1. Essay On Charles Dickens
Crafting an essay on Charles Dickens is a challenging endeavor that requires a deep
understanding of the author's life, works, and the socio-cultural context of his time. Dickens, a
literary giant of the Victorian era, wrote extensively on the struggles of the poor, the injustices of
society, and the human condition. To do justice to such a multifaceted figure, one must delve
into his numerous novels, short stories, and essays, deciphering the nuances of his writing style
and the underlying themes he wove into his narratives.
The complexity of this task lies not only in the sheer volume of Dickens' work but also in the
need to analyze and synthesize information from various sources to present a comprehensive and
insightful perspective. Dickens' characters are richly layered, and his storytelling techniques are
intricate, requiring careful examination and interpretation.
Moreover, a successful essay on Charles Dickens must go beyond a mere retelling of his
biography or a summary of his major works. It should delve into the historical and cultural
influences that shaped his writings, exploring the societal issues he addressed and how his
literature reflected the tumultuous times in which he lived. This demands extensive research,
critical thinking, and the ability to connect seemingly disparate elements into a coherent narrative.
In addition to content, the essay's structure and writing style must meet high academic
standards. The introduction should captivate the reader's interest, the body must present a well-
organized and insightful analysis, and the conclusion should leave a lasting impression.
Achieving this balance requires not only a mastery of the subject matter but also proficiency in
the art of essay writing.

2. The History Of Antidepressants And Its Effects On The...
The history of antidepressants began with isoniazid, which was an anti tuberculosis
medication. This came after finding that the medication had euphoric effects on the
patients taking it. The drug had a mood altering side effect which later became the
primary effect for depression and was a basis for synthesis of generations of new
antidepressants (Indian J Psychiatry, 2011). Antidepressants are psychiatric
medications given to patients with depressive disorders to alleviate symptoms (MNT,
2012). Neurotransmitters in the brain can cause changes in mood and behavior,
antidepressants can help correct these chemical imbalances. Many psychiatric
conditions can be treated with antidepressants including anxiety disorders and
dysthymia. According to medicalnewstoday.com, there were 13.3 million people
using antidepressants in 1996 by 2010 that number jumped to 23.3 million. The
website goes on to say they believe the increase in antidepressantuse can be credited
to a higher need for mental health treatments, campaigns promoting mental health
care being more widespread and mental health treatments becoming more widely
accepted. In the years since the antidepressant age came to be many new
antidepressants have been made, the Royal College of Psychiatrist say there are at
least thirty different kinds of antidepressants, all of which can be divided into five
main types.
There are five main types of antidepressants; MAOIs, NASSAs, SNRIs, SSRIs and
Tricyclics. MAOI stands for monoamine
3. My Experience At Summer Camp
You and your sister are soooooo different, my friend, who I had met at summer
camp a couple years before, informed me as we stood beneath the blistering sun,
our necks slicked with sweat and our throats parched. Approximately two second
before Julia spoke those words, my sister had attempted to do a cartwheel in front
of the whole camp, failed miserably, and screamed out in amusement. The episode
was followed first by a simultaneous gasp from the mouths of 200 campers, in fear
of her injury, and then a fit of booming laughter when she stuck up her thumb and
smiled. While everyone stood around watching her, I pouted on the sidelines of the
common field and shook my head in shame. Of course I wanted to be in on the fun,
laughing and jumping and doing gymnastics with the rest of West Mountain Camp
s population. But instead, I felt forced into a reputation created for me so many
years ago as the quiet, calm and mature twin sister of the rambunctious and
outgoing Chloe Blumberg. Always sitting on the sidelines, reading my books,
doling out my wise words and keeping my sister in check. The funny thing is, I can
t remember it ever being different. I was always told by my mom, dad and
grandparents that I was the quiet and mature one of the duo, and that I didn t need
to get attention in the way Chloe always did because my intelligence was enough to
give me the recognition I needed. Chloe was just always so loud and clumsy that by
default I was destined to be the other one, more in
4. The Age Of Exploration By Christopher Columbus
The fifteenth to seventeenth century is known as the Age of Exploration . Europe
began to colonize the countries they had discovered . A major part of the world that
they colonized was Latin America. Spain was the first to colonize, and the United
States started to take interest in Latin America towards the 19th century. Europe and
The United Statesboth took interest in Latin America, but for different reasons.
Spain was the first European nation to colonize Latin America, beginning with
Christopher Columbus voyage in 1492. Columbus conquered Hispaniola, an island in
the Caribbean Sea. A few decades later, Spain sent Hernando Cortez to conquer the
Aztec Empire in 1519. In 1535, the Spanish moved deeper into South America and
conquered the Incan Empire with the help of Francisco Pizarro.
When Europeans explored the world during the Age of Exploration , they colonized
areas for a number of reasons. One reason was to spread Christianity. The Spaniards
believed it was their God given duty to convert people to Christianity. A second
reason was to acquire wealth through trade and exploitation of other countries peoples
and natural resources. Colonizing and acquiring the land in Latin America also led to
an increase in geopolitical power over other European countries.
The United States took interest in Latin America for economic and political reasons.
The banana appears to be a distinct reason as to why the United States went over to
Latin America according to Dan Koepple s
5. The Case Buck Versus Bell
Many people have heard of the case Buck versus Bell. This was a land mark
supreme court case in 1927. This case basis is eugenics, which is the science of
improving a human population by controlled breeding. Most people today would
disagree with this on premise alone. In the case Buck versus Bell the decision
being heard was can doctors sterilize patients that were feeble minded or have
epilepsy. As Carrie s story unfolds you will see not only is feeble minded a broad
term She was wronged not only on the merits of the case, but in the process of justice.
Carrie Buck was placed in a home called Virginia Colony for Epileptics and
Feebleminded alongside her mother. Now at the time there were other states
practicing eugenics. This was the first case to challenge Virginia s 1924 ruling
allowing it. Carrie and her mom were labeled feeble minded and promiscuous. They
would later go on to label Carrie daughter Vivian feeble minded also.
Let us take a step back. Carrie was born in Charlottesville Virginia. Her birth took
place on July 2, 1906. Her father Frank W. Buck passed away when she was only a
young girl. Her mother was committed, when Carrie was still young. The mother
was committed for feeble mindedness. This was not a medical decision, but the
doctor s belief that Carrie was an illegitimate child. Carrie was placed into foster care
at the age of three.
In other words, Carrie had a rough childhood. She was not an illegitimate child which
can be proven by her parents

my opinion, sports skills are not important than the willingness to doing sport and
sports are not just the athlete. Doing sports doesn t mean that people should go to
the gym, but they still can doing exercise without going to gym. Activities such as
walking and running are cheap and more accessible. Cheaper than other activities

7. Friedel-Crafts Acylation Lab Report
The Friedel Crafts acylation reaction is an important and valuable electrophilic
aromatic substitution reaction. First introduced in 1912 by Charles Friedel and
James M. Crafts, this reaction allows large multi step reactions to take place, and
creates numerous types of products.1 Today, Friedel Crafts reactions are among the
most used electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions. In the electrophilic aromatic
substitution class of reactions, functional groupsare substituted onto an aromatic
ring.2 Products such as ketones, hydrocarbons and phenols, phenol ethers, and keto
acids can be produced by electrophilic aromatic substitution.1 These products can
then undergo other reactions, allowing for the creation of many types of products.
The products acquired can be used for a range of purposes, such as pharmaceuticals,
pesticides, dyes, etcetera.3 In particular, Friedel Crafts acylation reactions result in a
product containing a ketone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The functional group added during a Friedel Crafts acylation reaction, deactivates the
ring, resulting in a mono substituted ring rather that a poly substituted ring, which is
produced from a Friedel Crafts alkylation reaction.4 The mono substituted product is
then further reduced to get an alkyl substituted ring instead of yielding a product
containing a ketone. To obtain the ketone product, an acyl group is added to an
aromatic ring. However, for this reaction to take place, no electron withdrawing
groups can be present on the aromatic ring, and an acyl halide must be used to obtain
the acyl cation.5 These limitations are met, in the Friedel Crafts acylation reaction of
anisole with acetyl

9. The Relationship Between Risk And Expected Returns
The Relationship Between Risk and Expected Returns
According to investment glossaries, a risk is a future probability of loss inherent in
any investment (Investopedia Financial Dictionary, 2016). To this day, the positive
correlation between risk and return continues to be the cornerstone of financial
theory. The basic capital asset pricing model (CAPM) formula is built on this
relationship. CAPM provides the required return based on the level of systematic risk
of an investment. The risk associated with an investment is taken to lie along a
scale. On the low risk end of the scale, there are low yielding government bonds and
securities. At the middle of the spectrum are medium performing investments such as
high yielding loan notes, and rental property. At the far end of the scale high risk are
futures, options, and equity investments. However, the positive relationship between
risk and return does not guarantee that taking a greater risk will result in higher
returns. Rather, a higher risk may lead to the loss of a greater amount of capital. This
paper seeks to examine the risk and return relationship and how investors can
determine the optimal trade off.
The risk return principle. It is a principle that the potential returns on investment rise
with the increase in risk. According to this principle, low levels of uncertainty like
in the case of government bonds have low potential returns. For instance, a US five
year Treasury bond yields a return of 1.125
10. Invisibility In Claudia Rankine s American Lyric
In the American Lyric, Citizen, Claudia Rankine demonstrates the struggles one faces
with invisibility through emotional, physical, and social interactions. Being
emotionally invisible is strongly present while a woman is fighting to make herself
and her son noticed. The woman in the subway is not harming anyone. As she
Innocently waits for the train to come with her son, a man knocked over her son in
the subway (17). Fortunately, the son was okay, however, the audacity to push the
innocent boy into the tracks is what matters. When the man pushes the son into the
tracks, it shows that he is committing a hate crime. Out of all the families waiting for
the train, he deliberately chooses to throw the innocent black boy. Pushing the black
boy reflects on the boy losing his innocence about what the future holds for him.
Since the boy s feet were not brushed off by the person that has never seen him (17).

11. Music And Its Effects On Children
Parents also serve as a blockade when it comes to the subject of music. Parents are
very cautious and get very defensive of what their children listen to. Parents block
children from hearing the truth or prevent their child from seeing how an artist
expresses themselves, because of a few raunchy lyrics and profanity? I often listen to
music on my iPhone, but since Apple launched its Apple Music project, my music
only plays in the edited or clean version, which is very annoying. I am a huge Future
fan and on his recent album, Dirty Sprite 2, it s the cursewords that really build the
song. The profanity really makes the album sizzle and paints the image of and
blends the album together so perfectly. Music is a form or art, who are you to... Show

and therefore, it may suck or not sound good to them. They are often lacking the
capability to realize that artist create for themselves and often use music to fuel
their emotions and energy. It is often taken for granted and we just do not
appreciate what the artist does. We typecast music and allow genres to dictate us,
so if we hear something of a different genre, we may not like it and judge the whole
genre because of that one song. One song or sound does not represent a whole
genre of music and will not determine if you will or will not a single song of that
genre. We live in a generation, a society or in other and more relative words, a
matrix where we are comfortable with the same sound and same thing over and
over. We do not want anything to change about the things we like and do, because
that s what we feel in love with. As a collective, we are often stuck in our ways and
become base. People are afraid to try new things and step out their comfort zone.
People often do not try to find comfort in other things or something new and we stick

12. Why Did General Grant s Use Of Electric Telegraphs
In order for General Grant to command Union forces from City Point, he created a
highly efficient communication network. The communication system relied
extensively on the use of the electric telegraph. An electric telegraph is a telegraph
in which an operator at one station causes words or signs to be made at another
station by means of a current of electricity, generated by a battery and transmitted
over a wire. Grant s extensive communication system enabled him to be able to
effectively command Union forces over the entire country and gave him a direct line
of contact with President Lincoln. Grant received daily reports from four separate
armies, numbering a quarter of a million men, and replied with daily directions for
their operations

16. Reaction Paper On Burnout
In 1974, Freudenberger initially explored burnout in helping professions and
concluded that it was a phenomenon resulting from workers inability to handle
increasing pressure to succeed professionally. Later the concept of burnout was
defined by Cherniss [3] as a response to chronic difficulty in dealing with stress.
Maslach and Jackson [21] view burnoutas a multidimensional construct with three
distinct dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal
accomplishment.
Maslach and Leiter [19] define emotional exhaustion as a lack of energy and a
feeling that one s emotional resources are used up. Depersonalization is a negative,
callous, or excessively detached response to other people (often the recipients of one

and depression symptoms were strong. Hill, Hall, Appleton and Kozub [31] studied
perfectionism and burnout in junior elite soccer players and found that socially

perfectionism had a direct negative association with burnout. Also, Comerchero [28]
investigated gender, tenure status, teacher efficacy, perfectionism, and teacher
burnout. Based on the result of her study higher levels of adaptive perfectionism were
positively related to personal accomplishment scores and there were significant
negative associations between adaptive perfectionism and depersonalization. Also, it
was mentioned that higher maladaptive perfectionism levels were positively
associated with higher emotional exhaustion scores and were negatively associated
with personal accomplishment
17. The Relationship Between Warm Colors and Positive Mood
This research is important because every day we have to make choices that include
choosing a color when for example we decide what shade of makeup to use, what
color of clothes to buy or decide what color to paint a wall. Even it has been proved
that people often associate their mood with a specific color. Some frequently
responses when a person is feeling sad is to describe it as feeling blue or when a
person fall in love is common to hear that now this person view the world through
rose colored glasses. Other frequently expressions are to describe a person s jealousy
as to be greenwith envy, or describe a child s innocence as to be pure as the snow .
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of color with mood using a... Show

Author David Simmons studied color effects more generally in his book, Color and
emotion: New directions in color studies. Simmons conducted a lot of experiments
trying to prove that color can enhance positive moods. In one of his experiments he
asked 56 undergraduate psychology students to paint a white wall with a color that
made them to feel positive. The results indicated that yellow, orange and red were
picked as the most positive color of the 9 color samples in total.
Jacob and Suess (1975) disagree with the general theory that warm colors are more
appealing and tend to enhance positive mood. They found that participants shown
a more positive mood towards cool colors rather than warm colors. In his article,
Effects of four psychological primary colors on anxiety state; Perceptual and motor
skills, states that previous studies may have overlooked the effects of colors on
standard pencil and paper measures of anxiety. He investigated the effects of
primary colors such as: red, yellow, blue and green and the level of anxiety of the
participants. The researcher administered the state scale of the State Trait Anxiety
Inventory to 40 participants. After reviewing the results he found that colors red and
yellow were associated with high levels of anxiety by the participants. On the other
hand, color green was described as calming and associated with low levels of anxiety
by the participants.
18. Weapons Are An Important Aspect Of Warfare
Weapons are an important aspect of warfare. They help determine how the war will
go. If one side as better and more technologically advanced weapons, they have an
advantage over their opponents. Nations struggle to create innovated weapons or
improve old upon ones. Not every advancement is appreciated and respected. An
example of this type of weapon is the chemical weapons, gas or chemical warfare.
Chemical warfare is not an accepted or approved weapon, but one that has been
banned from use during war. Chemical weapons have been prohibited from warfare
before the Great War due to the effect it has on the soldiers and reactions from the
civilians and soldiers. Why after World War I
are they universally prohibited?

It was also this destruction and death that caused nations to later agree to the
prohibition of chemical weapons and warfare. Germany used chemicals as a
weapon usually in the form of poisonous gas as it was a more technologically
advanced weapon then their enemies had. When the Germans first used this weapon
it was met with little resistance, therefore, proving that with more advanced
weapons, soldiers could accomplish their missions and goals both more accurately
and faster or simply making their mission more attainable. While using this weapon,
the Germans were not stopped, simply as there was no one to stop them from
taking the trenches as their enemies lay dead on the ground in what resembles a
gruesome death. During the Second Battle of Ypres, the Germans used chemical
weapons for the first time and after a half hour; everything was dead with only the
Germans to claim the French trench. This weapon made it possible for the Germans
to capture trenches and accomplish their missions. During the war, the reactions to
chemical warfare were increasingly negative from both soldiers and civilians. The
negative reactions and responses to chemical weapons are reasonable and
understandable. Soldiers held negative views on chemical warfare as they had to
personally deal with the attacks, while the civilians and citizens at home also had
difficulty responding to chemical warfare with anything but a negative response. The
citizens at home had
19. Sacrifice In The Odyssey
Homer might just be the greatest narrative author to have ever put ink on paper,
but what is truly undeniable is how much depth is put into his characters,
especially his heroes. The heroes of the Iliad and Odyssey are larger than life and
they embody what it means to be a Greek Hero. We would expect these heroes to be
everything great about man and not suffer any of the same things that the other
mortals experience. But Homer s heroes cry and they don t just cry, they weep. They
weep for loved ones, cry for the brutality of fate, and the lament the loss of that most
important thing: honor. In book one of the Iliadwe find Achilleus in a desperate
situation:
He led forth from the hut Briseis of the fair cheeks and gave her to be taken away; .
. . But Achilleus weeping went and sat in sorrow apart from his companions beside
the beach of the gray sea looking out on the infinite water.
Many times stretching forth his hands he called on his mother:
Since, my mother, you bore me to be a man with a short life,
Therefore Zeus of the loud thunder on Olympos should grant me
Honor at least. But now he has given me not even a little.
Now the son of Atreus, powerful Agamemnon,
Has dishonored me, since he has taken away my prize and keeps it. 1

not the hero we are meant to idealize. But if one pushes past the surface we see that
Homer is attempting to teach us something cosmic about tears, a ... Show more

The gentleman s game What comes to your mind when I say the world s hardest
sport? I m sure many of you start picturing football, baseball, maybe even hockey,
but how many of you would ever consider golf to be the hardest sport? Unlike the
three sports mentioned above in golf you don t have any teammates to help you out
if you re have a bad game. In golfyou have to be good at all aspects of the game in
order to be successful unlike in football, baseball, and hockey where you can still
be successful by only mastering one position. In football every football field
measures the same size, in baseball the pitcher is always the same distance away
from the batter, and hockey rinks are all the same size every time, however in golf
ever course is different and you don t get a home field advantage like you do in other
sports you have to be prepared for everything. This is why I consider golf to be the
world s hardest sport because there are no teammates it s just up to you and your
caddy, you have to be great at every aspect of the game if you want to be successful
on the PGA tour, and finally ever course is different and you have to be able to make
adjustments from course to course in order to succeed. I believe I am able to
make this claim because I have an abundance of experience from playing nearly
every sport in my childhood. I earned three varsity letters in high school and
competed at a varsity level for four years in golf, lacrosse, and cross country. Out of

dark side of human nature: ethnocentrism the belief that an individual s ethnic group
is superior. People display ethnocentrism through discrimination, racism, racial
profiling, and etc. They hold prejudices against other groups who share different
cultural values and morals, ultimately leading to discrimination and a desire for
power. Ethnocentrism is a serious problem in society because these prejudices lead to
violence, hurting individuals both physically and mentally. Anna Steers stated that an
original play should be developed in response to our nation s dire circumstances. Her
production successfully provides a clear response to the issues of racial profiling,
discrimination, and segregation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the issues addressed is racial profiling by authorities. The scene begins with
a cop pulling over a man passing by. The cop aggressively questions the man,
assuming that he is hiding something. He violently apprehends the man, who resists,
and shoots him. The cop discovers that the man is hiding a necklace box for his
daughter. The cop committed racial profiling by using his authority to target the man
based on his race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. The practice of racial
profiling has become a huge issue in society, especially during the era of technology
where most of the population uses news media and social networks for updates. There
are videos of policemen using violence against minorities and abusing their authority.
The scene particularly responds to the extreme cases where the authorities kill the

Marketing Concept The marketing concept can be defined as the idea that an
organization should strive to satisfy the needs of customers, while also trying to

what is called the marketing environment. Businesses have to take into account their

segmenting customer groups. The psychographic segment variables include people
with similar personalities, values, and lifestyles. The last of the segmentation bases of
the U.S. consumer markets would be behavioral segments. These are actions a person
takes in purchasing and using products and services. Some of these segment variables
include outlet type, direct, product features, usage rate, user status and awareness

group products to be sold into categories. One can then develop a market product grid

Drug Laws of The Netherlands
Is a Permissive Legal System Better than a Restrictive One in the Case of Drugs?
Introduction
The Netherlands is one of the most highly developed countries in the world. It is an
international, well integrated country with policies that are among the world s most
liberal. In fact, The Netherlands has perhaps the most liberal view on drug use than
any other country and has even gone to the extreme of extraordinarily relaxing its
laws regarding soft drugs.
However, a common misconception about drugs in the Netherlands is that people
believe they have been legalized there. Rather, cannabis and its by products,
marijuana and hashish, have merely been decriminalized. This means that the sale

Dutch drug policy is guided by the principle of what is best described as quot;harm
reduction quot; (Bransten, para. 8). This means that drugs are perceived as a public
health issue and the goal should be to minimize the harm those drugs do to
individuals and to society not to criminally punish soft drug users.
With respect to users of hard drugs, they are monitored and encouraged to turn to the
public health system for treatment, but unless they commit other crimes, they are not
prosecuted in The Netherlands (Bransten, para. 7).
Consequently, the Dutch spend their time and money on prevention and education
instead of criminal prosecution (Bransten, para. 8). This has allowed the Dutch
authorities to concentrate their efforts policing activities elsewhere. In fact, since the
policy was implemented, the Dutch police have concentrated on pursuing drug
traffickers, drug laboratories, and all other crime related activities.
Therefore, would it be fair to say that the decriminalization of soft drugs been a
success in The Netherlands? Several decades have passed since soft drugs were
decriminalized and it is still somewhat difficult to make a final determination of its
success .
The results (positive or negative) of decriminalizing drugs and instituting a
permissive legal system with respect to drugs, are disputed and somewhat unclear.

Crime Prevention through Technological Advances.
According to Nation Master, in the year 2002 the United States was one of the top
3 countries with the highest number of crimes in the world; total amount of 11.8
million crime cases. In light of this discovery the law enforcement agency has put in
more effort to prevent crimes through various ways especially the use of technology.
For example, according to the United States Department of Justice, in 2002
authorities in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Colorado used DNA evidence to link
and solve a series of murder and rape crimes committed by the same individual.
We can depend on technology to benefit us in many ways, one being an effective
crime fighting tool. Technological advances are being used to fight crimes by
deterring criminals and also catching them after the act. These technological advances
range from fingerprints to prints of retinal patter to voiceprints. Has technology
helped in crime prevention? Has technology helped in catching criminals? If these
criminals cannot act again, is the crime rate less?

Introduction
Since the introduction of bus service tendering in London in the mid 1980s, there
has been, according to London Transport Buses (1999), a dramatic improvement in
both the quality of bus services provided and the value for money achieved.
However, the rules of the game have changed considerably over time. Whereas in
the first instance a gross cost regime was used to let just a part of the network to
public sector operators, in recent years the whole of the network has been let in ...

The last of these contracts expired earlier this year. To complete the process, the
Tendered Bus Division started to let competitive net cost contracts alongside
competitive gross cost contracts, the aim being to use the type of contract in any
particular case which delivered the best value for money and incentivised operators
to improve service quality. As of June 1999, only gross cost contracts have been
offered.
Impacts of tendering
London Transport Buses (1999) claims a dramatic improvement in both the quality
of bus services provided and the value for money achieved. Other authors have
assessed these claims: White (2000), White and Tough (1995), Kennedy (1995b).
Salient features include: cost reductions of 47% per bus mile between 1985/6 and
1998/9 (White, 2000); a reduction in the number of bids per contract from 7 in
early 1995 to 3 in late 1996 (ibid.); cheaper costs to the tendering authority of about
10% per bus mile for gross contracts rather than net (White and Tough, 1995); and
lower bid prices as the number of bids exceeds four (Kennedy, 1995b).
PART B: PRINCIUPLES OF BUS TENDERING
We mean by tendering the allocation [by government agency] of a protected or
exclusive right to exploit or carry out an activity (Baldwin and Cave, 1999) such that
consumers or the public gain an advantage for example, an efficiently produced and

People all over America will be celebrating our veterans for their service on
November 11th. There will be numerous celebrations and thanks for the people
who fought for our freedom, but often we forget what it was like coming home
from a war. Coming back from the war and reassimilating into society can often
times be just as challenging as fighting the war itself. There are so many factors that
affect one s homecoming experience, such as the supportiveness of the community
or the trauma caused by the war. Everybody is different which means everybody s
experiences are going to differ. Leaving your home is definitely a difficult feat, and
coming back is possibly even harder for some veterans. In an interview with Vietnam
war veteran, Karl Marlantes, some important points are brought up about the
psychological effects war has on a veteran, but also some of the external factors
that affect someone s ability to cope with their actions. He tell s in his own words
what it s like to come home from war and try to repress all of your guilt and grief.
He describes the guilt as a wound of the soul and makes a point of how soldiers
experience mental health issues as well as physical wounds. To help make this
homecoming for veterans better, we should create a place for veterans to go to talk
about what happened so they can release their grief and move on, instead of letting it
sit untouched until it comes to conscience and makes life a nightmare. Another goal

ordinary world to reach a specific goal. Our hero s call begins when Nemo s new

After years of lessons, Handel attended Halle University. Simultaneous to his father

musical world, he is considered to this day as one of the best organists of all time.
Over the course of his life, George Frideric Handel participated in over 50 operas,
dramatic oratorios, and orchestras.
The myriad of instruments used during the Baroque period are divided into four
groups: brass, keyboards, strings, and winds. Included in the brass group are
trumpets, horns, and sackbuts. The trumpet, originally made of bamboo or wood,
was replaced by a shorter version in 1300 and later fashioned into the shape of an S
in 1400. Continuing to evolve rapidly, the trumpet became formed, coiled into an
elongated loop in 1500 and could be constructed in both brass and silver. In 1820,
valves were added along the body of the trumpet, which changed the pitch of the
music it played. Orchestral, or French horns, were first developed in 1650 in France
and in the 1700s, the French hunting horn entered the orchestra. Like the trumpet,
valves were added to the horn in the early 18th century.
Although they are not the best known group of instruments, keyboards play a
prominent role in the orchestra. The keyboard group includes organs and
harpsichords. The organ is formulated of flue pipes, an air supply, and keys. Flue
pipes are made of either metal or wood, and act like a whistle for the organ. The air

I found it interesting that DeVore does not give a salary amount for the college

the college graduate made only $30,000 a year with a degree in arts, or what if she
made $100,000 a year with a degree in business? Thus, we have no way of knowing
how unfair this situation really is to the mother who graduated college. I think
DeVore should have also discussed how many hours the other woman works at her
minimum wage job, for the sake of a complete and logical argument. The ambiguity
in the amount of hours she works, reminds me of a Humans of New York post I read,
where a single mom of three worked ninety five hours a week at three different jobs,
so that two of her children could go to Yale and the third child could attend Colombia.
This post highlights how the author does not consider the many external factors that
exist beyond his hypothetical scenario. I think DeVore needs more substance in his
hypothetical situation to show how the government wrongs the college graduate and
to emphasize the importance of a limited government.
His next point regarding government tax incentives and how they can limit the free
market has more validity. Tax breaks are the government s way of rewarding
corporations who follow

Dickens writes that anyone who feels oppressed will seek out revenge: Sow the
same seed of rapacious licence and oppression over again, and it will certainly

warn his audience the effects of vengeance by illustrating the crowd s actions in a
gruesome manner and what can happen because of it. Madame Defarge is brought
to her end by her own gun, and reflects how suffering will return to the person who
caused it. Her unremitting need for vengeance embodies the attitudes of those

hateful than the aristocratic class she intended to seek vengeance from. In
contrast, Dumas glorifies Edmond s intentions as an order from God when
Edward declares to himself: ...may the God of vengeance now yield me His place

development they have become a major influence on anything business related. The
importance of ethics was chosen to give more of an in depth look at not only basic
benefits that business ethics bring about, but some less known benefits as well.
Business ethicsadd great morale to the corporation and its culture, allowing the
organization to use this as a tool for a multitude of organizational affairs. While there
are some that oppose the use of business ethicsin today s business world, the benefits
outweigh the opposition s points. Comparing and contrasting the benefits and the
opposition s invalid arguments, it can be plainly seen why business ethics should be
implemented and are a core aspect of any business that is looking to be successful in
the modern world.
Maintaining a piece of today s ever changing market is becoming increasingly
difficult. The needs of the consumer fluctuate drastically, competition is at an all time
high, and the number of competitors is increasing daily. Considering all of these
factors, it is feasible to see why a cutthroat mentality is needed and sometimes used
for business. However, this cutthroat mentality is the reason why organizations are no

Bernard Madoff, how are consumers and the public supposed to fully give their trust

For as long as any of us can really remember, paper based medical records have been
the way to go. Sadly if changes had to be made to the files then the files would need
to be physically taken out of storage and then returned after. More times than not
patients will have more than one health care provider and in this case, the patient files
are not necessarily being successfully shared among them due to the fact that the files
are tangible. Fortunately the implementation of Electronic Medical Record(EMR)
system is the answer to increasing efficiency and reducing the need for storage.
The EMR allows the medical records to be retrieved and accessed by any of the
health care professionals that need the information to help a patient. Implementing
an EMR would have improved diagnosis and treatments, significantly reduce errors
found within personal health records, and improve the speed of care and decision
making responses from assigned medical professionals. As with everything there are
always cons as well as the pros. The unfortunate cons of an EMR are the
technological side. It may be difficult to teach all of the people who will be using it
how to use the EMR and more importantly getting a majority of people on board with
it. After weighing out the pros and cons, there are series of steps that are conducted
through stages otherwise known as phases. EMR implementation require making sure
that the organization is ready for the commitment, making an outline, creating a

metaphors in our daily lives and we have become so accustomed to them that we

imperfect. They fail to completely describe the events and never tell the whole truth.
Sometimes metaphors make dreary situations seem brighter, or they make us feel

This is the case for many scientific processes such as drawing molecules and
describing natural phenomena (Reeves 27). Metaphors can sometimes become
theories as well. According to Reeves, scientific theories created by scientists often
start as metaphors that were chose to help explain their ideas. A very famous
example of a model beginning as a metaphor is the plum pudding metaphor (Reeves
29). The plum pudding metaphor was proposed by J.J. Thomson and it helped
explain the distribution of negative and positive charges in an atom to those who
had no background in science (Reeves 29). Obviously, the distribution of atoms is
not really plum pudding, but the common person knew what it was so it was a good
metaphor to use to describe such a complex process. This is an example of scientists
using a metaphor to explain a complex process to non scientists. It helped the
common person understand the process by relating it to something they knew about.
In science, it is almost impossible to talk about it without the use of metaphors.
However, the use of metaphors both limits and helps us understand our world. Using
the example of the plum pudding metaphor, the metaphor limits us because it is not
entirely true, but it helps us better understand what is going on in the
41. The Prayer Service Of Fifty Participants
Not too long ago, a Catholic lay minister, John, approached me to discuss a concern
he has with his parish s lay evangelization ministry. In addition to their parish s
weekly prayer service of fifty participants, this ministry organizes and facilitates a
quarterly Catholic Evangelization Congress for their deanery that gathers between
three to five hundred people. Consequently, some lay ministers have given greater
importance to the major quarterly religious services they organize for their deanery
than to their parish s weekly prayer service, going to tremendous lengths to bring
renowned speakers that would draw the greatest number of participants. This is
frustrating to John because these lay ministers have expressed minimal interest in
discovering how to engage many of these participants more effectively.
Unfortunately, many of them do not attend the prayer services and seldom attend the
Sunday Mass as well unless a popular Catholic (ordained) minister is participating.
John wonders if the ministry is providing a disservice by ignoring this issue.
At the heart of John s concern is the question of who or what do people follow and
how. It is an inquiry that relates to a biblical passage found in one of the Gospels. As
Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs
post. He said to him, Follow me. And he got up and followed him. (Mt 9:9) Prior to
meeting Jesus, Matthew, also known as Levi, followed the path of fortune. As a tax
collector,
42. Figurative Language In The Secret Lion By Alberto Rios
The text that will be analyzed is a short story called The Secret Lion by Alberto
Rios. This text is jam packed full of figurative language such as symbolism and
personification. The story is a memory from the author himself about when he was
growing up as a kid in the border town of Nogales, Arizona. He has just reached
junior high and he is in the early stages of becoming an adult. He does not like the
fact that he is growing up and he wants to stay as a kid. Through the use of
symbolism, the author takes the reader on a magical journey through their childhood
using the arroyo, the grinding ball, and the golf course. The most prominent use of
figurative language in the story is the author s use of symbolism. There are multiple
items throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heaven is the golf course behind the boys house. The boys always saw the
green hills back there and had always wondered what it truly was. Their mother
had told them to never go over there but one day they finally convinced her to let
them venture over. The boys packed themselves a lunch, which included a
sandwich and a Coke, and they headed over to the green hills. Upon arrival, the
boys were shocked at what they saw. At the time, the boys had not known what a
golf course was so finding a green golf course in the middle of a desert was quite
astounding for them. The boys headed towards the green of a hole and decided to
have their lunch there. The boys used the hole itself as a cup holder for their Coke;
thinking that that was what it was meant for. After a bit of relaxing and eating, a
couple of men with bags of clubs around their backs approached the boys. They
yelled at them to move so they could hit their ball into the hole; the hole the boys
thought was a cup holder. The boys then fled, later figuring out that they were on a
golf course. The golf course is the boys childhood. The men that shooed the boys off
represents adulthood. The adults are telling the boys to forget their childhood and
move on to adulthood. Jim O Loughlin in The Facts On File Companion to American
Poetry, vol. 2 says, In much of his work, RГos explores truths of experience that do
not conform to rational explanation. (116). Jim is very correct in this statement.
Alberto Rios uses very out of the ordinary techniques to convey his message. In this
story, it would be Rios using odd objects to convey himself and a friend growing up.
Irena Praitis in Encyclopedia of Hispanic American Literature says, The world RГos
creates in his books is a world characterized by magical realism. (81). Most would
agree with Irena in this statement because Rios loves to use magical realism in his
short stories. Magical realism is a
