, 125 134). For instance, even in 1925, a more democratic period, to avoid the spread the communism in Japan and other left wing ideology, the diet had passed Public Security Preservation Laws to delegalize the left wing parties. One of the main reasons Pulp Fiction has found so much success and praise in the art community is that Tarantino ushered in a new era of post modernism in the film industry. C4H4O4 was the only diprotic acid with comparable molar mass and pKa values with a 31% error for the molar mass and a 12% error for the second pKa value. However, the first pKA value comparison had a 157% error which could be due to experimental error (as shown in Table 1). Increments of NaOH added to reach the endpoint being too large could have also affected the molar mass difference between the unknown and the actual reference value. Since the increments were too large, the equivalence point in Figure 1 is slightly off since it was overshot. Therefore, the initial moles of acid and base were expected to be of lower value than those referenced. The dV uncertainty shown in the sample calculations page +/ 0.44 mL displayed this source of error between the calculations of moles of acid, the half equivalence point and the pKa; accounting partially for the percent error in the molar mass and pKa of the unknown acid versus Maleic (C4H4O4). Both Figures 3 and 4 were used to identify unknown acid *B4QK as 3,5 Dimethoxybenzoic (C9H10O4). I will define agile methodology as an alternative to traditional heavyweight , linear project management methodologies that is marked by an adherence to and reliance on the individual not as a replaceable part, constant interactions between the project team and the customer, adaptiveness, customer collaboration, and responsiveness to change throughout a product s development, which is perpetual. A major and initial influential force in agile methodology was Dr. Winston Royce. In 1970, he published an article entitled Managing the Development of Large Software Systems . In this paper, he argues software development is unlike the sequentially, siloed group phased execution auto manufacturing sector and proposed an iterative and incremental approach, while also acknowledging its risks, that today is commonly referred to as agile methodology. Throughout my reading on the topic, I noted that the push for the use of agile methods in software development has been referred to as a movement. And at the forefront of this movement is the Agile Alliance. In 2001, the Agile Alliance published the Manifesto for Agile Software Development. As displayed by Darius and his memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after culture, and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the original ancient mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing system by paring down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29 characters. Have you ever had a pain that hurt so bad you felt like you could not even move? The pain that I was feeling was from something in my abdomen called the appendix. No one could find out that it was wrong with me, but my mother was very persistent with the doctors that one finally found out that it was my appendix. In 2014 it was a hot friday summer night, I was at my friends house about to go to see some type of scary movie at Spartan 16. But, then I felt this shooting pain to the right side of my abdomen. At first I did not think anything of the pain. I let the pain drag on for a little while at the movies, but then it felt like someone was stabbing me on the right side of my abdomen and I could not take the pain anymore. I called my dad crying so hard that he could tell something was seriously wrong. He knows I am normally a person to have very high pain tolerance. My dad rushed from whatever he was doing to come pick up from spartan 16. He finally got to me and rushed me to the Pelham Hospital ER. We finally made it to the Pelham. The aperture impacts the depth of field directly, the larger the aperture and vice versa, the larger the depth of field. For the picture above, as the aperture gets smaller, the depth of field gets smaller, thus smaller amounts of the picture appears clearer. As for the picture below, as the aperture gets bigger, lesser amounts of lightis exposed to the camera, thus the picture gets darker. At the shutter speed of 1/1000, the water fountain appears frozen. To ensure that we use the correct shutter speed, we have to use the formula of Shutter Speed = 1/Focal Length. The slower the shutter speed, the more light it lets in. ISO stands for International Standards Organization, which standardizes the camera sensitivity ratings. Changing the ISO setting adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor to light. ISO can also be adjusted to obtain good exposure. As the ISO increases, the camera becomes more sensitive, thus the image taken at ISO 12900 appears grainier as compared to the image taken at ISO 100. To ensure a picture of good quality, we have to maintain the adequate amount of light entering the camera. For example to shoot a dolphin jumping out of the water, it is taken ISO 320 as the setting is not very bright, 1/1600 shutter speed to freeze the dolphin jumping out of the water and f/5.6. However, this aperture gives it a shallow depth of field. Since we want an appropriate amount of focus in the background and we cannot change the shutter speed or the image will turn blurry, we change the ISO. To make sure the amount of light entering the camera is same, and increase of and ISO stop should also have a decrease of an aperture stop. When a patient dies, the nurse often grieves alongside the family and helps to provide them with emotional support (Hecktman, 2012). Although the prognoses of childhood cancer have improved drastically over the last 30 years, many children still succumb to the disease. Nurses are the ones who provide constant bedside care, and often must confront the limits of what medicine can do for people (Schuster, 2013). This can prove to be difficult and bring on feelings of hopelessness and as though they are not helping their patients at all. Patients can leave lasting impacts on the nursing staff, and when multiple children die while in their care, the nurse may begin to experience cumulative loss. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of non accidental death for children in Canada, and therefore, pediatric oncology nurses are often exposed to death on a routine basis, with little time to grieve between the deaths. However, from the point of view of the shareholder a dividend is a return on capital while a repurchase is a return of capital to the vendor shareholder. Even in a company with a single class of shares, a proportionate offer may have a discriminatory effect if the intention is that particular shareholders will not accept the offer.8 For example, in a going private transaction a company s management or controllers could use a share repurchase as a way of increasing their own shareholding to a level where they are able to freeze out the remaining shareholders by compulsorily acquiring their shares.9 Similarly, in an empowerment transaction the idea may be to repurchase shares from shareholders other than black investors so that the resultant stake of the black investors is increased.10 Shareholder protection can be achieved in different ways. Educational Facilities For New Building Code Regulations Educational facilities designed and built between 1950 and 1970 have come to a point in their building s life cycle that it is time for them to retire. These schools are no longer viable to keep running because of the financial strain to upgrade to new building code regulations. This means a flux of educationconstruction is upon us. This also means that these schools, unless they are private, will be given a bond issue awarded by the state. Traditionally, schools are one of the tightest budgets to work with because they need to get the most for their money. One mindset that will save the owner money in the long term is thinking about life cycle cost and maintenance. One of the biggest issues with any new construction is the maintenance cost of running the building years after completion. Now this could mean many things from the HVAC to the paint on the walls. In schools, the interior finishes are not changed very often; therefore, need special attention. Today interior finishes are being selected more carefully in order to save money on maintenance cost, longevity, and durability. A big maintenance cost to schools is the flooring. Traditionally, schools have chosen vinyl composition tile, or VCT, for the majority of the flooring. When the schools were built sixty years ago this was the best option for longevity. Today that is not the case. In fact VCT flooring is no longer financially or ecologically efficient for the progressive future of educational facilities. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
