To find a logical explanation scientists looked for a common thread in the cases. This common thread seemed to be alcohol. During this Victorian

For many years Spontaneous Generation was believed to be true. Spontaneous generation is the thought that living organisms could be created from
nonliving organisms. Just like mice coming from underwear, flies coming from decaying meat, and squirrels coming from acorns there are many

from the mud of previously dry lakes. Spontaneous generation is the incorrect hypothesis that nonliving things are capable of producing life. Several

In considering Cather's characters, they don't become fully Americanized within a generation. At the beginning of the novel, it seems like they are
more in tuned with the rest of America. They are economically stable. But when Carl comes back on his first visit, Lou and Oscar scorn him about

On what seems like an ordinary Saturday for Trisha McFarland, the main character in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King, will soon

Appalachian woods for a full week before being rescued. Though, throughout this novel, it is questionable if Trisha is actually nine because of her
interests, maturity of the situation, and extensive knowledge as they seem more likely to be of a teenager or even young adult. To begin, one reason to
question if Trisha is actually nine is because of her interests. Now, the majority of nine–year–olds are into riding their bike, coloring, playing with dolls,
toy cars, and even playing outside, but not reading The Hobbit like Trisha. Sure, a few nine–year–olds may be into reading, picture books and short
stories, but definitely not a 300–page fantasy novel! Consequently, Trisha seems more like a pre–teen rather than nine. As the author writes, "we should

Louis Pasteur was born on December 27, 1822, in the town of Dole, in eastern France, about 249 miles south–east of Paris. After several years, Louis'
family moved to a nearby town named Arbois. Louis did attended school in Arbois but had poor results for the exception of art. Most if not many of

The knowledge system of a society can be divided into two bodies of knowledge, shared and personal knowledge. Shared knowledge is a knowledge
that shared and group of individuals it is also continually being contributed creating new forms of knowledge. While personal knowledge is knowledge
that someone gains through the own experiences and research. Now in the natural sciences a scientist can further their personal knowledge through

Bazarovism And Nihilism
During the 1860s, there were new, different streams of thoughts that were emerging. In Fathers and Sons, Bazarov was a nihilist, and represented the
younger generation who believed in Bazarovism. Turgenev's description of Bazarov and his attempts to change Nikolai Petrovich Kirsanov, a
Romantic, reveals what Turgenev thought toward nihilists. Bazarov's actions and thoughts mirror the thoughts of those young scholars during the
1860s. Throughout his novel, Turgenev's portrayal of Bazarov create a description of Bazarovism, a different and new type of literary type and thought
for Russia during the 1860s. These new literary and intellectual types of thought grew from the generational difference between the fathers and the
sons. As it grew out of a difference between generations, Bazarovism is largely different from Romanticism, what the fathers believe in, and is related to
nihilism.
Turgenev, in describing what type of person Bazarov was, coined the term nihilism. In Fathers and Sons, Arkady, Nikolai's son, states that Bazarov is
a nihilist. Turgenev then describes the actions of Bazarov, creating a new intellectual thought, Bazarovism. Bazarovism is mostly derived from his
own actions and views, but is also influenced by others' reactions to the way Bazarov acts. As a nihilist, Bazarov rejects anything unless it has been

interaction between an old man, a young waiter, and an older waiter. The story takes place at a cafГ© in Madrid, during the era following the "Lost
Generation" and is apparent, given the contrasting perspectives of the characters. The part of the story where the young waiter refills the old man's
brandy with an agitated demeanor and the old man desires nothing more than to drink continuously, as he does on a nightly basis, illuminates the
broader concerns of the of the story. This passage, although centered around the story's supporting characters, unveils the idea of nothingness before the
reader's introduction to the word nada. Hemingway's "A Clean, Well–Lighted Place," is a revelation to the elaborate complexity of emotional
fulfillment versus the existential crisis of spiritual and emotional emptiness, between the young and the old, throughout this particular generational gap.
Throughout the passage, we see the young waiter go through a wide range of emotions, beginning with him feeling irritated, which becomes
perceivable after his initial statement: a terse "What do you want?" directed at the old man (153). He then becomes condescending, telling the old man
that he will "be drunk" if he continues drinking, knowing that he cannot hear him and that getting drunk is, evidently, the old man's intentions (154).
