This case study examines the key challenges faced by Specsavers, an eye care and hearing services company operating internationally. As the company expanded beyond the UK to over 1500 stores worldwide, developing an effective international HR strategy became increasingly difficult. Some of the main challenges included moving the HR function to a more strategic role, developing frameworks that ensure consistency while allowing flexibility across different country operations, and balancing company interests with local cultural needs. The case study recommends creating an overarching strategic framework that provides flexibility at the national level, with innovative and collaborative approaches.
