Steam Applications in Textile
Steam is the technical term for the
gaseous phase of water, which is
formed when water boils.
The difference between steam and
water vapor is that-
Water vapor can be produced from
the evaporation or boiling of liquid
water or from the sublimation of ice
Steam is only formed from boiling
water.
Agricultural
• for soil sterilization & increase soil health
Domestic
• for cooking, cleaning of fabric and carpets, etc
Electricity generation
• electricity is generated by steam turbines
Mechanical effort
• steam engines & steam turbines perform mechanical work
Cleaning-Washing
• different industrial washing & cleaning process
Steam Engine
Steam Power Plant
A boiler is a closed vessel in which water or other fluid is
heated.
The heated water produces steam & that’s why boiler is
called steam generator.
Schematic working process of a Boiler
1. According to heating method:
Fire-tube Boiler Water-tube Boiler
2. According to the use method:
Stationary Boiler
Mobile Boiler
3. According to position of boiler
Horizontal Boiler
Vertical Boiler
4. According to igniting place
Internally fired Boiler
Externally fired Boiler
Mobile BoilerHorizontal Boiler
Internally fired Boiler
Externally fired Boiler
Vertical Boiler
Boiler Mountings are the components generally mounted
on the surface of the boiler to have safety during
operation. These are the essential parts of a boiler &
without these, boiler operation can not be done.
These are those devices which are installed with a boiler
and its neighboring area to increase the efficiency of the
boiler. These are not the essential part of the boiler but
use for increasing boiler efficiency only.
Some Boiler accessories are:
 Super heater
 Economizer
 Pre heater
 Feed pump
Super Heater
Economizer
Pre-Heater
