Organizations are looking to Microsoft 365 to transform and optimize how they work. When organizations are only reactive with governance and adoption efforts, they will continue to fall behind and spend all their time firefighting, supporting, and struggling to manage and get the most out of their Microsoft 365 investments. Proactive governance leads to greater stability, better resiliency, and much greater effectiveness. When paired with proactive adoption, you achieve far more with less. So why don’t organizations all embrace proactive governance and adoption? Why aren’t all organizations proactively tackling Microsoft Teams lifecycle management or how to best drive more significant teams' usage before and after meetings? Because it can be a daunting challenge, especially without help or a proven path forward.
Join Richard Harbridge, a Microsoft MVP and internationally recognized expert on Microsoft 365 and the Digital Workplace, as he shares the best ways to accelerate and shift Microsoft 365 governance from being reactive to being proactive. We will explore how proactive adoption aligns and compliments this proven approach and how it and the effectiveness driven by good governance help organizations maximize the value of their digital workplace and Microsoft 365 investments.

Intranets & Digital Hubs With Office 365: What You Need To KnowRichard Harbridge
There is a growing trend of organisations moving to “the cloud” to meet their intranet needs. While some organisations are running their Intranets “on premises,” others are considering entirely cloud-based solutions or running them on platforms like Office 365.

In this session Richard Harbridge will explore:
• The benefits Office 365 brings to an intranet...
• Where the issues and challenges lie...
• Practical guidance on when and how you can integrate Office 365 with your existing intranet today...

Intranets & Digital Hubs with Office 365: What You Need to KnowRichard Harbridge
There is a growing trend of organisations moving to “the cloud” to meet their intranet needs. While many organisations are running their Intranets “on premise”, many are considering entirely cloud-based solutions or running them on platforms like Office 365.
The question for many companies is not “should our intranet be built with Office 365?” but “how should we integrate or build our Intranets with Office 365”. This is even more true today with the emergence of new modern Intranet capabilities and continued innovation from Microsoft that must be reconciled with enterprise Intranet/Digital Workplace needs.
In this session Richard Harbridge will explore:
– The benefits Office 365 brings to an intranet…
– Where the issues and challenges will lie…
– Practical guidance on when and how you may integrate Office 365 with your existing intranet today…
Richard Harbridge will share proven approaches to getting started and succeeding in establishing and improving Microsoft 365 Governance. Richard’s focus will be explaining how shifting from a reactive approach to a proactive one in Microsoft 365 governance, and to a proactive approach to adoption that drives better results, can lead an organization into accomplishing more with less, and empowering it to maximize the value of their digital workplace.
Proactive Governance & Adoption In Microsoft 365 - M365OttawaRichard Harbridge
Proactive governance of Microsoft 365 is critical as organizations continue to depend more and more on the competitive advantage and productivity it can provide. Microsoft 365’s value and impact are dependent on whether it is leveraged (adopted) and how efficiently it is leveraged (governance). However Microsoft 365 can be daunting to tackle around governance and management. Where do you start? Is Microsoft Teams governance what should be prioritized first? What part of Teams governance? The Microsoft Teams lifecycle and the Microsoft Teams lifecycle management? What do the business stakeholders lead, and what does IT lead? How do we drive adoption pro-actively while improving coordination, management, and end-user experiences with effective governance?

Proven Strategies for increasing Adoption and EngagementChristian Buckley
While Office 365 continues to grow at a rapid rate, adoption can be slow and difficult without a strategy in place. This presentation covers a number of different topics that all have an impact on end user adoption and engagement. This presentation shares: a "go to market" strategy for a successful Office 365 deployment; productivity features that will enhance adoption; strategies for keeping end users engaged; how to track usage and activity so you can measure your success; and touches on many of the productivity features (Groups, Delve, Yammer, co-editing, etc). The primary focus, however, is on the management/ongoing educational aspects of a successful deployment.
An effective intranet design is one that is perceived as being of value by both employees and stakeholders. There is a significant amount of planning involved when designing an intranet experience no matter if it is a new build, redesign or new feature. It typically requires cross-department collaboration, management of a multidisciplinary team and implementation, marketing/communication and training plan.

Metaverse & The Employee Experience: What You Need To KnowRichard Harbridge
Back in the day we would use 'who installed a browser' that wasn't the default as an 'indirect signal' that denoted a level of individual interest in improving their digital productivity or experience. Nowadays we are swimming in indirect signals - from who organizes the most meetings (named if you use Audit log etc) to dynamics around networking (Viva Insights) to who uses Teams Apps (another great indirect signal of expanding productivity/investing in digital experiences).
What still works best though is direct signals like comments, nominations, champion programs (yearly and NON MANAGER & NON IT focused) and more that help identify people and map them/amplify their visibility as potential super collaborators, those with high amounts of digital debt and those who would better benefit from greater digital fitness or digital experience investments.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

12. GOVERNANCE PLANNING EXAMPLE…
Let’s zoom in on one particularly challenging pain point which directly addresses the risks
involved in unmanaged sprawl of SharePoint Sites, Microsoft Teams and Yammer Communities.
13. PROBLEM: CONTENT GROWS OVER TIME…
The modern digital workplace and Intranet has a continually increasing number
of digital spaces or ‘sites’ where content is stored and shared.
14. PROBLEM: CONTENT GROWS OVER TIME…
Most organizations don’t know who created a digital space (SP Site, Team, Yammer Community,
etc). What was its purpose? It’s department? It’s product, client, project, etc?
As an end user this makes
navigating these spaces
extremely challenging.
Think it’s better as an
administrator or digital
workplace/intranet leader?
It’s not.

17. SOLUTION: DON’T USE OOTB CREATION?
While OOTB can work great for many smaller orgs (less than 100 users), most need more structure to
support governance, lifecycle management, and better search/navigation experiences.

18. SOLUTION: REQUEST FORM(S)!
By centralizing and governing the creation of ‘spaces’ (groups, teams, sites etc.) we can improve
content organization and apply things like default metadata and pre-configured templates.
FREE: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/platform/samples/app-templates#request-a-team
Watch out for premium connector costs with Power Automate on the provisioning! (This is just meant as an example).
19. SOLUTION: METADATA DURING CREATION
Why is asking a few extra questions on provisioning so important? What value does this extra
metadata provide once we have it for reference?

Sample Metadata Questions:
• What is the purpose or business reason for
this workspace?
• What division does this relate to?
• What department does this relate to?
• What product does this relate to?
• What customer does this relate to?
• What project does this relate to?
• Will this workspace contain highly
confidential information?
• Who is the business sponsor for this
workspace?
• What should the visibility of this workspace
be? Should it be shown in the directory?
20. SOLUTION: REQUEST PROCESS!
It is important to have a process for new site and team creation and to automate the process so that
you can provide tailored, or templated experiences for users and better management/navigation.
Example of a High-level Site Provisioning process description
21. SOLUTION: DIRECTORY EXPERIENCES!
What is shown below is a really simple mockup of a filtered OOTB site directory experience.
You can create many pages with different views/visuals and relevant links to resources (Team, Site, Yammer, etc.)
Our communities can be filtered or explored by hierarchies (site explorer), by focus area (topic map), by the ones you recently visited or have favorited (your sites, your teams,
your communities) or by filtering the columns below (just click the column header).

22. SOLUTION: DIRECTORY EXPERIENCES!
Since the registry or master list of sites, teams, and communities will now exist it is well worth
presenting to users in effective navigation experiences. Easiest way to show value of metadata.
23. SOLUTION: MANAGE “JUST IN TIME”
By centralizing and governing the creation of ‘spaces’ (groups, teams, sites etc.) we can improve
how we manage the lifecycle of these spaces and perform targeted ‘drip’ campaigns.

and to get a good cross section of individuals (executives, reception area, field
and office workers)
Recommendations:
Ensure there is an accessible list of these active champions.
Ensure you have shared the details of how you select champions,
remaining champion gaps/needs, and how users can sign up to be one
in your Campion Coverage and Selection Criteria guidance.

1 Does Not Exist: The starting point of usage and guidance. There is no plan being
followed.
2 Partially Defined/Started: An approach may have been decided upon and is being
opportunistically applied. The approach has not been widely accepted nor adopted. It may
be informally defined.
3 Defined: The approach has been reviewed and accepted within the organization. There
has been buy-in to the documented approach and the approach is often followed. The
way this area is implemented is defined and/or standardized, but not in use across the
entire organization. Some governance is defined but may not be widely
understood/followed.
4 Defined & Managed: This area is centrally supported, standardized, and implemented
across the organization. It is defined and understood/followed. Metrics may be gathered
and reported.
5 Optimized & Managed: This area is functioning optimally and continuous improvement
occurs based on defined and monitored metrics or feedback. Assets are pro-actively
maintained to ensure relevancy and correctness. Leadership in this area is demonstrable.

40. GOVERNANCE IS NEVER DONE…
While you can establish effective foundational Governance, the reality is that Microsoft 365 is
an always changing service and your Governance must change along with it.
Viva Connections
•Viva Dashboard Governance
With only one dashboard per tenant how will you manage the dashboard cards and authoring process?
How will you manage audience targeting at scale (consistent for all audience targeting OOTB)?
How will you handle approvals of dashboard cards (is there a separate approval need)?
How will you handle custom dashboard cards approvals (ACE) and how does this map to dev Governance?
•Viva Connect Governance
Who will manage the connected SharePoint Home experience?
Who will manage “Global Navigation” links that show in the app bar and Teams Viva Connect app bar?
Viva Topics
•Topic Planning
Who will ensure key topics are excluded? (Anything beyond labels?)
How will you manage and govern the publishing process for topics?
How will you measure/monitor topics over time?
With thousands of topics being suggested how will you curate and distribute management effectively?
Which topics represented in Managed Metadata or in Digital Workplace pages should be prioritized first?
How will you align Microsoft Viva Topics with existing ‘topic’ like pages on key departments, focus areas,
etc?
How do you intend to manage ambiguous topics?
•Search Integration
How will you manage Microsoft Search connectors with other systems and how is that governed?

42. PLANNING FOR SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION
Governance isn’t JUST risk mitigation it’s also about efficiency (think of how roles, play
books, and structure help teams succeed) and driving better digital excellence (adoption).
43. PLANNING FOR SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION
We need to invest in key areas to enable and accelerate adoption. Governance isn’t JUST risk

46. PLANNING FOR ADOPTION…
We need to be more tactical and granular to drive meaningful commitment.
Plan and execute adoption campaigns! http://Office365Campaigns.com
47. PLANNING FOR ADOPTION
Developing a roadmap for adoption where we plan activities before launch, during launch and
after launch is important. Plan and execute campaigns!
48. PLANNING FOR TIPS
When each day’s Yammer/SharePoint News tip is posted by a member of the tip team it
ensures that these tips come from different users which gets more people involved.
49. PLANNING FOR TIPS
Tips drive users to take action, should be themed, should be pre-written before
the start of the campaign, and can be easily adapted from existing ones.
50. PLANNING FOR ADOPTION
Developing a roadmap for adoption where we plan activities before launch, during launch and
after launch is important. Plan and execute campaigns!
51. PLANNING FOR CONTESTS
Starter List Of Sample Contests can be found in the “Contests, Challenges & Ideas For Office
365” document in the Office 365 Resource Kit (http://Office365Resources.com)

54. PLANNING FOR COMMUNICATION
Define a comprehensive communication plan along with the messaging for key Email, Intranet
posts, Yammer posts or communication for the campaign.
55. PLANNING FOR ADOPTION
Having a campaign over a duration of days enables greater measurement, clearer
accountability, and simplifies the coordination and commitment needed.
Baseline Measure Impact Measure Continued Impact
56. PLANNING FOR MEASUREMENT
Example: We can see that most sharing is happening in SharePoint and not OneDrive. Great
insight is available now in the adoption pack.
58. PLANNING FOR ADOPTION
If executing effective adoption campaigns leads to effective commitment is there anything else
we should keep in mind?
59. CAMPAIGNS ENRICH COE CONTENT
The campaign generates new resources, training, tips, tricks, success stories,
and much more that adds continual value to your digital center of excellence.
