• Rihanna’s digipak follows the theme of pop. The colour scheme of red is a
reoccurring colour in pop to symbolise love and passion, the same can be
said about the bed of roses she is laid upon. Red is also a bold, eye-catching
colour- which could refer to the male gaze theory.
• The way she is posed in the flip out part of the album suggests a strong
theme of femininity, constructed by possibly a male photographer.
• Her name is in a smaller, simplistic font, which could signify that her name
doesn’t need to be shown in big, flashy fonts/text just to grab a consumers
attention. She isn’t a debut album for a new and upcoming artist, Rihanna is
well known and a celebrity so just looking at an image of her and consumers
would know who she is.
• The digipak promotes her as a artist, appeals to her target audience females with the bright colours and the roses, and the males with her
parted red lips which is subtle, but quite seductive.

artist’s name and name of album. This could just be substance over style
matter, and the artist didn’t feel the need to have a design on the disc.
This appeals to target audience as there isn’t anything in flashy texts/fonts or
anyone in any sexual poses to sell the album to the consumer, which is typical
of the Indie genre as the attention is given more to the artist and their music,
rather than mainstream artists relying on reputations and good looks.

The hardcover for the album features all the band members of the Script,
which is typical of the rock genre. It has each member looking off into the
distance in different directions, wearing almost all black and leather. This is a
typical convention of rock, creating a sense of strong masculinity and that
they’ve rebellious attitudes.
It has dark and bright colours, which could symbolise that there are a mix of
emotions throughout the album. Typical of rock bands to have songs being
angry, or sad, to fun and letting go.
The actual album cover has hands clasping each other and on the back cover it
has hands held against each other, which could mean something about
togetherness, connected to title of album “Science & Faith”. It could also be
interpreted as an album of struggle, the colour contrast adding to the effect.
The disc is also black like Ben Howard’s disc, except in this one it has a symbol
similar to gamma radiation. This relates to the title “Science & Faith”, but
radiation being deadly could also come back to the conventions of being a
rock star, they’re not to be messed with.
