The net-zero energy house will showcase sustainable materials and energy efficient technologies that are suitable for the Gulf region's climate and culture. It will also demonstrate the long-term financial benefits of using such materials for building owners in reduced utility costs and maintenance.

Aluminium technologies week 12
Continuous casting of aluminum offers substantial savings over traditional casting and rolling processes. It allows the melt to be directly formed into thin strip that can be cold rolled to final gauge without hot rolling. However, it is only suitable for alloys that can solidify rapidly through the caster. Properties of continuously cast strip include very fine dendrites, reduced segregation, and a fine grain size due to the high solidification rate. The strip must then be cold rolled and heat treated. The Properzi caster is important for continuously casting aluminum wire bars which are then hot rolled into coilable stock. Common applications for rolled aluminum include transportation, packaging, and building/construction.

CSR- a corporation's initiatives to assess and take responsibility for the company's effects on environmental and social wellbeing. The term generally applies to efforts that go beyond what may be required by regulators or environmental protection groups.
B Corps- is a private certification issued to for-profit companies by B Lab, a global non-profit organization with offices in the United States, like getting an organic symbol
EP&L Statement- is a company's monetary valuation and analysis of its environmental impacts including its business operations and its supply chain from cradle-to-gate. An E P&L internalizes externalities and monetizes the cost of business to nature by accounting for the ecosystem services a business depends on to operate in addition to the cost of direct and indirect negative impacts on the environment. The primary purpose of an E P&L is to allow managers and stakeholders to see the magnitude of these impacts and where in the supply chain they occur.
Social Return on Investment- is a principles-based method for measuring extra-financial value (i.e., environmental and social value not currently reflected in conventional financial accounts) relative to resources invested. It can be used by any entity to evaluate impact on stakeholders, identify ways to improve performance, and enhance the performance of investments.

These slides use concepts from my (Jeff Funk) course entitled Technology Management Strategy to analyze the business model for Solar Windows from New Energy Technologies. New Energy Technologies provides a process for transforming existing windows into solar collectors merely by spraying several materials on the windows. With this low cost process, the windows can create electricity with costs and efficiencies that are much lower than those of solar collectors. The value proposition is low cost solar electricity and the main customers are buildings in areas with lots of sunlight such as Dubai. The firm should outsource manufacturing and installation to local firms and make money in licensing. Its patents can be used to protect from imitation.
