Kasabian is a UK indie rock band known for their edgy brand identity. They originally consisted of four members and were signed to major American record labels, which helped their music sell globally but also put pressure on their creativity. Kasabian cultivates a raw, minimalist image through their predominantly black and white clothing, facial expressions conveying anger, and blank white backgrounds in photoshoots. This visual identity is meant to suggest their music is bare and authentic. Their star image is constructed through media and consumed by fans, particularly appealing to young indie rock audiences through meanings of simple yet unique styles.
This is my specific genre research for the indie rock genre as this will be what I base my final music magazine on. I answered the following questions:
1. History of this genre- its beginning
2. What are the codes and conventions
3. What magazines for this music genre are there?
4. How wide or small is your audience/fans?
5. Keys artists in the development of the genre /present day
6. Record label names in this genre?

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
2. Introduction
• Kasabian are a UK band, featuring music that
belongs to t he indie rock genre.
• The band's original members consisted of
vocalist Tom Meighan, guitarist and vocalist
Sergio Pizzorno, guitarist Chris Karloff, and
bassist Chris Edwards.
3. Record label
• Kasabian has been under the record labels
‘Columbia records’ (which is under ownership
of ‘Sony music entertainment’) and RCA
records. Both are American record labels which
allows for the band to have their music to be
sold more successfully globally. Unfortunately,
these are flagship record labels in the US and
therefore put creative pressure on Kasabian
which limits their creativity and time.
4. ‘Common values’
• Their clothes are black and white dominant, which
conveys a common imagery in Indie rock stars with
lack of colour.
• The facial expressions they use connote emotions of
anger or hostility. This edginess is used regularly to
intensify their indie rock brand identity.
• Most of their photoshoots consist of a blank white
background. This shows that their music is raw and
grounded. Most indie rock bands feature a similar
look to connote a sense of bareness to their visual
identity to say that ‘What you see is what you get’.
5. Richard Dyer’s features
• The Kasabian members are an
image, constructed through
magazines such as ‘NME’ and
music videos.
• They are a commodity
produced and consumed
based on their strengths and
meanings, which in this case
is their edginess and humour.
• Their image is made up of
meanings such as raw and
simple but stark and unique,
which is attracted to the
young average demographic
audience of the indie rock
genre.
6. Richard Dyer’s 2 paradoxes
• PARADOX ONE. The star must be simultaneously ordinary yet extraordinary for the
consumer. In Kasabian's case, They have to have a coherent brand identity so the
audience so that they know what to expect from them but they also have to try
something different such as in their new album “48:13” where they feature pink
instead of white in order to not let the consumer become bored of their look.
• PARADOX 2. The star must be present and absent simultaneously for the
consumer. Kasabian have been present in the media when promoting their
albums. Between albums, when they are in the process of writing new music, they
get very little or no media coverage and so they are absent whilst there is no news
circulating around them but present when there is.
