Israelites Journey
During the historical thirteenth and fourteenth centuries in Egypt, for the Israelites was God divine

Ethnic Conflict In The Rwanda Genocide
The Rwanda genocide began in 1994 when an airplane that was carrying the presidents of Rwanda
and Burundi crashed, which triggered an organized campaign of violence against the Tutsi
minorities across the country that was supported by the military and government. Even ordinary
citizens were incited by local officials and the Hutucontrolled government to take up arms against
them. The Rwandan genocidecan be classified as an ethnic conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi, but
research has failed to find significant ethnic differences between the two groups. The one thing that
can be said to be different is there physical appearance. The exact origins of the Hutus and Tutsis
were unknown, because both groups shared the same language (Kinyarwanda) territory, some
cultural practices, they intermarried and acknowledged the same king. Hence the Hutu and the
Tutsi could not be described correctly as two different ethnic groups.
In Rwanda, about 85 percent of its population was Hutu and the rest was Tutsi, not including one
small percentage of another group. The Hutu was said to have travelled up from the south perhaps
some two thousand years ago and that the Tutsi were possibly a southern Ethiopian tribe who
immigrated into Rwanda around the fifteenth century or several centuries before this. Some of
these early accounts support the theory of a peaceful migration with Tutsi winning the Hutu over
through a complex cattle relationship (Wielenga, 2011). The majority of Rwandans are

Enhancing Athletic Performance While Reducing Injuries Essay
Enhancing Athletic Performance While Reducing Injuries In hockey you need both general fitness
and specific fitness. You need good strength, stamina, speed, agility, balance, co ordination, fast
reactions and many more. All these can help every individual become better at their sport and have
better health. These fitness needs can also prevent many injuriesas you are less agile to your sport.
Fitness levels can also be affected by many things such as illness, weight, alcohol and drugs, dieting
and psychological factors.

The same injuries can occur in many different sports in different situations but there can be more
common injuries in each individual sport such as legs in football, shoulder or arm in javelin and
hands or ankles in netball etc. Environmental injuries are things such as frostbite, hypothermia,
exhaustion and heat stroke. Injuries can also occur due to physiological reasons making the
person become fatigue, have muscle soreness and depletion of energy reserves. Before carrying
out a session in the individual sport, a risk assessment should be preformed as there are others
risk factors that should be identified such as slippery surfaces, equipment left out, food or drink
that may be tipped in the training area. You can outline whether or not the area is suitable for that
sport or the right age group and if not, how the safety issues could be improved. You also have to
take into consideration the age of the sportsperson as already mentioned.
In hockey, it is important that the right equipment and footwear is worn to prevent injuries and to
have a pre game warm up and stretching. Overall, a hockey team needs to wear gum shields to
protect their mouth and teeth from hockey balls and sticks, shin guards to protect their legs from
sticks also, body protection such genital protectors, gloves to protect hand and knuckles from sticks,

Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles Essay
Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles
In A Scandal in Bohemia, by Arthur Conan Doyle, society places women at an inferior level
pushing them to the background therefore never allowing us, the reader, to know them, except for
Irene Adler who shows the gender shift of the time period by becoming the main character in
Sherlock Holmes investigation and the story. A Scandal in Bohemia speaks about the famous
detective Sherlock Holmes and his adventure in retrieving a damaging photograph for a king from
his ex mistress. In the society Watson describes, the role of women is of little to no importance
except for emphasis that focused on the Kings mistress Irene Adler.
In this society, women were the nurtures and the protectors of the children ... Show more content on

Rather than surrendering to the trickery of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler outsmarts him using his
own tricks and makes her escape right under his nose. The narrowly defined roles of women were
evident for the only means to discuss women in this story is through their relations with men. No
woman, not even Irene Adler, has her own story. After all in the end, even Irene Adler runs away
with a man. Out of the five female characters mentioned or referred to in this story, only one is
given a name and a personality. This lack of female representation shows how dominant males
were in the society of the story and in the society of the real world.
Irene Adler exemplified the massive shifts in gender roles that were occurring during this time in
many ways other than becoming the main character in the story along with being feared of
having too much power by the men. Throughout the story there were many hidden examples of
how Irene Adler was the main character of how the roles of gender were changing drastically in
the period of this story. Adler is the character of changing gender roles which is revealed through
a division of female physiology and male psychology. The king remarks that she had the face of
the most beautiful women and the mind of the most resolute men . She also freely crosses gender
barriers by wearing men s clothing, confessing that male costume is nothing new to me. I often take
advantage of the freedom which it gives. Adler s active

1932 Social Melodrama I Was Born But Analysis
In Yasijuro Ozu s 1932 social melodrama, I Was Born But..., it s use of mise en scene works
well to describe the characters lives at home, as well as the tone of an economically depressed
Japan. As a slice of life movie, one scene stands out between separating Yoshi, the father, and his
co workers. While the camera pans across an office of yawning workers, Yoshi is patiently
waiting at his desk for something, like being called into his boss office. During his discussion
with Mr. Iwasaki, his co workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the
suburbs. Following this conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office
employees busy at their desk, before abruptly cutting to the children in schooldoing the same thing.
In this scene Ozu does a very good job of showing the similarities between the children and the
adults that work every day they do. While the adults are struggling in... Show more content on

Yoshi s wife stays at home as a housewife, while his children go to school for an education. Because
the movie wants to emphasize its relatability to the public at the time, it is not very dramatic and
has very simple camera angle and cuts. Most people have similar looks, children all in school
wear uniforms, and the men wear suits and ties. Only three certain characters have distinct
works, the teacher, who is very clean cut and put together much better than the salarymen. And
Mr. Iwasaki, who is covered in film and smoking a cigar, while his employees outside are smoking
on their own rolled cigarettes. Ozu had made the appearance of Mr. Iwasaki something less
professional because he was intended to be a relatable character, like Yoshi, but to still separate
them monetarily. Mr. Iwasaki is a professional man in a position of power, he can afford to have a
film hobby, smoke cigars, and to be able to have his own driver and

Personal Narrative About Yosemite
When my dad first talked to me about Yosemite, he described it as the most epic place on earth. I
thought it would be pretty, but I never predicted how unreal it would actually be. My experience
there was one I can never fully put into words. It was liberating, refreshing, and calming. I felt
like a light inside of me had been lit again. When I was staring out at the valley, all my problems
seemed to drift away. Standing at the top of Glacier Point, I take in a panoramic view of my
surroundings. Huge bundles of tourists walk around, taking photos and gasping at the
breathtaking view. I stand with my sister, 25 lb backpacking backpacks sit heavily like a bag of
rocks on our backs as we chew our green apple sour gum. My dad leads us down... Show more

As we get closer to the floor of the valley, I get a better look at illilouette falls. The falls shoot out
of the granite rock and swim down into a small lake. We stop here and dip our feet in the cold,
but refreshing, water. I sit down on the side of the lake and splash a bit. I also take the time to
chew on a piece of spicy jerky and crunchy apple. The food recharges my body, and I feel energy
flood my body. Once back on the trail, I drag myself up a set of switchbacks going up the steep
rock face. The sun is beating down at this point, and I wipe the sweat beading up on my
forehead. I feel as if I have been walking forever on the rocky path, small bushes, and plants
around me when we finally reach the top. The wind blows around me like a tornado, helping me.
As we start the descend down, it feels as if it takes forever until we reach the Nevada Falls. They
are loud and powerful and tumble down until it becomes a stream with huge rocks poking out.
Around the stream are green trees and lots of plants. At the top of the falls, there is a footbridge
which you are able to cross. I myself cross it, peering at the falls, intrigued by how turbulent it is.
Although the falls are fast and tremendous, they have a calming effect on

The Crucible And 12 Angry Men Analysis
The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) share many similarities between them,
particularly in the themes they convey throughout the texts. Justice and prejudice are the main
ideas presented in both texts, however the setting and outcomes differ significantly between the
two, providing a different insight in each text. Both authors, Miller and Lumet, present relevant
issues in the context of the 1950s that both texts were written. The similar social condition of
America that the two texts were published in is a likely factor as to why the two texts have
similar motifs presented throughout. Both The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) are
about justice. The two texts feature important scenes involving a trial where the fate of a
character s life rests in the hands of other people. However, the two texts have very different
final outcomes. In both texts, the main protagonists argue against the majority, despite the
backlash that they receive. Proctor speaks out in The Crucible after learning about the lies that
Abigail and her friends are telling that have caused the imprisonment of members of the town
and are even threatening their lives. Proctor takes a considerable risk by arguing against the
witchcraft, especially in the Puritan society where religion is how the town is governed. His
decision inevitably backfires on him and begins the series of events that lead to his execution. On
the other hand, Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men goes against the majority as he sees the boys poor
upbringing, his less than fair state appointed defence attorney and the jury s almost immediate
unanimous decision to convict him, unjust and believes he deserves a better chance. Unlike
Proctor, Juror #8 speaking out against the other men results in justice for the accused who walks
away with his life. Justice in the two texts is represented considerably differently to each other. In
The Crucible it is evident that Abigail and her friends are in the wrong, condemning people to be
death by lying and accusing the town members of Witchcraft, and therefore Proctor attempting to
expose them for their dishonesty and bring justice to those who had been wrongfully accused,
which included his wife, was a brave and noble thing to

Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay
Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds
Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science.
Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are
descendents of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group
of dinosaurs known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas
based on information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to
determine which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then
we have only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence.
The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include
the largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a
theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight
bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh,
and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought
that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora.
(There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will
refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and
Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000).
The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the
ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile
reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other
archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians
(Anonymous 2000).
The Theropod Hypothesis
The theropod hypothesis puts the entry of birds into the evolutionary arena after the line of descent
had continued from thecodonts to the saurischian dinosaurs and their subsequent split into

Roman Banquets
Many banquets were held all throughout Rome and Greece, and they served as many private and
public functions. They were either given by the state, or by the officials. They usually had civic,
religious, or political purposes, and these banquets allowed the upper class to exchange different
ideas along with display their own wealth. The Greek banquets were sponsored by various
organizations to which their citizens belonged: philosophical societies, religious groups, and
community organizations. The banquets were held time to time for special occasions and holidays.
These banquets helped unify the organizations, and they also reinforced the social order by
reminding each man the place he takes in the large community. Governments occasionally... Show

Often, wealthy individuals gave banquets for anyone who attended or participated in the funeral
of a relative who had died. This practice began as a way of honoring the memory of the deceased.
Over time, the wealthy Romans started to serve banquets, in order to gain favor of others.
Generals, politicians seeking office, and others eager to win popular support also adopted the
custom of giving public banquets. In 27 B.C.E., the emperor Augustus banned public banquets,
except those given by himself. He hoped, in this way, to keep others from winning the affection
and support of the Roman populace. Like the Greeks, the Romans reclined on couches while
banqueting. Although, in the Roman context, respectable women were permitted to join men in
reclining. The females that attended were restricted to entertain, unlike the Greek women. A
dining room typically held three broad couches, each couch seating three individuals, thus
allowing for a total of nine guests. This type of room is commonly described as a triclinium,
meaning a three couch room. The couches weee usually made of wood, but they were sometimes
made of gold and ivory. In a triclinium, the couches were arranged along three walls of the room
in a U shape. At the center of the room, there was a single table that was accessible to all of the
diners. A proper Roman dinner included three courses: the hors d oeuvres (gustatio), the main
course (mensae primae), and the dessert (mensae

The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World
Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than
revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought
about the most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire
regions of the world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only
against political systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also
fought for their beliefs, values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The
Communist Manifesto calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by
the ideas of liberalism and nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of
regional and world revolution helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as
revolutionary waves . What factors are attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an
entrenched political system and possibly risk their life to completely upend the historical order of
things and wipe the slate clean to enable present and future generations to create their own reality?
Until recently, the power of the people and their ability to mobilize and demand had often been
underestimated. Thomas Schelling once reflected that tyrants and subjects are in somewhat
symmetrical positions. Subjects are capable of denying the tyrant most of what it wants through
refusing to collaborate. The

Role Of The Egf Receptor On Lipid
The Role of the EGF Receptor LET 23 on Lipid Biosynthesis in Caenorhabditis elegans
N. R. Contos
Thesis Abstract
The Caenorhabditis elegans LET 23, which is an Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) receptor, controls
multiple developmental pathways. In humans, EGF receptor mutations are implicated in a large
number of cancers due to excess signaling promoting cell growth and cell division. Recent work
has shown that in C. elegans LET 23 may also affect lipid production, specifically that of the
phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. To investigate the role of the LET 23 receptor on lipid
production, I have examined the cellular location of a fluorescent tagged SBP 1 marker under
different conditions within the worm and from these inferred levels of lipid production. I will
discuss my results and their impact on our understanding of EGF signaling and lipid biosynthesis.
Thesis Intro: As a whole the world is becoming more aware of how fats affect the body. Not only
are lipids a key element in cell membranes, they also lead to many issues regarding health. Obesity
is an ever increasing risk factor for many diseases including type II diabetes, cardiac disease, and
some forms of cancer (Kopelman 2000). As obesity transitions from little known problem into a full
blown global epidemic, it is important to understand how lipids are synthesized and regulated
within the body. Lipid synthesis pathways involve a complex interaction between the endocrine
system, tissues, nutrient storage and

Attila The Hun Comparison Essay
Imagine that you are living in Constantinople at the time of Attila the Hun. All you hear about is the
Hunnic Army racing through the Roman Empire, razing towns and villages, slaughtering men,
women and children alike. You are terrified of them, and you are worried of what would happen if
Constantinople were taken. You would feel like many Europeans during World War 2 with the ever

believed that Attila ordered his brother s assassination in 445, so as to assume full control over the
fearsome Hunnic Army. He spent his life attempting to take down the vast Roman Empire, and took
over many of their cities. His biography states, Attila was notorious for his fierce gaze...as if to

Dramatic Irony In Shrek
Salvador Dali once stated to, Have no fear of perfection you ll never reach it. Although a
widespread concept, unattainable perfection seems unrealistic. For instance, society today
inscribes the notion of perfection into its members, from the first days as a newborn to the last
days of life. So, is it healthy to strive for perfection when it in fact doesn t exist? It is healthy for
society to distribute support for this unrealistic perfection? No. Therefore, to balance the unrealistic
goals of perfection set forth through certain branches of society, society has those individuals who
not only mock, but ridicule, through various forms of media, these unrealistic expectations of
perfection. One example of such mockery and ridicule includes... Show more content on

For example, in the beginning of the film, a significant scene in which Princess Fiona gets
rescued by Shrek, an ogre who masks his appearance with a helmet and disguise, is displayed.
Throughout this scene dramatic irony is evident because before Fiona knew Shrek s true identity
and outward appearance, she, guided by her misconceptions, believed that her disguised rescuer
was a typical Prince Charming. However, the audience was acutely aware that this was not the
case. Similar to aspects of our modern society, all her life, Fiona has grown up believing in the
generic happily ever after with the perfect Prince Charming and had never dared to think that other
alternatives exist. Therefore, through developing dramatic irony and using this specific technique
the satire effectively attains its goal when Fiona discovers the true identity of her Prince
Charming. Although Shrek had an unrealistic and improbable situation, the audience clearly
understands the criticism towards society s great desire at perfection based off of fairy tales.
Overall, the film Shrek, provides an outstanding example of contemporary satire that is not only
indirect and horatian but also well known to society. Through what appears a children s film,
Dreamworks has effectively tackled one of society s pressing matters when addressing society s
unrealistic expectations of perfection in accordance to fairy

I chose to write about the song Tuscan Leather. I love the recklessness rhymes and epic changes
of the beat and most importantly the realness Drake portrays. I believe it is one of the greatest

the legend himself Drake. Noah 40 Shebib produced this track featured on Drake s third studio
album Nothing Was the Same that was recorded in Toronto and released in 2013. Tuscan Leather
heavily samples I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston and When Seasons Change (live) by Curtis

holocaust, Elie then wrote his experience in 1960. During the span of the book, Night by Elie
Wiesel, the novel demonstrates that traumatic events can change a person drastically. In the
beginning, Elie lived with his family in Germany, his mother, his father, and his three siblings.
The Germans forced the Jews to hand over their valuables, live in ghettos and finally moving
them to concentration camps, including Elie s family. He was disunited from his mother and
three siblings, but managed to stay with his father. At first when he entered the camp he was
pessimistic and discouraged when he saw the townspeople crying including his father. After, Elie
then learned to take care of himself and his father during tragic events, he stuck to his ambitions
and values which led him to go through many obstacles , despite the limitations, and be free of
the camp of Auschwitz. As he set out Eliezer was an immature and carefree 15 year old who
developed into a responsible young adult. Before Ellie was taken away from Sighet to Auschwitz,
he was an inquisitive adolescent interested in biblical studies. As stated One

Frege And Russell s Principles Of Mathematics
Chapter 2
Devices Russell Takes Resource To :
In the Principles of Mathematics, Russell upheld the thesis that the whole of mathematics is a part
of logic. A formal demonstration of this goal is carried out in the three volumes of Principia
Mathematica. The reduction of mathematics to logic is undertaken in two stages в—Џ To define the
indefinables of mathematics, such as number, in terms of a few logical concepts. (conceptual
reduction) в—Џ To demonstrate that mathematical truths are derivable from a few logical truths,
taken as axioms, within the proposed formal system of logic. (doctrinal reduction) The first step
led Russell, in Principles of Mathematics to undertake a logical analysis of our ordinary language.
The same intention motivated Frege to discuss the nature of the relation of identity as expressed
in various identity statements, particularly with regard to mathematics. This brings to fore the
puzzle of identity, ultimately leading to Frege s theory of meaning that admits a dichotomy of
sense and reference of each and every linguistic expression. Although a realist metaphysics lies at
the back of both Frege s and Russell s logical analysis of language, the theory of meaning that
ensued from Russellian analysis of language is different from that of Frege s. At the time of
Principles of Mathematics, Russell subscribed to a kind of naive or,

Examples Of Equality In The Great Debaters
Equality is the concept in which everybody is defined to be treated the same way. Of course
humans today are still finding a way to get its definition correctly. For decades, equality was not
only about blacks, white, and Asians, but rather, the women and men. In the film, The Great
Debaters, its central claim is equality. The movie is not only a common metaphorical situation all
Africans had to face during 1930s, but also anybody that was different from white, such as Asian
people in general. First and foremost, Asian Americans had immigrated in the United Statesbefore
1965 with a small number of people including Vietnamese, Japanese, Pilipino, and Chinese. One of
the most important groups was Japanese or Japanese American Community in

A Brief Note On The Country Of Togo
In the country of Togo, the people who live there generally live more to the South and along the
major North South highway that connects the coast to the Sahel River (State department, 2005).
They mainly speak French, but the people in the South speak either Ewe or Mina (State
Department, 2005). The ones who speak the Ewe language, moved to Togoby crossing the Niger
River valley during the 12th and 14th centuries (State Department, 2005). In the 15th and 16th
centuries, Togo was known as The Slave Coast because over the next 200 years, European
explorers traveled there in search for slaves (State Department, 2005). I believe all of these
problems can easily be fixed if the U.S. government realized what the Togolese people have been...

The babies that do survive, however will most likely be taken or given away from their parents

Togo because they are being put into child trafficking, they are afraid to go to school, and there
are very few people who are putting up a fight to help them. In Togo, there is an International
Day of Missing Children on Wednesday (5/25) and it is a time to focus attention on the
widespread problem of child trafficking (Togo s missing children, 2005). So far there are over
300,000 children who are missing in Togo due to them being taken from their families or
sometimes given away by them (Togo s missing children, 2005). Child trafficking is a worldwide
human rights violation, but Togo has the greatest number of missing children. The children, who
are not taken from their families, are bullied and abused in school. The teachers rape the girls and
if they get pregnant then they are kicked out of school and forced to go into prostitution. The
boys are beaten by their teachers or other classmates and they are also raped by their teachers.
Projects funded by the Department of Labor s Bureau of International Labor Affairs have helped
about one million children worldwide by helping them get out of child labor or other situations

Biblical View of the Church
Biblical View of the Church
The Church was birthed in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost after receiving the promised Holy
Spirit. The book of Acts describes the beginning as well as the characteristics of the risen Christ
newborn church (Acts 2:42 47). During this time, the Good News of Jesus Christ was proclaimed
initially to Jews in Jerusalem and later spread to Gentiles throughout the Roman Empire. Since
Jews and Gentiles were God s called out ones , their mutual hostility was transformed into a
cooperative unity due to their common salvation provided through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:13
16). All the people that God has called to himself constitute Christ church on earth, which is
surrounded by a big cloud of witnesses (Heb. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Phillips (2008) In today s moral and social turmoil, the church has functioned less
like an anchor giving stability and strength in the midst of a hurricane, and more like a spider
spinning a web on the hands of a clock . (Phillips 2008, p. 240).
In reason number six of Lutzer book Seven Reasons Why You Can Trust The Bible
, he points out to
the fact that The Scriptures are said to be God s breathed (2 Timothy 3:16 NIV). Neither church
councils nor words of Knowledge are said to have that authority . In 2 Timothy 3:16 17 Paul
advices Timothy about the source and authority of Scripture, All Scripture is inspired by God
and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the
man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work . Sola scriptura, the Scriptures
alone , is above traditions or any religious interpretation . The Church of God has been called to
teach accurately the Truth revealed in the Scriptures. Lutzer exposes that, for instance, Catholicism
teaches the primacy of the church over the canon of Scripture; it believes that the official church
is just as infallible as the Bible . According to this point of view the church , which is composed
by popes and councils, determined which books are in the bible (p. 155).
In this modern age the church is functioning in a pluralistic

In Praise of Margins Essay
In the essay In Praise of Margins Ian Fraizer upholds the importance of margins as a higher sort
of unpurpose (Fraizer 45) defined by his time in the woods (44). Fraizer and his friends spent most
of their time in their margins also known as stomping ice in the woods . Fraizer says that marginal
placeand activities are the most important kind (46) because they are where you can try out odd
ideas . Margins could be visiting a park, a friend s house, a dance studio or even a football field,
also doing things such as swinging on a tire, reading, watching movies, dancing or playing a sport.
He argues that margins whether places or activities are valuable because they allow a person to be

As they told themselves a frequent activity was exploring and the reader understand this was
marginal when he mentions they were all easily distracted from their exploration with the sight of
the perfect ice to stomp on. Fraizer explains these distractions to extend the understanding of
margins and that they don t require uninterrupted focus because a person doesn t have something to
accomplish, a marginal activity could result in another marginal activity that could have an
outcome. I consider watching movies a marginal activity for many, people go to the theater to
simply relax and get their mind off of other things. Movies let a person engulf themselves in the
lives of others, fall in love all over again with a romance, laugh away all problems with a comedy,
or feel a rush of adrenaline with an action movie. Films similar to these can create inspiration in
people to find love, to become a director, even to become a writer to create a script that will affect
people as the film affected them. Margins being without any purpose unintentionally result with a
person having a purpose every purpose filled activity we pursue in the woods began as just fooling
around . Through observing his kids actions when they encountered a ditch Fraizer remembers his
personal experiences with margins. To Fraizer and his friends the woods played an important role
in their childhoods, it acted as a place where they could let their imaginations run wild and pursue

Alice in Wonderland Dream Analysis
Dream Analysis of Alice in Wonderland
Who s who and what s real; are we who we claim we are, and is reality really real or is everything
just a fragment of what we think is the universe?
A dream sequence is a technical term used mostly in film and television to set apart a brief
interlude from the main story. (Wikipedia) The deeper lying theme that Carroll wanted to
incorporate into his story of Alice in Wonderlandand Through the Looking Glass, in my opinion,
was not his psychological or sexual desire for Alice Liddell. What he did mean to express by
writing these stories was his innermost desire to escape from reality in which a relationship
between he and Liddell was not allowed to a fantasy land where everything is backwards ... Show

Carroll thus displays himself as two different beings through this theme: a serious mathematician
existentialist writer, and the uncanny photographer who enjoys taking nude pictures of little
girls, which are undoubtedly one exactly same person in the world of two universes; since the
two realities can have differences and yet both very real, Carroll s strange personality is not
actually strange at all. Borges The Circular Ruins did not contain the same meaning as Carroll s
existentialist ideas; Borges idea of dreams was strictly one way, in which when one person
wakes up, the person who is being dreamed will vanish. The Circular Ruins questioned about our
existence as real or just a fragment of someone else s imagination, which is supposedly as real as
the actual reality of whoever is imagining us. Carroll s notion of dreams, then, questions a more
complex essence of existence: of two possibly imagined universes imagining each other. Carroll
expresses himself and his queer personality (or is it queer?) through a seemingly harmless book of
nonsensical fantasies, and also questions his readers, and possibly himself, the meaning of life and
the universe. What I always thought of as the fun story with insane poems, in addition to the
wonderfully brilliant image of Wonderland portrayed by Disney, turns out to be quite an amazing
text for future existentialists and

Applying Criminological Theory to Solve the Murder of...
Applying criminological theory to a suspect s anecdotal evidence can help to distinguish which
suspect could be the possible offender. In this certain case, poor Tigger has been murdered and
there are 3 possible suspects. Merton s Anomie Theory will be applied to suspect number 1:
Winnie The Pooh. Eysenck s Theory will be applied to suspect number 2: Piglet and Social Bond
Theory will be applied to suspect number 3: Eeyore. Merton s Anomie theory works around the
theory that a society or culture inadvertently bring out offending behavior through pressure between
the social norms and the compulsion to achieve them (Thio, 1975). There are 5 aspects of social
structure that associate with this theory (Merton, 1938). Conformity,... Show more content on

Psychoticism relates to certain personality traits such as being impulsive, hostile and aggressive
(Eysenck, 1992). This theory is relatively consistent with the anecdotal evidence about Piglet,
but has more evidence that suggests that Piglet was not the murderer. The anecdotal evidence
states that Piglet has a Generalized Anxiety disorder which ties in with Neuroticism (Cattell and
Scheier 1961). Eysenck and Gudjonsson (1989) had found offenders tend to score high on both
Psychoticism and Neuroticism, (Lykken, 1990) which Piglet does not. He is often described as
a generous animal, which does not tie in with the aggressive, non empathetic, and anti social
nature of Psychoticism (Woody and Claridge 1977). Hirschi s Social Bond Theory is a theory
that instead of being based on why people in society commit offences, it is based on why people
in society do not commit offences (Hirschi, 2002). Hirschi (2002) identifies 4 main social bonds
that can be used to determine the individual s likelihood to become involved in deviant crimes.
These 4 social bonds are attachment, commitment, involvement and belief (Roland 1971).
Altogether these social bonds are what make up the average mindset and behavior of a non
criminal (Gundy Yoder, 2007). So if a person was not to have a strong presence of these bonds, it
would then indicate deviant or offending behavior, and this is the case of Eeyore. The first of these

My First Day Of College
College Freshmen
My first day of college is one of the most important experiences of my life. The semester began
on August 28, 2017. In that morning, I had plenty of time compared to high school. I overslept
because I knew college starts only at 10 a.m. I had an alarm set for 9 a.m. Once I woke, I took a
shower and got ready. HACC is about minimum 8 minutes away from my house. By 9:40 a.m., I
was on my way to the Harrisburg Area Community College. I was full of confidence that I will
reach the campus on time, but the opposite happened. It was my life goal to go to college,
however, there came the complication because I was unaware of the incomprehension and
unfamiliarity of being freshmen in college. As a former new student, I got a little lost before I
arrived at my math class. Once I reached the HACC parking lot, I wasted more than 10 minutes
going around the parking lot looking for an empty spot. While I was driving around, I felt very
frustrating. Besides, I was running late to class. Unfortunately, I did not consider a full parking
lot. Suddenly I remembered, when I came to college orientation I parked my car across a small
bridge where a new parking lot was under construction. I drove there and found out they finished
constructing the new parking lot. There were a lot of empty parking spots. I parked my car and
quickly walked toward Whitaker Hall rushing to find my math class. I had a map of the campus,
which listed all names and locations of specific buildings. In

Protecting Ideas with Copyright
Every process born on an idea. Here is when most organizations have their origins.
Like every production process, music production is protected from the idea to distribution and
sharing. Let s start from songwriting and composition . В№According to the law, the lyrics that are
written by a songwriter are considered literary works and protected by copyright. Copyright is the
right owned by the creative artist to utilize or let use his composition by whoever needs with the
proper established agreements.
Written lyrics represents 1/3 of copyrights ownership as well as musical composition and
arrangement. We could see the backing chord and its progression used in the song as its
arrangement and the melody line as its composition. Only if the artist creates every part of the
song he is intitled to own 100% of song rights. Them are split into three parts if songwriter,
composer and arranger are different persons; Can be even split into several parts if other
organizations are involved. But who and what protects copyright?
It was initially limited to literary works and gradually moved to music and other art works.
However, it was the very first British Statue that set copyright in the UK, according to which
whoever intended to copy, print or share an art work made by someone else, had to obtain author s
consense ; but only in the following North

aboriginal understanding, The Dreamtime is the creation of the world, the time when their
Ancestor Beings existed. These Ancestor Beings awakened the dark and silent world by breaking
through the earth s crust, causing the sun to rise from the ground and shine light on the earth for

Survivor s Guilt In The Seventh Man By Haruki Murakami
Thousands of people are injured or killed every year during natural disasters. Many people may
argue about whether people should feel survivor s guilt or not after going through a life/death
situation. Survivor s guilt is when a person has went through a life/death situation and feel guilty
about surviving. Survivors of a life/deathsituations should not feel survivor s guilt
One reason survivors of life and death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it can
keep you from healing. In the short story The seventh man written by Haruki Murakami in
paragraph 47 it states ....didn t get married another example is in paragraph 48 Didn t go back for
40 years . This shows that feeling guilty about his life/death situations made his life miserable until
he realises it wasn t a big deal. This proves that, in the end survivor s guilt shouldn t affect someone
who went through a life and death situation because it wasn t their fault for wanting to live.
Another reason why survivors of life/death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it
is illogical. This is explained in the anchor text The moral logic of survivor guilt by Nancy Sherman.
In paragraph 5 it states We often take responsibility in a way the goes beyond what we can be held

Personal Responsibility Reflection
Q1: How have your views on business and personal responsibility changed, if at all, over the course
of the semester?
Throughout the course of this semester, my views on business and personal responsibility changed
drastically. While completing the corporate social responsibility assignment as well as reading
about Bill Strickland s story and the Frontline Poisoned Waters video, I learned many new lessons
on the importance of social responsibility. For starters, the corporate social responsibility project
opened my eyes to all the positive impacts that large companies are making in the world. More
specifically, for my project, I researched Marriott International. Initially, I was unaware of all the
steps they take increase sustainability. Each year they take steps to cut down water waste, carbon
emission and landfill waste. This is a very tall task because they own over six thousand properties. I
was completely unaware that large companies similar to Marriott were concerned about the
environment.
Secondly, while reading Bill Strickland s Make the Impossible Possible I learned many helpful
lessons. One thing that stuck with me was Bill s ambition to chase his dreams. While working
with ceramics, he found something that he truly enjoyed, and he knew that crafting could help
influence others too. Though he grew up in a poor, destructive neighborhood, he didn t let that
stop him. When he finally opened up his first craftsman s guild I knew that he would have the
ability to make it special. After expansion and reassessment, Bill was finally make his dream a
reality by creating the beautiful Manchester Bidwell center. Although this was not an easy process,
he stuck with it and can now be very proud of what he created. Lastly, he shows that people should
never give up on their dreams and that people should give back to their community whenever
possible.
Lastly, the poisoned water video had a large impact on me. That video showed the results of what
happens when companies aren t sustainable and let waste build up. The video showed examples of
the waste accumulating in the Puget Sound as well as how farms are dealing with there waste
problems. The documentary was a little sad because it showed all the mutations

White Privilege In American Society
White privilege has been identified as the unspoken and often unseen advantages that white
people benefit from in various aspects of everyday life, based on nothing more than the colour of
their skin (Robbins et al. 2014:98). White privilege creates a social hierarchy in American society,
in which white is normative, and at the top of the hierarchy, and anything else is deviant
(Gallagher 2003:25). This paper will demonstrate how white privilege serves as a visual barrier for
white people, through which they are blind to the everyday struggles of people of colour. Most
people who live with white privilege remain blind to the ways in which their privilege both helps
them, and harms others. The experience of Jennifer Cramblett and Amanda Zinkon,... Show more

In making this decision, she was faced with the harsh reality that many non white mothers
struggle with; finding a multicultural school that would be accepting of her child (Mystal 2014).
All of a sudden, Cramblett was confronted with wondering if the schools would have resources
that promoted positive black identity development, so her daughter would not grow up feeling
like an outsider (Harman 2010:184). As a white person, this is something Cramblett would never
have had to be concerned with in her own life. White people live with the privilege that they can
bring a new baby into their family, their town, and their schools without worrying that their child
will face discrimination based on their racialized appearance. Cramblett was therefore unable to
recognize the everyday struggles of racialized minorities, until she was put in the position of
having to make these decisions with the safety and well being of a non white person in mind. This
is clearly illustrated by the shock and emotional distress Cramblett describes at the idea of bringing
her child into a predominantly white environment, clearly indicating the blinding nature of her
privilege (Mystal

Gasoline Prices Are Many With Good Reason
We all complain about the $4 gasoline prices many with good reason. Anyone who works 50
miles from home and gets 20 miles per gallon is using 5 gallons a day, or $20 just for their
commute. That means they are spending $100 per week (not tax deductible) just to earn a living
for their family. Across the nation, the average person uses at least 400 gallons of gasoline per
year, or about 8,000 miles on an average car. At $4 per gallon, that is a hefty $133 per month for
each family vehicle to run the errands that are part of each family s life. Now that amount per
month perhaps could be swallowed (remember that at $2 per gallon it was costing $67 per
month per vehicle), but there are larger issues to consider. Electricity for our home is produced
by generators powered by either coal or gasoline prod. Groceries are brought to their retail
destination by trucks using gasoline or diesel fuel. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found
that at the start of 2002, the average household spent $59 a week for food, and $25 for gas. As of
May 2008, that same household spends $72 a week for food (up 22%) and $83 for gas (up
232%). That translates to nearly $4300 per year for gas alone (up from roughly $2,000 in January
2006). Gone are the days of cheap gas prices. For a detailed explanation of the oil price increases,

rock record) 2.Archean 3800 2500 mya) 3.Proterozoic 2500 570 mya.
The present atmosphere is greatly depleted in Ne, Xe and Kr which are inert gases that should be
preserved in the atmosphere. This suggests that the earth amp;#8217;s initial atmosphere was lost ...

These deposits of marine hematite and quartz represent a precipitation of dissolved iron from sea
water as the dissolved oxygen content of the water increased. After 1800 mya, Banded iron
formations are rare, but terrestrial red beds are common for the first time suggesting that iron is
being oxidised and precipitated in soils and rocks on land in the source area of sediments instead of
being dissolved and carried into the oceans in its unoxidised form. Thus, it has been reasoned that
the BIF red bed transition marks the rise of atmospheric oxygen. Complimentary information comes
from detrital uraninite in Archean and earliest Proterozoic alluvial rocks. Because this uranium
mineral can survive prolonged transport only in media containing little or no oxygen, the lack of
detrital uraninite deposits younger than 2300 ma also points towards a significant environmental
transition (Roscoe,1969).
Not all scientists have accepted the validity of these observations or of their interpretation, Dimroth
and Kimberley(1976) argued that at least some red beds antedate the end of BIF deposition, that
Archean granites have paleoweathering profiles indicative of oxic environments, and that oxidised
sulphur minerals (sulphates) occur in some of the oldest known sedimentary successions. All of
these observations are correct, and we must ask whether they

How Does Chaucer Use The Grotesque In The Merchant s Tale
In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer uses the obscene and the grotesque to illustrate to the readers
the bawdy stories of the pilgrims on the journey and highlight their class differences. Although the
members of the lower class use elements of the vulgar and grotesque, the erasure of some of the
more obscene scenes by the storytellers indicates Chaucer s humor to the audience as it is a
rhetorical device. In The Merchant s Tale, Chaucer gives the merchant, whose position is caught
between the higher classes and the lower classes, the power to perform paralipsis to cheekily clue
the audience in to the more vulgar moments of the story as well as depicting monstrous imagery.
One of the first instances in which Chaucer uses the merchant to erase

The Controversial Restoration of the Sistine Chapel
The restoration of the Sistine Chapel in the 1980 s and 90 s was very controversial. This issue
began because Michelangelo, the painter of the Sistine Chapels ceiling, did the painting as a
fresco. This means that the paint was absorbed in the wall, thus becoming part of the wall itself.
Like many other walls and building, over time they began to crack and deteriorate. During the time
of the consideration of the restoration of the chapel, the frescohad been up for over 500 years. As
one would expect, there had been many cracks in the ceiling and the coloring of the ceiling was
becoming dull. The ceiling was also dusty and covered in grime from candle smoke and burning
coal. Before the newest and most major renovation of the chapel, there had been other previous
smaller ones. In some of these restorations, a type of glue was used to temporarily brighten the
dark colors. Unfortunately, the glue helped to attract more dust and grime, which took away from
the efforts of restoring it. In one attempt to restore the ceiling, wine and bread were used to clean
it. I cannot not see how anyone would think that would work and it obviously did not. The most
current restoration began in the 1980 s and lasted for about twelve to fourteen years. This
restoration included some of the best restorers worldwide. The Nippon Television Corporation, a
Japanese television company, donated 3 million dollars to fund this project and in return required
that they had exclusive television and

Ethnic Conflict In The Rwanda Genocide The Rwanda genocide began in 1994 when an airplane that was carrying the presidents of Rwanda and Burundi crashed, which triggered an organized campaign of violence against the Tutsi minorities across the country that was supported by the military and government. Even ordinary citizens were incited by local officials and the Hutucontrolled government to take up arms against them. The Rwandan genocidecan be classified as an ethnic conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi, but research has failed to find significant ethnic differences between the two groups. The one thing that can be said to be different is there physical appearance. The exact origins of the Hutus and Tutsis were unknown, because both groups shared the same language (Kinyarwanda) territory, some cultural practices, they intermarried and acknowledged the same king. Hence the Hutu and the Tutsi could not be described correctly as two different ethnic groups. In Rwanda, about 85 percent of its population was Hutu and the rest was Tutsi, not including one small percentage of another group. The Hutu was said to have travelled up from the south perhaps some two thousand years ago and that the Tutsi were possibly a southern Ethiopian tribe who immigrated into Rwanda around the fifteenth century or several centuries before this. Some of these early accounts support the theory of a peaceful migration with Tutsi winning the Hutu over through a complex cattle relationship (Wielenga, 2011). The majority of Rwandans are ... The same injuries can occur in many different sports in different situations but there can be more common injuries in each individual sport such as legs in football, shoulder or arm in javelin and hands or ankles in netball etc. Environmental injuries are things such as frostbite, hypothermia, exhaustion and heat stroke. Injuries can also occur due to physiological reasons making the person become fatigue, have muscle soreness and depletion of energy reserves. Before carrying out a session in the individual sport, a risk assessment should be preformed as there are others risk factors that should be identified such as slippery surfaces, equipment left out, food or drink that may be tipped in the training area. Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles Essay Scandal in Bohemia, Gender Roles In A Scandal in Bohemia, by Arthur Conan Doyle, society places women at an inferior level pushing them to the background therefore never allowing us, the reader, to know them, except for Irene Adler who shows the gender shift of the time period by becoming the main character in Sherlock Holmes investigation and the story. A Scandal in Bohemia speaks about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his adventure in retrieving a damaging photograph for a king from his ex mistress. In the society Watson describes, the role of women is of little to no importance except for emphasis that focused on the Kings mistress Irene Adler. In this society, women were the nurtures and the protectors of the children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than surrendering to the trickery of Sherlock Holmes, Irene Adler outsmarts him using his own tricks and makes her escape right under his nose. The narrowly defined roles of women were evident for the only means to discuss women in this story is through their relations with men. No woman, not even Irene Adler, has her own story. After all in the end, even Irene Adler runs away with a man. Out of the five female characters mentioned or referred to in this story, only one is given a name and a personality. This lack of female representation shows how dominant males were in the society of the story and in the society of the real world. Irene Adler exemplified the massive shifts in gender roles that were occurring during this time in many ways other than becoming the main character in the story along with being feared of having too much power by the men. Throughout the story there were many hidden examples of how Irene Adler was the main character of how the roles of gender were changing drastically in the period of this story. Adler is the character of changing gender roles which is revealed through a division of female physiology and male psychology. The king remarks that she had the face of the most beautiful women and the mind of the most resolute men . She also freely crosses gender barriers by wearing men s clothing, confessing that male costume is nothing new to me. I often take advantage of the freedom which it gives. Adler s active ... As a slice of life movie, one scene stands out between separating Yoshi, the father, and his co workers. While the camera pans across an office of yawning workers, Yoshi is patiently waiting at his desk for something, like being called into his boss office. During his discussion with Mr. Iwasaki, his co workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the suburbs. Following this conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office employees busy at their desk, before abruptly cutting to the children in schooldoing the same thing. • 9. The Crucible And 12 Angry Men Analysis The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) share many similarities between them, particularly in the themes they convey throughout the texts. Justice and prejudice are the main ideas presented in both texts, however the setting and outcomes differ significantly between the two, providing a different insight in each text. Both authors, Miller and Lumet, present relevant issues in the context of the 1950s that both texts were written. The similar social condition of America that the two texts were published in is a likely factor as to why the two texts have similar motifs presented throughout. Both The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) are about justice. The two texts feature important scenes involving a trial where the fate of a character s life rests in the hands of other people. However, the two texts have very different final outcomes. In both texts, the main protagonists argue against the majority, despite the backlash that they receive. Proctor speaks out in The Crucible after learning about the lies that Abigail and her friends are telling that have caused the imprisonment of members of the town and are even threatening their lives. Proctor takes a considerable risk by arguing against the witchcraft, especially in the Puritan society where religion is how the town is governed. His decision inevitably backfires on him and begins the series of events that lead to his execution. On the other hand, Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men goes against the majority as he sees the boys poor upbringing, his less than fair state appointed defence attorney and the jury s almost immediate unanimous decision to convict him, unjust and believes he deserves a better chance. Unlike Proctor, Juror #8 speaking out against the other men results in justice for the accused who walks away with his life. Justice in the two texts is represented considerably differently to each other. In The Crucible it is evident that Abigail and her friends are in the wrong, condemning people to be death by lying and accusing the town members of Witchcraft, and therefore Proctor attempting to expose them for their dishonesty and bring justice to those who had been wrongfully accused, which included his wife, was a brave and noble thing to ... • 10. Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science. Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are descendents of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group of dinosaurs known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas based on information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to determine which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then we have only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence. The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include the largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh, and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora. (There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000). The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians (Anonymous 2000). The Greek banquets were sponsored by various organizations to which their citizens belonged: philosophical societies, religious groups, and community organizations. This practice began as a way of honoring the memory of the deceased. Over time, the wealthy Romans started to serve banquets, in order to gain favor of others. Generals, politicians seeking office, and others eager to win popular support also adopted the custom of giving public banquets. In 27 B.C.E., the emperor Augustus banned public banquets, except those given by himself. He hoped, in this way, to keep others from winning the affection and support of the Roman populace. Like the Greeks, the Romans reclined on couches while banqueting. Although, in the Roman context, respectable women were permitted to join men in reclining. The females that attended were restricted to entertain, unlike the Greek women. A dining room typically held three broad couches, each couch seating three individuals, thus allowing for a total of nine guests. This type of room is commonly described as a triclinium, meaning a three couch room. The couches weee usually made of wood, but they were sometimes made of gold and ivory. In a triclinium, the couches were arranged along three walls of the room in a U shape. At the center of the room, there was a single table that was accessible to all of the diners. The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought about the most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire regions of the world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only against political systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also fought for their beliefs, values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by the ideas of liberalism and nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of regional and world revolution helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as revolutionary waves . What factors are attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an entrenched political system and possibly risk their life to completely upend the historical order of things and wipe the slate clean to enable present and future generations to create their own reality? Until recently, the power of the people and their ability to mobilize and demand had often been underestimated. Contos Thesis Abstract The Caenorhabditis elegans LET 23, which is an Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) receptor, controls multiple developmental pathways. In humans, EGF receptor mutations are implicated in a large number of cancers due to excess signaling promoting cell growth and cell division. Recent work has shown that in C. elegans LET 23 may also affect lipid production, specifically that of the phospholipid phosphatidylcholine. To investigate the role of the LET 23 receptor on lipid production, I have examined the cellular location of a fluorescent tagged SBP 1 marker under different conditions within the worm and from these inferred levels of lipid production. I will discuss my results and their impact on our understanding of EGF signaling and lipid biosynthesis. Thesis Intro: As a whole the world is becoming more aware of how fats affect the body. Not only are lipids a key element in cell membranes, they also lead to many issues regarding health. Obesity is an ever increasing risk factor for many diseases including type II diabetes, cardiac disease, and some forms of cancer (Kopelman 2000). As obesity transitions from little known problem into a full blown global epidemic, it is important to understand how lipids are synthesized and regulated within the body. So, is it healthy to strive for perfection when it in fact doesn t exist? It is healthy for society to distribute support for this unrealistic perfection? (conceptual reduction) в—Џ To demonstrate that mathematical truths are derivable from a few logical truths, taken as axioms, within the proposed formal system of logic. (doctrinal reduction) The first step led Russell, in Principles of Mathematics to undertake a logical analysis of our ordinary language. The same intention motivated Frege to discuss the nature of the relation of identity as expressed in various identity statements, particularly with regard to mathematics. This brings to fore the puzzle of identity, ultimately leading to Frege s theory of meaning that admits a dichotomy of sense and reference of each and every linguistic expression. Lutzer exposes that, for instance, Catholicism teaches the primacy of the church over the canon of Scripture; it believes that the official church is just as infallible as the Bible . According to this point of view the church , which is composed by popes and councils, determined which books are in the bible (p. 155). • 26. In Praise of Margins Essay In the essay In Praise of Margins Ian Fraizer upholds the importance of margins as a higher sort of unpurpose (Fraizer 45) defined by his time in the woods (44). Fraizer and his friends spent most of their time in their margins also known as stomping ice in the woods . Fraizer says that marginal placeand activities are the most important kind (46) because they are where you can try out odd ideas . Margins could be visiting a park, a friend s house, a dance studio or even a football field, also doing things such as swinging on a tire, reading, watching movies, dancing or playing a sport. He argues that margins whether places or activities are valuable because they allow a person to be themselves, have fun and use their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As they told themselves a frequent activity was exploring and the reader understand this was marginal when he mentions they were all easily distracted from their exploration with the sight of the perfect ice to stomp on. Fraizer explains these distractions to extend the understanding of margins and that they don t require uninterrupted focus because a person doesn t have something to accomplish, a marginal activity could result in another marginal activity that could have an outcome. I consider watching movies a marginal activity for many, people go to the theater to simply relax and get their mind off of other things. Movies let a person engulf themselves in the lives of others, fall in love all over again with a romance, laugh away all problems with a comedy, or feel a rush of adrenaline with an action movie. Films similar to these can create inspiration in people to find love, to become a director, even to become a writer to create a script that will affect people as the film affected them. Margins being without any purpose unintentionally result with a person having a purpose every purpose filled activity we pursue in the woods began as just fooling around . Through observing his kids actions when they encountered a ditch Fraizer remembers his personal experiences with margins. To Fraizer and his friends the woods played an important role in their childhoods, it acted as a place where they could let their imaginations run wild and pursue what their ... • 27. Alice in Wonderland Dream Analysis Dream Analysis of Alice in Wonderland Who s who and what s real; are we who we claim we are, and is reality really real or is everything just a fragment of what we think is the universe? A dream sequence is a technical term used mostly in film and television to set apart a brief interlude from the main story. (Wikipedia) The deeper lying theme that Carroll wanted to incorporate into his story of Alice in Wonderlandand Through the Looking Glass, in my opinion, was not his psychological or sexual desire for Alice Liddell. What he did mean to express by writing these stories was his innermost desire to escape from reality in which a relationship between he and Liddell was not allowed to a fantasy land where everything is backwards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carroll thus displays himself as two different beings through this theme: a serious mathematician existentialist writer, and the uncanny photographer who enjoys taking nude pictures of little girls, which are undoubtedly one exactly same person in the world of two universes; since the two realities can have differences and yet both very real, Carroll s strange personality is not actually strange at all. Borges The Circular Ruins did not contain the same meaning as Carroll s existentialist ideas; Borges idea of dreams was strictly one way, in which when one person wakes up, the person who is being dreamed will vanish. The Circular Ruins questioned about our existence as real or just a fragment of someone else s imagination, which is supposedly as real as the actual reality of whoever is imagining us. Carroll s notion of dreams, then, questions a more complex essence of existence: of two possibly imagined universes imagining each other. Carroll expresses himself and his queer personality (or is it queer?) through a seemingly harmless book of nonsensical fantasies, and also questions his readers, and possibly himself, the meaning of life and the universe. What I always thought of as the fun story with insane poems, in addition to the wonderfully brilliant image of Wonderland portrayed by Disney, turns out to be quite an amazing text for future existentialists and ... In this certain case, poor Tigger has been murdered and there are 3 possible suspects. Merton s Anomie Theory will be applied to suspect number 1: Winnie The Pooh. Eysenck s Theory will be applied to suspect number 2: Piglet and Social Bond Theory will be applied to suspect number 3: Eeyore. Merton s Anomie theory works around the theory that a society or culture inadvertently bring out offending behavior through pressure between the social norms and the compulsion to achieve them (Thio, 1975). There are 5 aspects of social structure that associate with this theory (Merton, 1938). Conformity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Psychoticism relates to certain personality traits such as being impulsive, hostile and aggressive (Eysenck, 1992). This theory is relatively consistent with the anecdotal evidence about Piglet, but has more evidence that suggests that Piglet was not the murderer. The anecdotal evidence states that Piglet has a Generalized Anxiety disorder which ties in with Neuroticism (Cattell and Scheier 1961). Eysenck and Gudjonsson (1989) had found offenders tend to score high on both Psychoticism and Neuroticism, (Lykken, 1990) which Piglet does not. He is often described as a generous animal, which does not tie in with the aggressive, non empathetic, and anti social nature of Psychoticism (Woody and Claridge 1977). Hirschi s Social Bond Theory is a theory that instead of being based on why people in society commit offences, it is based on why people in society do not commit offences (Hirschi, 2002). Hirschi (2002) identifies 4 main social bonds that can be used to determine the individual s likelihood to become involved in deviant crimes. These 4 social bonds are attachment, commitment, involvement and belief (Roland 1971). Altogether these social bonds are what make up the average mindset and behavior of a non criminal (Gundy Yoder, 2007). So if a person was not to have a strong presence of these bonds, it would then indicate deviant or offending behavior, and this is the case of Eeyore. The first of these 4 social ... In that morning, I had plenty of time compared to high school. I overslept because I knew college starts only at 10 a.m. I had an alarm set for 9 a.m. Once I woke, I took a shower and got ready. HACC is about minimum 8 minutes away from my house. By 9:40 a.m., I was on my way to the Harrisburg Area Community College. I was full of confidence that I will reach the campus on time, but the opposite happened. It was my life goal to go to college, however, there came the complication because I was unaware of the incomprehension and unfamiliarity of being freshmen in college. As a former new student, I got a little lost before I arrived at my math class. Once I reached the HACC parking lot, I wasted more than 10 minutes going around the parking lot looking for an empty spot. While I was driving around, I felt very frustrating. Besides, I was running late to class. Unfortunately, I did not consider a full parking lot. Suddenly I remembered, when I came to college orientation I parked my car across a small bridge where a new parking lot was under construction. I drove there and found out they finished constructing the new parking lot. There were a lot of empty parking spots. I parked my car and quickly walked toward Whitaker Hall rushing to find my math class. I had a map of the campus, which listed all names and locations of specific buildings. In ... Like every production process, music production is protected from the idea to distribution and sharing. Let s start from songwriting and composition . В№According to the law, the lyrics that are written by a songwriter are considered literary works and protected by copyright. Copyright is the right owned by the creative artist to utilize or let use his composition by whoever needs with the proper established agreements. Written lyrics represents 1/3 of copyrights ownership as well as musical composition and arrangement. We could see the backing chord and its progression used in the song as its arrangement and the melody line as its composition. Only if the artist creates every part of the song he is intitled to own 100% of song rights. Many people may argue about whether people should feel survivor s guilt or not after going through a life/death situation. Survivor s guilt is when a person has went through a life/death situation and feel guilty about surviving. Survivors of a life/deathsituations should not feel survivor s guilt One reason survivors of life and death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it can keep you from healing. In the short story The seventh man written by Haruki Murakami in paragraph 47 it states ....didn t get married another example is in paragraph 48 Didn t go back for 40 years . This shows that feeling guilty about his life/death situations made his life miserable until he realises it wasn t a big deal. This proves that, in the end survivor s guilt shouldn t affect someone who went through a life and death situation because it wasn t their fault for wanting to live. Another reason why survivors of life/death situations should not feel survivor s guilt is because it is illogical. • 37. Personal Responsibility Reflection Q1: How have your views on business and personal responsibility changed, if at all, over the course of the semester? Throughout the course of this semester, my views on business and personal responsibility changed drastically. While completing the corporate social responsibility assignment as well as reading about Bill Strickland s story and the Frontline Poisoned Waters video, I learned many new lessons on the importance of social responsibility. For starters, the corporate social responsibility project opened my eyes to all the positive impacts that large companies are making in the world. More specifically, for my project, I researched Marriott International. Initially, I was unaware of all the steps they take increase sustainability. Each year they take steps to cut down water waste, carbon emission and landfill waste. This is a very tall task because they own over six thousand properties. I was completely unaware that large companies similar to Marriott were concerned about the environment. Secondly, while reading Bill Strickland s Make the Impossible Possible I learned many helpful lessons. One thing that stuck with me was Bill s ambition to chase his dreams. While working with ceramics, he found something that he truly enjoyed, and he knew that crafting could help influence others too. Though he grew up in a poor, destructive neighborhood, he didn t let that stop him. When he finally opened up his first craftsman s guild I knew that he would have the ability to make it special. After expansion and reassessment, Bill was finally make his dream a reality by creating the beautiful Manchester Bidwell center. Although this was not an easy process, he stuck with it and can now be very proud of what he created. Lastly, he shows that people should never give up on their dreams and that people should give back to their community whenever possible. Lastly, the poisoned water video had a large impact on me. That video showed the results of what happens when companies aren t sustainable and let waste build up. The video showed examples of the waste accumulating in the Puget Sound as well as how farms are dealing with there waste problems. The documentary was a little sad because it showed all the mutations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

White Privilege In American Society White privilege has been identified as the unspoken and often unseen advantages that white people benefit from in various aspects of everyday life, based on nothing more than the colour of their skin (Robbins et al. 2014:98). White privilege creates a social hierarchy in American society, in which white is normative, and at the top of the hierarchy, and anything else is deviant (Gallagher 2003:25). This paper will demonstrate how white privilege serves as a visual barrier for white people, through which they are blind to the everyday struggles of people of colour. Most people who live with white privilege remain blind to the ways in which their privilege both helps them, and harms others. The experience of Jennifer Cramblett and Amanda Zinkon,... In making this decision, she was faced with the harsh reality that many non white mothers struggle with; finding a multicultural school that would be accepting of her child (Mystal 2014). As a white person, this is something Cramblett would never have had to be concerned with in her own life. White people live with the privilege that they can bring a new baby into their family, their town, and their schools without worrying that their child will face discrimination based on their racialized appearance. Cramblett was therefore unable to recognize the everyday struggles of racialized minorities, until she was put in the position of having to make these decisions with the safety and well being of a non white person in mind. This is clearly illustrated by the shock and emotional distress Cramblett describes at the idea of bringing her child into a predominantly white environment, clearly indicating the blinding nature of her privilege (Mystal ... Anyone who works 50 miles from home and gets 20 miles per gallon is using 5 gallons a day, or $20 just for their commute. That means they are spending $100 per week (not tax deductible) just to earn a living for their family. Across the nation, the average person uses at least 400 gallons of gasoline per year, or about 8,000 miles on an average car. At $4 per gallon, that is a hefty $133 per month for each family vehicle to run the errands that are part of each family s life. Now that amount per month perhaps could be swallowed (remember that at $2 per gallon it was costing $67 per month per vehicle), but there are larger issues to consider. Electricity for our home is produced by generators powered by either coal or gasoline prod. Groceries are brought to their retail destination by trucks using gasoline or diesel fuel. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that at the start of 2002, the average household spent $59 a week for food, and $25 for gas. As of May 2008, that same household spends $72 a week for food (up 22%) and $83 for gas (up 232%). That translates to nearly $4300 per year for gas alone (up from roughly $2,000 in January 2006). These deposits of marine hematite and quartz represent a precipitation of dissolved iron from sea water as the dissolved oxygen content of the water increased. After 1800 mya, Banded iron formations are rare, but terrestrial red beds are common for the first time suggesting that iron is being oxidised and precipitated in soils and rocks on land in the source area of sediments instead of being dissolved and carried into the oceans in its unoxidised form. Thus, it has been reasoned that the BIF red bed transition marks the rise of atmospheric oxygen. Complimentary information comes from detrital uraninite in Archean and earliest Proterozoic alluvial rocks. Because this uranium mineral can survive prolonged transport only in media containing little or no oxygen, the lack of detrital uraninite deposits younger than 2300 ma also points towards a significant environmental transition (Roscoe,1969). Not all scientists have accepted the validity of these observations or of their interpretation, Dimroth and Kimberley(1976) argued that at least some red beds antedate the end of BIF deposition, that Archean granites have paleoweathering profiles indicative of oxic environments, and that oxidised sulphur minerals (sulphates) occur in some of the oldest known sedimentary successions. • 42. The Controversial Restoration of the Sistine Chapel The restoration of the Sistine Chapel in the 1980 s and 90 s was very controversial. This issue began because Michelangelo, the painter of the Sistine Chapels ceiling, did the painting as a fresco. This means that the paint was absorbed in the wall, thus becoming part of the wall itself. Like many other walls and building, over time they began to crack and deteriorate. During the time of the consideration of the restoration of the chapel, the frescohad been up for over 500 years. As one would expect, there had been many cracks in the ceiling and the coloring of the ceiling was becoming dull. The ceiling was also dusty and covered in grime from candle smoke and burning coal. Before the newest and most major renovation of the chapel, there had been other previous smaller ones. In some of these restorations, a type of glue was used to temporarily brighten the dark colors. Unfortunately, the glue helped to attract more dust and grime, which took away from the efforts of restoring it. In one attempt to restore the ceiling, wine and bread were used to clean it. I cannot not see how anyone would think that would work and it obviously did not. The most current restoration began in the 1980 s and lasted for about twelve to fourteen years. This restoration included some of the best restorers worldwide.
