Analysis Of Advertisement Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Analysis of Advertisement" can be both intriguing and
challenging. On one hand, advertisements are pervasive in our daily lives, making them a rich
subject for exploration. On the other hand, unraveling the layers of meaning, persuasion
techniques, and visual elements within an advertisement requires a keen analytical eye.
The difficulty lies in dissecting the subtleties that advertisers employ to influence consumers.
Understanding the target audience, decoding the underlying messages, and examining the
strategic use of visuals and language demand a thoughtful and comprehensive approach.
Moreover, an effective analysis involves delving into the socio-cultural context, considering the
historical backdrop, and evaluating the impact of the advertisement on society.
The challenge deepens when one attempts to balance subjective interpretations with objective
observations. While personal perspectives and emotional responses are valid components,
grounding the analysis in evidence and theoretical frameworks adds a layer of complexity. This
demands a nuanced exploration of semiotics, rhetoric, psychology, and marketing strategies.
Additionally, the diversity of advertisements across different mediums – print, digital,
audiovisual – further complicates the task. Each medium carries its own set of conventions
and techniques, requiring the essayist to adapt their analytical tools accordingly.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on the analysis of advertisements can be immensely
rewarding. It allows for the development of critical thinking skills, media literacy, and an
understanding of the powerful forces at play in shaping consumer behavior. Ultimately,
navigating through the complexities of advertisement analysis enables the writer to uncover the
intricate dance between commerce, culture, and communication.
In conclusion, exploring the nuances of advertisement analysis in an essay requires a blend of
creativity, analytical prowess, and an understanding of diverse perspectives. It is a task that
demands attention to detail, a grasp of various academic disciplines, and the ability to navigate
the dynamic landscape of contemporary media. For those seeking assistance in unraveling the
intricacies of such essays or exploring similar topics, a valuable resource could be found at

The Significance of the Open-Source Act and Linux Essay
The Significance of the Open Source Act and Linux
In the 1980 s hardly anyone knew what a DOS attack was, most people hadn t ever
seen a computer. There was one great OS for companies back then, UNIX. Unix was
commercially made, very expensive, but was a very strong Operating System.
Because of the price of equipment, many people wouldn t get into computers, but
there was no reason to. Nothing of great significance was stored on computers.
By 1985, computers hit the mainstream, providing many universities with links to
each other and their libraries. This all came along with the invention of the Internet.
Suddenly there was a great amount of information available to those who had access.
There were many people who wanted to have ... Show more content on

Before long, every hacker and their brother knew how to find a big error in the Unix
code on any server. They exploited the servers with many different attacks, mostly
being troublesome for no reason. Phone lines and networks were taken down left
and right, and many devices came about to help deal with the phone system. Many
phreakers had developed boxes, named by color, that would do things to the phone
network, just by holding it up to the reciever to play recorded tones. There was the
red box: A box that could get you free long distance calls. There was a beige box: A
box that would make any calls you made untraceable by the FBI or Mamma Bell, a
nickname for the Owner of Packard Bell, a large phone company.
With the growth of the hackers, many new ways of protecting your systems had to
come about. Routers, firewalls, and many other types of security precautions came
about. They prevented many hackers from breaking in, but all it took is one to find a
way around, and everyone would know. But with the FBI and Mamma Bell handing
out arrest warrants left and right, many hackers gave up on their former lifestyles.
For the companies and the government, everything was taking a turn for the best,
until 1996. In 1996 Linus Horswald released Linux under the Open Source Act. He
originally made it for a calculator for his grandfather, but it advanced into much
more. By the time he was done with
The Notebook And The Last Song Essay
The famous Nicholas Sparks novels The Notebook and The Last Song are based on
non fictional events, while Rapunzel is a fictional short story fully based on
fairytale. Although these are two different genres, all three pieces share a common
story line and even the same themes. The story line, like any princess fairytale or
romantic novel involves two people who fall in lovebut go through many obstacles to
be together. However, in the end, they live happily ever after. The two themes that
these three pieces of literature have in common are determination and fate.
Throughout this paper you will see this story line and those themes unfold.
We hear determination in our everyday lives, no matter our age nor our location.
Although we may hear this constantly, determination is something very hard to
obtain. For these stories, the word determination is nothing but known and relived
constantly through the character s lives. In addition to determination, we hear the
word fate constantly. We ve heard this growing up through watching any and every
Disney movie out there, including Rapunzel . The definition, according to
Wikipedia, is as followed: be destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular
way. Everyone is born with a fate, we are all here on this earth for a different
purpose and fate. We just don t know our fate as we go through life, just like these
characters.
Rapunzel is a short story by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The plot of the story is the

Essay on Jamba Juice External Analysis
Case Analysis #1: Jamba Juice
Sociocultural Factors Sociocultural factors influence and restrict consumption ideas,
needs, desires and purchase behavior. People from different countries and different
regions have different life patterns and different sociocultures. These differences
directly influence the products that industries want to produce because people may
even have different attitudes and value toward the same product due to different
sociocultural factors. With the rapid development of modern society and the
continuous improvement of living standards, the degree of attention paid to health has
increased. Franchise businesses continue to pay close attention to their customers

Switching Costs
Since there are many stores, like McDonald s and Starbucks that are also providing
all kinds of healthy smoothies with a price that is similar to Jamba Juice s, buyers
actually will not face high switching costs. Therefore, low switching costs enhance
the bargaining power of buyers.
Product is Undifferentiated
Even though Jamba Juice advertizes that its products are healthy, low in calories and
rich in vitamins, many other stores also provide the similar smoothies or fast foods.
This indicates that Jamba Juice s products are not differentiated. Consumers can still
find products in other stores that are familiar to Jamba Juice s, which enhances the
power of buyers.
Power of suppliers
For restaurant retailers, the power of suppliers is high. This can be indicated by lack
of substitute produces and low importance of restaurants as buyers.
Availability of Substitutes
Although Jamba Juice demands a large amount of agricultural commodities to help
produce the healthy and organic smoothies, these commodities are limited. There are
not other substitutes can replace these agricultural commodities to make smoothies as
healthy as the organic raw materials. Hence, this gives the suppliers the opportunities
to raise the price or decrease the quality of the agricultural commodities.
Importance of Customer to Supplier
Besides Jamba Juice, many restaurant and foodservice stores need agricultural
commodities. If Jamba Juice
The Organization Of Microtubules ( Mts )
The organization of microtubules (MTs) in the mitotic spindle apparatus has been
shown to involve a combination of centrosomal based nucleation and hypothesized to
involve acentrosomal branching MT nucleation. Here, Petry et al. (2013) uses
Xenopus egg extracts to successfully observe branching MT nucleation from existing
microtubules utilizing total internal reflection microscopy (TIRF). Direct observation
of branching MT nucleation highlighted both the activating effect of RanQ69L and
its effector protein TPX2 on branching MT nucleation, and the polarity conservation
of daughter MTs. Testing for required molecular factors using immunodepletion, it
was shown that the Оі tubulin ring complex (Оі TuRC) is required for primary
nucleation while the protein complex augmin is required for branching. Furthermore,
components of the RanGTP signaling pathway are shown to induce observed
branching MT nucleation. The results by Petry et al clearly demonstrate branching
MT nucleation and is a significant achievement, being the first ever visualized in a
metazoan system. Further research should focus on deciphering the mechanistic
interactions between that RanGTP and TPX2, specifically its C terminus CT TPX2,
that stimulate MT nucleation. In addition, even though augmin has been shown to
play a key role in spindle morphogenesis through branched MT nucleation, its
relationship with other molecular factors should be further elucidated.

Walter Neff s The American Hard-Boiled Detective
The American hard boiled detective was an alternative character to the traditional
murder mystery film. This new type of character was ideal for the new noir films
that Hollywood directors were starting to produce. These films introduced audiences
to a new type of dark and cynical world, in which the character needed to add to the
chaos their good or ill intentions. The hard boiled detective has the same patterns of
the classical detective story. It too has the introduction of the detection, the
presentation of crime and investigation, which leads to a solution and or arrest of the
criminal. The hard boiled detective sets out to solve the crime and they figure out that
they must decide between the lawful answer or deal with the internal personal choice
that has arose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

money and a woman but he didn t get either. Neff already beaten down sets up the
eventful stages of his downfall and how Phyllis was a part of it. In watching films,
audiences are taught to question a character who is too enamored with someone.
Right away this sends red flags that something isn t quite right. When Phyllis is
first introduced there is an angelic light around her, and the low angel shot shows
how infatuated Neff is watching her walk down the stairs. Presenting Phyllis this
way, sets confusion for the audience. Is she a trapped housewife or a cold blooded
killer? Kathie Moffat much like Phyllis Dietrichson, entrances Jeff with her beauty
and seemingly innocent nature. When Jeff is assigned with the task of finding her
and the money she stole for the gangster, Whit Sterling, he seems alright with
reliving the past he has tried to conceal. His job is to bring Kathie home to Whit.
This all plays in a flashback as Jeff begins to tell pieces of his previous life to Ann,
and the audience gets to hear his ultimate

April Walker was a new student at St. Nicolau High School and so far it has not
been what she had expected it to be. When she first met her teacher Mrs. Johnson
she embarrassed herself to her and the whole class by slipping on the wet part of

with what the class is doing. When it was time for lunch she sat alone while others
were gossiping about her and how she goofed up on her first try. Mrs. Johnson sat
down next to April. I know that it s hard to fit in on the first few days or so but

answered. Henry felt cramps and bruises forming on his back. Henry felt straight to
the ground. Henry, Henry, Henry ! Help ! When April s dad was driving by he
noticed April crying for help and Henry straight on the floor. He parked and ran
straight at them. Guys, what happened? While April explained what happened April s
dad was driving to the hospital. I hope we re not too late for Henry ! April said while

Erich Maria Remarque s All Quiet On The Western Front
An ancient Chinese proverb states One cannot know peace without knowing war
(Herzberg). In a time where all that plagues many nations was war, it was inevitable
that a time of peace needed to follow or at least the sober idea of it. The proverb was
created to validate wars and later turned into a way to approach life s troubles. Being
within an individual or on a global scale, warand peace are connected. They exist
coherently but never together; they are the cause and effects of each other. One
follows the other yet both are needed in order to understand the other one. This
relationship between war and peace is developed in the Erich Maria Remarque s
novel, All Quiet on the Western Front. While the first major world war is the

After losing a generation of men and experiencing the hardships of war, many
peace related objectives were put into place to prevent another war so destructive
and disastrous. The road to peace started with the Paris Peace Conference in 1919.
United States President, Woodrow Wilson, presented a drafted series of peace
proposals called the Fourteen Points. The last point addressed the possibility of
having a group dedicated to peace and interactions among nations no matter the
size (Macmillan). This organization would stop wars like World War I from
happening so that it does not become part of the culture of the Western World yet
again. While the idea of the league was originally rejected, the Treaty of Versailles,
the most significant treaty to come out of WWI, established the League of
Nations. Eventually, the League of Nations disbanded in five years after the start
of World War II and the United Nations was formed. Newton Diehl Baker,
Woodrow Wilson s Secretary of War argues that the lack of such a league to keep
peace in 1914 is what threw the world into the chaos of World War (Macmillan).
Even Baker did not know the ramifications the war would have due to the lack of
peace structure until after the war
Dancing With Wolves By Kevin Costner
Dancing with wolves, was directed and starred by Kevin Costner. Originally, this
movie was basically an attempt to show both sides of the Native Americans and
the White settlers. It showed how the Native Americans perceives their insights on
how the white settlers coming into the Western frontier was within the concept of
Manifest destiny. The film is narrated from his point of view by Costner who plays
Lieutenant Dunbar. Dunbar takes a risk to do a suicide charge and while
surviving from it he is rewarded a spot on the frontier, which he really wanted to
go see it before it disappears forever. Traveling to find his post he comes upon an
abandoned post, where he resides. When at Fort Sedgewick, Dunbar also befriends
a wolf he names Two Socks for its white forepaws his first known friend being out
in the West. He noted everyday into a journal like a diary marking his experiences
or feelings and taking in all the beauty of the land. After a while he comes in
contact with the the Sioux Indians, which sooner or later gets to know on a more
personal level. Dunbar at first didn t know exactly how to feel but after a few
curious acts upon the native Americans he wasn t afraid of them he only wanted to
communicate with them and make peace. I believe this film does an amazing job of
showing how the American West landscape was and how the soul of the the Sioux
Indians were with vivid imagery, language and body language. More than half of the
film is dialogued because they were

DETERMINING THE EQUIVALENT MASS AND DISSOCIATION CONSTANT
OF AN UNKNOWN WEAK ACID BY TITRIMETRY
INTRODUCTION
Acids are substances that donate hydrogen ions and bases are substances that accept
hydrogen ions. Acids and bases react with each other by transferring hydrogen ions.
One way to distinguish an acid is by its equivalent mass, which is the number of
grams of the acid needed to transfer one mole of hydrogen ion to a base. For a
monoprotic acid, which only transfers one hydrogen ion, its equivalent mass equals
its molar mass. For a diprotic acid, which transfers two hydrogen ions, its equivalent
mass equals half its molar mass. The equivalent mass of a base is simply the number
of grams required to accept one mole of hydrogen ... Show more content on

The number of equivalents of acid titrated was equal to the equivalents of NaOH.
Finally, to find the equivalent mass of the acid, I divided the mass of the acid used
by the number of equivalents of acid. Using my numbers, 0.2152 g / 2.58 x 10 3
equiv. = 83.41 g/equiv.
DISCUSSION/CONCLUSIONS
Looking at the table in the lab book, the acid with the closest pKa to my calculated
pKa is trans crotonic. It has a pKa of 4.69 while my calculated pKa was 4.62. I feel
that these numbers are very close, as the percent error is only 1.49%. The percent
error for my calculated equivalent mass of the acid is also small at 3.11%. Error
could have come from reading the graph, as I had to estimate the equivalence point. I
should have taken measurements at smaller intervals when approaching the inflection
point. This would have allowed me to read the graph more accurately. Error could
have also come from the pH meter, which may not have been calibrated precisely.
Lastly, error could have resulted if I inaccurately read the buret while recording the
The Importance Of Cursive Writing
Taught more than thirty decades ago, cursive writing has a famed and legendary past.
It was once a vital element of American education, but is now becoming an archaic
artefact as technology advanced and the requirement of more regulated tests push it
out of the education system. Cursive writing should be scrapped out of the education
system for there is no need of wasting time and resources to continue teaching a skill
that won t be beneficial to the students in the near future. For many students in
America, cursivewritingis as foreign as the hieroglyphics of the ancient Egypt. In most
colleges and universities, more students are increasingly using tablet computers and
laptops to take notes rather than the old adage of using pen and paper. With the
changes in technology, handwritten letters are rare to come by. Most people have
changed with the dynamics of technology. Most communication is done using email,
Skype and Facebook, Snapchat, or Instagram as opposed to manual letter writing. Just
like calligraphy, cursive has been unnecessary(I don t agree with this). Writing is seen
as a means of communicating. Technically talking, we are past the times of physical
writing as an art. Whatever can be created with a pen, a computer can recreate it much
better. Welcome to the world of technology. If it can be printed, then it can be
communicated in the penned form. The argument that cursive writing aids in refining
the motor skills of students is completely untrue.
Advantages Of Throw Away Prototyping
Throw away Prototyping Methodology
Introduction:
Throw away prototyping is use to develop or create application as fast as possible.
It helps in creating a part of future application to ensure that a new develop feature is
technically feasible. It is different from sketching, as the sketching is more graphical
and concerned towards the user interfaces and experience and it does not requires or
consist of writing programming chunks or codes snippets.
The throw away prototyping is also called closed ended prototype. It is refers to the
creation of a model that will be discarded rather then making it a part of final
delivered software. It is discarded at the end after completing the project.
A small working model of the software is provided to the end users to conform their

Uses
As it gives us knowledge about the defects, issues and problems in early stage of
product development phase so it become more effective and does not give inaccurate
result at the end of the finalizing phase of the product. In this project, the completing
of each phase, step by step of throwaway prototyping methodology is easy and
transition from one phase to other phase is quick and fast.Due to this method, the
project is completed on time with less cost.
Throw away prototyping is useful to use when sketching is not enough, and it
requires to show the working of features or when need to show the actual
performance or response. TheThrow away prototyping has many advantages and it is
efficient to use, but somehow it become difficult and risky when dealing with
stakeholders and have little knowledge of technical background and in context of tuff
deadline and limited resources.
Effectiveness of
Barack Obama s Presidential Run
I recently stumbled upon a short video published by The New York Times in 2008
during the pinnacle of Barack Obama s presidential run. This video, entitles Being
Multiracial in America, featured a group of young, mixed race College students
elated that the United States would potentially elect a man that grew up in a blended
culture comparable to their own. There was this conspicuous desire shared among
these students to live in a society understanding of the intricacies of one s racial
identity. None of these students wished to identify themselves as only one of their
races. They wanted to eliminate this illusion of racial choice. To these young people,
one person shouldn t choose what sole racethey are because they exist within this
category of both . The complexity of their own genetic makeup was something they
felt would be eradicated by aligning themselves with only a percentage of
themselves. Seeing a man run for president who made it known to the country that
his mother was White and his father was Black overjoyed these individuals. There
was an astounding sense of hope that Barack Obama provided for this group. Their
prospect was that once the people of this nation understood that mixed raced
individuals can acknowledge themselves as such, we would be on our way to
eradicating this intense racial divide, leading to so much violence and anger, that
exists within our country. Eight years later, this country is now at the brink of saying
farewell to Obama.
Analysis Of Alan Crosland s The Jazz Singer Essay
Ethnic and racial relations in 1920s America can be broadly categorised into
movements of racial conflict counterpoised against notions of cultural hybridity.
Specifically, though Americans of all ethnicities ultimately contributed to the new
cultural landscape of America, and the very definition of American was broadened
and made more inclusive, separation and conflict between racial groupings was
widespread, and integration and homogenisation never fully materialised. Alan
Crosland s The JazzSinger (1927), notability as the first film to feature scenes with
synchronised sound aside, is demonstrative of this relationship between racial conflict
and cultural hybridity. The 1927 Al Jolson star vehicle s depictions of the struggle
between Jewish traditionalism and the allure of the stage, absence of African
American representation, and cinematic link forged between the Jewish and African
American experiences as racial outsiders, sketches an example of the contemporary
cultural exchange which was newly minted in America s Jazz Age.
At its core, The Jazz Singer is ostensibly a Jewish American story. The central conflict
is Jakie Rabinowitz s heritage, family, and upbringing coming to a head with his
chosen career and where his heart lies: performance in an American pop cultural
milieu. A reading of the film suggests that although hybridity can be found between
the old and the new; the traditional and the modern; they are fundamentally in
conflict with each other and cannot

Reasons For The Sexualization Of Culture
Suggest reasons why an intersectional approach to the Sexualization of Culture is
needed? Please draw on examples from the media in order to substantiate your
claims. 1. INTRODUCTION:
My analysis on the current literature shows that
scholars have examined sexualisation of culture from different perspectives but they
seem to agree in general that this societal phenomenon has grown very complex.
Therefore, scholars should consider the intersectional approach more often due to the
approach s abilities to recognise complex phenomena and to systematically analyse
them. The first part of this essay includes an literature review from several approaches
and their studies on the sexualisation of culture to show the complexity of the
phenomenon. The second part explains what contributions the intersectional
approach can offer the research on sexualisation of culture. The next part illustrates
how intersectionality has helped understanding the sexualization of culture through
an example of a violent, hard core porno film. Finally, the conclusion summarises
the main reasons for whether an intersectional approach is needed. 2.
LITERATURE REVIEW Sexualisation of culture has been so wide spread in our
everyday life, and scholars have looked at different parts of our lives where this
phenomenon exists. Many scholars made observations of commercialisation of sex in
the consumer culture, and there are a few different views on the phenomenon. In this
section, I will discuss different
Examples Of Figurative Language In The House Of
Scorpion
The famous philosopher Plato once said, You can discover more about a person
with an hour of play than in a year of conversation. But dialogue and figurative
language can help the reader understand people, and their surroundings. An hour of
play can t share their deepest secrets and their emotions to bring your fate s
together. In The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, the dialogue of her
characters and the descriptive language she uses helps show the mood and helps
inference more about the book. Nancy Farmer creates fascinating dialogue to
introduce the mood and the characters. In the book the author uses a lot of
dialogue to move the story along and introduce feelings to the reader. An example
when Matt, the main character, and Matt s friend, see a man lying on the ground
and say to each other, Can t we can t we help him? faltered Matt. It s too late for
that poor soul, grunted the bodyguard. What about the doctor? This quote indicates
how kind of a heart Matt has. It introduces guilt for the reader of the man lying
there and a little pleasure of knowing that the main character isn t soulless. It helps
add feelings and depth of the understanding of the reader when reading this
dialogue. Another example is when Celia, Matt s guardian is leaving for work,
says, What s this? the woman said. You re a big boy now, almost six. You know I
have to work. ... Take me with you, begged Matt, grabbing her shirt and wadding it
up with his hands. Stop that. When the reader is reading the quote they feel
sympathy for Matt and a bit upset with Celia for being so strict for not taking him
and being so harsh. Finally, when Matt is being hunted down, his friend MarГa is
helping him, they say, What am I supposed to do? Matt said. He felt drained of
willpower. Stay here. I ll go throw the hysterical fit everyone s expecting. When it
gets dark, I ll come back for you. This quote helps bring more pleased emotions to the
reader about MarГa and feel bad for Matt because he s in such a situation and MarГa
right now the only who can think straight. These quotes show the mood of the story
at different parts and help build affection to some characters. While dialogue helps the
reader build emotions for the

Watching a successful movie like this brings hope to a lot of people. Whether or

everyone is set with the same chances as anyone else. Everyone has one specific
talent in their life whether they know it or not. All men and women are created

Young Frankenstein In The 1930 s
The film Frankenstein in the 1930 s was criticized because of its many
imperfections such as the reused settings, acting, and overall plot. The original film
is under the genre of horror, however Mel Brooks (director) creates a parody that
pokes fun of the cinematic and dramatic techniques. Young Frankenstein is a comedic
parody that is enjoyable for an audience regardless of whether they have viewed the
original or not. Young Frankensteins setting commences in New York where a
neurosurgeon by the name of Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder), lives. He
receives the news that his infamous grandfather, whom he prefers to not affiliate
with, has left his castle for Frederick s inheritance. He then goes to the castle in

Young Frankenstein always believed his grandfather s work was inaccurate or not
accomplishable, is sooned proved wrong when he comes across his grandfather s
work. Following in his grandfather s footsteps, Frederick creates what he calls life,
but what others call a monster. Young Frankenstein of course is majorly different
from Frankenstein, however, has many similarities. For example, cinematically,
Young Frankenstein s dominating editing to transition between scenes was the fade
out fade in technique, which was the only editing technique used in the original.
This film as well as the original, did not have many special effects, except for the
excessive use of fog and lighting noises. Young Frankenstein uses more music,
mostly because of the monsters attraction to it, however, it gives the audience a
sense to what is to come. A recurring cinematic aspect was breaking the fourth fall.
Igor s character especially looked directly into the camera and spoke. Dramatically
speaking, the actors did an excellent job at conveying the humor meant for the film.
Examples Of Marxist Criticism In Repent, Harlequin
MARXIST CRITICISM Marxist criticism was developed by Karl Marx and
Friedrich Engels in the late 1840s, they did not come up with this as a means of
literary interpretation but they just came up with communist manifesto, an
idealized idea of society and what it should be like and what it should not be and
then people have applied that to literary theory. Basics are very concrete, they re
very scientific and very logical. They focus on the material and do not believe in
spiritual so they don t believe that we as humans or spiritual beings, they believe that
everything is material. When they investigate something it s always explainable, it s
always logical, it s always concrete. It s something you can see or feel or touch....

Essay on Pepe le Moko
Julien Duvivier s film PГ©pГ© le Moko is a remarkable story, and a powerful
personal account of French colonial life. The socio political subtext of the story is an
important one, which brings to the forefront the particular allure of
Casbah and the idiosyncrasies of its inhabitants. This subtext of the narrative connotes
the desire and fascination with the exotic. Jean Gabin s character is a thief, who while
running from the law becomes immersed in the maze of the city of Casbah. In light of
Edward Said s ideas of Orientalism, specifically in terms of the cultural exchanges
that take place in the affiliation of colonialism, the foreign element (as an other ) can
become a model with which Western civilization defines itself. The... Show more

The intersection of this similarity is in the fact that the girlfriends taken by most of
the members of his gang are native women, and correspondingly the way that the
native women are shown occasionally as prostitutes. The magnetism that is created
around PГ©pГ© and Gaby is related to this. His fascination with her is an
exhibition of his longing for the familiarity of Paris and the sanctity of his past, a
familiarity that is distant to him in Casbah. In her, PГ©pГ© is reminded of life
outside the walls of Casbah. His gradual rejection of Ines in favor of Gaby suggests
his shifting disposition and his consuming desire for Paris, possibly even a disgust
of the colonialist enterprise on a deeper level. Gaby s jewelry is a constant
reminder of these ideas. The diamond is one of the most readily identifiable symbols
of the colonial process, a reminder of the exploitation of resources by the British in
South Africa. Gaby is attracted to PГ©pГ© in a similar way. The radical distinction
that he embodies as a gangster differentiates him from the upper class, mainland
Frenchmen that she would typically be acquainted with.
The fragility of PГ©pГ© s relationship with Gaby is that it is on the verge of
intangibility. On the average day she could just as easily be his victim, as the cash
value of her jewels are the main focus of the gang.

Era Of Good Feelings Essay
The Era of Good Feelings was a traditional name given to the years of James
Monroe s presidency, following the end of the War of 1812. Events such as the
Louisiana Purchase, which nearly doubled the size of American land and proved the
Federalist party didn t have much as they opposed the purchase, and fighting against
the Barbary Pirates which gained the American navy respect made people in
America proud to be there and led up to the good feelings. The time was mostly
characterized by an increase of nationalistic spirits as the Republican party become
the single party in the United Statesafter Monroe won against Rufus King, his
Federalist opponent in the 1816 election. Nationalism would have a large influence
on many features of American culture and economics; however, there were also
many tensions growing during this time as well. There was much discourse over
issues such as the national bank, tariffs, and internal improvements. The Republican
party was the sole party at the time, it was also dividing, with many supporting what
was once Federalist policies. Sectional differences over slaveryand states rights would
also have a major impact on politics and economics, with greater importance than the
results of nationalistic influences.
Nationalism became a part of society through many different cultural areas. Gilbert
Stuart, Charles Willson Peale, and John Trumball painted revolutionary heroes.
Parson Mason Weems wrote a fictitious biography of George Washington.
Narrative Essay On Who Am I
Who am I? What are the driving forces behind the decisions I make for myself and
for my children? The answers to these questions have been shaped by my
upbringing and my own personal interactions and experiences with the people who
have come in and out of my life and the community I live in. My values, morals,
beliefs, and cultural views have developed over time and continue to keep me
grounded while working with children and families with different ethnic
backgrounds. Before I discuss where I am, let me share my journey on how I got here.
Growing up in a poor, abusive, single parent, Caucasian home in a middle class
neighborhood has defiantly had a significant impact on the person I am today. I
would definitely consider my family to be one of large power distance. What my
mother said went, children were seen and not heard, and you were expected to
follow all rules and ask no questions. According to (Thorton, 2001) Children
growing up in single parent households are reported to obtain fewer years of
education, are more likely to drop out of school, have lower earnings in young
adulthood, and are more likely to be poor in adulthood than children from two
parent homes. While this may hold true for some children, I would like to think it
was the complete opposite for me. I knew from a very young age that I wanted my
life to be different, and I was the only one who could make it happen. I was
surrounded by a generation of adults who believed the most important thing was
Simplicissimus Analysis
In Grimmelshausen s novel, Simplicissimus, the protagonist of the same name takes
on a much different position than seen in other picaresque novels. Simplicissimus
becomes a master, employing his own servants and gains a legitimate position in
society. In the novel Lazarillo de Tormes the protagonist is always serving someone
else s interests. Lazarillo never has complete autonomy and must rely on others for
employment and to further his social status. Simplicissimus does not fit this
picaresque element when he becomes the Huntsman, becomes a member of an
official court, and discovers his true noble birth. A person of high status in Soest

Compared to Simplicissimus, Lazarillo s highest ranking position is that of a city
employee, specifically the town crier. In this position, he is still reliant on businesses
and the city itself in order to provide for himself. Lazarillo also becomes reliant on
his friend the archbishop. By agreeing to marry the archbishop s maid Lazarillo hides
their affair and in return he receives a whole load of corn; I get my meat on
Christmas and Easter, and now and again a couple of votive loaves or a pair of old
stockings (Lazarillo 59). Lazarillo s reliance on others to provide for him is a key
feature of a picaresque novel, unlike Simplicissimus who is able to live quite well
on his own terms. Another way Simplicissimus differs from other picaros is that
due to his legitimate status he is able to employ servants for extended periods of
time. The most important are those he employs during his time as the Huntsman.
The first two servants he employs were as obedient as a pair of spaniels
(Grimmelshausen 203). The servants loyalty was due to the fact that Simplicissimus
always had plenty to eat and drink and plenty of booty for them (Grimmelshausen
203). Simplicissimus excess is a key difference from other picaros. He doesn t go
hungry, is able to spend money freely, and has such an excess he can routinely take
on help. This consistency continues as much later in
Circumstantial Evidence Analysis
Evidence is every considerable type of proof legally presented at a trial it also must
be approved by a judge. The reason why we use evidence is to help convince the
judge or jury of supposed facts that relate to the case. Witnesses who testify, an
expert who has information on certain fields of work, paperwork, records, photos
etc. are all types of evidencethat could be used in a case. Circumstantial evidence is
evidence that aims to come to a conclusion by stating the cause while logically trying
to prove the facts. The arguments and statements lawyers present to the judge and a
judge who wants to make a statement can be ruled with an objection therefore it is
not consider evidence. During a testimony a witness must swear under oath to say
nothing but the truth that way her testimony can be considered the truth since they
no way of know if it is the truth or not. If they are caught in a lie consequences will
be brought down on the witness and in some cases it can completely throw out the
case.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

not be immaterial, or must be able to pass all standards which means no objections

certain occasions a person may try to present certain evidence that has nothing to do
with the case or determining a fact. For example, gory details to prove support a
point or fact may possibly be irrelevant, so it may outweigh its value. Criminal cases
that the courts handle are usually much more strict on letting the jury hear such
inappropriate details because of the possibility in undue prejudice. The court only
wants the jury to hear the passive aggressive version of facts in cases especially those
that involved

They are fairly big, on average about twenty centimeters long and up to thirty five
centimeters in diameter. Tentacles help when they need to move around in the
water. These species of jellyfish are usually found in the South Georgia Islands
and Antarctica but are not found in areas like the Arctic Ocean. Even though they
tend to stay in these regions, where they move depends on the movement of their
prey and how conditions are in their current location. When they are forced to
move they use their tentacles and also their coronal groove which gives them the
flexibility to move around faster by the pulsations of the deltoid muscles in the bell

While evaluating the drug court programs several types of dependencies were
discovered. One dependency was created because of multiple measures of criminal
behavior during the same time of the follow ups. Each evaluation had to utilize a
particular research sample so that statistical independence could be maintained. An
odds ratio effect size was used because this type of format is most appropriate
effect size for the outcomes referring to recidivism. The coding of the effect size
was done in such a way that positive effect sizes indicated the treatment group had
more of a favorable outcome than the comparison group. The researchers coded an
effect size that quantified each court s effects on recidivism. There was also the
coding of drug court programs, research methodology, and samples (Mitchell et al.,
2012). The results of the study showed that participants in the drug court programs
have lower recidivism rate than nonparticipants. These rates show to be less
following their removal from the drug court programs. These findings express the
need for continuous funding, development, and operation of drug court programs as
they prove a reduction in recidivism. However, when it comes to drug courts in the
juvenile judicial system, the finding are considerably less than adult drug

4.1.2 Pricing Strategies : Nokia Company prefers to sell its products at a high
price. If it launches a high tech mobile phone to the market, the market entry price
can be 200 pounds or over it. However, the high prices for the beginning are

step wisely at pricing. It monitors the prices that are put on the market by its

The Life of Immigrant Children In New York Essay
The Life of Immigrant Children In New York
By the late nineteenth century the economic lines in America between the upper and
lower class were quickly widening because of the boom of urban industrial
expansion. Moreover, during the 1800s, America witnessed an influx of immigrants
coming from many parts of the world, they made tenement houses in New York s
lower East Side a common destination. One person witnessing the living conditions
of these tenements was journalist Jacob A. Riis. For several years, Riis, with camera

Riis s photograph titled: Twelve year old boy (who had sworn he was sixteen)

is sitting in a chair with a cushion. He is wearing a white cap and appears to
wearing a pajama top possibly signifying he had to go straight to work not even
allowing him time to get dressed. Next to the boy is a pile of garments to show the
amount of work to be done. In the background of the photograph, five men are
standing behind the boy all in a line. The photograph also reveals the unsanitary
working conditions in tenement sweatshops that Riss s text points out on
numerous pages because the floor has shreds of dirty rags lying about, and it is

appear to be saying take me away from this awful place. Additionally, the boy s face
appears black and soiled, which matches the cushion he sits upon, but oddly, his hat
is entirely clean. Perhaps, someone rubbed some dirt on the boy s face in order to
draw additional compassion from observers. On the other hand, one of the men in the

Homeland Security And Homeland Defense Essay
Homeland security and homeland defense. Both have similar titles and can be
regarded as the same thing. By definition however they are two separate sides of the
coin that keep the United States regulated and protected against the threats from both
the inside and outside. Homeland security is defined simply as a combination of law
enforcement, disaster, immigration, and terrorismissues and is the prime responsibly
of civilian agencies at all levels. Homeland defense is defined as, the protection of
the United StatesSovereignty, territory, domestic population, and critical defense
infrastructure against external threats and aggression, or other threats as directed by
the President. (U.S. Library of Congress. Congressional Research Service, 2) The
definition on one side of the coin protects the United States from one aspect with
different agencies involved and the other vice a versa.
Both homeland security and homeland defense have evolved in the recent years due

the World Trade Center Buildings. On the 19th of April 1995, a man called Timothy

Sherlock Holmes Emotionally Intelligent
Sherlock Holmes has been featured in several stories by his creator Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle. Traditionally, he has been highly regarded for his intellect.
Nonetheless, a multifold of readers question if Holmes has emotions. Holmes
thoughts are a mystery. Readers only know the thoughts of his friend Dr. John
Watson, who narrates the stories Holmes is in. I have reason to believe that Holmes
has displayed through his actions, including through what he says, that he indeed has
emotions. At the same time, Holmes does not allow his emotions to hinder or get in
the way of his work.
Introduction to the Character Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is still a popular character, even though Doyle created Holmes over
a century ago. According to the website ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holmes daily goal is to be mentally stimulated. He says it himself in The Sign of Four
that I cannot live without brainwork (104). This striving to always be mentally
stimulated causes Holmes to put his all into solving mysteries. However, Holmes also
finds stimulation through his drug habits. This is further explained in the article
Addiction, Empire, and Narrative in Arthur Conan Doyle s The Sign of the Four
written by Christopher Keep and Don Randall. These authors bring up that Homes
drug obsession is a hazard to Holmes health. Dr. Watson confirms this, and Watson
brings up a good point that Holmes risks losing great powers he s been blessed to
having (referring to his intellect). Keep and Randall say that the drug is both
remedy and poison, just as Watson admits the drug can make Holmes feel good,
but it has negative health effects (Keep and Randall 211, Doyle 99, 100). The
cocaine that Holmes uses, according to Randall and Keep, was originally created as
an anesthesia to soothe the pain of surgery. It is ironic, therefore, that something
created to help people has been abused by Holmes, and is still abused to this
##k Of Alienation In Stephen s Short Story Interlopers
In the short story Stephen the boy s lack of close companions results in his current
state of alienation; this ultimately results in suffering. Stephen is a foster child,
abused by his foster mother and his art teacher. In school, Stephen has no friends,
and the adults in his life make his situation worse. While in school, He talks to
himself. He moves his mouth as if he were talking (40). Stephen gets very lonely in
school causing him to act out, and therefore gets punished by his art teacher.
Furthering his misery, Stephen has no one to explain his abuse to. His classmate in
school describes him coming in one day; He lied to me first when I asked him how
his eye got so battered (40). Without friends in his life, Stephen does not feel
comfortable expressing his problems to anyone; the lack of companionship has
isolated him so that he lacks the skills needed to interact and express himself to
others. Ultimately this is the reason for the continuation of his suffering. The pain he
has to endure would not continue if Stephen had someone close in his life he could
trust and elucidate his abuse to.
In the short story Interlopers two enemies fighting for their survival realize their
grudge, and the lasting feud is insignificant compared to their continuing survival.
The two rival men, Ulrich and Georg, are hunting in the woods and stumble upon
each other, but before one can shoot the other a tree collapses on them. Both men are
stuck for days despite countless
Essay on Apache Indians
Apache Prisoners of War
The Chiricahuas, who were once one of the most feared Native American tribes of
the southwest, became prisoners of war by the United States for a period of twenty
seven years. This period of time was the longest captivity a Native American tribe had
ever been imprisoned. The Chiricahuas imprisonment began in 1886, when the
United States Army transported four hundred Native Americans from San Carlos and
Fort Apache reservations to army posts in Florida (Davis). By 1887, the bulk of the
Chiricahuas had been transported to the Mount Vernon barracks in Alabama, and the
rest of the dislocated band of Chiricahuas, including the now famous Geronimo were
reunited by 1888 (Davis). During the period of 1887 1894 the ... Show more content

General Crook relied heavily on Chiricahuas turned into scouts since no white man
could ever track the elusive Geronimo in his own land. Chiricahua scouts then spread
rumors of a possible arrest of Geronimo, which then convinced the proud but,
weary leader to turn him into authorities. General Crook had since resigned and his
replacement, General Nelson Miles, finally captured the great Geronimo (Davis).
General Miles had promised the great leader that all the Chiricahua families would
be imprisoned together to further reduce the risk for more conflict. Miles then took
it a step further and suggested to the Secretary of War, William C. Endicott, to
imprison the Chiricahua scouts that had helped to capture Geronimo, for fear that
the former scouts could not be trusted. Geronimo was separated from his family
and sent to live at Fort Pickens. The seventeen other families that were hiding with
him at the time of his surrender were sent to live at Fort Marion, where disease and
lack of nutrition were a huge fallacy for life in that area (Davis). By April 1887, a
formal report of these conditions were published that convinced President Cleveland
and the war department to move the Chiricahuas to the Mount Vernon Barracks.
The first Chiricahuas to arrive from Fort Marion, to Mount Vernon, set up camp in
the forest right outside the barrack s twelve foot brick walls. The prisoners were not
actually imprisoned in a cell but were allowed to move freely
Blood Donation
Valeria Lafaire
Persuasive Speech
Attention getter:
Imagine finding out your precious baby was born with a heart defect and must
have daily transfusion of blood everyday. Or imagine any situation where a loved
one is hospitalized and needs blood supply. If anything ever happened to a loved
one, in a heartbeat every single one of you would do anything to save there live.
Background info: Every two seconds, someone needs blood and about 1 in 7 people
entering hospitals need blood. That means a lot of blood is needed. The demand for
blood is high, but the supply is not. In shocking statistics according to mayoclinic.org
only FIVE percent of eligible donors across the NATION donate blood. That may

Charlie Kaufman s Adaptation In The Orchid Thief

John Laroche (Adaptation page 48)
When one looks back on their past to understand their purpose they become forced to
think about the choices, actions and events that led to their current standing. No one
successful does this and thinks that they have been stuck in the same mundane life as
when they made this or that decision. The constant process of change or adaptation, as
Laroche says above, forces life to progress. This is seen incessantly as a symbol in
Charlie Kaufman s screenplay Adaptation as he masterfully mutates the literature of
The Orchid Thief. In analyzing Kaufman s intricate approach to this challenge the
viewer is shown how life and writing are constantly evolving as conflict brings about
challenges of adversity. In writing there is a continual flow that the ... Show more

This would include how he and his twin brother Donald adapt their lives, and the
escalation of the relationship between Laroche and Susan Orlean. Donald, a
construct of Kaufman s to show a more extroverted side to his own introverted
character, allows for Kaufman to pursue a sort of split personality within the story.
Kaufman despises his brother until he realizes, like many writers, that he has
plateaued in the writing of his story and goes to a seminar on screenwriting that
Donald praises. Realizing that he needs the help of his brother, their relationship
switches to a symbiotic relationship where they work together which leads to the
eventual death of Donald by Laroche and Orlean. Following, the death of his brother
Kaufman is forced to adapt to deal with the pain that comes and he becomes more
balanced and less introverted. Thus saying it is noticeable how with the death of one

Project On Marine Pollution
For this project my partner and I will be taking marine debris from the beaches of
the Kenai Peninsula area and making it into something more useful. More
specifically, we will be taking seaglass and making it into jewelry and other
decorations. The goal of this project is to reduce the amount of marine debris found
in the ocean and on the beaches. Reducing marine debris is vital to the economy
and ecosystems because it can reduce the number of animal deaths related to marine
debris, and it can reduce the amount of marine debris found in the ocean. If marine
debris is reduced then the ecosystems won t be as polluted. Eighty percent of marine
debris is made up of plasticmaterials. Marine debris comes from four main sources;
land based/personally used items, marine industries, container ship spills, and
natural disasters. Marine animals and birds can mistake marine debris for food, and
if they do swallow/digest the trash then it could lead to internal hemorrhaging,
starvation, and choking to death. They can also become entangled in fishing line,
plastic loops, nets, and ropes. If this happens then it could cause infection in the
animals, drowning, and starvation. So, if the population of a certain species start to
decrease, then we would know what was causing it. Our communities are disposing
more and more waste every year. In 2008, our global plastic consumption worldwide
has been estimated at 260 million tons, and, according to a 2012 report by Global
Industry Analysts,

Analysis Of Advertisement Essay

  • 1. Analysis Of Advertisement Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Analysis of Advertisement" can be both intriguing and challenging. On one hand, advertisements are pervasive in our daily lives, making them a rich subject for exploration. On the other hand, unraveling the layers of meaning, persuasion techniques, and visual elements within an advertisement requires a keen analytical eye. The difficulty lies in dissecting the subtleties that advertisers employ to influence consumers. Understanding the target audience, decoding the underlying messages, and examining the strategic use of visuals and language demand a thoughtful and comprehensive approach. Moreover, an effective analysis involves delving into the socio-cultural context, considering the historical backdrop, and evaluating the impact of the advertisement on society. The challenge deepens when one attempts to balance subjective interpretations with objective observations. While personal perspectives and emotional responses are valid components, grounding the analysis in evidence and theoretical frameworks adds a layer of complexity. This demands a nuanced exploration of semiotics, rhetoric, psychology, and marketing strategies. Additionally, the diversity of advertisements across different mediums – print, digital, audiovisual – further complicates the task. Each medium carries its own set of conventions and techniques, requiring the essayist to adapt their analytical tools accordingly. Despite these challenges, writing an essay on the analysis of advertisements can be immensely rewarding. It allows for the development of critical thinking skills, media literacy, and an understanding of the powerful forces at play in shaping consumer behavior. Ultimately, navigating through the complexities of advertisement analysis enables the writer to uncover the intricate dance between commerce, culture, and communication. In conclusion, exploring the nuances of advertisement analysis in an essay requires a blend of creativity, analytical prowess, and an understanding of diverse perspectives. It is a task that demands attention to detail, a grasp of various academic disciplines, and the ability to navigate the dynamic landscape of contemporary media. For those seeking assistance in unraveling the intricacies of such essays or exploring similar topics, a valuable resource could be found at HelpWriting.net, where a variety of essays and academic support may be available. The Significance of the Open-Source Act and Linux Essay The Significance of the Open Source Act and Linux In the 1980 s hardly anyone knew what a DOS attack was, most people hadn t ever seen a computer. There was one great OS for companies back then, UNIX. Unix was commercially made, very expensive, but was a very strong Operating System. Because of the price of equipment, many people wouldn t get into computers, but there was no reason to. Nothing of great significance was stored on computers. By 1985, computers hit the mainstream, providing many universities with links to each other and their libraries. This all came along with the invention of the Internet. Before long, every hacker and their brother knew how to find a big error in the Unix code on any server. They exploited the servers with many different attacks, mostly being troublesome for no reason. Phone lines and networks were taken down left and right, and many devices came about to help deal with the phone system. Many phreakers had developed boxes, named by color, that would do things to the phone network, just by holding it up to the reciever to play recorded tones. There was the red box: A box that could get you free long distance calls. There was a beige box: A box that would make any calls you made untraceable by the FBI or Mamma Bell, a nickname for the Owner of Packard Bell, a large phone company. With the growth of the hackers, many new ways of protecting your systems had to come about. Routers, firewalls, and many other types of security precautions came about. They prevented many hackers from breaking in, but all it took is one to find a way around, and everyone would know. But with the FBI and Mamma Bell handing out arrest warrants left and right, many hackers gave up on their former lifestyles. For the companies and the government, everything was taking a turn for the best, until 1996. In 1996 Linus Horswald released Linux under the Open Source Act. He originally made it for a calculator for his grandfather, but it advanced into much more. By the time he was done with
  • 3. The Notebook And The Last Song Essay The famous Nicholas Sparks novels The Notebook and The Last Song are based on non fictional events, while Rapunzel is a fictional short story fully based on fairytale. Although these are two different genres, all three pieces share a common story line and even the same themes. The story line, like any princess fairytale or romantic novel involves two people who fall in lovebut go through many obstacles to be together. However, in the end, they live happily ever after. The two themes that these three pieces of literature have in common are determination and fate. Throughout this paper you will see this story line and those themes unfold. We hear determination in our everyday lives, no matter our age nor our location. Although we may hear this constantly, determination is something very hard to obtain. For these stories, the word determination is nothing but known and relived constantly through the character s lives. In addition to determination, we hear the word fate constantly. We ve heard this growing up through watching any and every Disney movie out there, including Rapunzel . The definition, according to Wikipedia, is as followed: be destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular way. Everyone is born with a fate, we are all here on this earth for a different purpose and fate. We just don t know our fate as we go through life, just like these characters. Rapunzel is a short story by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The plot of the story is the same as the Disney

People from different countries and different regions have different life patterns and different sociocultures. These differences directly influence the products that industries want to produce because people may even have different attitudes and value toward the same product due to different sociocultural factors. Switching Costs Since there are many stores, like McDonald s and Starbucks that are also providing all kinds of healthy smoothies with a price that is similar to Jamba Juice s, buyers actually will not face high switching costs. Therefore, low switching costs enhance the bargaining power of buyers. Product is Undifferentiated Even though Jamba Juice advertizes that its products are healthy, low in calories and rich in vitamins, many other stores also provide the similar smoothies or fast foods. This indicates that Jamba Juice s products are not differentiated. Consumers can still find products in other stores that are familiar to Jamba Juice s, which enhances the power of buyers. Power of suppliers For restaurant retailers, the power of suppliers is high. This can be indicated by lack of substitute produces and low importance of restaurants as buyers. Availability of Substitutes Although Jamba Juice demands a large amount of agricultural commodities to help produce the healthy and organic smoothies, these commodities are limited. There are not other substitutes can replace these agricultural commodities to make smoothies as healthy as the organic raw materials. Hence, this gives the suppliers the opportunities to raise the price or decrease the quality of the agricultural commodities. Importance of Customer to Supplier Besides Jamba Juice, many restaurant and foodservice stores need agricultural commodities. If Jamba Juice
  • 5. The Organization Of Microtubules ( Mts ) The organization of microtubules (MTs) in the mitotic spindle apparatus has been shown to involve a combination of centrosomal based nucleation and hypothesized to involve acentrosomal branching MT nucleation. Here, Petry et al. (2013) uses Xenopus egg extracts to successfully observe branching MT nucleation from existing microtubules utilizing total internal reflection microscopy (TIRF). Direct observation of branching MT nucleation highlighted both the activating effect of RanQ69L and its effector protein TPX2 on branching MT nucleation, and the polarity conservation of daughter MTs. Testing for required molecular factors using immunodepletion, it was shown that the Оі tubulin ring complex (Оі TuRC) is required for primary nucleation while the protein complex augmin is required for branching. Furthermore, components of the RanGTP signaling pathway are shown to induce observed branching MT nucleation. The results by Petry et al clearly demonstrate branching MT nucleation and is a significant achievement, being the first ever visualized in a metazoan system. Further research should focus on deciphering the mechanistic interactions between that RanGTP and TPX2, specifically its C terminus CT TPX2, that stimulate MT nucleation. In addition, even though augmin has been shown to play a key role in spindle morphogenesis through branched MT nucleation, its relationship with other molecular factors should be further elucidated. • 6. Walter Neff s The American Hard-Boiled Detective The American hard boiled detective was an alternative character to the traditional murder mystery film. This new type of character was ideal for the new noir films that Hollywood directors were starting to produce. These films introduced audiences to a new type of dark and cynical world, in which the character needed to add to the chaos their good or ill intentions. The hard boiled detective has the same patterns of the classical detective story. It too has the introduction of the detection, the presentation of crime and investigation, which leads to a solution and or arrest of the criminal. • 8. Erich Maria Remarque s All Quiet On The Western Front An ancient Chinese proverb states One cannot know peace without knowing war (Herzberg). In a time where all that plagues many nations was war, it was inevitable that a time of peace needed to follow or at least the sober idea of it. The proverb was created to validate wars and later turned into a way to approach life s troubles. Being within an individual or on a global scale, warand peace are connected. They exist coherently but never together; they are the cause and effects of each other. One follows the other yet both are needed in order to understand the other one. This relationship between war and peace is developed in the Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front. While the first major world war is the background... After losing a generation of men and experiencing the hardships of war, many peace related objectives were put into place to prevent another war so destructive and disastrous. The road to peace started with the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. United States President, Woodrow Wilson, presented a drafted series of peace proposals called the Fourteen Points. The last point addressed the possibility of having a group dedicated to peace and interactions among nations no matter the size (Macmillan). This organization would stop wars like World War I from happening so that it does not become part of the culture of the Western World yet again. While the idea of the league was originally rejected, the Treaty of Versailles, the most significant treaty to come out of WWI, established the League of Nations. Eventually, the League of Nations disbanded in five years after the start of World War II and the United Nations was formed. Newton Diehl Baker, Woodrow Wilson s Secretary of War argues that the lack of such a league to keep peace in 1914 is what threw the world into the chaos of World War (Macmillan). Even Baker did not know the ramifications the war would have due to the lack of peace structure until after the war
  • 9. Dancing With Wolves By Kevin Costner Dancing with wolves, was directed and starred by Kevin Costner. Originally, this movie was basically an attempt to show both sides of the Native Americans and the White settlers. It showed how the Native Americans perceives their insights on how the white settlers coming into the Western frontier was within the concept of Manifest destiny. The film is narrated from his point of view by Costner who plays Lieutenant Dunbar. Dunbar takes a risk to do a suicide charge and while surviving from it he is rewarded a spot on the frontier, which he really wanted to go see it before it disappears forever. Traveling to find his post he comes upon an abandoned post, where he resides. When at Fort Sedgewick, Dunbar also befriends a wolf he names Two Socks for its white forepaws his first known friend being out in the West. He noted everyday into a journal like a diary marking his experiences or feelings and taking in all the beauty of the land. After a while he comes in contact with the the Sioux Indians, which sooner or later gets to know on a more personal level. Dunbar at first didn t know exactly how to feel but after a few curious acts upon the native Americans he wasn t afraid of them he only wanted to communicate with them and make peace. I believe this film does an amazing job of showing how the American West landscape was and how the soul of the the Sioux Indians were with vivid imagery, language and body language. DETERMINING THE EQUIVALENT MASS AND DISSOCIATION CONSTANT OF AN UNKNOWN WEAK ACID BY TITRIMETRY INTRODUCTION Acids are substances that donate hydrogen ions and bases are substances that accept hydrogen ions. Acids and bases react with each other by transferring hydrogen ions. One way to distinguish an acid is by its equivalent mass, which is the number of grams of the acid needed to transfer one mole of hydrogen ion to a base. For a monoprotic acid, which only transfers one hydrogen ion, its equivalent mass equals its molar mass. For a diprotic acid, which transfers two hydrogen ions, its equivalent mass equals half its molar mass. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSIONS Looking at the table in the lab book, the acid with the closest pKa to my calculated pKa is trans crotonic. It has a pKa of 4.69 while my calculated pKa was 4.62. I feel that these numbers are very close, as the percent error is only 1.49%. The percent error for my calculated equivalent mass of the acid is also small at 3.11%. Error could have come from reading the graph, as I had to estimate the equivalence point. I should have taken measurements at smaller intervals when approaching the inflection point. This would have allowed me to read the graph more accurately. Error could have also come from the pH meter, which may not have been calibrated precisely. Lastly, error could have resulted if I inaccurately read the buret while recording the
  • 17. The Importance Of Cursive Writing Taught more than thirty decades ago, cursive writing has a famed and legendary past. It was once a vital element of American education, but is now becoming an archaic artefact as technology advanced and the requirement of more regulated tests push it out of the education system. Cursive writing should be scrapped out of the education system for there is no need of wasting time and resources to continue teaching a skill that won t be beneficial to the students in the near future. For many students in America, cursivewritingis as foreign as the hieroglyphics of the ancient Egypt. In most colleges and universities, more students are increasingly using tablet computers and laptops to take notes rather than the old adage of using pen and paper. With the changes in technology, handwritten letters are rare to come by. Most people have changed with the dynamics of technology. Most communication is done using email, Skype and Facebook, Snapchat, or Instagram as opposed to manual letter writing. Just like calligraphy, cursive has been unnecessary(I don t agree with this). Writing is seen as a means of communicating. Technically talking, we are past the times of physical writing as an art. Whatever can be created with a pen, a computer can recreate it much better. Welcome to the world of technology. If it can be printed, then it can be communicated in the penned form. The argument that cursive writing aids in refining the motor skills of students is completely untrue.

This video, entitles Being Multiracial in America, featured a group of young, mixed race College students elated that the United States would potentially elect a man that grew up in a blended culture comparable to their own. There was this conspicuous desire shared among these students to live in a society understanding of the intricacies of one s racial identity. None of these students wished to identify themselves as only one of their races. They wanted to eliminate this illusion of racial choice. To these young people, one person shouldn t choose what sole racethey are because they exist within this category of both . The complexity of their own genetic makeup was something they felt would be eradicated by aligning themselves with only a percentage of themselves. Seeing a man run for president who made it known to the country that his mother was White and his father was Black overjoyed these individuals. There was an astounding sense of hope that Barack Obama provided for this group. Their prospect was that once the people of this nation understood that mixed raced individuals can acknowledge themselves as such, we would be on our way to eradicating this intense racial divide, leading to so much violence and anger, that exists within our country. Eight years later, this country is now at the brink of saying farewell to Obama.
  • 20. Analysis Of Alan Crosland s The Jazz Singer Essay Ethnic and racial relations in 1920s America can be broadly categorised into movements of racial conflict counterpoised against notions of cultural hybridity. Specifically, though Americans of all ethnicities ultimately contributed to the new cultural landscape of America, and the very definition of American was broadened and made more inclusive, separation and conflict between racial groupings was widespread, and integration and homogenisation never fully materialised. Alan Crosland s The JazzSinger (1927), notability as the first film to feature scenes with synchronised sound aside, is demonstrative of this relationship between racial conflict and cultural hybridity. The 1927 Al Jolson star vehicle s depictions of the struggle between Jewish traditionalism and the allure of the stage, absence of African American representation, and cinematic link forged between the Jewish and African American experiences as racial outsiders, sketches an example of the contemporary cultural exchange which was newly minted in America s Jazz Age. At its core, The Jazz Singer is ostensibly a Jewish American story. The central conflict is Jakie Rabinowitz s heritage, family, and upbringing coming to a head with his chosen career and where his heart lies: performance in an American pop cultural milieu. A reading of the film suggests that although hybridity can be found between the old and the new; the traditional and the modern; they are fundamentally in conflict with each other and cannot

My analysis on the current literature shows that scholars have examined sexualisation of culture from different perspectives but they seem to agree in general that this societal phenomenon has grown very complex. Therefore, scholars should consider the intersectional approach more often due to the approach s abilities to recognise complex phenomena and to systematically analyse them. The first part of this essay includes an literature review from several approaches and their studies on the sexualisation of culture to show the complexity of the phenomenon. The second part explains what contributions the intersectional approach can offer the research on sexualisation of culture. The next part illustrates how intersectionality has helped understanding the sexualization of culture through an example of a violent, hard core porno film. Finally, the conclusion summarises the main reasons for whether an intersectional approach is needed. 2. Many scholars made observations of commercialisation of sex in the consumer culture, and there are a few different views on the phenomenon. In this section, I will discuss different

Nancy Farmer creates fascinating dialogue to introduce the mood and the characters. In the book the author uses a lot of dialogue to move the story along and introduce feelings to the reader. • 29. Essay on Pepe le Moko Julien Duvivier s film PГ©pГ© le Moko is a remarkable story, and a powerful personal account of French colonial life. The socio political subtext of the story is an important one, which brings to the forefront the particular allure of Casbah and the idiosyncrasies of its inhabitants. This subtext of the narrative connotes the desire and fascination with the exotic. Jean Gabin s character is a thief, who while running from the law becomes immersed in the maze of the city of Casbah. In light of Edward Said s ideas of Orientalism, specifically in terms of the cultural exchanges that take place in the affiliation of colonialism, the foreign element (as an other ) can become a model with which Western civilization defines itself. The intersection of this similarity is in the fact that the girlfriends taken by most of the members of his gang are native women, and correspondingly the way that the native women are shown occasionally as prostitutes. The magnetism that is created around PГ©pГ© and Gaby is related to this. His fascination with her is an exhibition of his longing for the familiarity of Paris and the sanctity of his past, a familiarity that is distant to him in Casbah. In her, PГ©pГ© is reminded of life outside the walls of Casbah. His gradual rejection of Ines in favor of Gaby suggests his shifting disposition and his consuming desire for Paris, possibly even a disgust of the colonialist enterprise on a deeper level. Gaby s jewelry is a constant reminder of these ideas. The diamond is one of the most readily identifiable symbols of the colonial process, a reminder of the exploitation of resources by the British in South Africa. Gaby is attracted to PГ©pГ© in a similar way. The radical distinction that he embodies as a gangster differentiates him from the upper class, mainland Frenchmen that she would typically be acquainted with. The fragility of PГ©pГ© s relationship with Gaby is that it is on the verge of intangibility. On the average day she could just as easily be his victim, as the cash value of her jewels are the main focus of the gang.

  • 31. Era Of Good Feelings Essay The Era of Good Feelings was a traditional name given to the years of James Monroe s presidency, following the end of the War of 1812. Events such as the Louisiana Purchase, which nearly doubled the size of American land and proved the Federalist party didn t have much as they opposed the purchase, and fighting against the Barbary Pirates which gained the American navy respect made people in America proud to be there and led up to the good feelings. The time was mostly characterized by an increase of nationalistic spirits as the Republican party become the single party in the United Statesafter Monroe won against Rufus King, his Federalist opponent in the 1816 election. Nationalism would have a large influence on many features of American culture and economics; however, there were also many tensions growing during this time as well. There was much discourse over issues such as the national bank, tariffs, and internal improvements. The Republican party was the sole party at the time, it was also dividing, with many supporting what was once Federalist policies. Sectional differences over slaveryand states rights would also have a major impact on politics and economics, with greater importance than the results of nationalistic influences. Nationalism became a part of society through many different cultural areas. Gilbert Stuart, Charles Willson Peale, and John Trumball painted revolutionary heroes. Parson Mason Weems wrote a fictitious biography of George Washington.

The answers to these questions have been shaped by my upbringing and my own personal interactions and experiences with the people who have come in and out of my life and the community I live in. My values, morals, beliefs, and cultural views have developed over time and continue to keep me grounded while working with children and families with different ethnic backgrounds. Before I discuss where I am, let me share my journey on how I got here. Growing up in a poor, abusive, single parent, Caucasian home in a middle class neighborhood has defiantly had a significant impact on the person I am today. I would definitely consider my family to be one of large power distance. What my mother said went, children were seen and not heard, and you were expected to follow all rules and ask no questions. Lazarillo s reliance on others to provide for him is a key feature of a picaresque novel, unlike Simplicissimus who is able to live quite well on his own terms. Another way Simplicissimus differs from other picaros is that due to his legitimate status he is able to employ servants for extended periods of time. The most important are those he employs during his time as the Huntsman. The first two servants he employs were as obedient as a pair of spaniels (Grimmelshausen 203). The servants loyalty was due to the fact that Simplicissimus always had plenty to eat and drink and plenty of booty for them (Grimmelshausen 203). Simplicissimus excess is a key difference from other picaros. He doesn t go hungry, is able to spend money freely, and has such an excess he can routinely take on help. Each evaluation had to utilize a particular research sample so that statistical independence could be maintained. An odds ratio effect size was used because this type of format is most appropriate effect size for the outcomes referring to recidivism. The coding of the effect size was done in such a way that positive effect sizes indicated the treatment group had more of a favorable outcome than the comparison group. The researchers coded an effect size that quantified each court s effects on recidivism. There was also the coding of drug court programs, research methodology, and samples (Mitchell et al., 2012). The results of the study showed that participants in the drug court programs have lower recidivism rate than nonparticipants. These rates show to be less following their removal from the drug court programs. More specifically, we will be taking seaglass and making it into jewelry and other decorations. The goal of this project is to reduce the amount of marine debris found in the ocean and on the beaches. Reducing marine debris is vital to the economy and ecosystems because it can reduce the number of animal deaths related to marine debris, and it can reduce the amount of marine debris found in the ocean. If marine debris is reduced then the ecosystems won t be as polluted. Eighty percent of marine debris is made up of plasticmaterials. Marine debris comes from four main sources; land based/personally used items, marine industries, container ship spills, and natural disasters. Marine animals and birds can mistake marine debris for food, and if they do swallow/digest the trash then it could lead to internal hemorrhaging, starvation, and choking to death. They can also become entangled in fishing line, plastic loops, nets, and ropes. If this happens then it could cause infection in the animals, drowning, and starvation. So, if the population of a certain species start to decrease, then we would know what was causing it. Our communities are disposing more and more waste every year.
