Statement Of Purpose In Electronics
Statement of Purpose
John Serin Varghese
Term: Fall 2015
Since my school days, I was always curious about how automated gadgets and devices work.
Various TV programs gave me some insight into the world of electronics. Vocational electronics
course in my higher secondary education acquainted me to the basics of electronics. After starting
my undergraduate course in electronics and tele–communication engineering, basic courses like
'Basic Electronics Engineering', 'Solid State Devices and Circuits' and 'Digital Logic Design' gave
me a deeper understanding of the building blocks of electronics like diodes, transistors and ICs. Not
only did these courses managed to partially sate this curiosity that I had since my childhood, but also
inspired me to explore the world of electronics further. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
'Accelerometer based ECU using CAN protocol', our third year mini project, was my first
experience in designing, testing and prototyping an embedded system application which included
the use of a microcontroller to transfer tilt angle information from accelerometer which is a MEMS
device. The success in my maiden attempt increased my interest in the field of microelectronics and
embedded system applications. Study of subjects like 'Microcontrollers and Applications', 'VLSI
Design and Technology' and 'Embedded System and RTOS' became captivating. With the view of
exploring further aspects of these courses, I tried to delve into the nitty–gritty by taking up small
projects that were not a part of the

The Primary Causes Of Electronic Waste
Electronic Waste
How often do individuals change your electronic equipment? Does anyone know where used
electronic merchandise go to? Electronic waste is called an E–waste that has been becoming a
serious issue all over the world. People should be concerned in this century because E–waste
contains hazardous, toxic ingredients which have adverse effects on society "Toxic chemicals in
electronics products can leach into the land over time or are released into the atmosphere, impacting
nearby communities and the environment" ("Where"). Young people are not aware of the caveat that
used electronic products to bring. E–waste causes not only the environmental problems such as air
and water pollution but also health problems. An amount of E–waste has been increasing rapidly.
Moreover, it has even been turning the land into substantial electronic landfill mountains. Three
primary reasons for electronic waste: waste is the accelerated development of science and
technology, increasing world population and over–consumption.
The first primary cause of the E–waste is the accelerated development of science and technology.
"Acceleration can be measured in the returns of the technology such as speed, efficiency, price–
performance, and overall power–which improve exponentially too" ("Technology"). The last 20
years have notably changed in many aspects because of the technological innovation, and modern
society is filled with various electronic products such as computers, televisions, cell

Electronic Voting Machine
International Journal of Information and Electronics Engineering, Vol. 3, No. 2, March 2013
A Preview on Microcontroller Based Electronic Voting Machine
Diponkar Paul and Sobuj Kumar Ray, Member, IACSIT
Abstract–Voting is most pivotal process of democratic society through which people determine it's
government. Governments around the world are increasingly considering the replacement of
traditional paper–based voting schemes with electronic voting systems. Elections of Bangladesh are
conducted most exclusively using electronic voting machines developed over the past three years. In
this paper we describe the design, construction and operation of a digital voting machine using a
microcontroller profoundly. Again we also portray counting ... Show more content on

Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security guidelines,
insufficient documentation requirements, and inadequate descriptions of the configuration of
commercial software. An electronic voting machine has been designed by a microcontroller for
which the code is written in assembly language. Various code protection schemes specified by the
manufacturer of the microcontroller are used to prevent inadvertent or deliberate reading and
reproduction of the code contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the
EEPROM of the microcontroller can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security
of data in this computer is enforced by generating digital signatures for each data file created. This
process makes it impossible for anyone to substitute wrong or deliberately altered data files at any
intermediate stage between the capturing of voter's intent by the machine and the final results
tabulations. Prior to the election, all configuration data is set up on the counting server. The
configuration is then transferred to the ballot–box server. Configuration data include: candidate
names, polling station identity, and a list of barcodes. During the voting period, voters are
authenticated as per the traditional paper–based voting, and asked whether they wish to vote
electronically or use the traditional paper–based method. A voter

Abstract
The shift towards the use of electronic media in scholarly communication appears to be an
inescapable imperative. However, these shifts are uneven, both with respect to field and with respect
to the form of communication. Different scientific fields have developed and use distinctly different
communicative forums, both in the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see notable risks in a pure laissez–faire "let them work it out for themselves" approach. Large
amounts of money, resources, and effort are being committed (by government agencies, by
academic departments, by publishers, by professional societies, and by individual researchers) to the
development, maintenance, and promotion of various forms of communications technologies for use
in global science. However, in the absence of a valid theory of how scholarly fields adopt and shape
technology, scientists and policy–makers are left only with context–free models, and hence
resources may be committed to projects that are not self–sustainable, that wither, and that do not
effectively improve the scientific communications system of the field. The consequences may not
only be sub–optimal use of financial resources, but also wasted effort on the part of individual
researchers, and even data languishing in marginal, decaying, and dead systems and formats. The
purpose of this JASIS perspectives article is to deepen our understanding of the future of electronic
communications in science. It is difficult to predict the longterm future, as too many contingencies
can and will shape long–term outcomes to make meaningful predictions. One may casually predict
that that many if not all research journals will issue electronic editions in the 21st century; however,

Statement For Sop For Electronics
Today, the world is dominated by the field of electronics. Innovative ideas are coming into existence
in our day to day life. Electronics plays a key role in the organization of any system under
consideration. This trait of electronics extends into a broader scope. Thus, pursuing a career in the
electronics field is my goal. Thus, Masters in Electrical Engineering with Electronics as the major is
an apt choice to reach my goal.
My interest in Electronics sprouted from my childhood days. When I was five, I always had the
habit of breaking remote cars and planes, and explore what is actually present inside. Governing the
operations of the car or television by a remote from a distance was an enigmatic concept to visualize
at that stage. So, what actually constitutes the design of the remote was a question that always been
pondering my mind. It is the small electronic design that controls the entire operation. Thus this
habit went on up to the extent that , I developed the hobby of breaking all the worn out gadgets and
goods such as laptop chargers, cell phones etc. and have a collection of electronic design present in
those gadgets.
In my high school, my physics teacher realised my interest and influenced me in taking a Bachelor

Electronic Waste : The Rising Issue Around The World
Electronic waste is one of the rising issues around the world. Electronic waste includes a significant
amount material containing dangerous substances that are very unfriendly to humans and the
environment. Electronic waste is created through dumping of electronic equipment. Electronic
devices are intended to make our lives easier and better, however the dangerous chemicals inside
them make life a nightmare. Electronic waste from our houses is mostly taken along with the trash
and burned altogether. However, majority of electronic waste is collected altogether and shipped off
to a 3rd world country where health and safety regulations aren't enforced. Majority of electronic
users are unconscious of the negative effects that electronic waste brings upon us.

Electronic Voting Is Not Fair
Electronics always fail, no matter what, I think that the Untited States should stop using electronic
voting because its not really fair and in some ways you get cheated out. In 2013, a national
magazine ran an articile about a man who explained how, with basic computer knowledge and tools,
was able to tamper with votes on EVMs. Life is about being fair and I think everyone should be
treated equal, the time tested method of paper ballots does just that and is the best way to go in my
opinion becuase it works accurately and cannot be tampered with in any way. While electronic
voting is often a more simple proccess and has made voting a lot easier for voters with age or

diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is
it its appearance? No. It's the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a
diamond". "A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well", he quoted. "No

New England Consumer Electronics Market
Tweeter etc. is a small, upscale New England retailer of consumer electronics that was founded by
Sandy Bloomberg in 1972. During that time, there were two major retailers in Boston, Tech Hi–fi
and Lechmere. To avoid direct confrontation, Bloomberg focused on the student market and
emphasize a lot more on sophisticated tastes for higher quality stereo components. As time pass by,
Tweeter build up their reputation and the public consider the company as a retailer of "high quality,
high–end audio components and video equipment, with knowledgeable salespeople who offered
high levels of customer service". Shortly by 1979, Tweeter had expanded to six stores in the Boston

Unlike other retailers in the area, Tweeter does not carry entry to low–end equipment, therefore,
their price is not as competitive as others, which result in a loss in profit.
Problem:
In response to the profitability downturn, Tweeter began to carry more variety of products and
joined the Progressive Retailers Organization in 1988. Unfortunately, public's perception toward
Tweeter remained unchanged. "Customers continued to view Tweeter as more specialized and more
expensive than Lechmere and the other New England retailers". In order to turn the profit around,
the Tweeter's management team came up with the new strategy on 1993 to restore price credibility at
Tweeter. The main emphasis in their new strategy is "Automatic Price Protection", APP. The
objective of APP is to make sure customers are receiving the best price on an given product. "In its
typical form, if a consumer purchased a product at one store and later found it for a lower price at
another store, the consumer could return to the first store with proof of that lower price and get
reimbursed for the difference". Later on "Tweeter took it upon itself to track the local newspapers
and send out rebates. If a consumer purchased an item at Tweeter and it was advertised for less in a
major local newspaper within 30 days, Tweeter automatically mailed that consumer a check for the
difference." Tweeter's shift in strategy was very effective and had a positive effect on financial

Electrical and Electronics products are now commonly found all around the world and the number is
on the rise. The amount of such products that is being disposed is also on the rise. There is a concern
on the environmental effect by such products that is being disposed as well as when it is being
manufacturer. This is because most of these products contain either harmful substance or non bio–
degradable materials which cause an impact on the environment.
For these reasons, regulations and directives are being set up to safe guard and prevent more harm

Even in situations where the copper is recovered and the etchant is regenerated by the waste hauler,
this waste stream may be an environmental hazard. Transportation of the spent etchant and its
ultimate disposition may pose environmental risks and result in increased liability for the PCB
facility.
1.3 Disposal of electronic equipments
Electronic equipment is considered hazardous because of the presence of lead, mercury, cadmium,
chromium, and some types of retardants. For example, some monitors can contain up to 27% lead.
There are four main ways which electronic equipment can be disposed. They are incineration, resale,
donation and recycling.
Destruction of electronics equipment means incineration. Businesses are allowed to dispose of their
hazardous waste in this manner, but the destruction then falls under more restrictive hazardous waste
rules. The incineration process yields some environmentally dirty residue and it is thus not an
entirely green option.
Superficially, resale, looks like a good option. It generates profits for the company, the buyers are
happy, and the electronics are disposed of. However, liability and administration concerns become
an issue. Properly administering a sales program takes time and paperwork, and one has to consider
whether used electronics sales are really what the company is in business to do.
Donation is also a valid option. However, electronics are classified as hazardous

The Pros And Cons Of Electronic Technology
Can you imagine walking into your home without a computer to play games or type a paper?
Without a television to watch the news or your favorite movie? What about without your
smartphone always with you to instantly speak to whomever you want wherever they may be, or
search the web about whatever idea might pop into your head? Only decades ago, no home held
these things. Computers arrived a mere forty years ago and now rest in the hands of millions.
Technological development has increased exponentially from the invention of items like spears and
bowls of the Stone Age. Each idea stems another, giving rise to more and more creations each year.
Technology in the past century has advanced exceptionally fast. Electronic technology improves all
the time, with new phones and machines every year. Although these rapidly expanding
advancements in technology have solved various problems in the past, we should also consider the
problems they have created.
The improper disposal of electronic products, or "e–waste", has become problematic. The rapid
advancements in technology cause electronics to become obsolete, or out–of–date, more quickly.
Because they are being replaced faster, more products are being disposed of, even if they are still
working. Some components of these products have been found to contain hazardous material which
can lead to health effects and environmental pollution. Many people might just throw batteries in the
trash without thinking that they contain dangerous

Technological Experience in Electronics
I have experienced and learned many things about electronics since I was 12. My father taught me
many things about electronic devices. When I was young, before the age of 12, I enjoyed observing
my father as he worked on damaged electronic devices. As I got older, my curiosity became
immense and I started to ask many questions. At first, I got to unscrew the object with screwdrivers.
In the article "How to Use a Screwdriver" by an eHow contributor instructed that rotating the
screwdriver clockwise would insert the screw. If you rotate the screwdriver counter–clockwise it
would remove the screw. I still remember how to insert and remove a screw with a screwdriver until
this day. Then my father would eventually explain the components of the devices and how to
distinguish similar or relatively alike components. Some simple examples are capacitors, which are
shaped differently according to their functionality. The Basic Electronics Tutorials explained "the
Capacitor, sometimes referred to as a Condenser, is a simple passive device that is used to 'store
electricity'." There are many types of capacitors on a circuit board which can be distinguished by
sizes or its relative area that's on the board. There are electrolytic, film, dielectric and ceramic
capacitor. Most electronics use electrolytic capacitors. Capacitors are usually wrapped with a plastic

intention for writing this essay is to make the audience aware of the significant changes that have
started to occur as electronic technologies have developed. He uses various rhetorical devices to
convey his arguments to the readers. Through this essay, he is trying to inform the academic
community that the culture of printed words has ended in the society, while electronic technologies
are starting to dominate. Birkerts uses anecdotes, juxtaposition, ... Show more content on

Birkerts provides three effects that will occur as a result of moving away from the printed word to
the electronic media. The first effect is the language erosion. He explains the reader that transition
from books will lead to the "complexity and distinctiveness of verbal and written communication,
which are deeply bound to transaction of print literacy, will gradually be replaced by a more
telegraphic sort of plainspeak" (9). In the future our language will start to become more simple and
dumb. Whereas, by reading books and printed materials people are able to dig more depth and
understand and imagine the contents. But, soon this will start to disappear as people will no longer
be able to understand the complex language of the literature and intelligence level of people will
start to decrease. The second effect of electronic media is the flattening of historical perspectives.
This means that due to the electronic media the history will start to recede because the "printed page
itself is a link" and when this link is broken the past will gradually diminish (10). Birkerts explains
the audience that the past is best represented in the books and libraries. Therefore, moving away
from the printed word means moving away from the past and its history. The last effect is the
waning of the private self. Birkerts worries that in the future people will forget how to live because

Electronic Game: The Disitive And Positive Effects Of...
1.0 INTRODUCTION
An electronic game is a game that employs electronics to create an interactive system with which a
player can play. The most common form of electronic game today is the video game, and for this
reason the terms are often mistakenly used synonymously. Other common forms of electronic game
include such non–exclusively–visual products as handheld electronic games, standalone systems
(e.g. pinball, slot machines, or electro–mechanical arcade games), and specifically non–visual
products (e.g. audio games).
A video game is a game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on
a video device. The word video in video game traditionally referred to a raster display device.

Communication And Electronic Communication
Technology has become very important, "...more than one thousand children between the ages of 4
and 18 find out how technology was impacting their relationships and their social and emotional
lives" (Catherine Steiner–Adair EdD). Technology is advancing rapidly every single day, in hopes to
make our society adapt better to a technology based future. Communication is the biggest factor that
plays into our everyday jobs. Communicating verbally versus electronically both have the same
intentions. This is to speak clearly, and say what needs to be said, relying strongly on reactions.
Does this affect our society, when people rely more on electronic forms of communication, when
they know miscommunications can be cleared just as fast verbally? The question stands for our
society as a whole. If people rely vastly on electronic communication more everyday, does this
change the way people communicate verbally? The answer is yes, electronic communication affects
more people, than verbal communication does. Humans are born to communicate, as people they
must have communication as a skill to fend for themselves in the world. Technology affects more
people due to social media, texting, emailing and more. Almost every child when born, learns how
to read, write and most importantly, talk. They learn how to say the simple words, and eventually
grow to having their first conversation. This is a monumental step for the child who is learning. In
the technology world as of right now, when

Regulating Electronic cigarettes Electronic cigarettes, also known as e–cigs or vape pens are so
often negatively looked upon as sources of addiction, rather than the health cigarette substitute they
really are. E–cigarettes allow the delivery of nicotine to the blood without the nasty side effects
caused by tars and carcinogens in traditional cigarettes. The electronic cigarette was patented by
Herbert A. Gilbert in 1963, who lived in a society where smoking was generally accepted or even
the norm but he saw the dangers of smoking tobacco and was one of the first to try to innovate
alternate intake methods. 40 years later Han Lik, a chinese businessman, began to further expand on
Herbert A. Gilberts idea of delivery of nicotine without the plethora of harmful chemicals in a lit
cigarette. An electronic cigarette is a battery powered device often designed to look like a regular
cigarette, inside the e–cig is an atomizer which heats up a liquid containing nicotine. When heated
up the liquid becomes a vapor that can be inhaled, similar to cigarette smoke. The FDA (Federal
Drug Agency) wants to regulate the sale and advertisement of e–cigs and require manufacturers to
acquire an expensive medical license. If these regulations were put into place and enforced it would
limit innovation and stifle innovation. Many of the e–cig companies are small or medium sized and

Electronic Cigarettes Essay
Abstract
Smoking traditional cigarettes causes various adverse health effects; however, the causes of smoking
electronic cigarettes remains unknown. The proposal presents a study that will measure fundamental
frequency. Approximately eighty University of Central Florida students who are non–smokers, ages
18 to 24 years old, will smoke an electronic cigarette. Each student will be measured on
fundamental frequency before and after an electronic cigarette smoking session. It is predicated that
a non–smokers' use of an electronic cigarette will immediately produce a reduction in fundamental
frequency, which may serve as a precursor to signal future medical pathologies similar to that of
traditional cigarettes. The comparisons of pre– versus post–smoke sessions for vocal fold vibration
will be analyzed based on the fundamental frequency scoring. The demographic variable, gender,
may also impact fundamental frequency results, and will too be analyzed. The proposal provides an
overview of the literature and specific methodological strategies for implementing the research.
Expected outcomes and future research will be discussed.

Electronic Cigarettes; The New, Legal Way to Pollute the Body Over the last 10 years, a new craze
has taken effect over the world. Electronic cigarettes or E–Cigs, have become popular among all
generations. The question for the reader is simple. Is this alternative form of nicotine dependence
healthy, or is society setting itself up for a big health shock in the upcoming years? "Many anti–
smoking advocates have argued that electronic cigarettes don't help smokers quit but merely prolong
their addiction to nicotine. In other words, the hundreds of thousands of electronic cigarette users in
the United States are smokers who, if only they stopped using e–cigarettes, would successfully quit
smoking" (Siegel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, it is not known if e–cigarettes may lead young people to try other tobacco products,
including conventional cigarettes, which are known to cause disease and lead to premature death"
(U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2103). With a lack of scientific study by the very agency
concerned with the public health, it is safe to say that Electronic Cigarettes should be avoided at all
costs. Do not rush to the finish line based on loose information. No matter what form it comes in,
smoking is bad. There are plenty of toxins that enter the body just from the ambient air that people
breathe, why add more to the mix? Do not be afraid to take a stand and say no more self pollution.

Electronic Cheques Are Electronic Copies Of A Regular...
Electronic cheques are electronic copies of a regular cheque. You are only able to pay with an
electronic cheque by sending an e–mail of it to pay for the item you want. Electronic cheques are
not the most common method of payment for customers as they are often sent to businesses and
companies although they are able to be sent from person to person through a site such as eBay.
Electronic cheques are also signed off digitally by the person/business receiving the cheque to
confirm the receiving of the cheque.
Electronic cheques allow users of e–commerce to pay with an electronic cheque, as an alternative
payment option rather than using a credit or debit card to purchase goods online. Electronic cheques
are more common in the US than in the UK, where credit and debit cards are used by the masses.
Electronic cheques give business, universities, private companies and personal online sellers the
ability to let their customer make an online payment by e–mailing their cheque to the
business/person so they have their payment for their product. E–commerce has allowed for this new
method of payment that has never been used previously by the public and now adds a new type of
convenient payment method for non–credit/debit card users and customers who prefer not to give
their bank details to PayPal or another online banking account.
Electronic cheques however have their negatives, such as the time in which it takes for the
transaction to take place. It can take up to a couple of days

Importance Of Electronic Discovery
1) Why is electronic discovery not an issue in some cases?
In some cases, electronic discovery is actually a good thing when it comes to litigation. Because of
electronic discovery, the law office is now becoming more green since paper documents are now
being replaced by electronic files (Goldman and Hughes, 273). Since documents are now becoming
electronic, someone can also search through millions of pages to find information quickly (Goldman
and Hughes, 273).
3) Why is electronic discovery a process? What are the steps in the process?
Electronic discovery is a process because there are many steps in the process rather than just one
single event (Goldman and Hughes, 250). The electronic discovery process first starts obtaining the
documents, then filtering the documents out for relevant terms. Next, duplicate copies of the
information must be removed. After that, the documents are converted into files that can be
processed like other electronic files. Finally, the document is given a code in order to make locating
the documents much easier (Goldman and Hughes, 273).
4) What are the issues to be considered in choosing the format in which documents are to be
delivered?
There are a variety of issues that must be considered when choosing a document's format of
delivery. The first issue is metadata. Metadata is information from a data set that may describe how,
when and by whom a document was received from (Goldman and Hughes, 254). Having metadata
in a document could result in

"Electronic Wallets are Secure"
Introduction
The idea for paying for goods and services electronically is not a new one. The search for more
efficient ways of doing business is now driving another revolution in the conduct of business and in
our concept of money. This revolution is known as electronic commerce, which is the symbiotic
integration of communications, data management, and security capabilities to allow business
applications within different organizations to automatically exchange information related to the sale
of goods and services. With the advent of the electronic age the concept of value was transferred to
plastic cards with a magnetic stripe which securely carried personal account information. These
cards are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the number of people utilizing the internet increases, the risk of security violations increases with
it. It is true that sometimes the cost of protecting the network outweighs the cost of just leaving it
unprotected, but it is undeniable that the cost of protecting the network becomes nontrivial as more
services such as electronic wallets become available. Some of the threats that stimulated the upsurge
for people with the lack of security were compromise of clients ' financial details (credit card
numbers, etc) which may result in the unauthorized transfer of funds, development of a method of
obtaining the goods or services without making the appropriate payment and other methods
permitting the unauthorized transfer of funds. Regardless of how a payments system is constructed
these attacks are always more or less practical although some techniques can virtually eliminate the
risk of one or another.
The major reason electronic wallets has not yet taken off to its full potential is because, until
recently, there has not been a readily available, widely deployed foolproof way of preventing fraud
and theft of sensitive financial information.
Implementing security involves assessing the possible threats to one 's network, servers and
information. The goal would be to then attempt to minimize the threat as much as possible without
making it difficult for legitimate users to access the information.

Conventional cigarettes emit tobacco smoke, which is the most significant air quality tissue.6 The
most harm aspect of tobacco smoke is the combustion of chemicals.4 It has been declared a Group 1
carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.5 Carcinogens are continuously
emitted through a smoking session and is exposed to smokers and nonsmokers alike.4 Smoking in
public buildings has been banned in the United States and Europe to improve indoor air quality.6

Electronic cigarettes and cartridges are unregulated and vary from company to company. This
results in electronic cigarettes with different designs, materials, combustion voltages, and liquid
cartridge concentrations.4 Other differences include an open or closed system used in an e–cigarette
and the user's individual puffing topography.3 All studies provided in this paper conclude that
electronic cigarettes produce lower levels of pollutants, making electronic cigarettes safer for the
user, bystanders, and the environment when compared to conventional cigarettes. Schober et al.
reports further research needs to be conducted to address long–term effects of using electronic
cigarettes. Oh et al. reports further research should be done on the various nicotine dosing, flavors of
liquid cartridges, and various voltages. Oh also remarks that these studies use different brands and
types of electronic cigarettes that have different doses of liquid cartridges. Ario et al. reports that
second–hand exposure should be further investigated to find possible health issues. Colard et al.
reports that further studies should be done to report concentrations in different locations, with
different distances from the user and the bystanders, and with different vaping behaviors (puff
volume, frequency, and inhalation). Bertholon et al. reports that the toxicity of long terms will vary
based on the additives and contaminants in propylene glycol and/or glycerol. O'Connell et al.
reported that there are limits in the studies because there were different methods used, in addition to
the different designs and manufacturing of electronic cigarettes, and because some findings were not
replicated. O'Connell et al. proposes focusing on consumer exposure and using different product

The truth about the e–cigarettes
Many people who want to quit smoking search for hope in electronic cigarettes.
But the question arises: Are the electronic cigarettes harmful to your health?
E–cigarettes cause resistance in the air in the lungs, which means that blood flow is distributed less
oxygen than usual, so the respiratory organs can easily be damaged, writes "Daily Mail".
This resistance lasts up to 10 minutes and current causes damage to the lungs, the study confirmed.
"There is no evidence that electronic cigarettes are safer than ordinary, despite what you claim the

Electronic cigarettes may be safer than ordinary, because the biggest danger of cigarettes are
substances that are released during the combustion of tobacco and electronic cigarettes reduce it,
and further it does not burn, so not flammable.
But there is still not enough information about the risks of their long term use and side effects.
Electronic cigarettes are more preferred because it reduces the risk of disease and death caused by
the tobacco, while others believe that electronic cigarettes can lead the nonsmokers and children to
use it, and that the production of electronic cigarettes additionally increases the popularization of
tobacco.

centers to eight, each with its own overhead cost allocation rate. As a result, it appears that the total
costs for four of their six radios will increase, while two will decrease. This poses a great deal of
issues concerning Shun Electronics:
Standard cost of product change
Longer–run functions such as price change, make/buy decisions, financial planning and corporate

proven to be one of the most harmful habits one can possess. When it comes to the death toll cause
by diseases due to smoking like cancer diseases, lung or respiratory diseases, scientists have already
taken the inititative to counter this very issue and have come up with a remarkable alternative to
smoking i.e Electronic cigarettes.
Following are the reasons why one should switch to E cigarettes
1–The normail cigerattes have tar wheresas the electronic cigarettes are tar free and contain 99 %
less nicotine than normal tobacco coigerates. The traditional cigarette contains about 600 harmful
ingredients and causes human body break down over a period of time. When the tobacco in the

The Pros And Cons Of Electronic Monitoring
Electronic monitoring is a device that allows Justice Officers and officials to ensure an offender is at
a certain location when 65 required to be there. The use of the monitoring device is becoming more
popular as a way to control and supervise offenders within the community to ensure citizens are
safe. In the mid–1960 a Harvard Psychologist Robert Schwitzgebel developed the first electronic
monitoring device. The device was intended to provide an inexpensive alternative for offenders than
incarceration or within the justice process. Even though the device was patented in 1969 it didn't
start coming into effect until the 1980's. It's used by courts to track the location of offenders that are

These accused offenders are only released by recognizance bond which is a bond that doesn't require
a payment. In most of the recognizance bond cases within the United States the judge orders the
accused to be electronically monitored. Riskier clients with serious charges, repeat offenders, and
ones that already have a form of community supervision or a history of failure to appear are the ones
that are supervised with electronic monitoring. It's noted that clients who are electronically
monitored commit more technical violations than accused that aren't being monitored. But is
outweighed because the non–monitored clients have more failure to appear violations and new arrest
than offenders that are electronically monitored. An alternative to pretrial detention, supervision
with selective use of electronic monitoring. With electronic monitoring use, higher risk clientele can
be released with effective supervision. Pre–trial monitoring depends on how high the risk is for the
accused to be released into society with monitoring supervision and the decision is based on the
judges thoughts and assumptions on facts that have been gathered on the offenders past. PIR reports
are filled out by officers and prior probation officers if the offender has been in custody before. The

Statement Of Purpose In Electronics

  • 1. Statement Of Purpose In Electronics Statement of Purpose John Serin Varghese Term: Fall 2015 Since my school days, I was always curious about how automated gadgets and devices work. Various TV programs gave me some insight into the world of electronics. Vocational electronics course in my higher secondary education acquainted me to the basics of electronics. After starting my undergraduate course in electronics and tele–communication engineering, basic courses like 'Basic Electronics Engineering', 'Solid State Devices and Circuits' and 'Digital Logic Design' gave me a deeper understanding of the building blocks of electronics like diodes, transistors and ICs. Not only did these courses managed to partially sate this curiosity that I had since my childhood, but also inspired me to explore the world of electronics further. ... 'Accelerometer based ECU using CAN protocol', our third year mini project, was my first experience in designing, testing and prototyping an embedded system application which included the use of a microcontroller to transfer tilt angle information from accelerometer which is a MEMS device. The success in my maiden attempt increased my interest in the field of microelectronics and embedded system applications. Study of subjects like 'Microcontrollers and Applications', 'VLSI Design and Technology' and 'Embedded System and RTOS' became captivating. With the view of exploring further aspects of these courses, I tried to delve into the nitty–gritty by taking up small projects that were not a part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Primary Causes Of Electronic Waste Electronic Waste How often do individuals change your electronic equipment? Does anyone know where used electronic merchandise go to? Electronic waste is called an E–waste that has been becoming a serious issue all over the world. People should be concerned in this century because E–waste contains hazardous, toxic ingredients which have adverse effects on society "Toxic chemicals in electronics products can leach into the land over time or are released into the atmosphere, impacting nearby communities and the environment" ("Where"). Young people are not aware of the caveat that used electronic products to bring. E–waste causes not only the environmental problems such as air and water pollution but also health problems. An amount of E–waste has been increasing rapidly. Moreover, it has even been turning the land into substantial electronic landfill mountains. Three primary reasons for electronic waste: waste is the accelerated development of science and technology, increasing world population and over–consumption. The first primary cause of the E–waste is the accelerated development of science and technology. "Acceleration can be measured in the returns of the technology such as speed, efficiency, price– performance, and overall power–which improve exponentially too" ("Technology"). The last 20 years have notably changed in many aspects because of the technological innovation, and modern society is filled with various electronic products such as computers, televisions, cell ... • 7. Electronic Voting Machine International Journal of Information and Electronics Engineering, Vol. 3, No. 2, March 2013 A Preview on Microcontroller Based Electronic Voting Machine Diponkar Paul and Sobuj Kumar Ray, Member, IACSIT Abstract–Voting is most pivotal process of democratic society through which people determine it's government. Governments around the world are increasingly considering the replacement of traditional paper–based voting schemes with electronic voting systems. Elections of Bangladesh are conducted most exclusively using electronic voting machines developed over the past three years. In this paper we describe the design, construction and operation of a digital voting machine using a microcontroller profoundly. Again we also portray counting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security guidelines, insufficient documentation requirements, and inadequate descriptions of the configuration of commercial software. An electronic voting machine has been designed by a microcontroller for which the code is written in assembly language. Various code protection schemes specified by the manufacturer of the microcontroller are used to prevent inadvertent or deliberate reading and reproduction of the code contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the EEPROM of the microcontroller can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security of data in this computer is enforced by generating digital signatures for each data file created. This process makes it impossible for anyone to substitute wrong or deliberately altered data files at any intermediate stage between the capturing of voter's intent by the machine and the final results tabulations. Prior to the election, all configuration data is set up on the counting server. The configuration is then transferred to the ballot–box server. Configuration data include: candidate names, polling station identity, and a list of barcodes. During the voting period, voters are authenticated as per the traditional paper–based voting, and asked whether they wish to vote electronically or use the traditional paper–based method. A voter ... Electronic Media Not Just a Matter of Time: Field Differences and the Shaping of Electronic Media in Supporting Scientific Communication Rob Kling & Geoffrey McKim April 27, 2000 Indiana University School of Library and Information Science 10th & Jordan, Bloomington, IN 47405 USA +1 812 855 5113 kling@indiana.edu, mckimg@indiana.edu Accepted for publication in: Journal of the American Society for Information Science Abstract The shift towards the use of electronic media in scholarly communication appears to be an inescapable imperative. However, these shifts are uneven, both with respect to field and with respect to the form of communication. Different scientific fields have developed and use distinctly different communicative forums, both in the paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see notable risks in a pure laissez–faire "let them work it out for themselves" approach. Large amounts of money, resources, and effort are being committed (by government agencies, by academic departments, by publishers, by professional societies, and by individual researchers) to the development, maintenance, and promotion of various forms of communications technologies for use in global science. However, in the absence of a valid theory of how scholarly fields adopt and shape technology, scientists and policy–makers are left only with context–free models, and hence resources may be committed to projects that are not self–sustainable, that wither, and that do not effectively improve the scientific communications system of the field. The consequences may not only be sub–optimal use of financial resources, but also wasted effort on the part of individual researchers, and even data languishing in marginal, decaying, and dead systems and formats. The purpose of this JASIS perspectives article is to deepen our understanding of the future of electronic communications in science. It is difficult to predict the longterm future, as too many contingencies can and will shape long–term outcomes to make meaningful predictions. One may casually predict that that many if not all research journals will issue electronic editions in the 21st century; however, more complex issues about the role of ... • 11. Statement For Sop For Electronics Today, the world is dominated by the field of electronics. Innovative ideas are coming into existence in our day to day life. Electronics plays a key role in the organization of any system under consideration. This trait of electronics extends into a broader scope. Thus, pursuing a career in the electronics field is my goal. Thus, Masters in Electrical Engineering with Electronics as the major is an apt choice to reach my goal. My interest in Electronics sprouted from my childhood days. When I was five, I always had the habit of breaking remote cars and planes, and explore what is actually present inside. Governing the operations of the car or television by a remote from a distance was an enigmatic concept to visualize at that stage. So, what actually constitutes the design of the remote was a question that always been pondering my mind. It is the small electronic design that controls the entire operation. Thus this habit went on up to the extent that , I developed the hobby of breaking all the worn out gadgets and goods such as laptop chargers, cell phones etc. and have a collection of electronic design present in those gadgets. In my high school, my physics teacher realised my interest and influenced me in taking a Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in one of the most prestigious institutions ... Electronic Voting Is Not Fair Electronics always fail, no matter what, I think that the Untited States should stop using electronic voting because its not really fair and in some ways you get cheated out. In 2013, a national magazine ran an articile about a man who explained how, with basic computer knowledge and tools, was able to tamper with votes on EVMs. Life is about being fair and I think everyone should be treated equal, the time tested method of paper ballots does just that and is the best way to go in my opinion becuase it works accurately and cannot be tampered with in any way. While electronic voting is often a more simple proccess and has made voting a lot easier for voters with age or disabilty and 97% of people with different age, races, and physical ability, ... During that time, there were two major retailers in Boston, Tech Hi–fi and Lechmere. To avoid direct confrontation, Bloomberg focused on the student market and emphasize a lot more on sophisticated tastes for higher quality stereo components. As time pass by, Tweeter build up their reputation and the public consider the company as a retailer of "high quality, high–end audio components and video equipment, with knowledgeable salespeople who offered high levels of customer service". Unfortunately, public's perception toward Tweeter remained unchanged. "Customers continued to view Tweeter as more specialized and more expensive than Lechmere and the other New England retailers". In order to turn the profit around, the Tweeter's management team came up with the new strategy on 1993 to restore price credibility at Tweeter. The main emphasis in their new strategy is "Automatic Price Protection", APP. The objective of APP is to make sure customers are receiving the best price on an given product. "In its typical form, if a consumer purchased a product at one store and later found it for a lower price at another store, the consumer could return to the first store with proof of that lower price and get reimbursed for the difference". Later on "Tweeter took it upon itself to track the local newspapers and send out rebates. If a consumer purchased an item at Tweeter and it was advertised for less in a major local newspaper within 30 days, Tweeter automatically mailed that consumer a check for the difference." Even in situations where the copper is recovered and the etchant is regenerated by the waste hauler, this waste stream may be an environmental hazard. Transportation of the spent etchant and its ultimate disposition may pose environmental risks and result in increased liability for the PCB facility. 1.3 Disposal of electronic equipments Electronic equipment is considered hazardous because of the presence of lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, and some types of retardants. For example, some monitors can contain up to 27% lead. There are four main ways which electronic equipment can be disposed. They are incineration, resale, donation and recycling. Destruction of electronics equipment means incineration. Businesses are allowed to dispose of their hazardous waste in this manner, but the destruction then falls under more restrictive hazardous waste rules. The incineration process yields some environmentally dirty residue and it is thus not an entirely green option. Superficially, resale, looks like a good option. It generates profits for the company, the buyers are happy, and the electronics are disposed of. However, liability and administration concerns become an issue. Properly administering a sales program takes time and paperwork, and one has to consider whether used electronics sales are really what the company is in business to do. Without a television to watch the news or your favorite movie? What about without your smartphone always with you to instantly speak to whomever you want wherever they may be, or search the web about whatever idea might pop into your head? Only decades ago, no home held these things. Computers arrived a mere forty years ago and now rest in the hands of millions. Technological development has increased exponentially from the invention of items like spears and bowls of the Stone Age. Each idea stems another, giving rise to more and more creations each year. Technology in the past century has advanced exceptionally fast. Electronic technology improves all the time, with new phones and machines every year. Although these rapidly expanding advancements in technology have solved various problems in the past, we should also consider the problems they have created. The improper disposal of electronic products, or "e–waste", has become problematic. The rapid advancements in technology cause electronics to become obsolete, or out–of–date, more quickly. When I was young, before the age of 12, I enjoyed observing my father as he worked on damaged electronic devices. As I got older, my curiosity became immense and I started to ask many questions. At first, I got to unscrew the object with screwdrivers. In the article "How to Use a Screwdriver" by an eHow contributor instructed that rotating the screwdriver clockwise would insert the screw. If you rotate the screwdriver counter–clockwise it would remove the screw. I still remember how to insert and remove a screw with a screwdriver until this day. Then my father would eventually explain the components of the devices and how to distinguish similar or relatively alike components. Some simple examples are capacitors, which are shaped differently according to their functionality. The Basic Electronics Tutorials explained "the Capacitor, sometimes referred to as a Condenser, is a simple passive device that is used to 'store electricity'." There are many types of capacitors on a circuit board which can be distinguished by sizes or its relative area that's on the board. There are electrolytic, film, dielectric and ceramic capacitor. "In Into the Electronic Millennium", Birkerts discusses his concerns with the oncoming electronic world. Birkerts provides lots of cons about the electronic devices that can affect people's lives. The author's intention for writing this essay is to make the audience aware of the significant changes that have started to occur as electronic technologies have developed. He uses various rhetorical devices to convey his arguments to the readers. Through this essay, he is trying to inform the academic community that the culture of printed words has ended in the society, while electronic technologies are starting to dominate. Birkerts uses anecdotes, juxtaposition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Birkerts provides three effects that will occur as a result of moving away from the printed word to the electronic media. The first effect is the language erosion. He explains the reader that transition from books will lead to the "complexity and distinctiveness of verbal and written communication, which are deeply bound to transaction of print literacy, will gradually be replaced by a more telegraphic sort of plainspeak" (9). In the future our language will start to become more simple and dumb. Whereas, by reading books and printed materials people are able to dig more depth and understand and imagine the contents. But, soon this will start to disappear as people will no longer be able to understand the complex language of the literature and intelligence level of people will start to decrease. The second effect of electronic media is the flattening of historical perspectives. This means that due to the electronic media the history will start to recede because the "printed page itself is a link" and when this link is broken the past will gradually diminish (10). Birkerts explains the audience that the past is best represented in the books and libraries. Therefore, moving away from the printed word means moving away from the past and its history. The last effect is the waning of the private self. Birkerts worries that in the future people will forget how to live because of the electronic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Communicating verbally versus electronically both have the same intentions. This is to speak clearly, and say what needs to be said, relying strongly on reactions. Does this affect our society, when people rely more on electronic forms of communication, when they know miscommunications can be cleared just as fast verbally? The question stands for our society as a whole. If people rely vastly on electronic communication more everyday, does this change the way people communicate verbally? Regulating Electronic Cigarettes : Electronic Cigarette Cerro Scherer and Tanner Abourezk Mrs. Houseberg Sophomore english 5 February 2015 Regulating Electronic cigarettes Electronic cigarettes, also known as e–cigs or vape pens are so often negatively looked upon as sources of addiction, rather than the health cigarette substitute they really are. E–cigarettes allow the delivery of nicotine to the blood without the nasty side effects caused by tars and carcinogens in traditional cigarettes. The electronic cigarette was patented by Herbert A. Gilbert in 1963, who lived in a society where smoking was generally accepted or even the norm but he saw the dangers of smoking tobacco and was one of the first to try to innovate alternate intake methods. 40 years later Han Lik, a chinese businessman, began to further expand on Herbert A. Gilberts idea of delivery of nicotine without the plethora of harmful chemicals in a lit cigarette. An electronic cigarette is a battery powered device often designed to look like a regular cigarette, inside the e–cig is an atomizer which heats up a liquid containing nicotine. When heated up the liquid becomes a vapor that can be inhaled, similar to cigarette smoke. The FDA (Federal Drug Agency) wants to regulate the sale and advertisement of e–cigs and require manufacturers to acquire an expensive medical license. If these regulations were put into place and enforced it would limit innovation and stifle innovation. Many of the e–cig companies are small or medium sized and family owned and if ... The proposal presents a study that will measure fundamental frequency. Approximately eighty University of Central Florida students who are non–smokers, ages 18 to 24 years old, will smoke an electronic cigarette. Each student will be measured on fundamental frequency before and after an electronic cigarette smoking session. • 57. Importance Of Electronic Discovery 1) Why is electronic discovery not an issue in some cases? In some cases, electronic discovery is actually a good thing when it comes to litigation. Because of electronic discovery, the law office is now becoming more green since paper documents are now being replaced by electronic files (Goldman and Hughes, 273). Since documents are now becoming electronic, someone can also search through millions of pages to find information quickly (Goldman and Hughes, 273). 3) Why is electronic discovery a process? What are the steps in the process? Electronic discovery is a process because there are many steps in the process rather than just one single event (Goldman and Hughes, 250). The electronic discovery process first starts obtaining the documents, then filtering the documents out for relevant terms. Next, duplicate copies of the information must be removed. After that, the documents are converted into files that can be processed like other electronic files. Finally, the document is given a code in order to make locating the documents much easier (Goldman and Hughes, 273). 4) What are the issues to be considered in choosing the format in which documents are to be delivered? There are a variety of issues that must be considered when choosing a document's format of delivery. The first issue is metadata. Metadata is information from a data set that may describe how, when and by whom a document was received from (Goldman and Hughes, 254). Having metadata in a document could result in ... It is true that sometimes the cost of protecting the network outweighs the cost of just leaving it unprotected, but it is undeniable that the cost of protecting the network becomes nontrivial as more services such as electronic wallets become available. Some of the threats that stimulated the upsurge for people with the lack of security were compromise of clients ' financial details (credit card numbers, etc) which may result in the unauthorized transfer of funds, development of a method of obtaining the goods or services without making the appropriate payment and other methods permitting the unauthorized transfer of funds. Regardless of how a payments system is constructed these attacks are always more or less practical although some techniques can virtually eliminate the risk of one or another. The major reason electronic wallets has not yet taken off to its full potential is because, until recently, there has not been a readily available, widely deployed foolproof way of preventing fraud and theft of sensitive financial information. Overhead costs rates are revised annually but the standard for direct labor and material are only changed when prices, production methods or production designed are changed significantly. However, an employee of Shun, Manjit, has decided to change the method in which Shun Electronics calculates its costs of its products. Manjit wants to expand the three departmental cost centers to eight, each with its own overhead cost allocation rate. As a result, it appears that the total costs for four of their six radios will increase, while two will decrease. This poses a great deal of issues concerning Shun Electronics: Standard cost of product change Longer–run functions such as price change, make/buy decisions, financial planning and corporate management evaluation divisional performance are altered significantly This new costing method may change current incentives of managers Profit margins for some products decreased while others increased This poses us with three alternatives we can take for Shun Electronics: 1. Continue on with our current cost model 2. Adopt Manjit's cost model 3. Alter Manjits model and compute new numbers FIRST ALTERNATIVE 1. Continue on with our current cost model
