Meaning and Importance of Genetic Engineering by Aira J. Sinielairazygy
Genetic engineering involves directly manipulating an organism's genome using biotechnology techniques such as isolating genes, modifying genes to be transferred between organisms of different or same species, and knocking out genes. It has several potential benefits and applications, including preventing hereditary diseases, treating infectious diseases, producing desirable traits in animals and plants, increasing genetic diversity, and reducing threats like global warming. However, genetic engineering requires humans to be good stewards of the knowledge and technology to ensure its proper use.
This article discusses the role of purpose in leadership and argues that it is an important but often overlooked aspect. It seeks to distinguish purpose from related concepts like vision and goals. While purpose may be implied in discussions of results, the article argues more attention needs to be given to the tensions that can exist between corporate and societal purposes. The authors develop a framework for examining how leadership can help balance these purposes through a process of sensemaking. They conclude by outlining a research agenda to further study leadership as purpose.
