82% of 16 year olds owning a cell phone the risks of use behind the wheel are
increasing monumentally. According to research, even using a hands free device to
talk does not completely reduce the risk of getting into an accident. According to the
Highway Safety Association people using a cell phone while driving are 23 times
more likely to get in an accident. Studies show that humans are only able to multitask
to a certain point and while behind the wheel the risks are just too high (Copeland).
The majority legislators understand the hazards of phone use in a car, but
continuously refuse to ban and create laws to prevent it. The statistics back up the
hazards of distracted driving yet the government refuses to prevent the danger.

The Freedom Riders were a racially mixed group, organized by the Congress of

The Personas Embodied in the Suicidal Lady Lazarus In Sylvia Plath s dark poem,
Lady Lazarus, we find sarcastic and brutal language that is used to portray the
suicidal pain the speaker feels. The comparisons engaged in this 1962 poem are
gruesome and goes to the extent of relating the horrific events in the Holocaust to the
torture of depression. This poem would be considered as confessional poetryin which
Sylvia Plath is very known for. Plath derisively portrays herself as Lady Lazarus
and many other personas in relation to the Holocaust, to express her suffering.
However, this poem might be depicted as a foreshadowing of Plath s own suicide
after her failed attempts, which makes the poem even more tragic. Plath utilizes
metaphors, allusions, and similes to bring a sarcastic approach to her depressing
struggles. Sylvia Plath was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 27, 1932.
Both of her parents were professors, so she was driven to thrive in education. When
Plath was eight years old, her father died from complications of diabetes; that had

schooling, she started to endure severe depression that lead to her first suicide
attempt; swallowing sleeping pills. She survived and wrote about her experiences

Heart of Darkness is a novel by Joseph Conrad that centers on Marlow, a man who
goes to the Congo for a job opportunity. He meets a man named Kurtz, who is well
known by many. Once he gets to the Congo, he sees colonialism first hand. He sees
that the natives of the country were practically enslaved and forced to work under
very harsh conditions. The two major characters of the novel are Marlow and Kurtz.
There are many minor characters throughout the novel as well.
The novel shows readers how black men and women are referred to in such
animalistic terms. Not even describing them as humans, but savages. They are not
given any names, to the point to that they have no identity. When Marlow speaks
about England, he describes it to be a dreary. Dreary indeed as imperialism is
brought to light in this novel. Ultimately, Marlow becomes complicit in the genocide
and the madness in the Congo, choosing to conceal what he has discovered in Africa
