The organization's PRIDE values of passion, respect, integrity, dynamism and excellence help unite staff, though some new employees are still learning how the values influence their work. Overall, the report gives a very positive assessment of WFAC's people management practices.

Designing and Sustaining Large-Scale Value-Centered Agile Ecosystems (powered...Alexey Krivitsky
Is Agile dead? It depends on what you mean by 'Agile'. If you mean that the organizations are not getting the promised benefits because they were focusing too much on the team-level agile "ways of working" instead of systemic global improvements -- then we are in agreement. It is a misunderstanding of Agility that led us down a dead-end. At Org Topologies, we see bright sparks -- the signs of the 'second wave of Agile' as we call it. The emphasis is shifting towards both in-team and inter-team collaboration. Away from false dichotomies. Both: team autonomy and shared broad product ownership are required to sustain true result-oriented organizational agility. Org Topologies is a package offering a visual language plus thinking tools required to communicate org development direction and can be used to help design and then sustain org change aiming at higher organizational archetypes.

Impact of Effective Performance Appraisal Systems on Employee Motivation and ...Dr. Nazrul Islam
Healthy economic development requires properly managing the banking industry of any
country. Along with state-owned banks, private banks play a critical role in the country's economy.
Managers in all types of banks now confront the same challenge: how to get the utmost output from
their employees. Therefore, Performance appraisal appears to be inevitable since it set the
standard for comparing actual performance to established objectives and recommending practical
solutions that help the organization achieve sustainable growth. Therefore, the purpose of this
research is to determine the effect of performance appraisal on employee motivation and retention.

FEA’s Successful and Sustainable Business
Excellence Journey
We decided to come together, we decided to make a dif-
ference together, we decided to be the leading organiza-
tion and now we are reflecting on our achievements
over the last 49 years.
In leading the way for best practices, accepting the chal-
lenges and moving with expectations, we are now re-
vamping ourselves with steering through discovery, ac-
celerating exploration and overtaking the predictable in 2016 and beyond. To be
an industry leader means never being satisfied with the status quo.
At Fiji Electricity Authority, we constantly seek ways to develop our business with
innovative ideas from our Team.
The successful implementation of Quality Circles program at FEA is primarily
based upon recognition of the value of the workers as a human being, as some-
one who willingly innovates on the job, wisdom, intelligence, experience, attitude
and feelings. It also forms an integral part of the human resource management
which is considered as one of the key success factors in the improvement of
product quality & productivity.
The passion to be part of innovation at FEA has no doubt shown an increase in
the number of Circles which has spreaded out throughout all FEA locations with-
in the country.
Quality Circle has boosted the morale and team spirit through a participative
partnership of the employees and we have seen a tremendous improvement on
the employee’s attitude towards work improvement.
The FEA Quality Circle mission is to inspire the next generation and create a
passion for innovation and ultimately creating value to make a difference every-
where we engage. At the same time we seek to develop our Team.
FEA Quality circle is totally focused on a positive environment with a continuous
improvement culture and more importantly a total commitment from all levels in
achieving excellence and growth and dedicating ourselves to deliver great value
on our service delivery to customers, employees and the other stakeholders.
I am confident that the FEA Quality Circles will be the road to lasting success
through innovation, excellence and strengthening of our brand.

Passion and Positive Energy! These are the two most important aspects that
differentiate us. All successful achievers always have these two most important
characteristics within themselves.
They are extremely passionate about what they do. Passion for the poor is what
made Mother Theresa go on and on despite being from a foreign country and
being stuck in a dirty city with unseen poverty all around. Such people are also
always full of positive energy. They never see negativity in anything!
Innovation in all aspects of globalization is widely held to be an essential driver

FEA wins Gold and Bronze Award
The challenge was to make an impact in
the 2013 NCQ Convention. The seed had
been planted in August with the HRSBA - a
group of 21 human resource developers
and managers - agreeing the move to
quality control circles would add value and
improve quality of the organization leading
to an increase in overall quality and
productivity for FEA.
From those small beginnings a small con-
tingent of 13 staff was sent to attend
NTPC's Quality Circle Convention at the
Novotel Convention Centre in November
2012. It was here they heard the incredible
challenge Naveen Lakshmaiya had in
store for them make an impact at the next
NCQ Convention. It was a bit of frenzy
from then on: setting up the ground opera-
tions; seeking signs offs from the CEO; im-
bedding a quality policy into the organisa-
tions training programme; and setting up of
quality control circle teams across the

5. 2014
Surfing this wave of success, Team FEA started
preparing for the 2014 NCQ. A sense of realisa-
tion swept the organisation - a quality control cir-
cle was not something to be anxious about.
This is best put in the words of one employee:
"When the QC commenced in 2012 I was not
even aware what QC was. The QC Teams were
formed and QC duties were allocated. I was re-
luctant to join the QC, because I thought it was
not that important and that it was time consum-
ing. Some others at FEA thought in a similar
manner. You can call it that I am “Old School”
and would not accept changes easily.
Building on the 2013 success, the preparations
for the 2014 NCQ intensified to a level that teams
were faultlessly presenting paperless, and boot
camps were sessions for showcasing talent and
reaching new heights.
The result: FEA scooped four major awards at
the 19th NCQ 2014 - Team Gold, Organizational
Gold, Outstanding QC Manager and Most Inno-
vative Team.

7. MESSAGE FROM FORMER CHAIRMAN
MR. NIZAM UD DEAN
I am indeed delighted to join in and celebrate FEAs
productivity journey. The Fiji Electricity Authority Board
takes great pleasure in welcoming you to your very own
Inaugural In-House Quality Circles Convention 2015. The
theme of today’s event “Partnering with you innovatively
to achieve excellence” is definitely what any business
needs from its employees in order to succeed.
I would like to also make a very special warm welcome to
the top 10 Teams present in the Convention this morning from all the 3 regions.
Your being here is itself an achievement as you have toiled through amongst 44
Quality Circle Teams.
The successful implementation of Quality Circles program at FEA is primarily
based upon recognition of the value of the workers as a human being as some-
one who willingly innovates on the job, wisdom, intelligence, experience, attitude
and feelings. It also forms an integral part of the human resource management
which is considered as one of the key success factors in the improvement of
product quality and achieving productivity at work place.
A journey that commenced in 2012 with 2 Quality Circle Teams has now in-
creased to 44 Quality Circle Teams in 2015 with a total participation of 60.42%
of employees which equates to approximately 435 employees.
For a program such as this, we can be proud of our achievements. Part of our
success is due to the fact that we have a great Team and also due to our ability
to adapt to the changing needs.
FEAs Quality Circle mission is to inspire the next generation and create a pas-
sion for innovation and ultimately creating value to make a difference every-
where we engage. We are totally focused on a positive environment with a con-
tinuous improvement on culture and more importantly a total commitment from
all levels in achieving excellence, growth and dedicating ourselves to deliver
great value on service delivery to our customers, employees and stakeholders.
I would like to congratulate each Team, whose passion, time and patience have
brought this to a reality. I am confident that you can do more in moving FEA to a
new height.
I now declare open FEAs Inaugural In-House Quality Circles Convention 2015
and may the Best Team win.
Thank you and Vinaka Vakalevu.

15. TEAM KINETICS
GOLD MEDAL WININGTEAM
The beginning of Team Kinetics journey on Quality to en-
hance productivity through continuous improvement in Fea
commenced on 13th
October, 2012 at FEA Kinoya Training
room. This meeting established the foundation of the Team
where the Team members met and began its “FOCUS” on its
objective, Purpose, target and implementing the PDCA ap-
proach with regards to the QC structure.
From the initial brainstorming session the Team highlighted
the 7 major issues that they currently faced in Kinoya operations and using the
decision matrix with the 4 selection criteria’s the Team used to quantify the
problems with the High Energy Consumption in Kinoya operations ranking as
the most significant. The Team embarked on the Energy conservation project
and the whole Kinoya teams was encouraged to participate in this worthwhile
project.
The journey of quality was undertaken with a lot of commitment and passion as
the Team chose to challenge itself and achieve its target within the time frame
of the project. One of the major challenges faced by the Team was the resigna-
tion of 4 of its members and this did not deter the remaining Team members
Jitendra V. Kumar( QC Facilitator), Bob Mitchell (QC Manager) & Akhtar Ali (QC
Team Leader) from continuing with the project. The perseverance and determi-
nation to complete what we had all started was our biggest challenge and yes
the Team managed to achieve its objective and was the first Team to put their
hands up – Yes the Team was ready for the 2013 National Quality Circle Con-
vention.
The hard work had been done and Team Kinetics was into its fine tuning phase
on its preparations for the 18th
NCQ Convention. The Kinetics Team confidence
in achieving its objective set the platform for “Going for Gold” which was the ulti-
mate aim when the Quality Circle Initiative was introduced by GMHR, Mr.
Naveen Lakshmaiya in 2012
On Friday 22nd
November, 2013 Team Kinetics achieved a magnificent feat by
grabbing “GOLD” at the 18Th
National Convention on Quality with the theme
“Improvement Today for a Better Tomorrow”.
The Team wish to acknowledge the Chairman for his unwavering support on
QC, CEO & the respective EMG’s for the continued support and commitment.
To the three FEA Quality Circles that also took part in the NCQ convention –
thank you for the passion, energy and commitment you have made to the QC
initiative. We would like to also acknowledge the contribution of the members
who have left Team for greener pastures (Sisa Meo/Vili Baleisuva/Ashnil/
Mohammed Imtiaz). Of course, we acknowledge the hard work and initiative by
the company mentor Mr. Naveen Lakshmaiya for his contribution on this SUC-
CESS story.
16. COMMENTS FROM FORMERTRAINING
OFFICER ELECTRICAL FEA RONALD REDDY
“QC – A Journey, A Never Ending Journey Towards Greater
Excellence”
In 2011, a group of technical musketeers gathered around and
HSE Officer to hear what is this QC! No, it just didn’t make
sense at all. Let’s drop this idea and never bring it up again.
Even though, in a very minute scale some of the QC tools were
being used. Enters GMHR in 2012 and the tables turn. He
wants QC to be the foremost thing…what…how is that related to my work, to
my JD, to my future aspirations…….!
The above were the exact sentiments from me but not spoken out loud when
QC virtually contacted me through its various agents. Little did I know that this
particular concept would one day give me a national platform to echo the expe-
riences and especially the positive impact it has on people in any organization.
In 2013, I joined a Team which did fairly well but lacked the luster of shining
through out but I did witness the thrills and importantly the many benefits of this
program. In 2014, I was given the opportunity to coordinate the affairs of all QC
Teams in the Western Region at FEA. The total number of Teams were thirteen
and it was already overwhelming to manage. Various sessions were done to
see the Team that could represent FEA at NCQ. Being the coordinator, I was
asked to join a Team called KAIZEN, a Team which eventually won GOLD
Award at NCQ and was further recognized with TWO Stars at IETEX Singa-
pore, 2015. In 2015, being part of the QC Secretariat, we managed forty four
teams. The work involved was voluntary and strenuous. Data collation, impact
assessment, registration, team rankings per internal elimination, data profiling
and many more. In other words there so much I learned. One key thing that I
learned from this experience was teamwork and engagement, in other words
having the ability to stand up and say, YES I can do this and also help others as
and when the need arises. It also taught me the greater need to be engaged to
programs without any placing any conditions. In 2015, FEA was recognized as
the Model QC Organization in Fiji, a feat so rare.
In 2016, I continued my journey in Future Farms Ltd t/a Rooster Poultry and af-
ter the necessary presentation and consideration the Board approved for an in-
ternal concept for QC. Our organization eventually has seven teams and QC
projects were presented at our Inaugural In House QC Convention which was
held at Tanoa Waterfront on the September 21st
2016. All present in the Con-
vention roared as they saw the success of the event and there are now plans to
have bigger convention internally and a possible showcasing at NCQ 2017. One
key improvement of QC at FFL has been a much more engaged workforce re-
sulting in product excellence and better profitability. Friends, if Business Excel-
lence is the whole body, then QC is the breath that keeps that body
alive……..continual improvement and productivity all the way!
17. COMMENTS FROM SAMU NAISUA
My journey into QC started on Friday 5th October 2012. I
was introduced to it after a Training that was organised by
our current GMHR Mr Naveen Lakshmaiya. It was an eye
opener to me, at first I thought that it was a waste of pro-
ductive time but after the Training my perception greatly
changed. It’s about turning around the un-productive. It
explored our 7th FEA value – Innovativeness. It was
about a brand new approach, a brand new name, a brand new image and a
brand new commitment to aspire for excellence.
Excellence is a never ending journey. It is a about continuous improvement that
has no limit. You have to be flexible to change and always try to think outside and
beyond the box. Innovation is not something we do after you get your work done
but it’s how we do our work. We should all believe in Excellence and continuous
improvement and believe in bringing out and marketing of the Best. Organizations
all over the world are shredding jobs in record numbers. Yet today, they are des-
perately in need of people with the ability and skills to think ahead of the curve,
delight customers, motivate colleagues, slash costs and achieve unconventional
results.
I took my learning to the West. And North. Managed to convince and encourage
fellow workers to form and join QC Teams. The beauty of QC was re-discovered,
Teams were formed and over the years the numbers of new Teams has grown.
I was fortunate enough that my commitment to QC was recognised at the 19th
Na-
tional convention on Quality when I took out the honours of the ‘Outstanding Qual-
ity Circle Manager of the Year 2014. Along with it was an all-expenses paid trip to
attend the IETEX Productivity event in Singapore in 2015. It was a good learning
experience for me. It was also a great conference and also an event where the
best QC Teams in Asia presented their projects. One thing I took notice is the
number of, I may say Senior Citizens who were presenting projects. It gave me a
new perspective that irrespective of age, QC is for all works of life. Also in Singa-
pore everywhere we went we could feel and breath quality due to the atmosphere
they have created. It is just awesome. Children are introduced to it at a very
young age and thus has been part of their culture throughout their lifetime.
I therefore encourage people or my fellow workers to join QC. On the same token
I would like to congratulate Mr Bob Mitchell who took the honours of Outstanding
QC Manager 2016 at the 21st
National Convention on Quality, Team Inspire for
winning Bronze and Team Rhizome for taking out the Gold Award. Wishing you
luck to those that will be travelling to Singapore next year.
The Journey continues…..
18. TEAM INSPIRE
BRONZE AWARD WINNER
Team Inspire is all about channelling the experience and talents of
members from different backgrounds into constructive exchanging
of Information through ideas and opinions that will assist in improv-
ing productivity within FEA.
In 2013 Team Lions won bronze at the 18th National Convention on
Quality and this achievement gave us a passion of inspiring innovation and taking
quality circle to the next level. The power to grow and innovate in this journey
gave birth to Team Inspire.
In 2014 Team was initially formed and the Team participated in FEA’s In-House
Quality Circles Logo competition and won the competition with the statement
“Inspiring Innovation”, which today has the set pace for passion and excel-
lence amongst 60% of our employees and is embedded throughout the origina-
tion.
Inspire was a leading contender in the Inaugural In-House Quality Circles Con-
vention 2015 via the 3 mini In-House Elimination Rounds. Team Inspires con-
sistency and dedication was rewarded with the Gold Award in the competitive cat-
egory and also the Outstanding Quality Circles Team Manager award at the inau-
gural In-House convention which was a automatic qualification to participate at
the 20th
National Convention on Quality 2015. Team Inspire won the Silver Award
and was also awarded the Most Innovative Team of that Year.
2016 was a challenging year for all members after being struck by TC Winston,
Team Inspire remained focus on their project. .

Quality begins on the inside… then works its way out.” ~Bob Moawad
A quality circle is a volunteer group composed of workers who do the same
or similar work, usually under the leadership of their own supervisor (or an
elected Team leader), who meet regularly in paid or personal time who are
trained to identify, analyse and solve work-related problems and present
their solutions to and where possible implement the solutions themselves in order to improve
the performance of the organization, and motivate and enrich the work of employees. When
matured, true quality circles become self-managing, having gained the confidence of manage-
ment.
Innovation is the 7th
Value of FEA. Innovation is not creativity or play - Innovation is
hard work. You need thousands of failure to make a one success story. Failures cannot
be avoided however Innovation needs heroes!

Our main challenge now is the Sustainability of Quality circle 2017-2019. Target 2017 is 90%
workforce. We just need everyone to come on –board and it has to be driven with a Top down
and Bottom up approach. New FEA chairman has come on board with a new vision of Quality
and Productivity. For us to grow and excel we need all our commitment. WE need to chal-
lenge the status quo. We need to come out of our comfort zone because life is just too short
for all your dreams. We need that Platinum from Singapore and in order to get that we all
need your commitment. And I have no doubt that Team Revenue services and the Customer
Services SBA will be the engine of growth of QC in FEA.
Why? Because never in anyone wilderness dream that a Team made up of simple 7.30am -
5pm operation minded meter readers or revenue services reps will ever win Gold at the NCQ
let alone making it to Singapore. You have set a very high standard but the main challenge is
to maintain, sustain and exceed it. And I indeed have no doubt about it.
